Yeah, the old thread. I'd advise you all to watch what you say, state your opinions about the anime, and nothing else, really. No need to bash, flamebait or anything. And I know people have common sense these days so that won't happen, right? :D

And this directly goes to the Naruto fans, please calm down if someone states their opinion about the anime's plot and everything. No need to bash, just state your dang opinion and move on.

And the same goes for you, DBZ fans.

Alrighty...

As for me, I have no opinion. If I had one, it'd be DBZ. Currently...eh I dunno.

I'll choose Naruto just because I've never fully watched an episode of DBZ.
Silly me. xD

I like them both. DBZ has cool fights and villains and stuff, plus the special feeling I get by watching/reading (manga..) it is awesome.
But Naruto's got better characters, better powers, better story. I'm relatively new to it, but I'll soon get married to... anyone from Naruto!

But.... can't choose, since I would feel like I failed DB if I chose Naruto ^^'

Naruto always has and always will pall in comparison with DBZ. While DBZ isn't the best anime ever, it had fun characters, interesting arcs and great fighting attached to it. Naruto is an okay show, but it's plot, and especially recently, has been really lacking and more focused on Sasuke.

Naruto without a doubt. DBZ is o. k. but after watching several episodes that practically nothing the whole time, I grew bored. Plus, in my opinion, Naruto has way cooler characters.

DBZ. Naruto bores the hell out of me. :\ I watched the first 16 episodes and got up to... I dunno where in the manga but I didn't care about the characters at all. If I were to sit down and watch a DBZ episode, though? I'd be hit with all sorts of nostalgia from my childhood that would make me want to watch more. Not only that, but I agree with Jorfe. Even if DBZ was always made fun of for taking forever to get anywhere, the arcs were still interesting, I liked the characters, and it was just... better, in my opinion.

I also say Naruto definitely over DBZ, but I reccomend the manga rather than the anime for either. But BLEACH may trump both in my opinion.

Sorry- no offence to DBZ fans, but this is my experience of DBZ anime:

Go-Fish: "Oh no! It's some big, ugly enemy that we have no chance of beating! What should we do?"
Random Friend of Go-blah: "I know! Lets fill up episodes by running around collecting the dragonballs from the last series!"
"Good idea! Let's also train non-stop for 10 episodes and only improve marginally as well!"

.......towards the end of the series......

"Okay, meanwhile the ugly guy has destroyed half the world's population, now what?"
"We have a battle with him until there is only me left to fight because you're all dead or knocked out, of course! Didn't you learn that from the last 20 series?"

...now the fight finally begins and the good guys get pummeled as always...

"But wait! I'll just upgrade to the next level of glowy aura, spiky blonde hair muscle guy!"

...does exactly that, still can't win...

"Now the only way to beat him is to charge a giant energy ball attack thing for five whole episodes, whilst random onlookers make obvious comments in their heads! I just hope I don't get attacked while I'm venerable!"

...which he obviously doesn't...

Big bang, enemy dead (not really, he'll come back in another series), revive everyone with the wish things from the dragonballs, dragonballs get scattered again, repeat process from the beginning but with a new enemy and call it another series.

Can you tell I don't like DBZ?

Sorry, I got a bit carried away there, the DBZ manga is actually supposed to be good quality, so no offence to that. I've noticed the Naruto Shipuuden episodes are getting just as bad with the annoying pointless time wasting, and filler episodes on any anime are the worst, so I'm not being completely biased. The dubbing is especially bad for the UK as nearly all of the good blood baths, swear words and adult themes are replaced with annoying and childish jokes and even worse voice acting. I know it's much better in Japan and America.

So the moral of the story is....... don't watch the watered-down anime (especially DBZ) if you have the option to read the manga instead.

I actually obsess over both equally... though I'm more of a Dragonball(the original) fan than a DBZ fan. I can tell because I have an equal number of doujinshi for each series.

I grew up with DB/Z/GT so, despite it repetative, stoic characters and plot, I still consider myself a huge fan of it and Toriyama(I love his other manga like Go! Go! Akman, Cowa, Dr Slump, Sandland, Pink, etc) I lost interest in it over the years but not my OTP(beware I'm a Trunks x Pan fan)

Naruto has grown on me and I like the way the characters develop. It has a few shonen cliches but hey, what doesn't? It's fanbase scares the hell outta me but it's one of my favorites right now and it keeps me entertained.

I would have to say Naruto is the better of the two but DB has a nice classic feel to it.

Elfen Lied doesn't. Unless you'd consider "long lost past" to be a shonen cliché.

