POKéMON MARBLE - The long life
By BARO - author of POKéMON QUARTZ
A hack of POKéMON FIRE RED

20 years after the adventures of Ran and J.Akira, a new quest begins in the region of GARNA in the country of Lowheaven. An innocent trainer will get involved in an obscure plot of gangsters, mafias and a great secret. However, the real enemy that everybody tries to fight is the Death... but is that a right thing to do?

Professor Baro will help you in your career as a trainer. Fight new trainers, new Pokémon, the GLASS ARMY and The Phantom, a mysterious character with a dark secret. Travel around the other regions in the country using the EGG TRAIN, catch the four guardians and a whole new collection of legendary. Be part of the legends of this magical country. Travel through the forests, the molehills, the seas, the caves, deserts, towns, (big) cities while meeting new trainers.


Pokémon Marble features some of the pokemon already in Pokémon Quartz, but most of them will be new for you. There are also some brand new Pokémon. All the new graphics are slighty more professional, as well as the text and other stuff.

· At MOLEHILLS, after exiting the mole galleries, you see the map border in the right. That's because there's no route connecting YET.

·Some events may be played again if you continue your game from beta 1. That's because I changed some flags.

Please submit glitches if you find them. That's what betas are for.

Well, I played it and it was even better than I thought. I have a question: are you going to keep half of the houses around closed? It looks like... lazy-ish.
Ah! I found an important glitch: the second battle with the rival, in the exit of the forest, your rival simply doesn't appear:

The first time, I thought he was calling me by phone... The battle goes on correctly, nevertheless.

(Oh, and this guy in the shop finishes his sentence with a comma instead of a dot... minor stupid thing)

Nice Screen shots, I like the Title Screen a lot. Wonder how you did it??

Anyway those Pokémon I've seen somewhere before, I have a Beta of that in Ruby. I looked at them through pokepic, but it is really old.

Well, I played it and it was even better than I thought. I have a question: are you going to keep half of the houses around closed? It looks like... lazy-ish.
Making every house around open would need to make 1000 useless maps. I'm adding some where needed, but it would be stupid. Actually I just add more houses, though closed, because it's stupid to see "cerulean city" and see 5 houses. WTF, FIVE HOUSES DO NOT MAKE A CITY!

Ok, big problem: the script of the phantom guy has a problem and isn't correctly finished, so the music start playing lower and nothing happens. Freezing. I had to use the walk through walls code to avoid him.

(Here was supposed to be a comment about how much I like the game, but, since Ozu is also around here...)

NOW that's weird, both things were tested (actally if the phantom think hadn't worked I wouldn't have passed that area.
It's soemthing usual when I post betas, so well, maybe I'll post a fixed update soon. Why the rival not appearing still puzzles me, I think I know why does it happen, but I still need to know a way to know where a sprite is even if I don't see it during the game...

hm rob , if you go to your party ineventory go look at their icons and you'll find out. he hasn't FULLY edited the main pokemon icons.

It's an ips file, you have to patch it on a rom for that you have to use Lunarips or winips.

You have to patch it onto a GBA file (FIre Red) and then itll work

I like your 'Under Construction' map. :nervous:

Yeah, I felt like pointing out that on Route Orange, you messed up a warp >.< On map 15.2 there are two warps that are told to go to Warp No. 6 on Route Orange, when there isn't a Warp No.6 (even though theres 6 warps.) Just thought I'd point that out before someone gets stuck inside a tree and has to reset their game :P

Oh and that same building, from the outside: When entering from the left side, you end up inside entering from the right...And when entering from the right [outside] you end up entering from the left on the inside...

I hope I wasn't a bother, and that I was actually of some help :)

Wow, this hack was released very quickly. You probably got help from WAH, am I right? Since no one helped on these forums, and I've never seen this thread until it got posted!

Nice one, I hope you make some more improvements! (making the sprites have less black outline, etc.)!

