Hi there, Wichu. I was just wondering whether you've done any more work on the project? It just seems as though you've hit a wall in your progress, or we'd be getting updates ;_;

Wichu
September 2nd, 2008, 11:51 AM
I have been working on it, but just not updating for some reason :S

Well, if you want to know what I've been up to:

It's not the tileset - if you look in the Screenshot Showcase thread, I've beenusing those tiles for a few months.
The hero sprite hasn't changed either.

I know~

The screen size has been changed!

Wichu
September 2nd, 2008, 08:29 PM
I did change the tileset slightly - the new flowers and sand tiles haven't been shown before.

But the main change, as shinylugia249 and Lorem Ipsum noticed, is that I've increased the resolution. This was because I felt some of the screens were becoming too cluttered, and I was running out of space, especially on the Trainer Memo page of the Summary screen. Advance-style sprites are staying, though. But all of them will be recoloured :O

Expect screens tomorrow (and possibly some details on the story)! :D
I'm going to try and renovate the first post next weekend.

The new screenshot looks pretty good. The only thing I would say is that I'm really not sure if the character is in the center of the screen or if it's just me. Notice how you can see like half the grass.

More screens, this time of the Summary screen in the new DS resolution.
http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj197/projectamethyst/Screenshots/Screenshot135.pnghttp://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj197/projectamethyst/Screenshots/Screenshot136.pnghttp://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj197/projectamethyst/Screenshots/Screenshot137.pnghttp://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj197/projectamethyst/Screenshots/Screenshot138.pnghttp://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj197/projectamethyst/Screenshots/Screenshot139.png
Not the most exciting screens, but they do have new graphics. New Axolitl sprite, too :D
I also added a few things to the trainer memo - the capture details and a small notes section. In this, you can give each of your Pokémon a comment - useful for all kinds of things ;)
I'm not sure what I should have in the purple bit on the left, though. Any suggestions?

Also, here's the new Trainer Card.
http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj197/projectamethyst/Screenshots/Screenshot140.pnghttp://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj197/projectamethyst/Screenshots/Screenshot141.png
The reverse is similar to the trainer cards you see on the internet. I'm planning on adding the Pokémon's levels and gender. There's a small bug where the starter Pokémon doesn't register on the Pokédex, hence only having one Pokémon caught on the front. It's easily fixed, though.
Dipleaf's head has been changed, too.

Finally, here's an animation of the new menu system.
http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj197/projectamethyst/Animations/Menu.gif
Left and right to switch the selected option, and up and down to switch your team order. Rather simple controls :P

Neo-Dragon

The new tiles look amazing. The tiles all look really well together.
The DS Resolution is better I think. The simpler controls to the menu will make things much quick to get done. Good job Wichu. This project is one of my favs on the board. I like your scripting skills, and how your trying to use your own ideas rather then take someone elses.

With the tiles, I tried to emulate Kyledove's style, as I think it's one of the more distinct styles. I didn't want to use his own tiles, as a lot of games are using them, so I made some myself.

I also forgot to mention that the menu icons are placeholders until I make some specifically for it. That's why there's multiple Pokéball ones and why they don't match.

Finally, I get the feeling someone's rated my thread 1 star recently :(
Actually, it could be that two people rated it 3 stars, but that's not very satisfying either.

From now, if you rate the thread, please tell me how I could improve, unless you think it's perfect (which it isn't).

Sweeeet. I like it. Oh and the bottom hmm i have an idea. You could add a family tree. You know if a breeder you could have that little addition to make it more fun. Or a rareness/preciousness meter. Say its gotten through 8 gyms a master rank contest is shiny-reverse skinned and won the E4. It would have a rareness/preciousness/rank of elite pokemon. It is prized by its trainer mitch. It has been with him from the start and helped him through many obstacles.
Good idea eh?

Wichu
September 3rd, 2008, 08:41 PM
~link smash~: Keep in mind that it has to fit; good luck squeezing a family tree into there! It should be something simple. Actually, that gives me an idea - the item it's holding fills it perfectly (even though that's already on the first page of the Summary screen).

Thanks for the support!
A few posts above this, I asked people rating the thread to give ways in which I could improve. You haven't been doing that!
Especially the person who just gave it 4. What should I improve to bring it up to a 5? It doesn't help if you rate it without saying why you gave it that score...

