Yeah, m'@# messes up your pc(sometimes) and your Hall of fame(all the time) while Missingno only messes up your Hall of Fame.

i caught missingno. in my blue and then i saved the game. i fought the elite four and the sprites messed up. i get scarred and turned off the game. how can i get the sprites to look normal again?

You can't unless you start a new game. I did the same thing once, and I thought releasing it would fix it, but it didn't. I don't know of any other way to do it besides erasing the file.

i don't know if you already know this but i was kinda suprised when i read this on wikipedia
In the advanced generation of Pokémon games, there are several methods of getting Shiny Pokémon other than the dismal chance normally presented. The most obvious one is to catch the Red Gyarados that appears in the Lake of Rage.
Another, more complex trick involves trading the Red Gyarados to a Red or Blue version, teaching it the Mimic TM, and trading it back. Then, using the move deleter in Blackthorn City, the player deletes all the moves except Mimic. Then, the Gyarados is traded back to the Red or Blue version and battles a Ditto. Battling the Ditto, the Gyarados uses Mimic after Ditto uses Transform. Gyarados can then use Transform. It then transforms into Ditto, after which Ditto transforms into the transformed Gyarados. After that, the player catches the Ditto, which will be shiny when traded to Gold, Silver, or Crystal.
Another, even more complex trick involves restarting the game; it does not always work, so it is dangerous to do. The player takes the name ??w?x?y (case sensitive), then uses a combination of the Missingno. trick and the aforementioned Shiny Ditto trick. Before doing this, the player must look at a Pokédex entry for Ditto. Once this is done, the Shiny Ditto trick can be used on a level 230 Missingno., which will only know Transform. The Missingno. must be level 230 for this to work. When the Missingno. is caught, it will have the DVs of a shiny pokemon. When traded to a Gold or Silver version, if the game allows it (sometimes it may say the Missigno. is unusual and cannot be traded) it will be a Shiny Pokémon. If the "ghost" form of Missingno. is traded properly, it becomes a Shiny Lugia.

Actually and I have done alot of research on this missingno is a glitch pokemon a combonation of a bunch of gold and silver pokemon because originally they were supposed to have up to the 250 pokemon but couldnt fit the amount of time and bites to the game and now I know this may sound stupid and unbelieveable but it is true.

Wikipedia say that the game moves your character info in with wild pokemon. I don't buy this.
If you do heaps of experimenting, the Old Man is actually a Pokemon. Also if you mod Pokemon Yellow so cinnibar island doesn't contain any pokemon and that you can fly at the begginning of the game then listen up.
In pallet town, walk to the grass so oak stops you and battles Pikachu, if you modded oak to release you straight away then fly to cinnibar island and start surfing (mod needed).
As you will see, MissingNO. does not appear, thus prooving Wikipedia wrong (WOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!).

you clearly don't understand this at all. here's how it really works:
the strip of shoreline on cinnabar is a glitch, as is the less popular strip of shoreline on seafoam islands. they programmed it to allow pokemon to attack you, but they didn't program what pokemon could attack. this means that if you go straight from one sight to there, your area will remain, allowing the same pokemon to attack (hence the safari zone pokemon). however, the old man has to reset all of the settings in the game character to allow him to be in your position, which they fixed in yellow to make it just like a video clip. they assumed this would be okay when they programmed it, because the glitch wouldn't take hold, since you would walk into a new area and the pokemon to run into would be reset. but when you go to cinnabar, it's not reset, allowing you to run into the glitch pokemon, and pokemon higher than lv. 100. got it? good.
now, as far as changing your name goes: yes, it affects the pokemon you run into. not in most of the game, but it does affect those glitches. it will affect the levels of missingno. and mblock, but those two always show up. it also affects the levels of the pokemon above lv. 100, and effects which pokemon there are to attack you. if you put the right letters in your name, you can run into almost any pokemon. my friend happened to get his to give him lv. 146 mewtwo, 128 missingno, and 140 golbat, whereas mine gave me lv. 145 snorlax, 183 bulbasaur, and 125 hypno, with a level 140 missingno. there are usually only two levels of missingno, the one you get through the characters in your name, and 0. go to any search engine, and you can typically find out how to calculate the pokemon you'll run into.

My mom gave me my first GB, she found it in a parking lot (LOL) and It had Pokemon Blue Version in it. I played it up to the end and began catching PokeMon.. Halfway through one of the buildings, (either Pokemon Mansion or the Power Plant, I think the first) I encountered a Muk-Like Pokemon. It was facing the opposite direction as a normal one and was called MissingNo! It knew all the attacks my Charizard knew. I tried to catch it, but I failed and it fainted from burn damage.

Q: What is Missingno.?
Q: How do I find it?
A: You don't know how to find it? Go play some more RBY. But, if you're one of the outcasts who doesn't know how to find it, here goes. Talk to the Old Man at the northern edge of Viridian, and let him catch a Weedle. Then, Fly to Cinnabar (you can also go to Fuchsia and Surf to Seafoam Islands, but that takes a lot longer) and Surf up and down the right edge. After a while, you'll run into some unnatural Pokemon at high levels, and Missingno. (or a Pokemon with a glitched name containing 'M in the middle). NOTE: THIS DOES NOT WORK IN YELLOW.
Oh, something else even most truly hardcore fans don't know. This also does NOT work in the Japanese version of Pokemon Green. No wild Pokemon appear on the Cinnabar edge, period. I haven't tested Red, Blue or Yellow however.

I don't remember. I either had a classmate tell me or show me how to do the Missingno trick when I first got the game or else I heard about it from a classmate and looked it up online. Either is likely.

~!~Miss Cow~!~No. Fossils are key items, meaning that they don't have a "x1" next to it. This means if you somehow get more than one, depositing the item in the PC will mean you have a slot in the PC holding a fossil and one in your bag holding a fossil. If you keep depositing items, your PC will fill up completely with fossils, and you'll basically have to revive 128 fossils to keep from totally filling up all item space you could possibly have.

