I am interested to see some more of Snape's past experiences unfold...I dunno. To me he seems a little deeper than most give him credit for. I think he has a reason to be the way he is...and trust me, I'm not saying he is a nice guy. However, Harry is pretty tough partially because of him. Negative energy does inspire courage in the righteous.... I'll be interested in seeing what JKR makes of him in the next couple of books...

As for Umbridge.....ack...don't even get me started!

asher_son_of_ash
May 26th, 2004, 11:03 PM
Yes. ^_^ Snape isn't bad. He just has a bad background and upset past. o.O; Kidding.

However, Harry is pretty tough partially because of him. Negative energy does inspire courage in the righteous.

I'll have to agree with the first sentence. Since I didn't get the second. XD;
And Umbridge... hmm... can't think of anything to say there... -curses fly through head- Or maybe there is.

May 27th, 2004, 06:22 AM
i'm gonna see #3 the day it comes out
same here. i'm getting reserve tickets, though. have you gone and seen shrek 2? over here it was packed. i have a feeling it's gonna be more packed for HP3...have a feeling that i'm going to have to get there 1 hour early...joy huh?

Skye
May 27th, 2004, 06:32 AM
[QUOTE=I'll have to agree with the first sentence. Since I didn't get the second.[/QUOTE]

I meant that Snape's negative attitude towards him has encouraged Harry's courage. Hey, there has to be a Snape in every book so the main character can reach their full potential. Besides, what about the fact that he saved Harry? He was casting a counter curse when Quirrel was trying to kill Harry at the Quiddich match, and there was another time too, but I don't want to spoil it for those who haven't read the books. (I am assuming everyone has read/seen #1)

Yami's Girl
May 27th, 2004, 06:47 AM

why does umbridge hate gryfinndor so much? anyone no?

Yami's Girl
May 27th, 2004, 09:58 AM
Mabye it has sumthin to do with The Minitry of Magic? Probably because they dont think Harry is telling the truth that he saw Voldamort or sumthin like that.

Skye
May 27th, 2004, 02:13 PM
Umbridge doesn't like Hogwarts or Harry because the Ministry of Magic toned down the whole Voldermort thing. They were too afraid to confront it head on, unlike Harry, who was ready and willing to face Voldermort. It was all an issue of keeping the Voldermort thing quiet...it's too bad it took something, like his actual appearance (spoiler...sorry!) to make them realize....

But, to put it short and sweet, Umbridge is/was ignorant, and I cannot stand her!

~*Silent Tattsu*~
May 27th, 2004, 02:29 PM
I think you have a very good point about Snape, Skye *nod nod* n.n()()
I agree with all of that. Even though i think Snape is a cold person by heart, i have a feeling that the reason Snape is so vile towards Harry is because of what Lupin, James and Sirius did to him when they were students at Hogwarts. James, alike his son Harry, had a brave and confident personality with a never back down attitude. I think James was the ring leader in his School days. So i think maybe Snape is not as bad as he looks.

Weeeeeeeeeee! *Jumps around and waves Poa flag* Prisoner Of Azkaban is coming to Cinemas this Monday! wOOt ! ^____^ We have pre-booked tickets for the Tuesday since Monday was full up ._. Oh well, there will still be the HPish feeling in the air and the cinemas bound to be packed! ;D I just can't wait! This is going to be the best yet hopefully. *Tatt jumps around some more*

i think snape'll be bad... it just seems like it would be a really cool twist to throw in at the end. at least i think so. i may not be thinking entirely rationaly, but i think snape's a jerk thuroughly. *blind to the fact that albus trusts him and is always right*

Skye

I can't wait til the third movie come out too! Though I do wish they would make them more true to the books, and put more in the films. It is generated towards a younger audience, who tend to have smaller attention spans...but I dunno. I'd like to see more material in the films...I think I made my point...lol

(Random thought: I think I will make a Hogwarts school uniform for Hallow's Eve this year!)

ryan
May 27th, 2004, 07:20 PM
awesome, make me an outfit too. and ya... so far the movies have been a disapointment to some degree, but they're just movies, they don't take anything away from our books!

