I'm not too sure if this is the correct place to put this, but does anybody else absolutely hate the fact that you can't rename traded Pokemon? I traded my low-level pokemon for a level 100 Umbreon thinking I got an amazing deal, to find out that it's name is something along the lines of somebody who enjoys homosexual activities. Great. :(

I totally agree. I have a few Pal Park Pokemon with pathetic names from when I was 7. I think you should be able to rename any Pokemon. But then, you could change your friend's Pokemon's name without permission and that would be a mess. Hmmm?

I have no problem with that, because I usually don't use Pokemon I received in a trade for my team.
But if the Pokemon has an inappropriate name I'm not really happy either, I dunno why some people name their Pokemon like that :/

I also hate not being able to nickname them. Zaussome, that's really unfortunate. nothing like that ever happened to me, but my friends who I trade with always give their pokes lame names like speedy and razor. and they always wanna get on with it and won't take the time to change the names.

No I think they're right. I'm damn sick of this nicknaming business. So what if you can change the name of your friend's Pokémon? They can change it back and if you're stupid enough to do that, you should be saying you're their friend! Also, if you migrate Pokémon then decide that Pokémon is fit for ev training or you just want to nickname them, there's no way to do it! You can't even trade it back to the GBA games making it worse than just trading on D/P with some loser who calls their Pokémon ridiculous names. Even then though, you should be able to trade and nickname! People, this is a GAME! Who cares about adopting children? Of course, that's real life but THIS IS A GAME! If you suddenly wanted to start calling your cat or dog Bob instead of Pete, who cares?! That's your decision and your problem! WE WANT NICKNAMING FOR EVERY POKéMON IN DIAMOND AND PEARL!

It is idiotic.
It is stupid how you cant nickname pokemon that werent even nicknamed by the perosn you got them from too.
And it also means you cant nickname events at all which can really be annoying.
Also, I say stuff the nickname rater in real life you could just nickname your pokemon without him too.
Pal Parked pokemon really should be able to be nicknamed if anything.

If you got a pokemon that's nicknamed off the GTS, then there's the simple thing of rebreeding it and training it again. It's not hard, really. D:

I do think you should be able to rename traded Pokemon. I have had a few trades in the past where I wished I could rename a Pokemon. I don't know, I don't think it would be hard to implement. You can nickname and rename your own Pokemon, why not others?

Aww I think you're all over reacting. The fact that you can actually trade with people around the world makes up for the fact that you can't nickname the pokemon.
Even in previous games, you still could not change the nickname of a Pokémon received via trade. So it's not like the feature makes up for this inconvenience.

As an example, if you adopted a child and didn't like its name would you call it pete?
Well, you're not likely to change your child's name even if he/she isn't adopted either.
I HATE that silly rule. I nickname absolutely all my Pokemon, but when I get Pokemon in trades, they don't come with a nickname, so I'm stuck with the species name as the "nickname". Keeping a Pokemon with its species name as its nickname is a very strange concept to me...
Not to mention the fact that a person could play a trick on someone by nicknaming their Pokemon really disgusting or offensive names before trading. Or if the person nicknames Kyogre Mew before trading it, you can't use that Kyogre in official battle competitions (you can't have nicknames that are other Pokemon's names) and are stuck because you can't change Kyogre's nickname.
See why it's a stupid rule? In my opinion, trainers should be able to change the nickname of the traded Pokemon, but the nickname the original trainer gave it still is listed on its Summary. ("Original Nickname")

A Pokémon's nickname is a reflection of the OT who nicknamed it/him/her. So if you have a Blissey nicknamed "Obesity", the OT either had a sick sense of humor, or was completely stupid.
And since it's not your Pokémon, you have no right to give it/him/her a new nickname.

Nicknaming is good. It makes your pokemon unique to al he others of the same species in the world. With this new wifi trading online in DP, the nickname idea has changed. I mean, in th past, you're usually trading with a friend and so it's pretty easy to get what you want. What if you wat to search wifi for a perfect natured pokemon so you trade off dozens of bidoofs for starlys and get good natures. Now you can't nickname it.
You can't even nickname your own pokemon that were migrated from GBA games. That's the stupidest part. Like I said already, it's worse than anything else because you have a definite 0% chance of trading it back. Not possible. So Nintendo needs to fix it.
Who cares about respect for the retarded OT? If you get a Pokémon, you want a name for it that you want, right? I mean, if someone traded me a good natured Lickitung and called it PooHead, I wouldn't go "Oh, I should start ev training it now! I don't want to change the nickname! It would be disrespect for the OT!" in fact I would say something more like this: "Damn this retard! I finally get a pokemon fit to be ev trained and it has the worst possible name in the world! If I battle friends with this, they'll think I'm a loon!"
ウールフ the world doesn't just revolve around breeding off pokemon. What if you got a pokemon with 1 or more stats with perfect ivs and the pokemon was a good nature? And then you saw that the nickname was HomoMan. See my point? And if you breed with the retarded ditto, who's to say you will get the same nature and ivs and gender and whatever? And you call yourself a Pokémon Master! You didn't even know that the baby pokemon inherits the father's moves and not the mother's! It inherits the mother's species and 1 or 2 of the father's moves.
Can a moderator maybe add a poll to this topic please? Then we could vote and show how we really feel. We might get somewhere then instead of arguing over which is best. Although honestly, if you could nickname any pokemon, you don't have to. If you want to keep the nickname or have respect for the OT then you don't have to change it's nickname! It's just a feature that's there in case. That's what most of us want. If you DON'T want it, don't use it.

