I used to have an art thread here but that was on the old PC.

Im not really very confident about my work but I decided I would post my pics here all the same, any feedback is welcome. Um...I do my pics on MS Paint, mostly, and I do them freehand with the mouse, from scratch. I hope people like them...

*nervous about making an art thread* O_o well here are a couple...

This is the first pic I ever did on Paint. I was so bored one day and decided to draw something and it was better than I thought...

Here is one of the first Pokemon ones I did...most of my pics now are of Arcanine. No prizes to who guessed at who inspires them...XD.

Awesome dragon with the great fire effect (i can tell you didn't do it on paint) it looks very cool, maybe I should save it into a disk. and write "Soph's Art" XD I got all my art in a disk, why not this? =)

That's cool Soph! ^^ i likie the wings the best. i take it that's what ya worked hard to complete

Soph
July 1st, 2004, 05:58 PM
Actually the wings were easy. What I did was get onto photoplus and do a square pic that was nothing but lots of pastel colours scribbled over the top of one another on a large brush tip. Then I blurred them and smudged them together to get that swirly patsel mix. It was a small pic only, mind. Then I copied the little square ofpretty colours and pasted it onto paint, then repeatedly duplicated it again and again until I had quite a large canvas covered with it. I put it back on photoplus to blur the gaps between the pasted squares then reo-opened it on paint. Then was the tedious bit, I copied the pic on top of the cloured square with the wings ovwer the colours and unhcked 'draw opaque' in the tools menu. Then the colours showd through the wings. Then it took about half an hour to slowluy but surely erase all of the colour execpt in the wings. That took forever, but it was worth it. The wings look great ^_^

Some one mentioned they would like to see some drawings I actually did by hand on paper. WellI stopped drawing like that some time ago because I lack enough skill to draw well on paperim better with the mouse on the computer. But...well, I do draw some times in a little sketchbook I have but I rarely show the pics to anyone, they are not very good. But since some one asked I guess I might as well scan a couple of them and post them here.

Please bear in mind all these are just rough drawings and I didn't put time into perfecting them or anythingthey are just very rough ideas of what Ill turn into another computer pic some time. Well, anyway, here is one.

http://img46.photobucket.com/albums/v142/PokeSoph/CareFor.jpg

Okay well that one, (in case you cant already tell) is of Arcanine caring for Mew, shes injured. You cant see the scratches and bruises on her too well, my scanner sucks and for some reason insists on enlarging everything so that it fills like the whole page, and it blurs when I shrink the images so the pics I scan tend to be blurry. But yeah she got hurt and Arcy is taking care of her and making her feel better.

I love your last pic Soph. For some reason, roughly sketched pictures are my favorite (probably because that's what most of my art is nowadays. XD) I like the symbolism you're portraying in all of your pics too. Like how andy is protective of you around here, that Arcanine is protective of his buddy Mew.

she must be dreaming of arcanine...either that or dreaming of a magical world full of candy!

Nope, It's Arcanine she is dreaming about. XD.

Well, this one is the first one I did in the sketchbook. I was watching our cat play with a piece of bread crust on the floor; she looked so funny when she was about to pounce how she went down on her front paws and had her butt in the air and was wriggling ready to pounce, so I figured Arcy would look funny if he did that and tried to draw him in the playful pounce position our cat was in. well its an okay pic, I guess, the legs are not quite right but as I said these are only rough drawings.

Okay here is my latest pic. And no its not incomplete, I purposely drew it
like that so it fills the whole page (like I said I have a small
sketchbook.) you can see the spiral binding at the top anyway so its obvious
that the book is small; this is the entire pic, I only wanted part of the
Arcy and Mew in this one. I don't usually draw them this big or pay so much
attention to the expression on their faces. I think this pic is kinda
touching. Anyways, here:

Now for my latest picXD. Now this is a funny pic, and I got the idea for it from Andy (as usual) and something he said about two weeks ago. I was sitting on my bed this afternoon tapping my pencil on the sketchbook and thinking of what to draw and remembered that a few weeks ago Andy was complaining about being tired and when we were talking and I asked him are you there? he replied with yes im here, I was about to go to bed then you came on. But im about to fall over. And when I said fall over? he said it was because he was real tired.

So for fun I drew a pic of Arcy so dead tired from too many late nights (XD) that he is staggering with exhaustion and clearly about to fall over and fall asleep on the floor XD. Poor Arcyears back, legs getting tangled, hes dead tired you can practically see him thinking sleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep!!! XD.

http://img46.photobucket.com/albums/v142/PokeSoph/Exhausted.jpg

Well it is only a quick 5-minute pic I drew but I like it (its funny XD).

Okay well let me tell you all something. Now you might have heard this a hundred times before, but ANYONE can draw if they try. Now when I first started drawing pokemon, my pics STANK. they were SOOOOOOOOO bad. For a while I gave up then a year ago I tried a bit more and began to practice. I posted some one PC and got encouragement from members and I improved the more i tried. Now I can draw reasonably well, and im only going to get better over time.