Sweet!! I saw some videos you did on YouTube. Quartz was one of my Favorite Pokemon Games!! When I knew your were doing Marble, I FREAKED. Great Job Baro!! Love it! <3 I can see you kept you Fakemon! I like your Fakemon. I cant wait to see your new pokemon! I will think of those as your 4th Gen! ^^

@Necrod - No, Baro does just about everything him self, Im sure. Thats why I love him ^^

Love it Baro! I love the Title Screen! I cant belive you put Denfrota, Bultoad, and Roellama for it! Cant wait till next Beta! Unless it will be completed next time XD. I wonder if this hack will take longer then Quartz, cause you only posted Quartz when it was complete. I love Baro's style of Hacking too, and to all those Fu**ing Idoits that.. Grr... I dont even want to get started. I think Baro's knows what I mean XD

After I finish Teh Marble Beta, I think I will celebrate by playing though Quartz for Youtube. ^^

I found a kinda weird "glitch", more like a mess up >_>, in the moleman gallery a wild carvanha appeared.

Nice hack!

Things that are good:
New Pokemon look good.
New Graphics
Added events and scripting
Moletown or whatever it's called.
Great maps.
"Secrets" added in, the hentai kid's notebook was a really good idea.

Things that can be improved:
Try to mix things up a bit. It doesn't always have to be this order:
First Town where you get your starters
Route with no trainers
Town with closed GYM and mart where you get an item
Route
Forest
City with first GYM Leader and Museum
Route
Cave area

Try to make it so the player doesn't know where he/she is going next.

Another thing, try to mix the Pokemon up a bit. It's obvious which pokemon were replaced with what (Which isn't a problem), but it would be better if you went to the first route and found different "replaced" pokemon than in Route 1 Kanto. Also, try some new move sets, the mouse learning Metal claw doesn't make much sense. (Although I see the new Weedle has spark, which is good.)

Overall, this looks like its going to be a good hack, I give this a 4/5, keep it up.

I wonder why everyone always has a problem like that >_> People said that about Quartz too. It could depend on the Rom Version. FireRed Rom came out in a V1.0 and V1.1 version. Same with the Quartz. People probley had a different version of Ruby then what Baro used for the Base...

Anyway.. I haven't found anything yet, not that Im that far >_> But I will be sure to let you know ^^

Pokeguy might have patched a non-clean rom, regarding his posts.

Yeah you are right. I was kinda lazy at the beggining, and I liked the first gym to be closed because the leader will be J.Akira and I want him to be the last leader.
From Kellygreen town in advance, it's when things get mixed. the train will take you to somewhere unexpected (it won't reach the region of MEROE as said) and then the stuff gets complicated) remember that this is just a beta, showing how is the game going to be, and the stuff I planned will show up later on.
Most pokemon have different movesets, and although I sticked to the original pokedex sometimes. Actually, although first route has bird/mouse, that "mouse" is actually a ground type armadillo. It would be equivalent to pidgey/sandshrew instead of pidgey/rattata, although armorito replaces pikachu and rattata was replaced with bubel (and both have new movesets BTW). I put armorito in first route because it's the most likely common pokemon I could find.
Another example: Ninjice replaces oddish, but it doesn't evolve, it's normal-type and it's moveset was repointed to smeargle's and edited so it has 4 sketchs... wait, something's wrong here, OH MY BAD that WON'T WORK well I'll fix it (I'll make it learn each 5 levels or something... nevermind, I said nothing.




Dark empoleon:
Where exactly in the mole galleries have you found it? I can't find it and AM shows the right pokemons... have you patched a clean rom?

Oh and BTW Scimp wouldn't stand achance against many pokemon... it's as weak as a magikarp (if I remember right, even weaker)

1- either you have another version of the rom or I doubt that it's clean. I found no missignos (and I played through hollow woods), carvanhas or that stuff and I looked. Also, covolts evolves at level 12. At level 10, gusvolts evolves into covolts

2- I already said (at least in the readme.txt) that the icons are in the TODO list, and I won't get into them until I make all the pokemon, at least the 151 first

Also, I've just fixed
· the rival bug (the script on teh right had an extra command [this happens for recycling existing scripts >_<] that replaced the event) BTW: command 0x63 0xAA 0xXXXX 0xYYYY where A is the person event number, and X and Y are the coordinates, is a command to replace a person event. (don't remember if A was 1 or 2 bytes)

·THE PHANTOM script. A wrong pointer in the last movement, so it pointed to a random sequence of bytes and crashed. Now it spins and dissappears as it was supposed to do in the beggining.

·The texts. put a dot instead of a comma in the shop and MADE the sign in the exit of the galleries (my bad, I forgot it. What you saw there was the script at 0x000000).