I haven't had any problems with the nicknames of Pokemon I've received in trades, some of the names are thoughtful like, Cordelia the Ralts, and Pikachika the Pikachu.
But recently I did receive a Manaphy named, "POOP!"

Yea, sometimes nicknames are ok e.g. I got a Glameow off the GTS the first time I used GTS and it was nicknamed Paris. But when you decide to change their names or what not, you expect to be able to do it. It's only a game anyway. Like I said before, you should have the means do to it if you do so wish and if you don't agree with it, don't do it. Simple. Plus it's only a game. It's not like real life so who cares about people's names or animal's names in real life? It's a game! You can even change your nickname on some websites and most chatrooms too!

=] just live with it.
The only thing that buggs me, is the rude nickname people sometimes give their pokemon... the WiFi trade center should have a "censored Nick Remover" so that rude names are reset to their pokemon names =[
and; like, you can view the pokemon summary (i think) before you take the pokemon from WiFi, so well, be smart and check b4 you trade =]

You're a real genius - not. You CANNOT view the summary of a Pokemon on the GTS making it EXTREMELY ridiculous because its pretty much pot luck. You say just to live with it? You can't be a proper fan... Proper trainers would definitely agree that this feature should be included. In fact, it's more work not letting you nickname every Pokémon!
They could easily send out a patch on WiFi via Myster Gift or something to fix it. Now look at this. To let you nickname every pokemon, the game has to execute code that will do this: Check selected pokemon to be nicknamed, ask if you want to rename, if yes, go to name enter screen.
Simple, eh? But what if it was to stop you from nicknaming pokemon that didn't match your trainer ID and secret ID (which you obviously can't naturally find out the secret ID). The code would do this instead: Check selected pokemon to be nicknamed. If trainer ID and secret = player trainer ID and player secret ID, ask if you ant to rename, if yes, go to name enter screen.
Now that may sound weird but I don't know what programming language they do Pokémon in and I can gurantee I won't know it so I can't really write that out as proper code plus I don't know what THEIR variables are.
Anyway, that's it. If they remove the 'if' parts for checking to see if the trainer and secret IDs match the current player's IDs, the problem is solved. It's that easy and I doubt they've made it much more complicated.
FINALLY, like I've said lots already. Stop complaining. If we want it, we have a right to want it. If it was patched, you don'thave to take advantage of the patch. Use it if you want, don't use it if you're not happy with using it. That way, it's available if you want it but if you don't want it, you're not spoiling it for evryone else who wants it because it's in the game - you just don't have to use it!

I don't mind nicknamed Pokemon myself.
If it's a trade, I'll simply ask for a nickname change before the trade, and if it's the GTS, I search for "normal" trades.
(From my experience, unbalanced trades are usually done to annoy people by sending them hacked Pokemon with bad names.)
I myself send Japanese nicknamed Pokemon on GTS, and feel happy when I get an English nicknamed Pokemon in return.

Lol, I'm pretty sure someone out there who has my Vespiquen and Weavile is wishing for a name change. Most of my nicknames are lame, but I still do it because every Pokemon deserves to be called something other than its species name.I'm pretty sure those two people are hating "HoneyBuggy" and "Dark Ice". However, when people go around on GTS with names like "YOUR MOM" and something that should be censored, its annoying. The nickname/EV training predicament doesn't apply to me as I'm one of those people who don't EV train, but I'd gladly forget about any Pokemon that had a bad nickname. AS much as it'd pain me, I'd even release a rare event Pokemon like Manaphy if it had a very inappropriate nickname. If you ask me, the GTS should have that filter program that reverts any inappropriate nickname back to species name. I don't care how difficult it may be, its neccesary.
And with that, POW! I'm gone!

Another thought is if you could rename your trainer. If you give the game away, maybe the person wants a new name. Plus, I know people who nicknamed their trainer (and rival) words I'd get banned here for repeating...

It's also to stop theft, I think... If you were to steal your friend's game in the olden days of B/R/Y/G/S/C/R/S/E, you could trade your friend's Pokemon to your game, and without a nickname there would no proof that you took it.

A Pokémon's nickname is a reflection of the OT who nicknamed it/him/her. So if you have a Blissey nicknamed "Obesity", the OT either had a sick sense of humor, or was completely stupid.
Well, I wouldn't be as bold to say a "sick" sense of humor. It's a game. They don't take it as seriously. Stupid sense of humor, maybe. Immature would be a better word.
And since it's not your Pokémon, you have no right to give it/him/her a new nickname.
Not my pokemon? No right? It's a game! Not real life. Just bits of data. I enjoy nicknaming my pokes. When I got a great Miltank from Samson, I was upset to realize I couldn't rename it, as it was on my original team.
In that case, you should really tell Ninty that, and there's also no need to exaggerate.
She wasn't really exaggerating. That's something that eats up at a person.

Besides, not everyone likes breeding. Or is able too. That Miltank I have has Ice Punch.I can't pass that off in breeding. & They shouldn't have to breed. They paid their 30-something dollars just like everyone else.
Aww I think you're all over reacting. The fact that you can actually trade with people around the world makes up for the fact that you can't nickname the pokemon.
Not at all. That wasn't a great feature- it's one that they NEEDED to add. They dang well better give us wifi. Or else it isn't really worth buying. And this isn't a hard feature to make, renaming traded pokes. It was just an oversight.
As an example, if you adopted a child and didn't like its name would you call it pete?