Well i don't know if this improves the game or not but you know when you catch a pokemon and it shows there profile right after you catch it how about it shows also in the corner what moves they know i got that idea from pokemon diamond and pearl when paul always used his pokedex after he catches a pokemon to see whattype of moves they got but it's just a suggestion though.

Yayyys. I really like those screens. The resolution is much better. Although, about the trainer card, if you're using the advanced sprites, the card looks very empty to the right. The new menu looks great as well (although, I prefer the old one better ^__^;;). Are you just working on getting the games system working right now, or have you started on the story? Can't wait for the next update!

thats actually a great idea because it gets annoying catching pokemon and its not what you want(stats, nature, characteristic) and you can release it right away if its not, another feature that would go with that.

It's not Wichu's evo, it's a new sprite of it. The evo looks more different.

Screenshots are going back up later today.

I did think of something to put there - the Pokémon's form. For example, Burmy and Deoxys will be making use of it. For happiness, I think the background colour could change - that way it seems more natural. You can't measure happiness with numbers in real life, can you?

Anyway, now I have a new thread, I should make myself a new signature.

Mitchman Is
September 8th, 2008, 08:12 AM
I know you cant in numbers. I mean like put a heart there and have it filled slowly with all the love of your pokemon for you. And if its full then that pokemon loves you forever. Unless you start rare candying it then your love goes . But the form thing is nice. I mean it could have ini sprites of whatever form it has and highlights the one its in now right?Aha ok i took it as an evo. I like it better.

SethCullen: It's not a ROM hack, so you don't need VBA to play it.

Anyway, I've updated the Pokémon section in the first post. Argaze, a Pokémon which was revealed in the thread but never added to the first post, has been added.

I've added the new sprites for each of the Pokémon. Also, I've updated the information for each Pokémon. The Pokémon 'kind' has been added, and the descriptions have been changed to the official Pokédex descriptions.

You can easily just go to Serebii.net for that kind of stuff, so I don't think Wichu would need any help with that. Besides, I think Wichu already has all the information on the new Pokemon forms stats. Based on Screenshots I saw in Pokemon Essentials thread.

Eric: I don't really need anything right now. However, I'm planning to get permission to use the CAPs, so you could try making their in-game stats such as growth rate, egg steps etc.
Destined: He meant the new Pokémon I (and a few others) have designed. Or as a lot of people call them, the Fakemon.
Emerald Ex: What exactly about the sprites needs tweaking? Artists aren't usually good at criticising their own work, so I don't know what needs improving...

Oh, sorry for not going more in depth before. Despite being somewhat of a pixel artist myself I find it hard to pin-point exactly what's wrong.

Some of them (Bushby, Dipleaf, Ignicub) lack that certain Pokemon flare, and are far too generic. Ignicub for example looks like like a bear cub on fire, whereas it should be more stylized.

Dithering is often used in unusual places, such as the body and head of Dipleaf.

Others just need the lineart fixed up a bit, which is what I meant in the first place.

Sorry, they're still very good sprites, but there's always room for improvement. :)
I'm rather partial to Axolitl actually, he looks cool.

This honestly is one of the most creative game ideas i have seen in a long time. The Shadow beasts and the three tribes, amazing concept. Just a random question, is the life giver mew? just wondering. Moving on, below you will find some of my examples of work.

Anyway, i am willing to help you with anything you need, as long as its in my talent range lol. I can do ideas, semi decent sprites, and i am working on a custom tileset that is a mixture of DPP tiles (fixed to be 2D) FRLG/RSE, and complte custom. If you would like to use it, just say so. I see you have an amazing tileset already thogh lol. I also am a semi-good artist when it comes to Item sprites, so if you would like to see some of them, just say so. I did revamps of the slowpoketail and the gold and silver leaves from GSC if you want to use them. As long as i get some form of credit, im ok with it.