They are mega-glitches like missingno, but much glitchier, more difficult to get (usually only via GS or AR), and can do a lot of severe damage to your game.

You can't get Mew by using the Missingno trick. You can only get Mew by using a GS/AR, going to a Nintendo event, or using the Mew glitch.

There's a complete Missingno FAQ at GameFAQs and TSRockin'not to mention the first post in this thread. Just check it out sometime.
For those who are too lazy to look...
Missingno was created as a placeholder for the empty slots of Pokemon. (There's supposedly 250 slots to fit data for Pokemon, but only 150 Pokemon in the game.) When the developers finished the game, the data for Missingno was accidentally left in the game.

My friend had his Gyarados eaten by an M', it somehow used absorb and abasorbed the whole thing. When I had a missingno, It worked wonderfully and didn't glitch my game at all, It did one hit KO's. The only problem was that it sometimes attcacked itself.
Oh, and also, does the mew glitch really work??? I saw a couple variations on youtube.

That's odd. Missingno and 'M don't know Absorb in the wild. Merely Water Gun, Water Gun, and Sky Attack. ._.
When I had a missingno, It worked wonderfully and didn't glitch my game at all,
It tends not to after a few minutes of having it. As in, normally, sprites end up being reversed on the battle screen right after you catch it, but if you let a few minutes pass, it'll be okay.
Oh, and also, does the mew glitch really work??? I saw a couple variations on youtube.
Short answer: If you mean the one where you have to battle the trainer with a Slowpoke, then yes. But that's neither here nor there in a topic concerning Missingno (although you could get Missingno from it too if you know who to battle).

Yes I found it odd too. He said it was awhile ago so maybe, oh well who knows, I'll ask him, maybe it just dissapeared in battle. He also said he was trying to catch a magmar around that time, and almost nothing worked, he used his master ball and failed, but then a pokeball caught it. Sorry for being off topic and thank you.

Ah, sorry about that. No offence meant :)
You can only get Missingno. in Yellow by using Method 3 of the Mew Glitch. I can't remember the value that needs to be used, something like 190. But it is VERY dangerous in yellow. Pikachu sprites and Player sprites randomly across the screen, and possible data corruption.

It's fun to play pretend and all, but how does that prove it's a Ho-Oh? There's no actual Ho-Oh picture. Just a blank screen doesn't prove anything.
For all we know, you could have just caught some off-end form of Missingno. or M, and just renamed it Ho-Oh. Or, that could also be a Photoshopped picture. It would be hard to do, but all entirily possible.
It's honestly very hard to believe that's a real Ho-Oh. You can't trade Ho-Oh from Gold/Silver/Crystal, because the receptionist at the Time Capsule won't let you through with any new Pokemon. And I really don't see any other way you could have gotten it.
Give me an actual definable Ho-Oh picture, then I'll believe you.
Note: I'm not trying to be mean here or anything, it's just hard to believe you would have a Pokemon in a game in which that particular Pokemon doesn't even exist in. Those pictures really don't prove much.
(besides, since when is Ho-Oh normal type, or can actually learn Cut?)

There are some D/P Missingno. D/P Box and Invisible shiny Bulbasaur for instance. But my favourite Missingno. that isn't actually Missingno. (if that makes sense) is ?, the one from the third gen that looks like pixellated question marks.

Ya, mines probably the actual missingno cuz I had one and It was amazing. It one hit k-od like everything it didn't glitch up my game, and sometimes attacked itself.
abnd how are some missingno's moves like tm 21 and stuff, how does that work?

I've experimented a lot with Missingo (Caught tons, and released a lot.) One weird thing I've noticed is that if you leave it in the daycare, something weird might happen. This doesn't happen all the time, but this is what you do:
1. Leave Missingno at the day care with the day care man.
2. Right after that, talk to the man again. Notice that now he pauses for a little while before answering.
3.Sometimes he says the usual, "Back so soon, your pokemon needs to stay longer." But other times he will say something like, "Your Missingno has grown a lot! It has grown 245 lvls (or something like that). You owe me $9999 (or something like that) to get it back."
4. If you take Missingno back, it will be lvl 100. I don't think anything really happens except the daycare man pauses a little now.
Also, when I went to the Elite Four and beat it with Missingno in my party, it made my Missingno look like Eve, my flareon in the Hall of Fame.

If you name your character something so that w is the 3rd letter y is the 5th and x is the last, you can see Ghost missingno, Aerodactyl skeleton missingno, and Kabutops skeleton missingno.
Good names to do this with are Zowayix and Abwayax.

Hey, I have something to say. Is there any way to meet Missingo outside of the Mew glitch or next to Cinnibar? My cousin met Missingno at randome routes. Maybe he discovered a new glitch, or maybe that's the Korean version of the game, or maybe it's because he plays it on his computer.

I've heard that there was supposed to be a pokemon named Missingno but the programmers/desingers then quit making it.
And the missingo in the game is the leftovers..
Well that's what I've heard.

It probably wouldn't have been named Missingno, considering the fact that it's already been established that Missingno is just short for "missing number." As in, it's not supposed to be in the Pokedex.
Well, that and Missingno is just a placeholder for Pokemon data. As in, data that's already in the game.