ANY ONE OF YOU CAN DRAW. It just takes practice and I swear that is true, I neve used to beleive it...now I do.

you XDWhy not share them with us Soph? Like how you coloured that blade?
My technique isn't great, I usually go by feelings when I draw or colour...The blade? taht is actually a real easy technique. I just did lines of blue and white in the blade and then used a smudge tool to mix it together for the effect it came up with ^_^ try it, its easy and looks cool!

I'll do a detailed instruction thing and post it soon ^_^.

Soph
October 19th, 2004, 07:21 PM
As promised I did a small (well big once its posted XD) guide on how I did the colour for the Brotherhood and stuff. Its really very simple (I was just lucky to come up with the idea) and I think it can be done on most graphic and art programs but I can only use mine, PhotoPlus, as a guide. The toolbars and options and so on will differ with programs of course but I just hope I can give a basic idea (I guess im proud of my technique and want to share it properly ^_^)

First of all, I have my PhotoPlus window and my pic (before its coloured.)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v142/PokeSoph/Screen1.png

Well that is simple enough XD. Okay like I said its real easy. All you do now is pick the colours you wanted (in my case blue and white) and draw a few lines of the two colours on the object you want to colour (in my case the Brotherhood, and I did blue and white lines.) oh yes, depending on the size of the object you might want to use a thick brush tip like I did (it blends better) just experiment with all this until it looks right (I did the first colour in the sword 5 or 6 times before I was happy.) here is the screen once I have done my few lines of colour:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v142/PokeSoph/Screen2.png [Note that I have zoomed in to make it easier to see]

Okay next step is to meld the blue and white together, PLEASE NOTE that I was rushed and had homework last night when I made this guide, and the examples are not as good as the actual pic, but the procedure is the same as I used only when I did the pic I put more time into it than I had to make this guide. Anyway, my Smudge tool (the Smudge tool is what you need for this) is found under my retouch tools. It varies with programs but most graphic programs should have one:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v142/PokeSoph/Screen3.png http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v142/PokeSoph/Screen4.png

Okay those are where mine are situated. Please note! Important information! If your smudge tool seems to barely be doing anything to smudge your pic, try changing the Brush Tip size if you have the option. A larger brush tip will smudge better, but make it too big and you get a mess. Try changing the size until it looks right when you smudge. Anyway, once its done you should have the colours melded. The smudge will actually drag the blue and white together and get a nice mix of colours, note that I use the same technique on the fur. Here is an example:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v142/PokeSoph/Screen5.png

I know, it doesnt look that different, does it? But once you zoom out and have covered a larger area it looks great. Here I have zoomed out to normal size:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v142/PokeSoph/Screen6.png

Yes I know it doesnt look as good as the proper pic, but these shots are just to make the guide understandable.

Now, a few more important notes. This process is VERY time consuming and tedious. I took about 10 or more hours on the pic I did, mainly on the colouring process. Im fussy though and not very skilled, mind you. Anyway, it doesnt work if you try to colour a big area all at once, you usually have to do it in bits, like in the examples where I showed a small bit of the brotherhood being coloured. When you get to the edges, it gets tough. The best thing you can do at edges is to fill in the pixels with a paintbrush, and try to match the colours well. The smudge tool has one annoying factor, and that is that it will smudge your outline if you drag it over it X_X. so when you get to the edges you cant smudge them too well. Just use the tool to drag the colour as close to the edges as you can then fill the rest. Also, as you get to the edges reduce the size of your smudge-tool tip so it doesnt smudge such large areas.

But, the process may drive you crazy, as its so slow and tedious.

When youre colouring, say like I did for the fur, dont use TOO many colours. If you need brown, try to use different shades of brown and orange and smudging them; it will also mix the colours and create new ones. In the end you get like a nice meld of browns that look realistic ^_^ you can do it with many colours but try to stick to several shades of a one colour when using this technique.

Anyway, I did the guide as promised ^_^ and even though the slow, dull process means most people just wont even bother trying, maybe some day some one will find this useful ^_^.

~Soph.

Note:Serif Photo Plus is the program I use and can be downloaded at www.serif.com (http://www.serif.com/) ^_^, if anyone is interested.

Now, some time ago somebody asked me how I did another effect in my pics, so while im on a roll here I will create a guide for it also. If you go back a bit you will find a pic with a winged girl and an Arcanine, the wings drew a lot of attention.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v142/PokeSoph/Eg1.png

A lot of people wanted to know how I did it. Once again, time consuming, but worth the effort. I will now explain yet another very simple (but slow X_X) process of getting the cool effects.