Skye
May 27th, 2004, 07:46 PM
That's true...they don't take away at all...however, I would think it would be cool if they were more epic like the LOTR movies. But again, the attention span problem....but you know...the kids had the patience to sit down and read the books.....gah...I dunno.

JoWood
May 28th, 2004, 03:38 AM
Thats true skye. I think they put into the LOTR movies because those arent so much as focused on younger people. BTW I read all LOTR books.

Same here Skye! *nod nod* I agree with you on the Films...its completely true how if younger Kids have the attention span to read the books, then they should be able to cope with a more complicated and longer film ._. lOl I suppose its because the makers of the films want it to be popular on a wide age group, and they don't want problems arising with the age rating of the film. We all know HP could be much darker and gory in the Films, but they won't do that.

I have a feeling that now Cris Columbus has stopped directing and someone different did poa, the Films might me better. People are saying the new director has made it more dark and HP like. Poa looks awesome! ^____^ I am satisfied with the movies, just. Hopefully this is a new begining for them!

sounds like a fun thing to do (the yule ball) except of course for the undeniable fact that it's... almost june. so we'd have to wait a while before it could be "yule"
or we could do a dueling club!
*casts alohamora on JoWood!* nothing happened... dammmm
and about LOTR... i couldn't read the books (they lost me in rivendelle or however you spell it) and the movies bored me to tears... so long!
with wussy little frodo falling apart ever 5 minutes.... grr...

I think i'd be in Gryffindor, simple really XD Cause my personality is confident, i am loyal, i love having Friends, i hate evil people and most of all i'm adventurous!

I have a good question for you guys - If you could have any animal as your School Wizard pet in Hogwarts, what would it be? I would love a Minute owl like Ron's Pigwidgeon ^__^ A tiny silver one. Or i'd love a snow Fox or a Phoenix.

Ew....that dude who plays Snape is not hot. He is ugly!

Hmmm...if I could have ANY animal at Hogwarts I would probably choose something creepy, like a Gremlin. Not the scary, man-eating Gremlins, like what happens when they eat at midnight and get in water and stuff, but the cute little ones BEFORE the transformation. Like Magwi!!!

nobody that has a relation with harry potter is attractive, they're all pasty british people. but i've bought tickets for saturday, which is cool. even though i'm not the first to see it...

Trys to control anger* I happen to be British too rsgh5... O.O And if i were you, i would not bash any country because bashing is not alowed. You think anybody that has any relation with HP is a pasty Brit? Well in other words i think you're saying "HP Fans are all British losers" So why on earth i you going to see Poa may i ask? Please don't come into a Club and start sticking your nose in by bashing. That was harsh, and i thought i'd say to you that there are HP Fans ALL around the world. Not just in the U.K

Aww! The tickets were sold out! Poor Tatt! I feel sorry for you...really......but at least you're seeing it tomorrow! It's great!! People pouring in....yeah...there were eight out of ten screens at our cinema...showing PoA and i know that at least six of them were completely full up! :p

Though I suppose he IS and adolescent now, and that's how they are...nothing is ever fair enough, etc. With guardians like the Dursleys, I can see how he ges so mad, but at Hogwarts? *Hops back into thread feeling Ashamed* Ack! I'm not posting in this thread enough! ;)

You got a good point there Skye. Oh yes, Harry certainly turned very Angsty in Book 5. I have to say i didn't particualy like his attitude myself, but you have to ask yourself how would it feel to be in Harry's position. If that was my life, i certainly would not be happy, i mean i think Harry's put on a very brave face and he trys to be happy as much as he can. The darkest and most feared wizard killing your parents and then wanting to kill you, knowing that he's stalking you, having to go live with people like the Dursleys (who basicly abused him) seeing Cedric die in front of his eyes the year before. Having those horrible visions (When Mr Weasely got bitten by the Snake ect.) The embarrasing and awkward relationship he had with Cho. How would all of that feel?

I think there were alot of reasons Harry was so hot tempered and depressed in ootp - Teenage angst, yes i know how it feels, and like i said before J.K had to show it somehow. Thats why Harry ended up having his first kiss that year with Cho i suppose, you know, he's growing up. Umbridge and Dumbledore being taken out of the School, anybody would feel depressed with Umbridge being your Head teacher, Hogwarts was a Home and santcuary for Harry and after Umbridge was in charge he had nowhere to turn to.