Did you guys know that are 5 MissingNo types? (two of the are in the R/S version.)
Technically, the two in RS aren't Missingno. They're instead separate glitches called ? and ??????????. Neither have the same effects as Missingno, nor do they otherwise behave like Missingno (as in, you can't obtain it by undergoing similar steps, they don't duplicate items, et cetera).
Otherwise, yes, there are only three types of real Missingno: glitchy block, ghost, and skeleton. Anything else that isn't named Missingno simply isn't a Missingno.

hmmmm i remember misssingno if u catch one give it the nickname "pallet town" with out quotes i think that either prevents it from screwing up the game or it evolves it to a kaangashkan (i forget)
but i love missingno's move pool he doesnt learn anything but this is his movepool
water gun
water gun
sky attack
also if u never knew the area u catch missingno u can find pokemon on lvl 150 that can go above that by using rare candys not exp and depending on the letters of ur name u can get different pokemon (so its possible to get a lvl 150 mewtwo) im sure thew can google the list of letters and they'r pokemon.
anyways i hope this helps and i hope someone didn't already post all this (cuz i didnt bother reading it all)

Er.
So, I finally got a hold of Japanese Red version.
Um, I've been surfing the side of Cinnabar for a loooong time, but I still haven't encountered a Missingno.
If anyone knows why, please do tell.
I have found that, it might be that the Japanese version, you encounter "Ketsuban" differently than Missingno. On youtube, there are videos of a player getting Ketsuban.
Ketsuban's Wikipedia article: http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E3%81%91%E3%81%A4%E3%81%B0%E3%82%93

Just a theory (because I really have no proof of it), but do you think it may have something to do with the fact that you can't obtain Missingno the same way in an English version of Red/Blue or that Red/Blue is actually based on the engine of the Japanese Blue (http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Pokemon_Red), rather than of Red/Green?
For the former, my guess is based on the fact that during translation, if there's a known error in the game, the programming team might spend a bit more time working on the game before releasing the game to English audiences. (Or, alternatively, they'd simply rework the game so that points that can't work for English-speaking audiences are taken out.) This is why the glitches that were in the Japanese Gold/Silver didn't work in the English version of the same games and why Japanese Crystal had mobile capabilities while English Crystal did not. It could be plausible that during a making of Red/Blue (which was apparently already pretty heavily "reworked," what with the integration of Pokemon availability system of Red/Green being combined with the engine and graphics of Blue to produce the English version of the game), the programmers accidentally forged a new glitch simply by failing to remove the possibility of encountering Missingno but instead relocating it to a different portion of the map and possibly rewriting the sequence through which Missingno could be obtained.
For the latter, one would have to check Japanese Blue in order to find out the sequence of events needed to obtain Missingno, as if the English Red/Blue uses the game engine of the Japanese Blue, then that may be a horse of a different color in terms of glitches, in the way English Red/Blue has a fairly different set of glitches compared to English Yellow.
But again, both are pretty much just theories. I could be completely wrong on either or both, but it's a start for a train of thought. *shrug*

it all depends on what your name is. i think the 3rd, 5th and 7th letter counts in what pokemon you will find, which could be any type of Missingno. or could be a rare pokemon like Mewtwo.

Yay, I have caught many Missingnos in my time, and many M's... but how many of you have heard of a L:ST (LM4)? It's like the coolest 2x evolving non-pokemon ever~ ^^
And once I was messing around with the game and a Rocket trainer came up and battled me with 6 weird Japanese-named Pokemon... 0_-
If you want to know how you can see Rocket, just go into 'Pokemon Blue GBA' and type in Gameshark this code and the trainer will appear:

here are the most awesome things i have found about missingno.:
you can catch them at the highest level being known as NaN^NaN(not a number to the not a number power, or infinite times itself infinite times)(if you want to know how, i dont know how it happened either. the glitch pokemon had a glitch, the infinity glitch is the oldest form of pokerus, the current one being an exp booster. this old one spreads only to certain pokemon, but they dont get the infinity level, their exp gain or exp needed variable is messed up, so they get extremely powerful, extremely fast, and the level 100 limit is turned off, so you can go until 999. it remains even during battle, no matter what you do to raise the level) note: the infinity glitch is rare, can be found when you glitch a mew or glitch a missingno. it doesn't ever happen with the glitched M'. trust me, it cant even catch it.
you can find missingno. without a level( "L "). sometimes this triggers #3, and rarely, spreads the infinity glitch to legendaries and starters- just these, strangely enough.
when you catch a missingno. or glitched M' it may cause random nameless pokemon to appear in your boxes, sometimes creating a new box (box <glitched characters>) that cannot be renamed without freezing or glitching your screen. this makes it possible to get a mew through the missingno. glitch.
when #3 happens, the pokemon are sometimes miscolored, or will have a different OT or ID from yours. if it doesnt have an ID(it happened to me) you will always win the lotto drawing, or if the ID is glitched characters. this happens if the #3 pokemons ID variable was changed to the Lotto ticket program variables.
you might find a trainer that knows attacks, but its left shoe is always gone(i have no idea). you can only catch it with great balls. all others are blocked with the text that comes from trying to catch a trainers pokemon. if this happens, you can catch other trainers pokemon
if you get #5, then make it hold an item. from then on, all the missingno. and glitched M' pokemon will hold whatever item #5 is holding. if it is not holding an item, it picks up a random item when you talk to the old man(no potions though, meh. it also finds glitched items. these are rare candies that wont disapear when used, or TMs that teach a glitched move that turns the foes hp variable to zero automatically when it enters battle( only works on trainers) but this may mess up your game
this one doesnt always happen: if you find a level zero missingno., battle with it (wild or trainer, doesnt matter) its attack value goes up each turn, and it will gain 24Poke(cash) experience points, and you will get (total exp that should have been earned)exp poke. missingno. will grow to level <poke character>, and gain the move <blank space>(the same thing as hyper beam, except when used out of battle, it acts like fly. i dont know why.)and your cash will be 9999999, but will decrease only by one each time you buy something. if you catch a ratatata(spelling? havent played against a ratatata(?) in a long time) it will become level 46, and will need <pokecharacter> exp points to gain a level. buy 100 revives to level it up to level 52( it goes from 46 to 52 to glitched number) then buy 10 potions to get to gltched level. trust me, ive tried every option on this game, i know
if you have less than six pokemon in your party, and you catch missingno. it will stay in your party and you can battle with it. its sumary varies. the strangest i have found shows a charmander with glitched minimum hp, NaN^NaN for the max, and the poke character for all the stats. its ability was a glitch, with the description saying " <poke> charmander, xysd#% are g speed powfense synchrofire gra<glitched characters.............................> alsleine mew find SS Anne deck event <binary coding> <hex>12a166FF</hex> shiny,.,/ int fj;a,,,,,,, chartlesaur" apparently, it had leftover data packed into it. and the charmander pic had a squirtle shell and one of bulbasaurs feet. (I still have this one)
some pokemon caught in the glitch zone will later on turn into missingno. upon the change of certain variables
you can catch missingno. that have your name
a missingno. with a blank level can sometimes be traded to the metal generation games(gsc)
some missingno. can be transfered between your box and party when you do certain things
warning: slightly off topic fact ahead! if you know someone who can reprogram games( I do, hes a good friend, but his prices arent cheap) they can edit the missingno. variables, or make hacks for it that can be turned on and off. the most entertaining is actually sitting in the game programming, but it was never put into action. it is a lonely strip of code on mew and missingno. when my friend found it, he brought it up front to the active coding. the strip says that when you catch missingno. and have battled/caught mewtwo, mew can be found in any legendary pokemon's place(articuno, moltres, zapdos, mewtwo, and there may be more, i dont know what else he brought into active code.) the bigwigs at nintendo put this at the back so they could make mew an event pokemon. some japanese versions have an inactive strip on celebi. my hacking friend has american and japanese versions of every pokemon game. end off topic zone one. next zone starts here he also put a missingno. on my pokemon diamond game, same glitchy qualities. to replace the things you have to do, you had to talk to dawns father, then fly to twinleaf town and surf on the ponds edge there(the one thats facing away from the wall). the number of pokeballs you have equals the pokedex number(national) and the number of great balls equals the level. if you dont have any great balls, you get a level NaN^NaN pokemon, with the pokerus virus. the infinity virus will not spread from this one. if you dont have any pokeballs, you will catch missingno. if you have more than 493 then you will catch a level 1 suicune that knows transform and fly. it evolves into a missingno. named lucario at level 16, and it evolves into a inferrion(infernape-torterra-empoleon combination. the graffic shows all three side by side. you pick the attacks for each) that has infinity virus, pokerus, and a daycare anomalty at level 36. the viruses wil spread to the starters in your box if you have any. this only works with hacks, remember, only hacks the daycare anomalty: if left at the daycare, it will show you having a ditto and a dialga at the daycare on your poketech. it will always make eggs, no matter if you have one or two pokemon there. the eggs will hatch into either a chimtwiplup(chimchar-turtwig-piplup, which evolves into monfernplup( you should be able to guess by now), then inferrion, or it will hatch into one of the legendaries(event pokemon too)(these would be dialga, palkia, heatran, rotom, shaimin, arceus, darkrai, celebi, mew, mewtwo, groudon, kyalga, raquaza, deoxys, manaphy, pheon, gyrantina, articuno, moltres, zapdos, suicune, entei, raikou, ho-oh, lugia, jirachii, latias, latios, mesprit, azael, uzki(?)... tell me if i missed any...) or a combination of the legendaries, acording to games they appeared in, or what group they were in together in the games. see legendary grouping at the bottom
catching missingno.s repeatedly and getting certain levels and types of missingno. will unlock an unanounced unrevealed island, where you act as god to the data. this is the pokemon rby debug mode. welcome to heaven of pokemon. when on this island, you can change things using easy menus. this is only the basic debug mode, the ultimate is only unlockable through data downloaded via link cable. the data is only found at Nintendo HQ of japan, lost in the safe. just like NP's time machine fix kit (inside joke for NP subscribers). this data was given to some of the beta testers. the basic debug mode can not change things that would destroy the game, and you cannot see the actual code. you can change what pokemon you have, what pokedex entries you have, what items you have, what levels your pokemon are, your name, your pokemons colors, what moves your pokemon knows, and more. yes, you can teach hms to any pokemon, along with any other moves

warning: slightly off topic fact ahead! if you know someone who can reprogram games( I do, hes a good friend, but his prices arent cheap) they can edit the missingno. variables, or make hacks for it that can be turned on and off. the most entertaining is actually sitting in the game programming, but it was never put into action. it is a lonely strip of code on mew and missingno. when my friend found it, he brought it up front to the active coding. the strip says that when you catch missingno. and have battled/caught mewtwo, mew can be found in any legendary pokemon's place(articuno, moltres, zapdos, mewtwo, and there may be more, i dont know what else he brought into active code.) the bigwigs at nintendo put this at the back so they could make mew an event pokemon. some japanese versions have an inactive strip on celebi. my hacking friend has american and japanese versions of every pokemon game. end off topic zone one. next zone starts here he also put a missingno. on my pokemon diamond game, same glitchy qualities. to replace the things you have to do, you had to talk to dawns father, then fly to twinleaf town and surf on the ponds edge there(the one thats facing away from the wall). the number of pokeballs you have equals the pokedex number(national) and the number of great balls equals the level. if you dont have any great balls, you get a level NaN^NaN pokemon, with the pokerus virus. the infinity virus will not spread from this one. if you dont have any pokeballs, you will catch missingno. if you have more than 493 then you will catch a level 1 suicune that knows transform and fly. it evolves into a missingno. named lucario at level 16, and it evolves into a inferrion(infernape-torterra-empoleon combination. the graffic shows all three side by side. you pick the attacks for each) that has infinity virus, pokerus, and a daycare anomalty at level 36. the viruses wil spread to the starters in your box if you have any. this only works with hacks, remember, only hacks the daycare anomalty: if left at the daycare, it will show you having a ditto and a dialga at the daycare on your poketech. it will always make eggs, no matter if you have one or two pokemon there. the eggs will hatch into either a chimtwiplup(chimchar-turtwig-piplup, which evolves into monfernplup( you should be able to guess by now), then inferrion, or it will hatch into one of the legendaries(event pokemon too)(these would be dialga, palkia, heatran, rotom, shaimin, arceus, darkrai, celebi, mew, mewtwo, groudon, kyalga, raquaza, deoxys, manaphy, pheon, gyrantina, articuno, moltres, zapdos, suicune, entei, raikou, ho-oh, lugia, jirachii, latias, latios, mesprit, azael, uzki(?)... tell me if i missed any...) or a combination of the legendaries, acording to games they appeared in, or what group they were in together in the games. see legendary grouping at the bottom
catching missingno.s repeatedly and getting certain levels and types of missingno. will unlock an unanounced unrevealed island, where you act as god to the data. this is the pokemon rby debug mode. welcome to heaven of pokemon. when on this island, you can change things using easy menus. this is only the basic debug mode, the ultimate is only unlockable through data downloaded via link cable. the data is only found at Nintendo HQ of japan, lost in the safe. just like NP's time machine fix kit (inside joke for NP subscribers). this data was given to some of the beta testers. the basic debug mode can not change things that would destroy the game, and you cannot see the actual code. you can change what pokemon you have, what pokedex entries you have, what items you have, what levels your pokemon are, your name, your pokemons colors, what moves your pokemon knows, and more. yes, you can teach hms to any pokemon, along with any other moves