Right, I actually did most of it on paint! I really like paint; I do most of my drawings on there and colour them on PhotoPlus. Anyway, I started with PhotoPlus to get the colour. For this demo I wont use the original pic because I dont have an uncoloured version saved. Ill use a simple, boring XD, heart shape I scribbled on paint just for the guide.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v142/PokeSoph/Eg2.png

Now, on another program which has effects you can use, just open a small canvas to draw on. Choose a range of pale colours (you can use whatever is appropriate for your pic but im saying pale colours because that is for my example!) now. Same as the other guide; simply draw splodges or swirls or whatever of that colour onto your canvas.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v142/PokeSoph/Eg3.png

Now, I use the Guassian Blur option in my program to meld the colours, but if you dont have such an option, you can use the smudge tool or something else. Here is how it works on my program (like I said, this stuff varies, so youll have to adapt -_-)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v142/PokeSoph/Eg4.png http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v142/PokeSoph/Eg5.png

Now isnt that pretty? :P. next you copy that, and paste it into paint. Make your paint window bigger than the pic (the little patch of colour I mean, not the pic your going to use it on.)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v142/PokeSoph/Eg6.png

Important! MAKE SURE that the Draw Opaque option is DE-SELECTED like in the example! Or this will not work!

Now, erase around your little square of colour until you have a small circle or oval of your fave part.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v142/PokeSoph/Eg7.png

Now, its easy. Copy the little oval but outlining it with the Free Form Select tool (the star in the upper left corner) and pasting it repeatedly on the page. If draw opaque is de-selected you should be able to paste them all together so they look kind of like scales.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v142/PokeSoph/Eg8.png

Paste them a LOT of times until you have a large area of pretty colours :D. if you like, you can then take the file over to another program and use the Smudge to smooth out the lines between each colour-shape-thingy.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v142/PokeSoph/Eg9.png

Now, you have what ya need! Paste the colours onto paint and then get your pic. Now, once again ensure Draw Opaque is de-selected. Paste your pic, and lo and behold, it appears above the colour.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v142/PokeSoph/Eg10.png

(No, its not perfectim meant to be doing homework!)

Now, the dull part X_X. get your eraser, and erase all the colour outside the pic, leaving only the colour on the inside where you want it.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v142/PokeSoph/Eg11.png

I havent done it properly, no, but you get the idea. Important! Pay attention! :P. now, you cant use the whacking great eraser when you get close to the lines of your pic. I have discovered one lovely little thing about paint. We all know if you do the regular left-click while using the paintbrush, it will draw a pixel. Well, on our dear Paint, use the RIGHT CLICK while using the paintbrush and it will act as a single-pixel eraser. Hold the mouse button down to use the paintbrush-right-click combo to erase those small pixels near the lines that the eraser would mess up.

And there you have it everyone, your guide. Bleah. And I better get this work done as its midnight and I have upcoming exams so im supposed to be getting lots of sleep X_X.

Note one thing. This technique can be used in a hundred other ways. For instance, if you drew a pic where some one is wearing jeans but you cant colour jeans to look like denim and want them realistic, all you have to do is get a pic of the material jeans are made of and put it on paint. You then paste your other pic on top of it and erase all the jeans pic behind it except for the jeans in your pic. This effectively puts actual jeans texture where you want it in the pic or whatever. It works for anything really, just paste your pic onto whatever you want too (with draw opaque de-selected!) and erase the bits you dont need. It may be slow and tedious but it looks real nice ^_^.

Whoever knew paint could do so much? Lol.

Hope these two guides were worth the 3-4 hours I spent on them! Darn screenshots.

That's very good tutorial Soph! Maybe you can submit it into the Tech Institute? I think I remember a function in my program that can do the same effect without having to switch over to MS Paint...I'll try it out sometime later.

well....anyway.....

I have a newie pic to postie! Whee!

This new one has not been coloured yet. When I first tried my Final Fantasy/Pokemon combination with the Arcanine pic it worked out way better than I thought so I decided to take it a little further and try a new one. This time I picked Mew (well if Andy can be a FF character in his Pokemon form why cant I? XD) I chose to base her (I should call her Mewna XD) on Yuna from FFX-2. Yuna is my fave female FF character (not that I played many of the games XD) and I think her X-2 costume is really cool (and a little weird. XD.) The pose should be familiar; I used an X-2 picture as a guide (the clothes are freaking hard to draw right >_>) (I havent even got X-2 yet only X.) XD. Any way here is the pic (I will post a color version when I have done it.)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v142/PokeSoph/Mewna.png

There we go, my new piccy! Its difficult to decide which features to change to humanoid and which features to keep Pokemon. The head is Pokemon of course (duh XD) I also kept her tail, in place of that long hair thingy or whatever it is Yuna has. The feet are those of mew (somewhat long XD) and I gave her different shoes (the boots just didn't look right XD.) other than that I think Mewna is kinda humanoid. Had to give her longer arms than Mew the Pokemon. I think the toughest bit about doing these pics is deciding how to make my characters both Pokemon and humanoid, without changing the original Pokemon too much. I have to change the features a fair bit.

