View Full Version : Does anyone think D/P is too slow?

I've been playing Pokemon Diamond for some time, and when I went back to LG, battles and text seemed so much faster.

Practically every animation takes longer, including Pokemon animations, move animations, HM animations, surf, etc

Does anyone agree that the D/P versions feel much more slow-paced?

Yeah, everything has been slowed down a notch, even if everything's on the fastest speed possible with no battle animations and fastest text, the gameplay still feels slow.

The only thing that's seemed "faster" is the ability to run inside with the Running Shoes.

I completely agree with you :/ It's especially annoying on wi-fi with all the Leftovers and Sandstorm..ugh..

I feel the opposite. Am I wrong? When I play the GBA, the wild Pokémon move very slowly from the left to the right side of the screen (before it says "Wild ~ appeared!") and the bike seems slower, too. You can't run inside buildings. I don't feel the rest of the animations faster, though.

@Shiny Umbreon: compare the surf speed, and also compare the average animation length of an attack. You'll see what I'm talking about.

Sorry but I think I'm gonna have to disagree. Try going to options and selecting fast text speed or hold down A with good timing when reading. =P

Try going to options and selecting fast text speed
That's what I do in EVERY Pokemon game as soon as I get the opportunity. And the topic isn't about text speed. Animations! -_-

It is slow, and now D/P bores me, but i have to say none of the pokemon games had smooth animations, they just had to make it slow.

can't they make ONE GAME with the RIGHT speed?

FR/LG/R/S/E is a little TOO fast (even for me)
D/P is SLOOOWWW...

Pokemon Diamond and Pearl games are quite slow, but I'm used to certain slowness, so I learned to deal with the speed of the game.

In fact, since I cared so less about speed, I never noticed from the time I got the game until somewhat 2 months ago or something.

So I just really..don't care.

I disagree. The speed of D/P was never a problem with me, nor was it in older Pokemon games. And if you are going to tell me to look at Surf or do a battle, well it's just you then not me.

If I had the choice to lock the lousy 2 framed Pokémon animation, everything will be so much faster!

I don't really think my brain would magically become overclocked (if it even is possible) after starting up LeafGreen right after Diamond.

I would perfectly agree with you. If you play D/P for a day or two, then play the 3rd Gen games, you'll notice the difference in speed.

DP does seem slow, but the begining is a little slow to start with and theres lots of bits where you get talked to alot and you just have to keep pressing "A"

I agree with Shiny Umbreon.

Myabe you guys need to go into options and change the text speed?

El Gofre
January 2nd, 2008, 12:29 PM
Erm, you do realise under options you can change the text speed?

People, please read before you post.

It isn't about text speed, it's about animation speed. Movement on the world map and in battles is horrifically slow.

Short Range
January 2nd, 2008, 12:35 PM
Yes but Text Speed is an animation as well. And Movement is fast with the bike on second gear.

MissMegano
January 2nd, 2008, 04:06 PM
Yeah, it's slow, but you have pretty animations to look at while you wait. :p

I think the animation's slowness can me made up for by using your thumbs on the touch screen to control the battle. It seems to speed things up a lot.

i didnt really notice it until u said and i checked i suppose its slower in ways but its just as enjoyable so u cant really argue
but running indoors is fun and i think the battles are slower so it takes slightly longer but hey who knows?

Menion

Yea, the battles themselves are much slower for sure, but I actually prefer it that way. I went back to playing Ruby for a while and I felt like I blasted through the Magma base at hyper speed.

Also, I do like the ability to run indoors, which helps offset the battle speed. I dunno, it felt much more relaxed and laid back to me, the way a game should feel. I didn't feel as though it was holding me back at all. It's the right speed, imo.

I noticed, but in my opinion it has better graphics, so that's why it takes so long.

Oh, yeah, you're totally right here. Surf fails in D/P. Battle animations, maybe, but I'd really need to compare.