Yeah, I do have something to say.
you can catch them at the highest level being known as NaN^NaN(not a number to the not a number power, or infinite times itself infinite times)(if you want to know how, i dont know how it happened either. the glitch pokemon had a glitch, the infinity glitch is the oldest form of pokerus, the current one being an exp booster. this old one spreads only to certain pokemon, but they dont get the infinity level, their exp gain or exp needed variable is messed up, so they get extremely powerful, extremely fast, and the level 100 limit is turned off, so you can go until 999. it remains even during battle, no matter what you do to raise the level) note: the infinity glitch is rare, can be found when you glitch a mew or glitch a missingno. it doesn't ever happen with the glitched M'. trust me, it cant even catch it.
That's impossible, since the game can only count until 256 due to its programming. You can't find a 999th level.
you can find missingno. without a level( "L "). sometimes this triggers #3, and rarely, spreads the infinity glitch to legendaries and starters- just these, strangely enough.
A pokémon can't be without level, once again, due to the game's own programming.
when you catch a missingno. or glitched M' it may cause random nameless pokemon to appear in your boxes, sometimes creating a new box (box <glitched characters>) that cannot be renamed without freezing or glitching your screen. this makes it possible to get a mew through the missingno. glitch.
There is no proof after years of experiments with it. In fact, this is the first notice I have. Screenshots, please.
when #3 happens, the pokemon are sometimes miscolored, or will have a different OT or ID from yours. if it doesnt have an ID(it happened to me) you will always win the lotto drawing, or if the ID is glitched characters. this happens if the #3 pokemons ID variable was changed to the Lotto ticket program variables.
Lotto? Are you talking about the missingno-less (unless gamesharked) G/S/C/R/S/E?
you might find a trainer that knows attacks, but its left shoe is always gone(i have no idea). you can only catch it with great balls. all others are blocked with the text that comes from trying to catch a trainers pokemon. if this happens, you can catch other trainers pokemon
XDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD
if you get #5, then make it hold an item. from then on, all the missingno. and glitched M' pokemon will hold whatever item #5 is holding. if it is not holding an item, it picks up a random item when you talk to the old man(no potions though, meh. it also finds glitched items. these are rare candies that wont disapear when used, or TMs that teach a glitched move that turns the foes hp variable to zero automatically when it enters battle( only works on trainers) but this may mess up your game
Again: Holding an item? Then it's not first gen, then it's not missingno.
this one doesnt always happen: if you find a level zero missingno., battle with it (wild or trainer, doesnt matter) its attack value goes up each turn, and it will gain 24Poke(cash) experience points, and you will get (total exp that should have been earned)exp poke. missingno. will grow to level <poke character>, and gain the move <blank space>(the same thing as hyper beam, except when used out of battle, it acts like fly. i dont know why.)and your cash will be 9999999, but will decrease only by one each time you buy something. if you catch a ratatata(spelling? havent played against a ratatata(?) in a long time) it will become level 46, and will need <pokecharacter> exp points to gain a level. buy 100 revives to level it up to level 52( it goes from 46 to 52 to glitched number) then buy 10 potions to get to gltched level. trust me, ive tried every option on this game, i know
Wow, 9.999.999 bucks. I thought you only could have 999.999. Well, after seeing "ratatata" (XD), I can understand you simply put an extra 9. But the rest of the story sounds really funny. 100 revives to get "glitched number"? Programming says otherwise.
if you have less than six pokemon in your party, and you catch missingno. it will stay in your party and you can battle with it. its sumary varies. the strangest i have found shows a charmander with glitched minimum hp, NaN^NaN for the max, and the poke character for all the stats. its ability was a glitch, with the description saying " <poke> charmander, xysd#% are g speed powfense synchrofire gra<glitched characters.............................> alsleine mew find SS Anne deck event <binary coding> <hex>12a166FF</hex> shiny,.,/ int fj;a,,,,,,, chartlesaur" apparently, it had leftover data packed into it. and the charmander pic had a squirtle shell and one of bulbasaurs feet. (I still have this one)
The stats data sounds like the one a big uberglitch would have, not the one the good old Missingno would. But the charmander with bulbasaur's feet? That blows up all the story, since it's impossible to mix correct sprites. the biggest glitch in a sprite you will get is it backwarded or simply a lot of glitchy lines, not a mixture of sprites.
some pokemon caught in the glitch zone will later on turn into missingno. upon the change of certain variables
Glitch zone? O_O
you can catch missingno. that have your name
If you nickname it, of course. If not, it will be kept as Missingno.
a missingno. with a blank level can sometimes be traded to the metal generation games(gsc)
Impossible since the metal gens detect all glitches and nullify them. Always.
some missingno. can be transfered between your box and party when you do certain things
True, things like withdrawing it from the box. Duuuuuuuh ¬_¬
warning: slightly off topic fact ahead! if you know someone who can reprogram games( I do, hes a good friend, but his prices arent cheap) they can edit the missingno. variables, or make hacks for it that can be turned on and off. the most entertaining is actually sitting in the game programming, but it was never put into action. it is a lonely strip of code on mew and missingno. when my friend found it, he brought it up front to the active coding. the strip says that when you catch missingno. and have battled/caught mewtwo, mew can be found in any legendary pokemon's place(articuno, moltres, zapdos, mewtwo, and there may be more, i dont know what else he brought into active code.) the bigwigs at nintendo put this at the back so they could make mew an event pokemon. some japanese versions have an inactive strip on celebi. my hacking friend has american and japanese versions of every pokemon game.
Yeah, it's called scripting. The variable you talk about doesn't exist, since missingno is not an intended pokemon, but, well, I can ask Coolboyman if you want.
end off topic zone one. next zone starts here he also put a missingno. on my pokemon diamond game, same glitchy qualities.
YAY YOUR FRIEND CAN HACK D/P! Please, ask him to make a tutorial. The people in the Hacks showcase will be eternally thankful.
to replace the things you have to do, you had to talk to dawns father, then fly to twinleaf town and surf on the ponds edge there(the one thats facing away from the wall). the number of pokeballs you have equals the pokedex number(national) and the number of great balls equals the level. if you dont have any great balls, you get a level NaN^NaN pokemon, with the pokerus virus. the infinity virus will not spread from this one. if you dont have any pokeballs, you will catch missingno. if you have more than 493 then you will catch a level 1 suicune that knows transform and fly. it evolves into a missingno. named lucario at level 16, and it evolves into a inferrion(infernape-torterra-empoleon combination. the graffic shows all three side by side. you pick the attacks for each) that has infinity virus, pokerus, and a daycare anomalty at level 36. the viruses wil spread to the starters in your box if you have any. this only works with hacks, remember, only hacks
I only have one thing to say about the first bolded line: WTF?
The "Inferrion" you talk about must be a friend of the Charmander with Squirtle's shell.
About the second one, I can't barely reply. "Only in hacks". Then why all this paragraph?
the daycare anomalty: if left at the daycare, it will show you having a ditto and a dialga at the daycare on your poketech. it will always make eggs, no matter if you have one or two pokemon there. the eggs will hatch into either a chimtwiplup(chimchar-turtwig-piplup, which evolves into monfernplup( you should be able to guess by now), then inferrion, or it will hatch into one of the legendaries(event pokemon too)(these would be dialga, palkia, heatran, rotom, shaimin, arceus, darkrai, celebi, mew, mewtwo, groudon, kyalga, raquaza, deoxys, manaphy, pheon, gyrantina, articuno, moltres, zapdos, suicune, entei, raikou, ho-oh, lugia, jirachii, latias, latios, mesprit, azael, uzki(?)... tell me if i missed any...) or a combination of the legendaries, acording to games they appeared in, or what group they were in together in the games. see legendary grouping at the bottom
YAY CHIMTWIPLUP! And why not Charquirsaur? I really preferred it. Yeah, I like the old times.