When I colour it, if anyone is curious, well I plan to use the method in Guide no.1 that I posted for her skirt (well, half skirt XD) and her fur. Same method I used on Arcy/Andys fur and his Brotherhood.

Now finally, very important notice! This is for everyone reading this post that knows me and knows Andy. I know that Andy/Arcy was based on Tidus and Mewna on Yuna, but there is no connection whatsoever between my pics and the fact that their base characters are in love on the games. NOBODY is to assume that my drawing myself as an FF character based on Yuna and Andy as one based on Tidus means we are in love because we are NOT! Im not even alluding to that! We are Just. Very. Good. Friends! I dont care if those two are in love on X and X-2, there is no connection with that fact and the pics I have done! YOU ALL GET IT? I just have to specify that because I know there is an old Andy-and-Soph rumour floating around and I dont want anyone making assumptions like that over what I drew. Even my old Arcy and mew pics never meant Andy and I were in love. We are close friends and we do care about each other, but I should have specified before that it isnt love. Just good, strong and loyal friendship. I picked Tidus to base Andy/Arcy on because I like Tidus and he is my fave FF character, and I picked Yuna to base my FF self on because I like her character and I also like her clothes (well apart from a few aspects...I would never, ever wear an outfit like that IRL O_O XD). These are my special characters, and the only real similarity between them and the FF characters they is based on is the clothes. Realistically, to achieve a pic that balances between FF and Pokemon, the only way to identify it as a final fantasy character pic is to have the clothes or some other feature of a well-known FF character. So I would just like to stress here that there is no hidden message of love or something in these pics *rolls eyes* they are just done for the personal enjoyment of making Pokemon into FF characters, based on my friend (and maybe other friends too, soon!) and myself. (Well the original Arcy/Andy/FF pic was done as a gift for Andy but I had a great time drawing it.) Anyway, my point: Andy and Soph: not in love! End of story! Period! The rumour is not true! WROAAAH!

Ahem. Hope you all like the pic, anyway. XD.

Thank you ^_^. You know I dont know if its so much an improvment as it is me just finding a style of art im really comfortable with. I wasnt sure how it would go, making pokemon humanoid and stuff, but its something I can do with more ease than the pics I used to do, though it takes longer. I love it. And yes that will be the next one I do probably, or one coming soon, those two fighting side by side...I already been planning that pic ;).

You are really good at drawing Pokemon with clothes on XDYes, Yuna has two-cloured eyes. Thats why I drew it, though it took a while and she STILL looks slightly cross eyed >_> two color eyes are hard!!

Its odd really, never thought I would be drawing them with clothes on XD. Its fun though, but hard at times because I have to also change their bodies, like mew's arms made longer and stuff.
Thanks for everyone who gave feedback ^_^ *dances*

Notice!!!

This is something for all visitors/posters in my thread to read. I always
feel a need to inform the people who so kindly give me feedback on my art of
occurrences that will affect my pic posting.
I am currently in the final week of my school life. This week, I have
several exams and several major and very difficult assignments to complete.
All of them must be in by Friday this week or I don't graduate. If I don't
graduate, I must repeat grade 12, you get the picture, right? It's really
tough and very stressful.

Therefore, my work on pics and my posting of pics is officially on hold for
a week or two. This week I am completely overwhelmed with assignments and
have NO TIME WHATSOEVER for pics in any way, shape or form. Next week, I
have to come back for one more exam and also for Graduation, so that makes
it two weeks until I leave school totally but officially, this is my last
week. So this week there will be no pics. None. Nil. Sorry -_-. I have a
some partially-done pics on my computer and believe me; I HATE putting them
on hold, once I start a pic I always want to finish it ASAP, but my current
works have to stay unopened on the computer until I am through all my work.
On a lighter note, I have several more guides planned that I will be making
and posting one by one once school is done and over with. I will be creating
guides on how to do some more effects that I use, for instance making
realistic Flames in a picture. Also, if any of you are interested, I'll do
up a few guides on how I did some of my own personal work, IE the process I
used to create Mewna, the pics I used to guide me, etc, etc. But I will only
do those ones if people are actually interested in reading them, so if
anyone here would like to see guides/whatever they should be called on how I
created some of my own personal work, either PM me or post that yes, you
want to see them, and if I get one or more requests to see them I will
definitely do them. I just don't want to bore anyone, you know? And it would
feel like bragging if I did it without anyone wanting to see them. So speak
up if you want them made and posted!