Anyhoo i've ranted enough ;D

So, i was just wondering if anybody fancies a Shippy HP topic? Yes? No?
Well, i bet none of you guys know, but i'm a huge Ron and Hermione shipper. I am convinced they'll get together in the end, and i wondered if any of you have noticed the hints between them in the Books.

Personally, I support Ron x Hermione. Harry will always be a good friend to Hermione, and vice versa, but I think they are too close as friends to be "together." There is also more chemistry between Ron and Hermione, though I suppose if I were in her position, I would have a hard time choosing between the two! (I'll take Harry if Hermione doesn't want him!! ;))

Very good post there Skye, some good points! ;)

*lol* I know what you mean, i'd have a very hard time choosing between Ron and Harry ;p They are both gorgeous in their different ways.

No!! Leave Ron to die? You evil boi!! XP

And Batesy, i'm afraid the fate of Herm and Ron is not up to you, its in J.K's hands *Evil grin* :cheeky: And i'm sorry to say that it is very obvious that the two will get together in the end. J.K has hinted towards it herself, and there are plenty of hints in the Books. I mean, no one can deny that Ron does not have a crush on Hermione. IMO, Harry and Hermione are great Friends, but their relationship is very mutual and there's no sexual tension involved.

Heres some R/Hr evidence -

J.K Rowling interview proof -

Q: Is it just me, or was something going on between Ron and Hermione during the last half of Goblet of Fire?

A: "Yes, something's "going on," but Ron doesn't realize it yet. Typical boy." -- J.K. Rowling's response to a fan question

"Harry and Hermione are very platonic friends. But I won't answer for anyone else, nudge, nudge, wink, wink." - J.K Rowling (National Press Club Luncheon, October 1999)
-------------------------

Interview with Katie Couric, June 21st, 2003

JKR: and he, yes, he does have certain adolescent, umm, rites of passage happen to him.

KC: And he's snogging with Hermione?

JKR: Hermione and Harry? Do you think so?

KC: No, I'm kidding.

JKR: Ron and Hermione *smiles and nods*, I would say, have... there's more... tension there.

-----------------------------

Q: Does Hermione like Ron as more than a friend?

A: The answer to that is in Goblet of Fire! -- J.K. Rowling's response to a fan's question during a BBC chat

---------------------

Q: In this movie we've seen the kids develop from the first film, can you tell us about the relationship between Harry, Ron, and Hermione and how that is developing film by film?

JKR: Well I think it is developing in the films as it does in the books, which is to say that they are, they're much stronger together than apart. They're much more aware, in the second film, of their particular strengths. So they're more effective, the children are able to do more complex things, for example the Polyjuice Potion. And also Chris in the second film has kind of foreshadowed what I don't do until the fourth book, which is that you get hints of certain feelings between the three of them, that belong to a sort of slightly more mature person.

Oh dear.... raving H/Hr fans on the run... :paranoid: *Runs*

Sigh...how to i get you H/Hr supporters to understand that it won't happen?
I mean its right in front of your eyes... J.K Rowling said plainly out loud at a huge interview that Harry and Hermione had a completely mutual relationship.

If you don't belive me yet, read this evidence page -
http://www.ronandhermione.org/wnl/index.php?x=couple/quotesjkr.php

And here, this was Chris Columbus, the old Director of the two first HP films being interviewed -

"It is foreshadowing, yeah. I just love the idea that the two of them, that there's an impending crush. And it's such a real thing for kids at that age. For instance, I asked Emma to hug Dan, and she said, 'No way,' and that was the day she was the most nervous being on the set. She was like, 'I am not going to hug him, no I'm not.' And I said, 'You've been petrified, this is one of your best friends, if not your best friend, you have to hug him,' I said, 'but you won't hug Ron, because that's where the tension is." - Chris Columbus (on being asked at TLC if the handshake between Hr/R was foreshadow of romance)

I'm sorry H/hr fans, but its honestly not going to happen. Even Dan, Rupert and Emma who play Harry Ron and Hermione have agreed that Ron and Hermione are going to get together in the end.