Oooh! A secret unrevealed island which doesn't even appear in the map data of the game where you can change your pokedex number hex using a simple data! Why nobody ever talked about it in the 12 years since Green and red were released in Japan?

eight: sadly to say, you'd have to wait for me to convince my hacking friend to make a website, and then pay a steap price to have him hack your game. and it takes expensive equipment and a lot of game knowhow to hack it yourself
nine: celebii fits in two categories.

one: strange. mine can hold items.
Then you must have the only single copy of B/R/Y where the pokes can hold item.
two: yes i can really do this
What exactly? The "100 revives" thing? Can you show any proof? (I.E.: screenshots, a video)
three: the diamond Missingno. is a programming hack
A diamond hack? The you can make it do virtually anything, it's not worth explaining it here.
four: I have thouroughly tested all of this
Cough. I can't reply to this, it's your word against mine (and common sense, but hey, who knows? Maybe you are right, though I doubt it.)
five: most glitches are extremely rare happenings
I say the same. Have you tried redoing it?
six: yes i can trade missingno., but only after i found debug
What? Oh, you are messing up with the programming core. then it's not a glitch, it's a hack. And it's not the same.
seven: the messed up sprite of the charmander/squirtle/bulbasaur gurgle has actually happened, but only once
So I guess you don't have any proof other than your words, then, am I wrong?
seven: the glitch zone is the area to catch missingno.
I thought it was Cinnabar Island?
eight: sadly to say, you'd have to wait for me to convince my hacking friend to make a website, and then pay a steap price to have him hack your game. and it takes expensive equipment and a lot of game knowhow to hack it yourself
No, thanks, there already are people in the rom-hacking section investigating it. And is Hex Workshop "expensive equipment"? Because just with that program, you can hack any game.
if i missed any complaints or comments let me know.
Yes, you missed a lot. I suggest you to re-read my post again. But, oh well.

MissingNo was an original glitch in the Pokemon red blue and yellow generation it as you know gave infinate of thev item in the sixth slot when caught I think...this glitch was fixed when making Red and Green and dosn't exsist
yes, they fixed this by the old man getting a headache and not showing you how to catch a pokemon. instead, he asks you if the teachy TV is helping, or gives it to you. there have been rumors of another glitch pokemon, some different than others. oh, and some of the japanese versions have glitches where you can walk/run/surf/bike and sometimes rocksmash through walls. diamond and pearl japanese versions allow you to surf through the first elite four room door into the mystery zone. while here, you can get virtually anywhere in the game, although it is risky to play around with it.
back to fire red and leaf green. one rumor is that the method to catch missingno. has changed. no proof found yet. another is that it has a question mark for its glitch like d/p, and that there is a method to find and catch it. again, no proof, but they may have been confused with the ? unknown. there is one that says that there is a glitch that has you battle all the legendaries consecutively. no proof, they probably hacked it or are lying. one final one, and the most interesting that i know of, is that missingno. has been made into an actual pokemon and is still #0, and that they made it into a legendary, the only one that evolves. complete fake, most likely, but still entertaining.
maybe if we are lucky, nintendo will remake GSC and leave a heaping pile of glitches for the taking. unfortunately, no one we know can see the future, and NP's time machine is broken until their quarters for corrections jar is filled(inside joke for NP readers), not to say any names *COUGH* chris*COUGH* *COUGH*
want to add a rumor? post below!

