I was shocked when I read this today http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2008-01-09/newtype-usa-to-cease-publication
I mean, I found Newtype to be overpriced for what they offered, but a good magazine none the less. The question I guess now is what is going to be its replacement.

Somehow, I think I'll manage.
With a newsstand price of $12.98 American and $16.98 Canadian, I'm surprised Newtype USA made it five years before ADV finally decided to cut its losses and cease publication.

I can't say I'm too concerned, with the way it's basically become a corporate suck-up magazine, a revamp could help it. I would love for it to become something like Otaku USA, but I don't see that drastic of a change. Visually it was a nice magazine, but content wise it sucked.
I guess this could also prove my belief that the anime field is in trouble in the US, first GENEON's trouble, then ADV more or less admitting that they're cutting extras from DVDs to save money and now this.

Wow, I am not surprised though. Because that was the most expensive magazine I ever seen. At first it was about $9.99, which to me wasn't that bad since it was a great magazine. I could spend that much. So I got a few issues when it was that price. But then they bring the price up to $12.98...I stop buying them. I would get them if they had some articles that I want to read. I was thinking about getting a subscription too. Since it was a little cheaper. Thank goodness I didn't do that.
Well I hope their newest magazine will be get off the ground and be as good as NewType USA.

Its replacement, PiQ. Not really sure what to think.
