Hey everyone, I'm new here. I joined because I am looking for a few things.

Currently I'm thinking of starting a project for Pokemon. It will be an online Pokemon Battle game for the PC. It will be based primarily off Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire. It will be much like the battle tower (as I believe its called) in pokemon. You will be able to login, and battle other users, have group matches, level up your guys, buy things, etc. Currently, it's not planned to include a solo quest feature like the normal game offers. You won't move around the Hoenn world and do quests. It will primarily be a large building dedicated to pokemon battles. As time goes on I suspect I'll add other things like group quests, and casinos etc, but for now I just want to get a multiplayer battle system going. The game will run off Flash, PHP, and mySQL

It will appear just the same as Pokemon RS does, I will be extracting sprites so that it looks the same. I found all the sprites on vroad.net (http://vroad.net) however, I still need the set of sprites where the pokemon are facing the opposing pokemon.

Does anyone know where I can find these? Other people that think they could offer their services to the project, let me know. Thanks :)

I downloaded that and took a look at it. It is QUITE inferior to what I plan on making. That game is quite limited. First off, it does not have the actual battle system used in Pokemon. It simply simulates a similar battle system. My game will look identical to the real game, and with time might evolve into a full scale MMORPG. People can actually walk around like in the real game, buy items, talk to people, form parties, etc. The NetBattle program you told me about is simply a battle prompt.

Another thing I noticed about that program. All characters are are level 100 from the beginning, this gives no chance of letting the trainer raise the pokemon. In my game, users will have to build up their pokemon and make them good, rather than just choosing the pokemon they want and telling which moves to have.

the point of lvl 100 is so that new players won't suffer from being thrashed the very second they get on... (which is something I dislike about all online rpg) Plus if it's about building up the team (which has its plus), it'll be quite time consuming for all players, and certainly not everyone has the time. Just my opinion...

The sprites you're looking for should be available at pokefor.tk

yes. having to level up your guys might take some time for certain ppl and they wouldn't want to do it. but there will be matches for different levels. a level 3 team isn't going to be fighting level 20 teams... so it all works out. leveling up is for those who wish to challenge themselves more. leveling up may also have advantages. there will be competitions etc that you can win and maybe get neat prizes, items, money or something.

I agree with Frosty. Not a lot of people will want to spend 10 hours leveling up a Pokemon, going EV hunting, trying to get IVs, and so on when NB just lets you choose right away.

actually, if you're doing EV training make it 100 hours+ to train a team of 6 with correct nature, personality and EV train them all as well... let's not forget that hidden power is completely not usable in a state like that (which is equal to wiping out half of the OU especially Jolteon and electric types who heavily relies on HP Ice/Grass)

the game is not going to be just simply a "battle now" game. hopefully it will become a full scale mmorpg with time. in which case, i think people would take time to play it and rank up their guys, as you would in any mmorpg.

How many MMORPGs are there anyway? Only one I know of is WoW and I'm not sure if that FF11 (or whichever one goes online, I'm getting confused between 11-12-13) is a MMORPG.

mayb this should be in the emulation patches dicussion or the ROMS discussion (never knew the difference between the two). The people there will appreciate this, and mayb even help.