Another point, i am also currently trying to become a better drawer, and im alright at drawing anime characters if you need first form characeters designed. And by first form i mean a semi-decent sketch, which you can revamp later. Another skill i posess is the skill to find things over the internet, and in my files of saved documents. If you are looking for a certain sprite, say a DP trainer or sometihng, i have those as well. Also, i am pretty good at organizing things into grids (like a fakemon or trainer grid perhaps)

Some of my work:
http://img399.imageshack.us/img399/660/picture005at7.jpg
First off, i have some badges i drew for my old region. Do not use these, as they are not my design, they are a revamp of a design submitted to my region.

http://img214.imageshack.us/img214/5466/itemdexgd3.png
http://img214.imageshack.us/img214/5466/itemdexgd3.png
Two grids that i arranged for fakemon and items. Do not use any fakemon in the grid.

http://img90.imageshack.us/img90/9589/brockyh2.png
A DP sprite i did of Brock. As you can see, i am not the best trainer artist ever, but i put full effort into it. You may use this sprite if needed, but i dont see how it would be needed lol.

http://img366.imageshack.us/img366/1933/owszs6.png
Some DP OW's. I see your not useing DP Ows so just ignore these.

http://img140.imageshack.us/img140/7018/alberotownej3.png
http://img140.imageshack.us/img140/3244/riovilletz5.png
http://img140.imageshack.us/img140/9655/moderavillageve1.png
http://img140.imageshack.us/img140/9515/route231dg2.png
Some Maps i put together for my old region.

http://img386.imageshack.us/img386/9392/typebarsfm4.png
Custom Type Bars- I made these for myself, but you may use these if you wish. Please make sure i get credi if you do.

http://img386.imageshack.us/img386/1600/itemsiu6.png
Some of my items. Some are custom, and some are from concepts from GSC and XD/Collesseum. The regular pokeball is just a recolor, because i dont like the orange they use in the games. You may use any of these as you wish, again if i get credit.

So, as i said, this is an amazing concept, and please dont lose interest in it. That would be a tradegy if this peject died. Lastly, i would like to apologize for the length of my post, i just want to help ^-^'

Spriter: The type icons look pretty cool. Would you mind if I used them, and made similar ones for physical/special/other? Also, you posted the items grid twice, and missed out the Pokémon one...
Darkwiz: It's just that I dislike the style of the D/P sprites - the outlines, colours, shading... Besides, with the smaller Advance sprites, I have more room to put other stuff in.

September 19th, 2008, 12:58 PM
How do you think I should improve it? I admit, it's not the best, but I can't really make out why...

Oh, and I added Lmayonaise to the staff list. He's helping out with designs, and has also kindly volunteered to do some Sugimori art of the starters.

Well wichu Dipleaf is not really bad sprited the only thing is you said it's a seed dino pokemon.
His head is not really dinosaur like, it's more alien haha, if you would change the sprites you should add different eyes to it, further from that maybe slow down with the dithering.
I have to say that the first Ignicub was better then the one you have now, because of the head, it's nose is abit weird compared to the other one.
Thats all I have to say about your sprites, I really think you're a great spriter so :)
Succes with everything.

Lmayonaise here, got some refinements of the starters as they lacked something.

And that something is VERY important to a pokeymon design!

DIPLEAF: grass starter, based off diprotodon or whatever it is. incorporating the quadraped presentation in dipleaf.
Design characteristics: they have blue fruit juices in their bodies and the blue areas signilise where they are excreted.

Fire bear starter. just a redesign refinement. Design characteristics: they unintentionally cause forest fires due to their ever flaming hands. the neck fur is actually flammable.

Water starter; ave to be careful that it's not like Wooper or Mudkip, since theyre both based o nthe same thing as this. Characteristics: it prefers to swim out in lakes when there is thunderstorms and likes to conduct electricity to its horn things.

i'll have more stuff next week.

Well excuse me! Its just kind of what you call it, unless you are an uber-nerd. It is a hack, but yes it is also an original game. So get over yourself if you think that it isn't a hack. What are you doing to get the main basis for the game? Hacking an official game!!!! Not that it's a bad thing, don't get me wrong, but don't go so far as to say its completely original.

This is not a hack! A hack is basically just chaging a rom, while this is a a game made completely from scratch using rpg maker xp. If it was a hack then it would be in the hack showcase.

It is completely original, he is NOT using any official game created by Nintendo as a base, he is creating the systems, not piggybacking on some other's hard work, how come you people can't grasp that fact!? Did you even look at the section you were posting in? It clearly says: 'This forum is not for ROM-Hacks or things related to them!'... so you should look before you post...

