right, now idont know if this is 100% right but i think i get the gist of chaining... i know the rules of it... just need to know if you keep following the rules of chaining EXACTLY will the chain ever just break? or do chains only break if you do something wrong?
please guys and gals, i need help!

I am pretty sure the chain can randomly break (it is in the game's coding) but following the rules of chaining will make you chain longer.

ok thank you heaps now i know lol one other thing... if you find a shiny, will it be of the one you were chaining?

sorry by that i meant will the shiny patch contain a shiny version of what youve been chaining for, or just something you can find in that area / route?

Yes, a grass patch may shine dramatic sparkles and it will contain a shiny form of whatever you were chaining. Though sometimes, very very rarely, you can get a shiny in a normal patch or something way different in shiny form.
Good luck on the shiny chaining since once you master it, the shinies coming in are awesome. ^^