Just remember, I wont be posting pics, guides, whatever for about a week or
two. Once that is up though, I'm on holiday (aside from job-searching) and
will have a lot more time to work on pictures and guides.
Finally, if anyone has any ideas for Final Fantasy/Pokemon crossover pics I
can do, please post them. I will hint on my current project; I'm doing my
version of Chocobo's: A Dodrio in FF armour (I will design it)! With one of
my FF/Pokemon characters riding it. That should be the next pic you expect,
as well as one of Mewna and Andy fighting side by side, though I warn you
that one is going to take me a very long time, its tough! Any ideas that any
of you have are more than welcome. I file ideas to work on later so I love
inspiration if you can give it. And, if there is anything any of you would
like to see, for instance the original pics I started doing from the art
thread that was once on the Old PC, or any particular guide you want me to
make, let me know, PM or post, okay? I will note it down and file it with my
ideas and stuff and do it when I can. Thanks to those of you who took the
time to read this and anyone who replies!

~Soph.

[Note: does anyone here think I should start taking requests for pics or
something?]

I think people would find a guide on realistic flames/special effects really useful, Soph! :) That's something people can use in a lot of different pictures. ^_^ If you love doing requests, I say go for it! The only thing you have to make sure of is that you have enough time on your hands to do them - I often run into that problem after a while. >_<

Okay I have not posted a guide in a while, or any pics for that matter. The reason for this is that I have been working on something pretty big; which is this guide I am about to post. I mentioned I might post a guide on the process I use to do my pics. This is it. Keep in mind that it varies depending on what pic I draw; I follow a different process sometimes. For instance, sometimes I will draw the picture in a notebook first and then do a computer version using the handwork as a guide. Other times I will draw the image on paint from scratch. Other times still I will find a picture online and use it as a guideline for the image I am drawing.

Anyway, this guide will follow one of the processes I use in creating a pic. Since a few people wanted to see a pic of Andy and Mewna fighting side by side I decided to put the Dodrio/Chocobo picture on hold and create the Mewna and Andy picture, and do the guide as I go. Its been slower than usual because pics are always slow and hard to do, so creating a guide and screenshots simultaneously takes even longer. Anyway, after much work, here is the guide. Ill do others if people like this one.

Design Process.

For this one I knew I was going to have to put my characters in poses that are different to the standard ones I use; i.e. standing holding weapon or standing with hands on hips or whatever. For the original designs of Andy and Mewna I used existing and actual Final Fantasy pictures as guides; Ill post the two I used to show what I mean.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v142/PokeSoph/tidus.jpgThis is the one I used as a guide for FF Andy; see the similarities in pose and so on?

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v142/PokeSoph/Yuna.pngAnd its obvious I used the pose and so on in this one for my Mewna pic.

Those two images made life easier when designing Andy and Mewna. However for this pic those poses wouldnt suffice and I couldnt find pics of Tidus or Yuna to use as guides this time. Because I had no existing guide pic to follow I used a pen and some lined paper (from my school file, heheh) to sketch the poses I wanted my characters in. youll note that these are VERY messy and clumsy, they were purely to determine how I would try to draw Andy and Mewna standing, or else I would have given up in frustration trying to do it on paint. I scanned the two sketches for the guide.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v142/PokeSoph/Scan1.pngI wanted Mewna standing more catlike, I wanted more of a crouching pose than I drew here, and needed her balancing on the tips of hertoes? But her feet are real long and in the end I just drew it how it was easiest. At this point I wasnt sure if I would change aspects of her pose when I started drawing on paint.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v142/PokeSoph/Scan2.pngThis one took forever >_< I must have used about 4 pages before I even got this mess. I wanted him standing how Tidus does in FFX when he is waiting for his turn in battle. In the end I looked in the instruction book where there was a screenshot but it was of Tidus in his battle pose all right but naturally it had to be facing his back not his front >_<. After fiddling around for ages trying to get it right I finally got it, extremely messy. The shading in pencil is the bits of the mess I wanted to use in the final image.

Next step, onto paint! Note, you might get a shock but this is how my pics always start of looking! I let them be totally messy, and once I get the basic outlines right I start from a set point and bit by bit clean the pic up and add the detail. Its much easier than trying to do it all neat from the start.

This part was seriously annoying. I HATE trying to get people or Pokemon to be standing right, this took ages because I swear, every time I tried to get Andys pose right he looked like he was dancing or something, bah! It took ages but eventually I got the legs and pose more or less right, and then tried to see what he would look like holding the sword. I am too lazy to redraw that Brotherhood as it is hard to draw, so instead I copied my original drawing and simply cut the Brotherhood out. I moved it onto my lousy, rotten, messy initial pic to see if it would look right, and the sword made him finally look like he was in fighting stance! I moved it off again until I had finished the pic, but in any case here is the beginnings of my pic!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v142/PokeSoph/Screenshot1.png

This next one is after I have been cleaning up the pic a bit. For now Im only working on Andy; once he is done I will do Mewna separately and then put the two together once they are both complete. Working on two at once gets too confusing and the two images get in the way of one another when Im moving them around and so on. Anyway, the second screenshot simply shows the pic taking shape a bit more; his clothes are better defined and there are less choppy lines all over the place. I had been working for the better part of an hour to get to this point.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v142/PokeSoph/Screenshot2.png

Now, this next shot shows more detail again. I have cleaned up the pic far more now and all its really missing (aside from the color) is the detail on some of the clothing. As well as this, youll notice the lines of the pic are still rough and some are thicker than others.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v142/PokeSoph/Screenshot3.png

Here Ill show what I do when Im smoothing the lines of my pics to make them look neater and smoother. Its real, real, real slow but hey, so is everything else I do with my pics! I do it all the hard way. Anyway, Ill go onto the line-smoothing technique for a moment here before continuing with the main guide.