Anyways, Wichu it's looking as great as always!

Well he is using the starter kit, right, so it's not all his work.

But it's original work nonetheless and it is not a hack at all.

In NO way is this a hack, because he uses RPG maker XP and starts FROM SCRATCH not using Nintendo's games as a base.

Wichu
September 25th, 2008, 06:20 AM
Yeah, I made it at school around 2 years ago. :P

Unfortunately, it's not for sale, and I'm not planning to make another.

Thorn: As I said, take your argument out of this thread. Just search "download rpg maker xp" on Google, or go to the official website (http://tkool.jp/products/rpgxp/eng/). As for the banner, I made it with Paint.NET and Photshop (for the text). Paint.NET is free, and is downloadable at GetPaint.NET (http://www.getpaint.net). Play around with gradients and transparency, and you'll eventually get something that looks good.

Grow a spine thorn. SO Wichu, I don't really completely understand - what does Amythest have that makes it differ to Acanthite and Titanium and Iron? I just feel like I need more clarification there.

Wichu
September 26th, 2008, 04:43 PM
I have a request. Could everyone please spell Amethyst correctly? It really bugs me when you don't...

Anyway, there's quite a few differences between this and Acanthite or T/I.

Whereas Acanthite is focusing on new Pokémon designs and story, Amethyst has a bigger focus on new features. Of course, I'm not completely abandoning the story and designing Pokémon, as you've probably realized by now. I haven't seen many other games where the developers have put a lot of work into new features. Obviously, some do, but not all, which is rather disappointing... Also, whereas Acanthite is aimed at exploring Kamon's backstory, Amethyst is more like a traditional Pokémon game with new heroes, and a new story. This doesn't mean no characters from previous games will appear, though...

As for T/I, I can't really tell what its main strength is... Having a full Pokédex isn't really necessary, since the majority of it probably won't even be in the demo. No offense to them, but some of their Pokémon don't look so good either. It claims to have a few new features, but I haven't actually seen any of their implementations. Also, T/I are two versions, while Amethyst is just one. Frankly, I didn't see the point in having two slightly different versions, since I'm not trying to make money from it. It would just be extra work for me, and annoying for players.

Besides, aren't you a staff member? Why did you choose to help Amethyst, and not T/I? There must be some reason other than Fangking recommending it...

I asked as I felt like I wasn't really told more about it, and have been intrigued about it. Unfortunately, that's on your behalf with lack of communicating with would-be staff members.

I do agree with T/I not having strong designs, but Amethyst doesn't have strong designs either, the starters are of a quality that arn't that imaginative. The concept of Dipleaf is somewhat already used for Chikorita's line, (long-necked dinosaurs). The fire bear is a good idea, just it has to not look like a real life bear cub with fire popping out of it, some creativity has to come to it which is why I presented my design. If it's the eyes that "scares" everyone then I'll modify them, problem solved. The water starter is based on a concept that is ALREADY been used by Gamefreak not once, but TWICE. Wooper and the Mudkip line, a pretty unoriginal and lackluster effort and designing a starter in my opinion. The Aipom pre-evolution is unnecessary, due to Aipom's size being quite small and I believe that space could be used to a better candidate for a pre-evolution. The Chatot evolution is a concept somewhat overused, and you've been able to present a really decent design, so I'll give you that.

I'm not having general biasity towards anything, but the time I've been with Acanthite (25 months) has helped me explore and better myself as a designer generally, and I have brought so much to the project that sets itself as being the best product on the Pokémon fan game line. I came to you, as I believed Amythest had potential, seeing the custom work but I wasn't too sure if there was beyond custom menus..because that isn't much. Custom menus won't save a bad Pokédex. Custom menus won't save a repititious product.

So I dunno, if I'm going to be a staff member of your team, I'm going to need better communication from you, because I'm not a mind reader and you'll need to be upfront and consider things to make the project the best it can be and IN the same league as Acanthite, because it has so much potential.

