Here are some ideas I had for a GBA version of Pokemon Colosseum (would have possibly been XD: gale of darkness but i never played that one, so eh):

HACK OF: FireRed

how catching and purifying pokemon would go:

-you fight a trainer that "has" a dark pokemon.
-when you defeat the trainer, he/she disappears and the dark pokemon appears in its spot.
-you have one chance to catch the dark pokemon just like the real game.

to purify
-you max the pokemon's happiness and then evolve it back to normal

Badges:
-get badges from Mt. Battle tiers

Pokedex:
-the only pokemon in pokedex will be your starters(umbreon and espeon), the dark pokemon you could catch in the game+dark lugia, and the purified (regular) versions of those pokemon+lugia.

Therefore, in order to get ho-oh, you have to fill pokedex and have all the badges

Trainers: the trainers' pokemon will be almost identical to the actual game, but levels will be reduced a bit since i dont know exactly how i could make mt. battle re-playable other than with the VS. Seeker

Dark pokemon: pallette shifts of the regulars, obviously darker than regular, but will have a +10 base stat boost to the pokes sp. atk and atk

----------
Staff:

BrainDamage (me): mapping, scripting, little bit of spriting
sebbe17: spriting
Virtual Chatot: Scripting, some mapping
----------------

I've but just begun teaching myself scripting, and have but only recently been hacking, but nonetheless, with some help of some scripters and once i've learned some good scripting, this could come along quite well.

any comments, suggestions, etc greatly appreciated. I NEED MORE STAFF!

This is a great Idea, I always wanted an XD or Colloseum for the GBA. I'll support and maybe even help, too.

Making a colosium advance version is a very good idea but you have no screenshots and it seems youve posted this too early.
EDIT: *checks the rules again* o right o well i love collosium btw good luck i hope this hack turns out well.

It's not a thread like that. This was just an idea that people can see it on. Check the forum rules again.

Thats why i posted this in the scrapbox first. Also, I did have the outskirt stand done, but i was trying to edit the title screen, but i didnt leave myself a backup (idiot), and it wasnt working properly and I couldnt fix it, so my mapping of outskirt stand and text up to that point is gone. Another thing is I dont know what to do about the rival/May and how he should be in relation to everything else.

Im definitely gonna need someone who can sprite the main characters, ex. team snagem head gonzap, the Cipher Admins, etc.

Also how to go about having both espeon and umbreon from the start im not sure how to go about, other than scripting someone to give them to you, then instead of fighting one of the cipher peons for either bayleef, croconaw, or quilava, you get them like you would get them from Oak.

Which brings me to my next point: would this be better in Ruby, or FireRed?

I say FireRed because in Ruby the Truck animation is still in there, along with the extra tiles.

if I just totally skip professor oak and the rival and just have the mom give you the pokedex and umbreon and espeon, will that mess up gameplay? of course i would be sure to delete the scripts of the rival and oak in other places. Ill just have to come up with something creative for the intro with oak

Cause how its gonna go, is as you're about to walk out your front door, your mom yells "wait! don't forget your pokemon! Take this too. it came for you in the mail. Lemme read the letter that came with it, 'This is a pokedex. It records the pokemon you catch. Use it well'"

I was thinking of doing something like this, though I chose to make a different hack.
The annoying thing of this concept is the mapping, especially the desert parts. There aren't many trees or border and it requires some tile changing to fit whats in the actual game.

Good luck on it.

I need staff. I need people that can do either of these: Moderate/advanced scripting, spriting, tileset editing/inserting, pokemon inserting, maybe something else. PM me with what skill, past experience, proof of experience, and contact info until i have a thread approved in the team discussion forum

Good idea. I actually was going to try a hack like this and thought against it. Mapping would be way way difficult. You know how the main character starts out with a Pokemon right from the beginning? Maybe you can just make it so that the main character walks a step, and they get the Espeon and Umbreon. Y'know, just make it a trigger on the ground and when they step on it, they get their Pokemon. That way, you don't have to make an extra event explaining how you got them. They'd just be there, like in the original. You'd just have to make sure that they have to step on it, or they won't get their Pokemon at all.

For the shadow Pokemon, just have a regular battle, but leave out the shadow Pokemon. After the battle, have a wild battle with the Shadow occur. How you're going to make it shadow, I have no idea. I'd just leave it a regular Pokemon. Just add in some bogus key item that automatically purifies it upon capture, or something. Good luck, you'll need it for this project. I'd be happy to help you work out a few problems. Like if you need to know how you're going to duplicate an event that happened in the original, but have no idea how you're going to do it. I have some ideas from when I was going to do this still in my mind. Drop me a PM if you need help, ok?

This is a great idea,

Heres a tip, Import some of Pokemon Emeralds battle dome tiles, they would look good in a colosseum format

BrainDamage
December 26th, 2007, 05:06 PM
indeed, some of the battle frontier tiles would be fitting for some parts of this hack. Its just a matter of how to do that

Virtual Chatot
December 26th, 2007, 05:15 PM
Rip them and then Change the tiles...