If you want even more proof click here to watch the actual interview -
http://www.sugarquill.net/goodshiprh/goodshipclip.mov

And reffering to your post Ash_misty4ever, you have to realise that Ron and Herm have a relationship simular to that of Ash and Misty. Its simple, its a Hate=Love relationship. Misty was pretty harsh on Ash when they first met, and continued it for quite awhile. Making fun of the person you have feelings for is a way of hiding it. They won't admit it, so their feelings come out in the oppisite way.

Anyhoo, i guess i can't stop you supporting what you want ^^;

... >.> Okay ... anyway. So how do you people think the HP series might end?

^_^;;; I made this theory up in January: According to Dumbledore, he said that Harry Potter was the one and only to defeat Voldemort. So, Harry goes up in some battle ground late in book seven. Harry and Voldemort become the eye of attention as Harry dodges, Voldemort attacks, and Harry jumps up and uses a spell. But one thing is, I don't know if Voldemort would use "wandless magic" or not. If not, then he would use another source. The other source, however, might break up and kill Harry and Voldemort in the proccess of exploding. Everyone looks and they see nothing but ... dead bodies. Then things go all like what happened in Harry's past. When his mom came up and protected him from Voldemort. Love saved Harry. Love of the ghosts, his friends, family. o_O; The End.

I was disappointed that Harry didn't see the Grim more, like he did in the book. Alas, the films will probably never live up to the books. I think the only reason I go to see them is because I like to see some of the stuff from the book acted out. It just helps bring the book out more, flushing out the details and so on.

Also, wasn't book three when Harry learns about his father and how he treated Snape? I can't remember....read all the books last summer.

I was disappointed that Harry didn't see the Grim more, like he did in the book. Alas, the films will probably never live up to the books.
*Sigh* Although i hate to admit it, i have to agree with you Skye.
I would have loved the Films to be able to live up to the Books, but that is just not possible, J.K's works are too deep and detailed. You could never put the magic into the movies like you can in the Books. Not that the Movies are that bad, they have done a great job on them really =D

What i can't stand is the fact that they have to cut so much out of the movie, i was really dissapointed that some of my favourite bits weren't included. They only include the big important bits of the story, the smaller details are removed.

Well heres my review on the Movie -

- My god, Lupin a BALD Werewolf! I don't mean to sound as if i expected Lupin to change into a beautiful, noble Wolf...but at least something with hair! In Ootp isn't it mentioned that one identifying sign of a werewolf is a tufted tail? How can it have a tufted tail if it's BALD?! O_O

- It could've been longer. I mean, POA is a longer book than the first two, and yet they're longer movies. I wouldn't have minded an extra half an hour in the theatre, and we would've been able to see some scenes from the book that weren't in there. If you can read the books, which are very long and detailed, you can sit through a 3 hour movie. ><

- Please, don't tell me i'm the only one who wanted to strut into the movie and rip that horrible, ugly mustache off of Lupin! Anyone else?

- No Cedric Diggory, Cho Chang, Oliver Wood, Peeves or Sir Cadogan.. (I loved Cadogan, he was hilarious) I didn't even notice them!

- No Hogwarts Quidditch Cup.....no Harry winning it for them...no awkward but funny moment on the pitch between Harry and Cho...i mean how could they remove the Cup match?! It was one of my favourite parts!

- No explanation of Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot, and Prongs! No explenation on the story behind the Marauder's Map! I LOVED that part.

- I found the Shrieking Shack scene rather silly and corny IMO. I never remember Sirius and Lupin going biserk and Harry mistaking them for saying that they'd kill Harry, not Wormtail together. It was all so hysterical, and Lupin was calm and collected in the book, he did'nt act like a raving lunatic in that scene.

- The freeze frame ending and the whole fact that Harry GOT the Firebolt at the end bugged me slightly, i mean he recived the Firebolt in the middle of the book, i can't belive they put the scene at the end.

- Hermione was slightly out of character. I mean, no big bushy brown Hair, no bossyness, no ranting about Homework. She didn't act 100% right IMO.