...well i tried the missingno. trick out for myself and actually caught him, but i didn't know that it messes up your HOF even if you dont save it! I restarted the game dunno if that helps
How very odd, how very odd indeed...once i saw a psyduck which looked like it had no eyes
The reason why this stuff happens is because the sprites in most videogames are not single images but actually a bunch of parts that are overlayed/pieced together. Because of this, it isn't impossible to run into a Pokemon that's half-and-half with another while only having one name.
As for why MissingNo looks like a barcode is because he's not a sprite; he's a chunk of pixelated binary. Old 8-bit games can only support 4 colors per sprite, one of them often being used for transparency. That's why sprites are done in pieces. Megaman's face, for instance, is placed on a separate sprite that just floats in front of his body.
Back to MissingNo's body, it's made of bits of code that are turned into pixels. If you use a tile/sprite editor, you can actually see the binary pixels that make up the game's code. It looks a lot like eReader's dot code, I know. The only thing I'm still trying to figure out is what part of the code is MissingNo made of? His graphic never changes, so I don't think it's anything controlled by variables, but rather a static element. It could be his name for all we know.
I'm still looking for a translator that can make something of him, and I'll keep you guys posted if I find anything.

I was playing Yellow and used the catch other trainer's pokemon cheat except i turned it on early and caught the trainer. My pokedex pops up and says I caught a Rhydon. Then the trainer sends out "trainerpkm" or whatever its called, i cant remember. Then my game gets really slow with each turn untill it freezes. It didn't erase my game though.

And has anyone else noticed how most of the glitches seem to be connected to Rhydon as well? What's up with that?

OOOOO what if missingo is an item that got weirdi just made that 1 up but ya never know
missingno is number 000 in the pokedex you can only get it if you a certain things in the game
missingno becomes before bulbasaur in the pokedex too
in pokemon emerald I was using the 5000 exp cheat and sometimes it goes to a pokemon who wasn't in battle and i got a missingo and it was learning bulbasaur moves and i tried to make it forget a move and my vba froze
I have never heard such a scientific and/or reasonable outlook on Missing No. But is there any way to make this work for Yellow?
Here's the thing. I started a new game a while ago. I have yet to beat Sabrina, Giovanni's Gym and the League, but that's it.
Other than Glitch City, is there some other cool Glitch for Yellow that doesn't require me going back a few steps and/or starting a new game?
yes there is a gameshark code to get missingo in yellow i would tell u but........:disappoin i lost it
Missingno is a glitch pokemon in R/B. It is encountered after talking to the old man who teaches you how to catch pokemon, have him teach you, then immediately fly to Cinnabar and surf on the East coast. The popular theory is that when you are taught by the old man, you're name is replaced by the old man's. It's assumed that this name variable is stored in the same data area of Cinnibar island East coast, so your name's hexidecimal determines what kind of pokemon you can capture on there, and what Missingno will look like. Sometimes it'll look like some random pixels, random sprites, or a ghost Aerodactyl/Kabutops. Some people harshly critizize this glitch because it can freeze the game, crash the game, or mess up the hall of fame. Missingno appears as 000 in the pokedex.
i have seen someone`s name change to old man because they forced him to fight a trainer its all over youtube

That's pretty cool. What attacks did it have?
I didn't get to see its stats but the glitched pokemon (its not called "missingno." but "trainerpkm" or something) that came after it used some kind of glitched attack. The attack's name was all jumbled up and it KOed by 1st pokemon in 1 hit. Then the game got really slow and eventually froze.

Actually you can get missingno on pokemon yellow. For some strange reason when I started my pkmon yellow game the 3rd time i completed it I did not recive pikachu from prof oak, I recived a Missingno that looks like the ghost from pkmon tower. I have never recompleated that game as Missigno is the best pokemon I have ever had (on yellow i do not use any other pokemon at all). I have never lost a single battle with it (yes, even link battles!).It can learn any Tm too!It stays at lv 100 though which is weird as I heard they can reach lv 255 in some cases. Also I never seem to run out of items in my 6th slot. Anyone know why?

Have you performed the mew glitch at all? If so then that may be your problem.
Ok I have never ever got infinite items before, it is most likely to be the x128 items (with the funny glitch block)It happens because of the bytes used with the MissingNo encounter. Also the thing about going up to lvl 255 is impossible to do because pokemon in your team only go up to lvl 100 (so do wild pokemon.) but again it is to do with the bytes encountered with these glitches.
MissingNo is tricky to come across in Pokemon Yellow. I'm not sure if this thread has the Special List required for the Mew Trick but anyway... MissingNo can only appear in Yellow by accomplishing this trick, also it has a high failure rate so it can take a long time before you encounter that lvl 7 MissingNo! Still it has all the same side effects as the Red and Blue, some good, Most bad, even if you encounter it.

I got a whole box of Missingno. Thing is, wasn't the Missingo glitch a mistake, but was the Mew "glitch" put in the games on purpose?

This is exactly what my friend just told me.
"something is totally wrong with my yellow version.
i was in victory road, when i climbed the ladder
once i got to the other floor, the start menu came up.
i thought it was a little strange, but ignored it.
but once i closed the menu
a Lv.7 staryu attacked, a staryu in victory road!"
I asked her if she caught it, and she did!

That is what happens when you do the Mew glitch, however your friend must have used a different Special Stat to the one that is required for Mew.
No, the Mew Glitch wasn't put in on purpose, it's just another programming oversight that litters R/B. As soon as you start actually looking for glitches such as the Missingno. Glitch and Mew glitch, it's shocking just how glitchy these games were.

Man, all of these glitches are amazing except for the one on Missingno, when I caught that, it froze my game and I had to start all of again.