Waiting for more glitches support and setting background musics, and a fixed beta will be released soon.

I'm sorry about that, it is a bug that has been fixed... so in a few days (it can even be tonight, or tomorrow) I'll post the fixed version.
So the best thing you can do is save right before the battle and wait.

PS: Regarding carvanha and the missingno's hex index. I insist that it might be because of not clean roms that had pokemon from the third generation in these zones, so when patching, only the first byte of the pokemon data was replaced (patches just copy differences between roms) but the second (a 01) wasn't. Carvanha is 14a and geodude 4a so that makes sense. I wasted time looking for them in hollow woods and the galleries and haven't found them (and I even found RAKA, the rarest pokemon to find in hollow woods). thanks anyway

If anyone else finds it, please tell me please, though.

Done and gone. Just a mistake choosing the sprite. Probably I didn't see it because I just couldn't play it three times, with each starter. Thanks again.

Regarding a quartz walkthrough with pics I saw in a certain forum, this is 1000 times better than quartz consideering I finish it and the stuff I have planned works and that kind of stuff. Thanks ^_^

Actually the pokemon mafie will be a yakuza that will help glass army and the death thing is because they all are pursuing the eternal life, stop ageing.
But yeah, this is more mystery themed: the phantom's identity, how is all the stuff that happens related, etc.

First off, let me say that I absolutely loved quartz. Interesting story, decent sprites (mostly, some I have to admit were a little iffy...) you get the picture.

Second, I can hardly wait for this to be finished. It's so awesome, but I'll be patient. I know how long these can take.

Well Baro, as I told you, I'm gonna hold till I start to see more stuff in the game and less problems as well (I want to get a good impression, and you'll have enough people helping you detecting bugs :P)

I'm not that amazed on the new pokes graphics, just because there's another hack with better new pokes, and well, you lose in that area. But, since I know how you like doing that all by yourself, I still think I must praise your work. Anyway, the idea of new pokes is not just about its graphics, it's more about new strategies, which basically, that's what a RPG is for :)

I just hope your sense of humor (which was one of the things that I really enjoyed from Quartz) is still present in this hack (watch out man, there are kids around... ;P)

Alright, wishing you good luck on the project. I'm sure you'll be able to finish it no matter what. Keep it up!

I have already fixed the stuff and put the music, but I'm afraid there's a big error that will delay the fixed version. Some events I made (doug, baro giving the running shoes, etc) disappear when they happen, but if you save the game (using the game saving system, not the emulator's savestates as I always use?) reappear when you load the game.

I'm figuring why does this happen, but my intuition says it's because of the flag numbers (maybe a set of flags are reseted when you load the game?). I hope it's that because that's the first thing I'm going to try... and if it works, the job will be done FAST.

Most likely is the flag thing you mention. I remember having the same problem with the Rockets events at Goldenrod, and a quick change of flags solved the problem.

Yep. Looks like in order to kill events, triggers need flags over 4000 and people less than 1000.
I already fixed one (out of 5), and fixing the others depends on how long I take to reach each event.

BTW, I just noticed armorito's back sprite is too high. If you see other backs with wrong height, plese report them. This happens because most pokemon were meant to replace others in the beggining.

I think the idea was making some of the old pokes of Quartz making a new appearance on Marble, which is something we should be grateful for, because some of those were really good (Plug-oink is a good example... I always laughed at that thing :laugh:)

I'm pretty sure Chu means mouse. Pika is lighting. Raychu=ray mouse

Also, the design of Coalchu is based on Zelda's Bombchu... which are mouse-looking bombs, not lighting bombs.

I've played the Beta version and it looks very good so far,except for some Bugs mentioned earlier.Hope you can finish this hack,I'm pretty sure it's much and much better than Pokemon Quartz.Good Luck Baro!

Yeah when I fought some rakas I noticed that spore was a bit too much (i didn't knew it was so accurate). I'll change it to sleep powder in the future.

And no, foxy was just a little SA reference that won't repeat anymore. Also, most of the pokemon that were in team foxy won't be in marble.

You may have see me in the sp forums, but I'll post in this thread because sp, specifacally the marble thread, is a total disaster (sp is not the same since the mendrax came in, and it will not be a peaceful place again until they're banned).

