View Full Version : Mantine Rocks: Part 2

So I revealed one of my favorite pokemon the other day, MANTINE! After some test running on my team, Vire has been great for me. it has been some of the other pokemon on my team that have let me down, which is why I seek your help today.

Miltank, I've noticed, has really only been useful for heal belling and para haxing with body slam. Otherwise, it's kind of been meh.

My real problem is that Donphan is a HUGE dead weight for this team. I don't even notice SR uis up half the time (:0) so I rarely spin with it, and it can't even hit most pokemon since EQ is walled by levitaters and such. but I need its healing and PHazing moves, so I'd just like a totally new physical wall that can spin, PHaze, and heal itself. That could be a problem.

So I was thinking find two pokemon that can (together) spin, PHaze, and provide cleric support, while one acts as a physical wall. So yeah, I'm lost.

Any help would be VERY appreicated. Thanks in ADV (Pun intended!)

But here's the team:

Mantine (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Water Absorb
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SAtk / 252 SDef
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Confuse Ray
- Surf
- Toxic
- Rest

MANTINE! Yeah, its 4x electric weak hurts. Confuse ray to rattle incoming boltbeamers and toxic for a better way to deal damage than surf. This thing actually holds its own against mixed infernape. It just has to be able to OHKO with surf, and I need your help with figuring out if it can do that. If not, what shall the EVs be? Anyways, confuse ray annoys the heck out of pokemon who switch into this bad boy.

Really, smogon's analysis was just bashing mantine, so I'm trying to make it useful. Really, it was just useless. so I've taken things into my own hands.

And really, this thing has proven really useful with Cressi's light screen support. This thing has beaten down countless gengars and Zams who think they can take it on.

The 4x electric weak really hurts it, but lol, there was this one guy introduced this gen that 75% of teams seem to be weak to...

Electivire (M) @ Expert Belt / Life Orb
Trait: Motor Drive
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Cross Chop
- Earthquake
- Ice Punch
- Thunderpunch

THAT guy! Once it enters the ring, attackers will think twice about Tbolting Mantine. But yeah, physical sweeper. I'm having trouble with the item, I'd like some facts behind your reasons for either one guys!

Donphan (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Earthquake
- Roar
- Rest
- Rapid Spin

Donphan is cool. Spinner and PHazer and physical wall. but I need help in this Department.

Cresselia (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 108 Def / 148 SDef
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Reflect
- Light Screen
- Psychic
- Ice Beam

Cressi is a mixed wall for me, and it counters lots of stuff. I'm leaning towards light screen, but again, I'm undecided! I took out rest and just went for the all-out pseudo-passer design. It works quite well actually. I was thinking of adding more SAtk EVs though since the screens uberize its defenses anyways (even though they're for my team rather than itself).

Celebi @ Leftovers
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 220 Def / 36 Spd
Bold Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Grass Knot
- Heal Bell
- Recover
- Leech Seed

Celebi = Win.

Starmie @ Life Orb / Leftovers
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 172 HP / 216 Spd / 120 SAtk
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Rapid Spin
- Recover
- Surf
- Thunderbolt

Starmie has entered the building.

Starmie is a good spinner and can Recover; it counters quite a bit of things but is not nearly as tankish. Hippowdon is basically a better Donphan without Rapid Spin. Meganium can replace Miltank as a bulky therapist; it also seeds and sets up screens, freeing up some space on Cressy.

Claydol can be a replace for donphan (But can't remember moveset). Tangrowth can be also be a physical wall and deliver a stab energy ball with base 110 spatt (Also can't remember moveset).

Its the haxathon team! Miltank is great in BL/UU, but its only real power is there. Celebi could replace it, or if you want a Aromatherapist physical tank, Meganium I suppose, or Vileplume, as Sims says, it rocks with a little defense.

Tangrowth works much better physically, not specially.

Well what you COULD do is replace Roar for ICe Shard, which is indeed a very handy tool. But Phazer I suppose. I've always found that Phazing is MUCH to unreliable and can get you screwed over. Remember our battle, you phazed in Gengar, and my Gengar has Energy Ball, not expected usually, but still, dangerous if you screw up.

but roar isn't the only way to PHaze...:/ anyway...like stated Pysical tangrowth>specail

but roar isn't the only way to PHaze...:/

Then give me a 100% way to PHaze besides roar that isn't whirlwind.

anyway...like stated Pysical tangrowth>specail

What is with this tangrowth debate?

It's a good thing I'm in the holiday spirit, because that Phazing comment = fail. Roar and whirlwind are the only ways to PHaze. There are others, but those don't guarentee a switch, dubbing them useless in my book.

Anyways, I usually don't have this problem since Articuno is always my beller :(

But anyways, here's what I thought I should do.

I'm going to use bulky Starmie to spin for me over Specsmence.

Now I have two slots open for PHazer and beller and physical wall. So I'm adding skarmory and Celebi.

Oh, BTW, I know PHazing can get risky, but most gengars have Tbolt and end up at the mercy of my electivire. Score.

I'd go any PHazing wall over Skarm, I need ideas please.

Hippowdon works well; it's like Donphan but no spinning.

Yeah, but Sandstream kind of screws me over and I really wouldn't want that :P

Claydol@Leftovers
Nature: Sassy/Quiet
Not good at EVs. Just put some into Special Defense/Special Attack

-Cosmic Power
-Rapid Spin
- Psychic
- Charge Beam

That good enough?

Well, Cressi kind of does the same thing, which would make it redundant kind of. Claydol IMO isn't much of a pure physical wall anyways, CBmence owns that thing :( Any CBer does that outpredicts it.

Yeah, also needs to be able to PHaze. I was thinking Skarmory, but then a boltbeam weak the size of alaska forms :(

Ooooh, I thought you were just needing a spinner/phazer or something like that in general. Okay, Physical wall. I guess that won't be problem...hm...

You could always use Cloyster. Though despite the weaknesses, His defense tops that of Defense Deoxys, I believe.

500+. Not bad :o

Or if you don't like that...

Sandslash@Leftovers
Nature: Impish
EVs: 252 Def / 250 atk / 4 Spd
Ability: Sand Veil

-Earthquake
-Rapid Spin
-Safeguard
-Rest

Greatest Status guard evar. Safeguard shoos away annoying Hypnosis gengar and other status pokemon, giving you HUGE relief.

Not a phazer but...D:

How about my darling Steelix? I'm actually disappointed in myself for forgetting all of my favorite pokemon :0 But Geez, this gengar weak isn't getting any better, is it? O_o

Whenever I use Cresselia as a wall I also use..

Spiritomb@Lefties
Nature:Careful(Sassy because I was lazy ;D)
EVs:252 HP/144 Atk/114 Sp. def
-Sucker Punch
-Taunt/Pursuit
-Pain split
-WoW

It takes around 34% from Gar's Shadow ball and can either Punch or Pursuit it. :D Watch out for Hypnosis.

If Starmie is spinning that opens up room for Donphan to use Ice Shard. Creesy eats up bolt beam, but if its that big of an issue, Bronzong can replace her and laugh at Bolt Beam.

Bronzong, now THAT sounds juicy. But it would have to be a pure physical wall, ideas?

Eos Aduro
December 26th, 2007, 04:28 AM
Well it can be just a physical wall. It takes away some good characteristics, but still a decent strategy.