That is all.

few suggestions to make this game better than the games nintendo released...somehow please have pokemon learn more than 4 moves when they get to a higher level...like 5 moves at level 60...make it like the anime where pokemon can learn more than 4 moves...

gym leaders- try to have gym leaders randomly choose from around 20 of the same type pokemon when they battle the trainer. obviously it would be the same type but make them have different moves etc and it could be challenging for those who lose.

pokemon league- if you are implenting this feature which would be fantastic again try to make all sort of trainers and the comptuer randomly picks them if you can....

if your having elite 4 again please do the same to make it difficult

also try to change some of the moves- eg seisomic toss(spelling??) instead of it doing the same damage as the level of the pokemon it should be much stronger as we seen in the anime...link it to the basic attack of a pokemon or give it a base power at least

CoN~
October 4th, 2008, 11:15 AM
The reason some of those things are the way they are is because of balance and to make the game actually work.

Take out the 4 move limit, and you have Pokemon with extremely good type coverage.
Make Seismic Toss have a base power, and it's just another generic fighting move.

But eh, not like it's my choice.

Wichu
October 4th, 2008, 11:15 AM
The four move limit is staying. If you could have more than four moves, it would make some Pokémon nearly impossible to beat.
Gym Leaders will still use a set team. However, there will be ways to rematch Gym Leaders with stronger Pokémon. Also, the Gym Leaders' Pokémon will be stronger than those of ordinary trainers, not only in level, but also their stats.
Elite 4 are staying too. Again, their Pokémon will be a lot stronger to make it challenging. On the real games, you can beat the Elite 4 with low leveled Pokémon; here, you won't be able to.
Seismic Toss and the majority of old moves are keeping their effects. If I changed Seismic Toss, Blissey wouldn't have a reliable attacking move :P

Anyway, I've been making some new tiles, and therefore have finally progressed with mapping :D

I love the way this project is looking and going. I have a few questions about some things that other pokemon generations have had.

1)Will this game have new eeveelutions? If so can you say the types?
2)Can there be another ninja pokemon? They usually make the game very good by themselves.
3)Is there a way to battle other people who are playing this game? I know there are existing programs to battle but they don't have these new pokemon. Hopefully there will be a way to battle ingame.

Yes to all plz.

Wichu
October 10th, 2008, 07:09 AM
1. Nope, no new Eeveelutions. I don't currently have plans for Eevee to be obtainable, anyway.
2. Again, no plans for ninja Pokémon. Sorry! You'll be able to catch Nincada and Ninjask eventually, though.
3. No link battles at the moment. However, they will definitely be in the second or third release.

Anyway, some bad news. Lmayonaise has left the team for personal reasons. This means I am looking for a new Sugimori artist! If you are interested, please PM me with an example of your work. As with other staff, you will get a Mystery Gift, and also, you will get to see Pokémon before anyone else! Of course, as with any other staff position, I am only looking for top-quality artists, so brush up on those skills!

EDIT: No-one? Well, I guess I should give it a go, then. Expect Sugimori art of the starters sometime tomorrow!

EDIT 2: Just to clarify, I'm doing the art myself, so no longer need an artist. Sorry about that if you were interested!

It takes me about an hour and a half in total. Half an hour to draw and scan the lineart, then another hour to colour it.
I used this tutorial (http://yayster.deviantart.com/art/Pokemon-Art-Style-Tutorial-30134365). You need Photoshop to do it properly, although it should be possible on some free alternatives, such as the GIMP.
Anyway, Ignicub is finished. Again, it's been redesigned slightly.

Very nice Sugimori art! Dipleaf looks quite nice, and I'm especially loving Ignicub's redesign! Axolitl is as cool as usual, although I agree that there is something a little off about that particular piece of art - I think it might have something to do with the position, or the proportions of it. amazing your first 2 starters, seriously they look like real pokemon that can be used in the anime in the future.

your third starter, not sure, dont know why but the drawing is fine but the colours and just how it looks isnt good to me. i may be wrong but something is wrong with it. it didnt give me the same 5 star feel the first 2 starters gave me

since you asked for ideas, these may be crapp but your last starter perhaps could have two different evolutions routes

Axolitl Type: Water
Amphibian Pokémon
A Pokémon that can survive both on land and in the water. It prefers freshwater to saltwater, since the water in its body will start to diffuse out in saltwater.

perhaps 1 being a more land based with it growing legs in the evo? and being a part fighting type

and the other being a more swimmer based like a lapras type since it can survive on both water and land? this one being a part ice type?