Anyway, I'm glad you changed the tree, this one looks cool.
But I don't like the secondary tree. It looks...odd.

Besides that, the only critic I have to make is about your maps.
They're a bit too empty, and they are pretty repetitive (they all look similar, using almost all the same tiles).

Yeah, Spore is 100% accurate versus Sleep Powder's 70%. Spore learned in the 20s or so would be fine though.

Figured it would just be a reference, but fighting her would have been neat. Swap.Bear would be nice to have too.

One of the legendaries is water/dragon. (komokume, whose sprite can be seen in the computer at laetitia's house, in grace beach). Also, progon is still there and so rubygon and sapphirgon (which is water/dragon). BTW: I might make a new evolution for progon, emeralgon or somethign like that, parodying rayquaza.
I may make some new dragon type mixes too. I like them.

You have to go to Laetitia's house (Grace beach) and talk to her while having the charmed tag.

One of the new things in this hack is the amulet tag and the charmed tag. some events (in beta 1.1, only one for each tag, but obviously there will be more during the game) will take place only if you have one of the tags, which you can exchange anytime in Cobaltstation city (in the ruined house).

The train's name is because when I sprited it, it looked like an squared egg or something like that. hehe. But I liked it so yeah.

Yeah, I can't control where you warp to, but that's no problem because I'm replacing the former docks with maps of inside the train. So, after the cutscene, you'll appear inside the train. Also, I'll mess with map scripts so you'll be asked if you want to stay in this station or not. the idea is the following:

(not in the first trip) The train normally goes counter-clockwise along the four regions, in this order: GARNA (north)- MEROE (west)- GASU (south) - KIEL (east)

Once you get the season voucher for the train, when you get to a station you'll be asked if you want to go in.

If so, after the cutscene, you'll warp to next station, but you'll appear in the train.

Automatically, a script will tell you in which station you are and will ask you if you want to get out here or stay until the next station

if you say YES, repeat 3 and 4. If you say NO, you can walk in the train and talk to the rest of passengers or get out (if so, you'll warp to the current region's station). you will also be able to check the windows of the train, which will run the script in step 4

It's like in a real train. Or more likely like a subway in most cities. You pay the entrance to the subway (in this case, you'll get a voucher), mount the train, and stay there until you reach the station you want to go.
In the game, it'll take more time to the user to travel, but it's more realistic.

haha looks great, the only thing Im kinnda mad about is that some of it is espanol. I could probably play through the whole thing and find most of the language changes needed to be made, but I dont think it'd really be worth it. Another great game though :)

That happened a lot in quartz, but not that much here. Actually the only spanish thing I remember here is when Baro says "¡Bravísimo! ¡Sí señor!" when you defeat the rival...
So that is actually NOT a problem.

I must say that I apologize because someone in StudioPokemon told me you wouldn't be hacking anymore so I hacked into Quartz to know about the other pokémons that you made. I was completely fanatic about Quartz that I could even get to Karendi.
I hope you continue hacking. I haven't found any bug or error in this Beta of marble but tell me... Is Laetitia the Champion or is it our Rival as it was in FireRed?

Also... Phantom's dark secret is Prof. Baro?(In the letter, Baro tells Ran(I like this name) that he has got a bigger reason for going to Garna)

Well, in my opinion is good to have some parts of Spanish in the texts. It's a good way to make more people getting interested into learning some Spanish, which wouldn't hurt :)

After all, as far as I remember, the small Spanish texts weren't really that critical and didn't affect that you couldn't understand what you had to do (mainly they were more jokes, am I right?)
(I remember Prof.Baro getting mad and cussing at that Sever for destroying his magazines XP)

I don't know if the champion will be the rival or not.

As for bobolo and bobola... oops! I forgot to edit their evolution, so they're the same as goldeen and staryu... level 33 and water stone. Mea culpa.
Anyway, in next beta that'll be changed and it'll be at level 21.

Hola Baro! Well, I decided to try the game to see how it was doing (yeah, finally :P), and seems everything is going fine. Not perfect, but as long as it is something interesting is enough.

I still have to say that I really don't like the appearance of most of your new Pokemon, but, well, it's just my own opinion, and I'm sure more people than me will like them. It was strange to be using new movesets and that, so that's what it really mattered to me with this "new Pokemon thing"

Hopefully, you'll keep improving the rest of the game with more things that we never knew about... (you, little friend of Kawa XD) So, I'm eager to know what else the future of Marble has for us. Good luck, man!