This would actually be better as an Emerald Hack, if you were willing to deal with the fact that it is pretty unstable.

BrainDamage
December 26th, 2007, 05:30 PM
if i make it emerald, then i have to deal with the truck and the clock. among other things. hmmmm

Virtual Chatot
December 26th, 2007, 05:35 PM
Good Point, well Stick with Firered then.

Imporing the tiles isn't hard, you would just have to edit the tileset

Or he could just ask Serg!o how he did it. Serg!o made you start out with a pokemon in Naranja, so maybe if someone finds how he did it, then you guys could make it from there.

And I'd be willing to help, also, but I don't know if you'd need me.

Also, how would you have the names and stuff? Would you only have the pokemon in Colosseum in it and replace the others or something?

Virtual Chatot
December 26th, 2007, 07:09 PM
Actually, you could just hide the script in some text, and just not add the jingle.

You would need someone to talk to you in the beginning, or some text to appear.

~*Pikafan*~
December 26th, 2007, 07:48 PM
True, but what happens if someone playing presses start at the beginning as soon as the game starts, see no pokemon, but after they play it a bit, they find they do have pokemon?

Virtual Chatot
December 26th, 2007, 07:53 PM
The Character shrinks and fades, as soon as the screen shows up, someone talks to you.

Hide the Give Pokemon Script in their text, and when you can walk, its there

BrainDamage
December 26th, 2007, 08:54 PM
or, my original idea was that you still have a house, and when you try to leave your house, your mom stops you, calls you over and gives you your pokemon and the pokedex.

Pikafan: what are you talking about "names and stuff", and what do you specialize in, hacking-wise?

~*Pikafan*~
December 26th, 2007, 10:19 PM
First off, there's a problem with that. Your mom is not in the game and you don't have a house.

And by names and stuff, I mean like the name of a pokemon.

EX: Shadow Bayleaf

I'll PM you what I specialize in.

BrainDamage
December 27th, 2007, 12:13 AM
yes, i realize that none of that exists in the game, but it smooths a few things over

How about a game that just takes place in Orre?

BrainDamage
January 2nd, 2008, 01:02 AM
that would defeat the whole purpose of the game. although a a good idea at first, that would not work in general. Orre doesnt have "routes" in which to catch pokemon, so the only way Orre would work out without it being like Colosseum is if you ARE Team Snagem, and you steal other trainers pokemon (ex. using the gameshark code and making sure its active throughout the game)

XD375
January 3rd, 2008, 10:54 AM
I'm sure the GameShark code is rather glitchy, plus, if this IS a Colosseum remake, what are you going to do about routes?

BrainDamage
January 3rd, 2008, 03:44 PM
the routes will simply be short deserty areas. no wild pokemon anywhere in the game, cept for the shadow pokemon that appear right after you defeat the trainer. thats how routes were in the game. they didnt really exist, you just got on your air bike thing and then appeared in the next town

Virtual Chatot
January 3rd, 2008, 09:28 PM
Technically you could deactivate the No catching Trainers Pokemon Script, and create a script which would set up the snagging.

This would be an extremely long script though, and you would also need to script different catch rates with each different Shadow Pokemon.

All in all, this would be a better hack if you simply had a character going to random towns, Each town having a Colosseum.

You could also have the travel between town scripts in a bike, all that would require is editing the Boat Cutscene script between Island.

You also could make this an Emerald Hack, and just use the Truck Animation as a Boat Animation.

Emerald is generally better, because it already has a Berry System, a Clock System, and a Phone System.

I would love to see this completed, and I would also like to be apart of this

BrainDamage

virtual chatot, what do you specialize in?

Virtual Chatot
January 3rd, 2008, 10:07 PM
Scripting, Mapping, Storyboard Stuff

BrainDamage
January 3rd, 2008, 10:35 PM
hmm. you're in as a scripter, and some mapping just to take some of the load off. do you do any work with changing tiles within the tilesets (moreso than going through the block editor in advance map)

Virtual Chatot
January 3rd, 2008, 10:41 PM
Yeah, I'll even change the tileset colors to make the game have an even more special feel.

axlefoley
January 4th, 2008, 09:07 AM
kool do you have any screenies now? even on like an old tileset just as a teaser or something

BrainDamage
January 4th, 2008, 02:56 PM
Ill make a short video of the first town when i finish the scripting for inside the outskirt stand. right now the ourskirt stand is a little building instead of a train... Also, how do you change the out Oak in the intro to the game? I was gonna replace Oak with Gonzap, since thats where you start, then you steal the snagging machine and set off the explosion. I know how to change out the pokemon. I replaced the nidoran with skarmory. havent replaced the cry yet though

Virtual Chatot

You would have to edit it using another program.

If you want to be a serious ROM hacker, you are also going to have to learn Tile Editing.

In my opinion, this shouldn't be an exact Colosseum remake, That is almost impossible.

BrainDamage
January 5th, 2008, 01:31 AM
i've done some tile editting, but only within advance map. (using the block editor).

and yes, an exact colosseum remake would be virtually impossible
