Tyranitar is highly regarded because of:
a) sandstream
-kills leftover abusers (which is a BIG BONUS)
-KO shedinja, and flail/reversal abusers auto
b) dragon dance
-all dragon dancers except kingdra and lapras can put an excellent use to it, including t-tar... super high attack already, and with dragon dance he becomes a brutal killer
c) excellent stats
-stats in the ranks of sala, meta and draggy... which is 'very nice' stats... so high def that even a brick break (no STAB) cannot OHKO it.
Most people can't really see the strenght of a POkemon until you meet up against it in battle. Who knows that unmentionable B can be that useful with such low defense? Until you see one in action against one... that is.

it is so highly regarded because it is really strong and can be used in lots of situations because it can learn a wide range of attacks.