PS: Every time we cross the railroad we look both sides, it's a good touch, but, I wonder, will the train ever cross that railroad? XD

Scimp evolves at level 35 to a not-so-****ty dragon pokemon (expelle), so that's fine

The 8 max ethers is a glitch, because hidden items in FR work a different way, the item data is in the same place where in a segular singpost the script offset is put, so AM always saves it with an extra 08. I gotta check all maps with hidden items and edit all the 08 to 01 so you get one.

Hmmm, I gotta mess with that script again (to make the character run without glitches when using the bike), so I think I'll add something involving the random command (8F) so sometimes you'll see the train run. Anyway, that has to be after things that happen in the second beta, because the train is said to have a huge, unusual delay. That's no end-of-beta-excuse, but part of the plot.

Apart from the Garna league, there will be a kiel-gasu-meroe league with 4 more badges à la orange islands.

When I noticed here that Thé Baro is creating another hack I just had to sign up!

I've only just got out of Hollow Woods, but here's what I think of the game up till now:
THE GOOD
- The graphics!!! Great combination of GBA, NDS and entirely new stuff if you ask me.
- The mapping/locations!!! Truly original and even daring with maps that are way more complex than the original games, which I love, 'cause I think it gives it a more "realistic look". (natural landscapes aren't always nicely devided in real life as well)
- The level of hardness!!! Finally, a game that's actually a challenge right from the beginning! You won't believe how many times I had to head back to the PokéCenter when I was in Hollow Woods. I actually had to restart the game a couple of times because I lost :P. Like I just barely won from the girl with all the starters, then all of a sudden that frikkin' rival wants to battle, I got p0wned so hard.
- The story!!! I've only read about it, but I think that's where your true originality shines thru. Up till now I liked the hidden place in the forest (where I got p0wned by the school kid the first time as well lol)
- The mature content!!! It always makes me lol when I read stuff in your games like "Damn you!" and "I hate you!". Oh, I rofl'd reading about the hentai drawing of the school teacher.
- Some of the pokémon types combo's!!! Gusvolts electric and bug?!? Armarito's got some electric moves as well?!? Awesome!!!

THE BAD
- Nothing so far!!! Just a little remark: in Hollow Woods you can find an Antidote but it's pretty useless since none of the pokémon you can find can poison. In Tangerine City there's this cool music with these wicked hard drums, almost like some 80's hip hop. Did you make that song or did it already exist?

By the way, I was thinking about creating like an encyclopedia for Marble, like Bulbapedia with lots of info and pics/screenshots. Anybody interested in the idea?

When I noticed here that Thé Baro is creating another hack I just had to sign up!

I've only just got out of Hollow Woods, but here's what I think of the game up till now:
THE GOOD
- The graphics!!! Great combination of GBA, NDS and entirely new stuff if you ask me.
- The mapping/locations!!! Truly original and even daring with maps that are way more complex than the original games, which I love, 'cause I think it gives it a more "realistic look". (natural landscapes aren't always nicely devided in real life as well)
- The level of hardness!!! Finally, a game that's actually a challenge right from the beginning! You won't believe how many times I had to head back to the PokéCenter when I was in Hollow Woods. I actually had to restart the game a couple of times because I lost :P. Like I just barely won from the girl with all the starters, then all of a sudden that frikkin' rival wants to battle, I got p0wned so hard.
- The story!!! I've only read about it, but I think that's where your true originality shines thru. Up till now I liked the hidden place in the forest (where I got p0wned by the school kid the first time as well lol)
- The mature content!!! It always makes me lol when I read stuff in your games like "Damn you!" and "I hate you!". Oh, I rofl'd reading about the hentai drawing of the school teacher.
- Some of the pokémon types combo's!!! Gusvolts electric and bug?!? Armarito's got some electric moves as well?!? Awesome!!!

THE BAD
- Nothing so far!!! Just a little remark: in Hollow Woods you can find an Antidote but it's pretty useless since none of the pokémon you can find can poison. Ah, so you haven't seen it performing electric movements? Fine then. Yeah, the pokedex is still not done, so that's pikachu's entry.