Line Smoothing

Okay its very easy, despite being slow. And I doubt Im the only one who does it, Im sure a lot of other people do this too. Anyway, in one of my guides I mentioned that if you use the right button of your mouse instead of the left in Paint it will erase lines rather than drawing them; simply doing the reverse operation to the other side. You can also assign a second color to the right mouse button and draw in a different color if you hold it down, but having it assigned to white does a lovely eraser job and is most useful. Anyway, explanations over, time for the screenshots:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v142/PokeSoph/Screenshot4-1.png if you have a look you can see how untidy the lines are now that I have zoomed in quite close. I now use the right button of my mouse and hold it down (using the Pencil tool) over the extra little black pixels to smooth the lines. This deletes all the extra pixels. Its very difficult to explain, but hopefully the next screenshot will show clearly what I did. Its the same as erasing all the little extra black squares that make up the lines. (There, thats a bit more understandable.)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v142/PokeSoph/Screenshot4-2.pngUnderstand? Thats what I do over the whole pic to clean up the rough lines. And if you take a look at the following two screenshots, youll see that such a small thing makes a major difference in how neat your pic looks; take a peek and see

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v142/PokeSoph/Screenshot4-3.png http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v142/PokeSoph/Screenshot4-4.png

See? And when you do it to the whole pic it actually looks WAY better once its done. It really makes a huge difference!

Now, back to the main guide. End of line smoothing tutorial.

Now, after some line smoothing and some extra detail is added, also an edit of Andys right arm which was somewhat too long, we have the following result

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v142/PokeSoph/Screenshot5.png

Now, onto Mewna. I'm not going to be as in-depth here as I already showed the process I use, Ill just take shots and comment briefly on them. This first one shows Im too lazy to redraw Menas head, at least for now. It nearly drove me crazy when I did my first Mewna pic so for now Im just copying the original head. I may change her expression later, depending on how I feel about the pic.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v142/PokeSoph/Screen1.bmpHer right leg took me eternity to get right >_> darn that was hard. I had nothing to guide me so I swear I almost went crazy with frustration on that bit, other than that the pic is still very rough and clumsy.

Next shot

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v142/PokeSoph/Screen2.bmpYeah, getting a little more detailed now. The skirtor half skirt, whateverneeds to be better done, editing due on that. The rest of her is more or less as I want it, I thinkI de-colored the head to make it fit better into the pic for now. Hmmstill needs line smoothing and a bit more attention to detail. This pose is very tough to do*moans* Im getting a headache

After this point I stopped taking shots purely because it was not really important, you all saw how I developed the Andy pic and I followed the same process for Mewna. In a quick rundown, after I got her clothes and so on worked out and got her looking right I did the usual line-smoothing then had to think up a weapon for her. I ended up giving her Yunas staff from FFX, yes; I drew it myself using a picture Andy found for me as a guide.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v142/PokeSoph/YunaandStaff.bmp

Once I was done I moved the Andy and Mewna pics together onto the same page. The pic I am about to show is more or less the finished product, before color, however I have not yet gotten around to giving Mewna her shoes or her armbands, I forgot before and now I keep on forgetting. I WILL add them once the color version is complete. Oh, and I colored Mewnas staff so that the pic was balanced since Andys weapon is in color also. So here we have the black and white version, with color weapons.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v142/PokeSoph/AndyMewna1.png

End part one of the guide!!! Part two is going to take far longer to complete, as the colouring process is going to be tedious and really annoying. It may take a week or more for me to make the second part of the guide, sorry about that but this part alone took 3-4 days to complete. Hope you all like it and dont get totally bored of it. Anyways, school is now over for me and graduation complete, so I can at least spend more time on pics! Yay!