I agree that it does seem to be slowed way down in parts. Especially when surfing over large bodies of water; it takes forever.

And Movement is fast with the bike on second gear.
And even faster is the Acro Bike.

Oh yes, and since they killed off the player's PC item storage, now it's incredibly sloowwwwwwwwwww to go through the items pocket, and even with the spinning thing on the touch screen its not easy to use so...

I do agree in certain things like the surf animation for instance, you do feel the difference once you compare it with an older generation such as Ruby and Sapphire. But I disagree on the fact of when using a bike, I find the bike more smoothly and more reliable on Diamond and Pearl than the other generations so far.

Yes,it is slow, but at least the graphics and animations pwn.Saving the game is what REALLY gets on my nerves though.

I don't think I actually noticed '_'
the only slow-down that I noticed was how slow it is when you surf.

January 3rd, 2008, 01:22 AM
Yeah, too slow. Surfing, saving, and the Pkmn league trainers saying the same stuff during battles make D/P slow, but gameplay makes up for it.

I like the D/P speed better. The advance games seemed fast and jerky. In D/P, it's much smoother and it flows better.

D/p is much slower than 3rd gen. Take surf speeds. when i didn't have Pearl back then, FR/LG's surf speed was much slower than R/S/E... but after I played Pearl with surf, then Played FR and surfed... FR felt like R/S/E's speed compared to Pearl... I don't mind the animations, or text speed, but the surf speed is way to low.

yes i agree that DP is really slow. even with max speed on options its still slow

I found the Pearl/Diamond games kind of slow. For one thing, there are a few delays. For example, battles with AI characters. An AI character notices you, then, after a few seconds of standing there doing nothing, they decide to come over to battle you. The response was immediate in other generations, so what's with the delay here?
I've also noticed slight delays between attacks in battles that weren't in other generations, but they could be loading times...

Of course, all generations had speed-related problems. In Red and Blue, you had to manually go into the items menu every time you wanted to ride the Bicycle. The second-generation games fixed this problem by allowing you to register an item to the Select button, but still, both this generation and the first generation didn't give you the ability to run when you wanted. I found that the third generation's main problem was how long it took to start every battle (this was mostly a problem in R/S/E... the pre-battle animations were a lot shorter in FR and LG). Pearl and Diamond have delays here and there, the saving times are long (especially when the game is saving "a lot of data"), and the walking speed is just painfully slow.

I have yet to experience Surfing in the Pearl version, but from the sounds of it, it seems like it's going to be somewhat torturous.

I really didn't notice that much of a difference in speed. Although, i do get annoyed with all the "leftovers" and "sandstream". Those can make a battle feel long.

Yeah, surfing, i agree, saving - only takes longer if its saving alot of data.
The league trainers/gym leaders saying stuff, well, deal with it, they are trying to make it a bit more real life-ish, so you cant really complain, even if its always the same things >.<

What really dissapointed me in dp, was on the edges (last pixels) of the screen, its wrecked, and always takes my mind off the actual game >.<

Surf speed seems so slow that I could die.

I like the rest of the speed though, the animation flows smoothly now. But the text speed annoys me. It takes forever for a pokemon to come out of it's pokeball.

i do agree that the text is slow, but the gameplay is just way to fast. not including the E4, i beat the game in 3 days only playing about 2 and a half hours a day, where on sapphire and fire red it took me a couple of weeks to beat.

another thing about the game i dont like is me and my friend spent 2 weeks completing the national dex and NOTHING happened. Doesnt in leaf green pof. oak lets you pick like a johto starter?

I'm fine with the slowness of the battles, but I dislike the slow suft. It's 50% slower than the previous generations. ;/

Guys you can just change the text speed.

But yes, it's very slow, I'm not used to such slowness anymore.

Don't forget the dramatic pauses when you fail to catch a Pokemon.

It's only too slow if you don't have the Cobble Badge.