AS for Landau, he actor's career has actually nothing to do with it. In that show they took videos of him and did humoristic thigns dubbing them. He "presented" a section of the show called "Dr. Strange's Lab". As I said, this would make no sense if you don't know the show (which you don't, so it's pointles to talk about it)

Wow, you guys train your pokemon a lot! my bultoad is level 38 but I battled many new trainers from beta 2!


On the release date thing: no, I started college so I don't know how much can I work on the hack (I have to work in the laptop, in another city, going here and there, and I don't have internet in the apartment yet). Anyways, I never plan release date, but when I have a certain amount of work done I consider releasing a beta in a few time. Your scimp must wait a lot more. Obviously, beta 1 is not planned to evolve-them-all(tm)

Also, returning to the topic of icons, I'm considering making icons overworld-sprite-like, in front view, as in the first versions but with different sprites for each pokémon (obvioulsy).

Hmmm... Front or Diagonal view? Well, it's really hard to decide, because in the end all are new pokes, so they would look original in any case.

If I'm gonna be strict about it, I'd pick "front" because there are still some pokes originally from Quartz, and since I want to make you work a bit more... :badsmile:
(But they could also be useful to you when you need to make an overworld out of one ;))

The rules of setmaptile is that the map has to be refreshed in order to see the changes. special 0x8E does that. So, to make temporary changes, there's no need on messing with level scripts. In order to make the changes permanent, just put the setmaptiles on the level script (under the byte 01 of the script header, which is loaded before the map is loadesd, so there's no need on refreshing the map). Here, I used a single variable and the command 0x17 (addvar) to make the variable be added 1 after each trainer was beaten, and in the level script, I made the bridges load depending if the variable was >= 1, 2 or 3..



Btw: as for the animation, I recycled the lasers of the lt surge gym, if anyone's wondering.

The new starter down is good, but what is that cave for at the top?

First of all, let me say that I am loving this hack. ^^ It is supremely excellent in every way a hack should be, plus a bit nostalgic as well as I see how Kanto is changed but yet is still essentially the same. I love the ideas you've applied to it, especially the Molehills and the inn and the occasional cell phone call. I'm at the second gym now and I can't wait to see more! :D

However, there is one thing that continues to bug me as I play the hack, and that's the Pokemon sprites. The overworlds are great, but the sprites of the Pokemon show lots of basic mistakes. A pity, too, because the designs are actually quite good (I love the ratattareplacement... what's it called again? It's awesomely designed, but the sprite itself is a bit of a letdown.

Anyhow, I'm really looking forward to the next beta! Keep up the good work! ^^

Teh Baro..you are almost..no scratch that the best hacker..you have some awesome scripts,maps,sprites(though I don't like the ghost sprite),tilesets etc. I will really want to play the full version of this hack..but I can be patient while I wait for my hack to catch up to Shiny Gold,Liquid Ocean,Rocket's Revenge...But I will never exceed you.(My brain lacks the mass logic you can have) 'Cause I'm a 12 year-old! The type symbols can be found in tangerine city pokemon center. (but thanks for commenting, because ground-type actually looks like a hanger, I'll cut it by a pixel)
Okay so here it goes. I made the symbol system because I wanted to add somethign different. Maybe I'll redraw the symbols so they look more rectangular... well:

White circle - normal
Blue drop - water
Green leaf - grass
orange flame - fire
orange lighting - electric
greenish yellow circle with horns (beetle head) - bug
pink half moon - psychic
cyan wing - flying
violet ♀-like symbol (looks like the sting badge from quartz) - poison
brown triangle (aka hanger, although it depicts a mountain) - ground
grey round thing with 4 holes - rock
dark blue face with tongue out - ghost
red punch - fighting
dark blue Ying-yang - dark
cyan snowflake- ice
light brown square - metal
orange dragon face - dragon
And ??? type is a "?"

I'm open for suggestions on symbols, they are not perfect (actually most of them just aren't good or just suck...) and so they are not definitive. And changing them is a matter of minutes since I have the pallete and offset localized in tilemolester.



Ah! I forgot: Current progress:

Ended the secret tunnel (a tunnel below dr kayuko's house, the burned house in route orange, which leads to cobaltstation park), although I still have to do the secret in it (each dungeon HAS a secret), but it'll have something to do with explosion (ah, did I menction explosion will be used as a HM? Yes it will, and it will involve a bomberman cameo! To be more exact, you'll have to battle 5 bombermen: red, green, blue, black and white)

Next stop: Cobaltstation city gym! Franz - fire-type.