- Ron, having his most famous (And might i add, the best one he had in the movie) line in Poa, in the Shrieking Shack scene, when he stands up bravely with his broken leg and says 'If you want to kill Harry, you'll have to kill us too'
I don't understand why Hermione had to have that line ><

- I was dissapointed that the whole story behind Lupin, his calm and kind personality and the great lessons he made for the students was rushed. But i guess they just couldn't fit it all in :/
------------------------
Now here's the positive side ^^; -

- The Ron/Hermione hints, i was very happy with them ;) *Squee* <3

- Buckbeak looked BRILLIANT. I imagined him alot like that, he was beautifully animated and i was really satisfied.

- Dan, Emma and Rupert have really improved as actors. They are getting much better. Dan was awesome, he's really getting into Harry's character. Rejoice!

- It really was a much darker film, and i was really happy about it, because it had that real HP feeling, because HP is not a light hearted book, it is dark and gory at times. But that's a good thing *Grins*

- Gary Oldman was very good as Sirius! He can really play his role, and he looks just like him.

- The Dementors were satisfyingly scary and they lived up to their description. I have to admit that even though i knew Harry and the group would be okay, i was still slightly scared.

- The Time Turner sequence was done very well.

- Sirius in is Animagus Dog form was awesome. He was scary as he was meant to be before Harry knew that it was Sirius, but he looked handsome in a way. I guess i love Wolf like Dogs ^.~

- Hermione punching Malfoy, he deserved it. And i loved his expression, the little wimp. It was good they kept that scene, because it really shows that Hermione can kick butt.

Tatt, you've got some really good points, and I agree completely! I was really disappointed about the Quiddich Cup thing. Perhaps they'll stick it in the fourth movie somehow? I mean...how else is Cho going to be introduced? And Celdric, and all the other characters that weren't mentioned.

Somehow, I pictured Sirius as...taller maybe? Maybe he'll look a little better in the fourth movie, when he shaves off his beard and gets a haircut! ^^ Lupin...he looked a little young if you ask me. I dunno...

I thought the third book explained how Harry's dad was mean to Snape? Or was that book four? If it was in the third one...I'm thoroughly disappointed...I mean, that's a really important part!

I also enjoyed how the film was darker than the first two. I think the first two were fine, though, in terms of how dark they were. I meant the kids were 11 and 12 hardly the right age for "dark happenings."

I did enjoy it though. It's always nice to get a clear picture of what everything looks like. I was also excited to see a lot of stuff shot outside. I found the first two films to be a little claustrophobic, as most of the stuff was in the school. It was neat to see many of the scenes shot in the woods.

Okay...that's enough for now! I'm sure you are all tired of hearing me rant!

You can't compare the third movie and the third book. The book is much, much, much better. The Prisioner of Azkaban is by far one of JK Rowling's best works. The ending is perfect! I mean when you're reading the book, you just can't imagine what's gonna happen next. In the Shrieking Shack chapters, I was so anxious to know what was going on that I turned to the next page just to read a phrase or something and then turned back to where I was reading. Insane suspense! All this atmosphere, however, was lost in the movie because they cut all good dialogues! I have to say I hated the movie for that. Shrieking Shack scene = many chapters in the book = around 5 minutes in the movie. Unforgivable... Lupin looked silly and the werewolf... omg, no comments on that. >.< horrible!

Not to say the actors did a very poor work. Harry/Hermione trying to be sad/crying were ridiculous! I started to laught cause they weren't convincing anyone at all!

Buckbeak was perfect, though! ^_^ the only good thing in the movie.

Skye
July 1st, 2004, 12:52 PM
I'd have to say that the crying scene during Buckbeak's "beheading" wasn't convincing at all.

However, I thought the werewolf was terribly clever. I believe it is based on the Irish version of the werewolf...forgot where I heard that, but...yeah. I mean, JKR takes a rapid spin away from what is stereotypical to us as magical creatures, so I thought the werewolf was actually pretty neat. I expected Lupin's human form to be a little more...hairy I guess. I dunno.

But yeah, the movie wasn't terrible. They had to cut out a lot to make it run on time, and while I would have appreciated a longer more epic film, I understand their reasons for making it not so. I heard the fourth film is supposed to be in two two hour installments though, which should be good.

For me, the films aren't about including everything. They're for getting a clearer picture of what happens in the books.