Okay I would like to apologise to you all for the awful lack of artwork since I left school. I know I said I would do more when school was over and im really sorry I let you all down. I have been away a LOT and that has made it tough but there is a bigger reason. When I finished school my mom made me move my personal computer into the main room. My parents hate the Internet and are all into the whole 'dangers of the internet' thing. When I was at school I had to have it in my room because I was often up past midnight working, but after my studies were over mom insisted that it be moved from my room. Now, I cannot work on my pics the way I used too. I hate being stuck in the kitchen with all my family around, and I can't stand working with my parents or siblings watching. That's why the pics stopped coming, so im sorry. It's been too hard; I lost most of my enjoyment and creativity when I wasn't able to work in the privacy and comfort of my room. I used to be able to draw in a classroom at school, but in the home I just can't do it. My pics are personal and I only put them up on line because you guys appreciate them. My siblings just mock them, and my parents tell me off for 'wasting time'. Also, I get kicked off the computer if im on too long and that drives me nuts when im halfway through a pic and have to stop and pick up again later. It's hard to get back into it then. So im very sorry, that's why my art stopped coming.

However, there is an up-side to all this. I am currently working towards getting a Laptop computer so that I can do offline work in my room and just shift the laptop into the main room to go online. That would make things far easier and I will start working on art again when I get the laptop. So far, it probably won't be happening until after March this year, but im doing my best. Laptops are hella expensive. And I do promise this: once I start posting pics again it will be worth the wait. I will do my best to raise my standard and give you all something worth looking at. Mewna and Andy are my best work so far, and I have started writing a Fan Fiction with them in it. I have created some more characters for the fic but have only written them so far, not drawn them. These will be human. Drawing humans is a huge challenge for me; I find it exceedingly difficult to do. However, one of my teachers from last year gave me a booklet on drawing Manga characters so I will use the guides to help me. I will also front up part two of my huge guide, when I can get back to working on it again.
Finally, I am looking for an art-partner to help me with some of my work. I need some one capable of using my Mewna and Andy characters and being able to do something I cannot: drawing their faces from different angles and with different expressions. This task is totally beyond me as yet and frustrates me to tears; I need help. I don't need or really want color; black and white sketchy pics are fine. I wont be using them in my work, please note that I will simply use them as guides and examples when doing my own work. But I do need them badly. My first choice would be Forest Grovyle if she is able to do that, but I don't know if she would be willing to do it or not. If any of you would like to help me, please either PM me or draw an example of the kind of thing I want and post it here. My work and characters ARE copyright to me but I make an exception here. Just do not claim the character design as your owneven I can't fully do that since Nintendo and Square own the characters I took mine from. In any case, please help if you can and let me know if you will help me out. I will give more specific instructions privately to whoever I end up having as my art-partnerthat's if anyone is willing to do it, I mean.

For all of you who view my art and comment and come back to the thread to look, thanks so much, once again thank you deeply for the encouragement and support. I really appreciate it.

Awww Soph! It's a shame you are in an uncomfortable situation right now =/
I just hope you can get the laptop as soon as possible ^-^

Meanwhile you can still start drawing some quick sketchy pictures, just to keep the hang of it.
I hope your parents understand your passion of drawing and stop considering it as a waste of time =/

I advise you to go out sometimes and find your own private inspiration somewhere quiet, like a park, garden etc. That way you're not supervised and you could feel at least better ^^
You know, just making pictures like that Evil Arcanine up there xD It's really cool :)

Anyway, just keep up the good job and never give up Soph... ^_^

Well, since I havent been delivering many new pics lately I thought I might do something different, and, for a change, show you all some old pics. As in, art from when I first started drawing for PC. I cant find the very first Pokmon pics I drew, (they stank anyway XD) but I did find the ones from the first art thread I started (it was on the Old PC.)

These pics are pretty lousy; please remember that they were done before I had developed any real skill in drawing. I have improved a hundred times since then, but anywayhere are some of the pics I originally did

And for all of you who think you cant draw and who think your work is no good, just take these as an example and look at what I can do NOW. Its trueif you practice, you get there in the end. Im not saying Im an expert (no way am I an expert artist) but I have improved from what im about to show youso anyone who thinks they couldnt ever be good at artwell, just look at these. A starting point, from which I improved.

As can anyone.