Also, it won't be fully an HM, It will be through a move tutor that doesn't stop teaching you the move explosion. (I wanted to modify the HM8, but I have no idea how to)

Now, I'll check move tutor scripts and such and change the move that the explosion tutor teaches, and use it in a ninjice statue.

Right now I've just saved the 4th gym tileset. It'll be a factory-like place with steam pipes that will push you around (an old puzzle with a new look). When I put it to work, I'll post some pics/vids/something. But that'll be later because I g2g to the dentist now.

It's not an event itself, it's a tile behaviour that already exists. Like in Rocket Casino Basement in celadon or viridian gym. But the fact that it won't be a weird tile that magically pushes you whirling around, it's something more logical when you see it.

Yes. Same as quartz, I'm working alone. It's more work, but you don't have to argue with nobody, and you don't have to organize stuff, so the progress is faster since it's lineal.

Here. Some pics from the fourth gym (no trainers yet). When you step on the steam things (which are animated, they were flowers in the original) at the end of the pipes, you get pushed in the direction of the pipe (spinning around until you hit a wall or more steam). Some of them can't be seen too well because of the fog. It's not a too complicated puzzle but it's fun when you step somewhere by mistake and you get pushed to the door of the gym (I though that would run the warp, but it doesn't. Aw... too bad. It would be fun to be kicked out of the gym).

When I put the trainers, I'll check if they can 'see' you while you are being pushed. If so, you'll be able to avoid trainers by doing this.
Edit: Tested. No. Damn. Weeeeell. ¯\(º_o)/¯

Anyway, it's a cute and funny fire-type gym with a big-.bearded fire-type leader. Enjoy.

Next TODO: edit the trainers, add the advicer (hm, in fire red's erika's gym your fan isn't there, is he afraid of girls or what?), edit the leaders and then go on to new routes.

With the steam, it's either a script that'll make you move as soon as you touch it or edited tiles of the arrows, just like the ones in the 8th gym of Kanto.

I think that'll l make a serious change throughout the game!

Well actually, more than editing the arrow tile, I made new tiles and assigned the spinning behaviour to them. The original tileset was celadon gym's.

Yeah, when you're spinning and a trainer sees you, you stop spinning (but while the trainer talks to you you keep walking ¿?)

You are doing great. In my opinion, this is one of the most ground-breaking
pokemon advance hacks yet.

One suggestion:
You should assign the ying-yang icon to the phsycic type, and give the dark type a satanic allegory (red pentagram? red demon? red trident?)

He used the Yin-Yang symbol, based on Quartz 8th Gym. Also, where is light, there is dark, in same quantities so... Yin Yang Symbol is good as it is...
I dont remember the psychic symbol but a purple whirl would be fine xD

Look at the block pallete
In the upper right corner of the second tileset (under the water tiles)
It's a gym sign!
When you beat the pokemon league, a gym will appear. Baro will show you the gym and tell you that the leader is... you! You'll have random trainers challenging you. There will be a map script in every city (only in garna) where you have a chance of receiving a phone call that says that you have a challenger, and then when you go to the gym a random trainer waits for you.

Well Baro, it's not like the originalest idea ever (that just because I know that its something many Online Pokemon games want to do... ;P), but, well, it'll be interesting to see it working on a rom hack... Good luck implementing it!

That's right, but this won't be the case. You'll have to defend your gym from weak trainers, so you'll have to win. If you lose, the trainer won't be there anymore (i.e.: the flags will be set before the battle) and you'll restart at tangerine city (because I ****ed up with the respawns). If I remember correctly, a type of trainerbattle accepts a message if you lose (the rival does this), so the challenger will say something like "Hurray, that's it! I got the XXX badge!" before you white out.

The level of the trainers will be approximately the same as the POKéMON league, but the chances of having a phone call with a gym battle when you enter a city will be very low (probably 1%) so it won't be a fast source of exp.

Yeah, about 10 trainers or so. But they'll reappear randomly.

Wistwoods is the route around wist castle (in the videos) and blue lands is just the route labeled as "under construction" in the beta.