Yeah, R/B are very glitchy. One time I did the Mew glitch wrong and got a Lv.7 MissingNo. Wierd. I also put my Missingno in a box once, and the pokemon in the box with all started to dissapear..>.>

The sprite glitches wear off after time, though. Just as long as you don't trade the bloody thing, especially to Yellow and up.
what would happen if i traded the missigno that looks like a ghost to crystal? I was thinking about doing it but i wanted to see if anyone had domne it and had any side effects. Anyway I have not done the mew glitch (not that i know of anyway) what does it involve? plus it would help for the missingno fanfic I am writing

I've never heard of anyone trying to trade a Missingno to a Metal gen game. I doubt it would work, but I think it's worth a try.
But, if it soed work I don't think anything good will happen to your Crystal game....mostly bad things would happen.

Ok........I did it last night and after the trade to crystal it turned into a mew!?!?!?!?
I have put it in my pc and noting has happened!
Does it take a long time for side effects to kick in?
the only one i have had so far is that I found wild mew`s at level 10 in dragons den!
that one effect I am not complaining about!
after catching a few I saved and restarted the game and I can`t catch them any more:(
Why did my missingno turn into mew and atomic reactors turn into slowpoke?

Sorry I cant get that link you posted to work.
I have no idea why I could trade it to crystal and I am thinking about trading other forms of missigno (I have a game genie so I can get them all) from red onto crystal.
Maby different missingnos result in other pokemon in trades? I hope to find out!

everyone here know that ghost of lavander pokemon tower, right? everyone know that you cant catch it, right? my cousin once showed one as his pokemon! he told me that it was a missigno that turned into that ghost... well, it may be true, as its name and data are full of strange signs, and its on lvl 171...
Off topic: anyone here know the reason for the mew glitch? it would be nice to have a thread like this on that glitch...
EDIT: i was trying to find a missigno, the name BLUE, but could only find pidgey, pidgeotto, rattata, raticate and tangela... ive changed the name many times, but i always find these pokemon

Also, in the same path you encounter Missingo, you find pokes you've seen a few moments before but in Lv. 200 or so... You can't use them in the wild for they'll level up, but in Cable battles the level is respected and you attack with your own super Cloyster lv 256, yeah!!!

I'd like to make a question about Missingno.
Missingno.'s Base Stats are
HP 33
ATK 137
DEF 1
SPD 29
SPCL 6
when I tried to trade it to crystal it bacame another pokémon (what is normal) but its SPCL. ATK and SPCL. DEF stats were lots higher than a 6. Does anybody know what are Missingno.'s SP. ATK and SP. DEF?
Evoslingerr
May 15th, 2008, 12:58 AM
Missingo can only be found in RED, where the S.At and the S.Def appear only as Special, so the only way to know for sure would be to trade in to any second generation game....just the way you did...Perhaps as the second generation games weren't designed to recieve a pkmn such as missingno it doesn't have SP.ATK and SP. DEF. Hey this made me think, this kinf of errors are intentionally? I mean is it posible that a programming error may result in the creation of a totally new poke???

Hi I tried trading different missingno`s to crystal to see what happened and these are my results....
Aerodactayl fossil: Turned into slowpoke, no side effects
Ghost of pokemon tower: Turned into mew, until game is turned off of all you can catch is mew.
Kaputops fossil: Turned into a slowpoke, no side effects
Trainerpkmon: Game crashed after leaving trade center, turned back on and all was as it was before trade.
"M": Game crashed, M dissapered, game time played was reduced to zero and hall of fame record is corrupted.
All I have done so far.

Yes, things like that happen, but some glitches just can't be traded. All you can do is check their stats in the crystal screen, where there are SP. ATK and SP. DEF.

I guess but the ghost misingno as a mew is just evil in battle! Mew gets to attack everyone with moves like sleep powder! one it would not be usualy able to get as there is no tm for it!

hey guys I found out how to get missingno on pearl!
simply go to iron island but use a cheat device so you can walk through walls
then go back to canaclave with riely or whatever his name is. go to any body of water and surf and you get attacked by a persian and a missingno!
strange eh? my mate showed me it. problem is that you cant ever ditch riely
and sometimes when missingno is caught the came just crashes >.<

I remember that in Yellow, I have a lv. 1 Rhydon with numerous amount of EXP and some glitch things as it's to next level. It's moves have been replaced with Cooltrainer(F) and it's HP is 999/999, even if it's hit with Horn Drill. By what I remember, I have caught 63 Missingno.'s in Yellow and my game never crashed, but my Pokedex is scrambled now and I don't have my Kangaskhan, Tauros, and Chansey anymore (time to catch some more)...

Misingno. or missing number can also make you encounter pokemon that don't exist or don't exist yet, turn into anything, make your pokemon level to fictional levels & learn attacks they shouldn't, make you able to ride your bike up buildings, make you look like a pokemon, let you catch other trainers & their pokemon, throw (rocks, friut, trashcans, voltorbs, geodudes, gravelers, golems) as pokeballs, and other messed up junk.

You know, I laugh at people who have their game's screw up because of glitches? My name in Red is H, so I can only see 'M, but I've never suffered any permanent damage from 'M. My game save is okay, I got 9999999 money from buying items, duplicating them, using them, then selling the extras, I have a Kangaskan who knows Water Gun, Water Gun and Sky Attack. And you know Hall of Fame? I never bothered beat the Elite Four! And 'M only affects it if you already have one, even if you meat him, then beat the E4 for the first time, you're HoF will be okay (from what I've heared, anyway).

the effects of missingno are very dangerous and can destroy your game!
Go to pokeon red on gamefaqs.com and read about missingno there, I would attach the file here but it is copyrighted so I will not do it.

The effects of MissingNo. depend on which MissingNo. you encounter. There are 4 kinds of MissingNo., glitch block version, ghost version, aerodactyl fossil MissingNo. and Kabutos Fossil MissingNo. (I've heard this one is safe IF you give him a nickname). I can tell you all about these glitches.

I have a theory on how to fix missingno (note-this is only to make it never come again-it cannot fix the old glitch).
1. Disassemble the 8x8 icons in Missingno. and make them hexadecimal.
2. Open the pokemon red/blue rom in a hex editor.
3. Search the hex strings you came up with.
4. Mess with crap until missingno stops appearing.
or you could do this:
1. Go into poke