Now, this first one is the first one I posted on PC. I actually had a colour version, I scanned it then coloured it on the computer, but I deleted that long ago. The colourless one is below, along with a version done much later and coloured by hand and scanned. They both stink :cheeky:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v142/PokeSoph/1Arcanine.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v142/PokeSoph/2Arcanine.jpg
Next we have several Arcanine pics I did over time. If you look at these then skip back to the ones I have posted in my thread so far youll see my Arcanine-drawing-style has changed somewhat from when I started. But as is obvious, it was Andy who inspired all of my earlier arthe continues to be behind most of my current art, too, in some way, shape or form. I wouldnt be where I am if it wasnt for him. Here are some of my earlierterrible XDArcanine pics.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v142/PokeSoph/5Arcanine.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v142/PokeSoph/6Arcanine.jpg
Okay thats all with Arcanine for now. The next two were requests from an online friend, from the old PC. He asked for a pic for him and his pair. Originally he wanted one with Pichu. Later he asked for one with Numel. (His pair was the Dragonite) These two pics were quite far apart; I guess that next to each other they showed I was improving slightly at the time. Here they are:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v142/PokeSoph/7Dragonite.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v142/PokeSoph/8Dragonite.jpg
The next two Ill lump together, large pics, so sorry for those of you with rotten Internet speeds since theyll take forever to load. The first is awfulI was trying to draw Charizard in flight but its pretty miserable XD. The other is Scyther and Kabutops fightingbleh, it stinkies. Here:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v142/PokeSoph/9Charizard.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v142/PokeSoph/a10Scyther.jpg
I never did do a Zapdos to go with the next two. I liked trying to draw the legendary birds, and I like action picsunfortunately, im not so hot at them, so they dont looks exactly impressive. Oh well. XD. BeholdMoltres, Articuno.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v142/PokeSoph/a11Moltres.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v142/PokeSoph/a12Articuno.jpg
The last three are kind of funny XD. I also happen to love Star Wars, and I came up with the weird idea of drawing Jedi Pokmon. My FF Pokmon are better, but these three Jedi Pokmon are quite cute. We have Evil Meowth, Darth Gengar (XD) and just a Master-Padawan pic of Marill and Mew. Funny. XD.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v142/PokeSoph/a13Meowth.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v142/PokeSoph/a14Gengar.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v142/PokeSoph/a15Marill.jpg

Thats all of the old ones. That was what my old art thread on the Old PC contained. Not very good, meh. But drawing back then aided me in drawing pics now. Now youve all seen my old, lousy art. *Shrugs* I just thought some of you might find it interesting, thats all. And maybe one or two of you who actually admire my art (new arts, not old ones) will find it encouraging to see how much art can improve with time and practice. ^_^.

Okay yesterday on MSN some one complained to me that they didn't know how to edit sprites. I told her I would make her a guide, and for the heck of it I will post that guide here. I assume that a lot of you know how to do all this anyway, but I was really grateful to a friend who taught me, long ago, so maybe this will be of use to some of you. I added screenshots and an example of one of my sprites, too ^_^. Hope its all of some use :D.

The process is pretty simple and the following is a guide of how to do it. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v142/PokeSoph/SPRITE.bmp

The first step is to choose the pics you want to use. Choose ones that can have parts of them taken off to create one like the example at the top; otherwise it will be too difficult to create a realistic sprite. One of your pics will be your Base Pokmon, which will be the one you add things too from the others. In this case, my base Pokmon was the Arcanine.
Your next step is to choose the parts of your other sprites that you want to put onto your base Pokmon. To move the parts onto the base Pokmon, you use the Free Form Select tool, which looks like a star and is at the top left hand corner of your toolbar: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v142/PokeSoph/FreeFormSelect.bmp
REMEMBER: BEFORE YOU CAN USE THE FREE FORM SELECT PROPERLY, YOU MUST TURN OFF DRAW OPAQUE IN THE IMAGE MENU. IF IT HAS A TICK NEXT TO IT, CLICK ON IT TO DE-TICK IT AND TURN IT OFF. THIS IS VITAL, OR MOVING PARTS OF THE SPRITE WITH FREE FORM SELECT WILL NOT WORK! I will provide two screenshots to show what to do: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v142/PokeSoph/DO1.png http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v142/PokeSoph/DO2.png
One you have your free form select tool ready, use it to select the part of one of the Pokmon you want to move to your Base Pokmon, for example the Ho-Oh wings I selected to move onto the back of the Arcanine. Just draw around the part you want with the Free Form Select tool and drag it off the Pokmon it belongs to so you can move it to your Base Pokmon. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v142/PokeSoph/Step1.bmp http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v142/PokeSoph/Step2.bmp
Erase the Pokmon, which you took the part off and move the part to your base Pokmon. Remember to save often because MS paint does not allow you to undo any more than your 4 previous mistakes, so if you mess it up too much you'll have to start over. Now you have your first part added to your base Pokmon you can start on the next bit, for example my first part to the Arcanine was the wings, then I moved on to doing the legs.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v142/PokeSoph/Step3.bmp http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v142/PokeSoph/Step4.bmp

I have only provided a visual guide for part of the sprite I did, but what I have showed is the basic process you need to follow to make the sprites.

There. Easy, no? ^_^. Anyone who actually makes use of this tutorial, have fun :P.

My newest piccy ^_^.

That is actually an illustration to be part of my fan-fic when I get up to that part.

Just a point, I did do another version of that picture and though I wont post it here I need to make a point, in the image Mewna has twisted her upper body around, which is why it looks a bit wrong in this pic. In the Original, you could see the line of her backbone which was a clear indication that she had twisted her upper body around to the right while keeping her lower body in the same place. Unfortunately when I did this version her shirt covered her backbone and it looks kind of odd. If you think of it as her having twisted her body around its easier to see what I intended to do. If I knew how to draw the wrinkles in clothing it would look much better -_-