Yes, they are a lot bigger. And one of the cities (rainbowpolis, the capital city) will be a metropolis. Really big with a lot of streets and such. If it results too big, maybe I put taxis or buses or something. If I do that, maybe I put a street/place you can only reach in taxi.
I do this because it's lame to see in the original sames things like "fuchsia city" and then there's only a couple of houses, a center and a gym.

Where will the GYM appear? Would it be in the first town where you can't go in that GYM?

Bomberman cameo. The hideout is inspired in the levels from bomberman (the way the big rocks are placed, in a 25% dither, etc)
The prize is HM08 EXPLOSION.

Not a super-mega-fantastic-incredible thing, but a new thing. Remember clark the clerk? He's the guy in every shop in quartz and in marble too. (My joy/jenny parody: they all look the same, they all are clerks and they all are named clark). In quartz he used to appear as a trainer. In marble too, but the difference is that when you defeat him he'll sell you something. Not inspired on it, but when I finished it it reminded me of the deku scrubs from the zelda series.

It will have other uses, such as opening doors on caves or breaking a dam. But yeah, maybe it's exaggerated to have cut, rock smash and explosion to have similar effects... Hmmm ah I know, now I know how to edit HMs, I'll edit the hm rock smash and put something else. I'll put the explosion rocks on the rock smash rocks slots, make the explosion rocks script out of the rock smash rock (changing the badge check if it has, [haven't cheked it yet]), and think something else.
Remind me to edit the dialogues where people talk about rock smash.

EDITED: I've though about it and it would be cool to have SPIDER WEB as an HM. In some caves, you'll be able to create bridges using spider web. Also forces you to have a bug-type pokémon in your party (or to spend a lot of time in a certain route to catch a ninjice, which can learn every move.)

And yes, EXPLOSION is devastating, but also faints your POKéMON. Having unlimited explosions suggests new strategies.
Maybe I put new rules on the league so you can't take revives or max revives with you, to prevent kamikaze strategies. Are there other ways to revive a pokémon?

When you use rare candy on a fainted Pokemon it revives with only 2 HP. Maybe it's not a good idea to ban all revives/max reviews, but you should let someone take a certain amount in instead (5 would be a good number).

There also are revival herbs, but I think that forbidding all kind of revives is kinda extreme... I agree with CBM: restrict the amount.

Okay. I'll do that. The maximum of revival items permitted (the sum of all you have) will be 3, no candies included. (I think I have an idea on how to do that... hell of a long script).
3, because 5 if too much. Not many people uses 5 revivals in one run at the league. 3 is fair.

I think a Spider Web is very useful if we want to cross around cliffs and caves and such. It creates pathways and bridges for us to cross obstacles and falls. Brilliant idea, Baro.., ya always have something to amaze us! :D

You will only be able to use spider web at certain places. and yes, that's a lot of script. And long scripts, consideering the bridges will appear tile by tile (so it has a better look). The setmaptile command (which I'll use) also sets if it's passable or not. They'll dissapear after leaving the map, though, so that's no problem.

Rock smash will go out.

There will be 8 gyms in Garna (apart from your own gym) but then there will be another league in the other regions, meroe, gasu and kiel, with another league and such. It may have about 4 gyms.

Hey, Baro, about the gym thing: do you think there could be a way to name your badge as whatever you want? That would be cool.

He'll be the last gym leader. That's why I wanted to keep tangerine city gym closed. It was a Idea I had since the beginning. If I hadn't though about this, I wouldn't have kept the original scripts.

This hack rules. Maybe you could edit some of the moves. You could change growl into a move that could be like 120 power. Keep up the good work.

That would be just plain stupid, and also I don't know of a program that can edit the attacks in FR yet (A-tack only works in ruby. Ouch), and I won't do that manually.

The only attack that I "edited" was sketch. Actually I just changed it to "quick learn", which is the same but with a different name. Ninjice (the pokemon that depicts those statues in every town) learns quick learn every time it levels up if it doesn't know it yet.

I think I found a way of naming the badge...
Baro: When prof Baro talks to the trainer, he could open a writable case(as when you catch a pokemon and want to nickname it) and name the badge, then the badge is saved in the Bag, with the name you gave it. It'll require a lot of script... but I know you can do it Baro, you're the best!