I'd have to say DBZ. I watched it when I was little, didn't see much though.
Naruto is often "everywhere" if you get what I mean, and is simply the sort of thing I'm not into, so I'm not fond of it.

That's good to know(I'm looking for something new to see)

It's hard to get around them because many manga-ka are inspired by other manga-ka. In fact Akira Toriyama inspired the creator of Naruto(and One Piece, Bobobo, Bleach, etc)

DBZ for sure, I hate Naruto.

DBZ. As Lightning said, it brings back all sorts of nostalgia when I watch it. Plus, Android 18 is one of the best characters ever. And the Cell Saga is glorious in every way possible. I'll admit it lost it's touch in the end, but it was still awesome. Naruto, eh, I never got into it.

I think the Naruto fanbase ruins it a bit. The fanboys are always raving abut how much better it is than all the other Shonen anime. Personally I like Bleach and Yu Yu Hakusho more than both of them put together :P

I absolutely LOVE both of these series. DBZ has such a fun cast and the enemies are so unique. I prefer Naruto's character cast though, and I think the overall storyline is simply superior.

I choose Naruto over DBZ. Even though I enjoy both, I never got the chance to get into DBZ too much. Naruto might not be that great of a shonen for some people, it keeps me entertained, so I'll go for it.

I picked Naruto only because theres still a chance for it to improve, while DBZ is done and finished. DBZ was my entire childhood and the only motivator for me to finish my homework before 5:30. Plus, when Naruto was first shipped over to Toonami, it was hailed as 'the next DBZ'. But nonetheless, I chose the blone, foxkid over the guy whose hair can't get any blonder.

xD; Well, of course DBZ is repetitive. But it's what I grew up on. I LOVED DBZ like no other. Naruto, I USED to like...when I was twelve. DBZ, for me, at least, is timeless, whereas I now detest Naruto. I got up to some written exam and got insanely bored. -_-;;

I'd have to go with DBZ because I have grown up watching it and often imagine if only the stuff on it would come true.

As for Naruto, I still say that it is a lame remake of DBZ, No offense.
with the auras and some powers, I say that it practically a copy.

it's a tie for me. niether are my favorite anime, but i don't hate either. naruto used to be better than DBZ, but they've put too much focus on friggin' sasuke lately, so my opinion of it has degraded slightly.

100% truth

I dunno,I tried to watch Naruto but found it dull and just bad, whereas I grew up with Dragonball and Dragonball Z. Besides, the dub of DBZ had such an ace soundtrack!

well back in the day when DBZ was on A LOT, it was my favorite anime to watch after Sailor moon and Pokemon. Even being a young girl then, the show was amusing to me. I've rewatched some of the series, and I do like it...though I find Naruto a better watch personally.

All in all there both great shows...but I perfer Naruto.

Yes, I do like Naruto, but as with some other people here, I grew up with DBZ. I once loved DBZ, and quite possibly still love it, maybe just not as much. I remember the time in my childhood when I would run about and pretend to do a Kamehameha. I remember singing to the opening song every time it showed on TV, just because it was super catchy. I remember all the times my brother complained when the bad guy wouldn't just die. Of course, it isn't one of the best anime, but it's the one I have a ton of memories with. Also, I have tried several times to get into the Naruto anime, but I always just give up at the end.

Well, In my opinion I really do love the Dragon Ball Series and all of Akira's Made animes Like his Recent one Blue Dragon. That's awesome; But, Naruto is awesome as well but it's just one thing that puzzles me... How can a ninja wear orange.?

((Sudden Copy paste of my own post! D=))

But, What if it were more realistic like during the chunin Exams some die during the exam they should've made a few background characters to die D= Besides that pale skinned creepy lady Orochimaru killed.

I like them both sweeties, but I have to say DBZ for one reason:

If it weren't DBZ, we wouldn't have Naruto.

February 20th, 2008, 09:00 PM
o-o Exactly.. @ Jeremy's post.

Takahashi was a DBZ fan, and alot of Naruto's ideas were based off of DBZ.. so I thank DBZ for Naruto. x3 I really like both.

Now days I'm definatly more into Naruto, but I still like DBZ, and it was a big part of my life when I was younger.
Stiil, because of that, DBZ got my vote. <3

neither.

dragonball was fun, but DBZ only focused on the battles, which took too much episodes. and there is a limit on how many times you can let people die and revive them people...

while the battles in Naruto don't drag along that much, I simply lost interest after a while. the plot became to predictable for me, I never felt like "I want to know what comes next" so I stopped watching it.