The Sugimori-styled art is very professional, Wichu. Good job. I like the coloring a lot, too.
Dipleaf is practically perfect in my opinion, Ignicub looks a little weird, and Axolitl is great.

Oh, and I'm having a little trouble with your outline; it looks weird. I can slightly see the aliasing on the outline/edges of your art. I wasn't able to see that, they would be perfect.

I like how this project progresses quite quickly. Good luck, Wichu.

This has already been said, but I'll say it anyway because it's sort of rare for me to be impressed by this kind of thing.

This game looks fantastic. You're a wonderful artist, you seem very creative (I love the starters), and if you're as good at scripting as you are at spriting this just might be better than some of the recent gamefreak releases (which were good, but not up to snuff if you ask me). I'd love to beta for you, if you're still looking for testers? If not, I'm still looking forward to the eventual release.

Keep at it, it really looks great.

Wichu
October 24th, 2008, 06:58 PM
if you're as good at scripting as you are at spriting
I may well be... ;) You'll see once you get to play it.
At the moment, I'm not looking for beta testers. The beta versions will only be available to staff and a few select individuals; i.e. a closed beta.
However, I will hold a competition to get the first release a few days early. I'm not going to give much away, other than that everyone who enters will get it at least one day early, and you must have a copy of Diamond, Pearl or Platinum to participate - being able to download fangames for free isn't an excuse to not buy the official games! It shouldn't be too hard to guess what it is :P

Anyway, a small update, this time on TMs. You might be wondering how the new moves will fit in; here's your answer.
In the region of Shika, there are 50 TMs. These include many new moves, as well as some of the TMs from Diamond and Pearl. Some more official moves will also become TMs. However, this list doesn't include favourites such as Ice Beam and Earthquake. But before you become too disappointed...
The 50 Hoenn TMs are making a welcome return! Due to Shika being near to Hoenn, many trainers choose to import TMs from there. As usual, these end up scattered on the ground (somehow) for you to pick them up. Some are also sold by Paraben Corporation, Shika's equivalent to Silph and Devon.
Finally, a mysterious new type of TM has appeared recently. Only the toughest trainers can manage to obtain them. Due to them being so new and hard to find, they do not appear in Poké Marts; they can only be found in hard-to-reach or hidden areas. Basically, you will have to search really hard. They are known as Frontier Technical Machines, or FTMs for short. As for the moves they contain, some may surprise you! Half of them have already appeared as well-known TMs in official games (obviously excluding 3rd gen TMs), while the other half are moves which have never been TMs before! The FTMs have the most diverse assortment of moves ever (there's 60 of them), with many of them having rare and unique effects. But not only their effects are diverse; they also wildly vary in usefulness, from as pointless as Defense Curl to as awesome as Double-Edge (both originally from R/B/Y)! In short, they're hard to get for a reason; only true masters will be able to use them properly...
As with the recent official games, there are 8 HMs, one for each badge. Two of these are new, replacing Flash/Defog and Dive/Rock Climb. But what do they do? You'll have to find out when you play it...

Whoah, I sounded like a real Nintendo advertisement there... If TMs were real, I could have put that on TV! :P
Anyway, discuss!

EDIT: How could I forget the HMs? :S

Ah. Not having Wi-fi could be a problem... If you don't, you're not missing out on much, since it's just getting Amethyst a few days early; you'll still get to play it.
And no, it won't be a tournament, unless there's enough people interested (at least 16). If there are more than 16, a tournament will decide who gets through to the next round.
Or I might just make it first come, first served, which would be a lot easier.
Anyway, I'm not giving anything else away, so start discussing the other part of the update already!

(That's probably why I don't really like Fake Pokemon, because they don't look like they could be real.) Will you be able to revisit Jhoto and/or Kanto since this game starts at route 47?

Looks like it will be a really good game, hope it gets finished.

It probably won't actually, since I still have quite a lot of work left to do. However, I will try and get out a demo early next year.

Will you be able to revisit Jhoto and/or Kanto since this game starts at route 47?
Originally, I had planned to include all the regions. Don't hate me for this, but I'm not going to anymore. Why? There are already several games with all regions (Infinite Rainbow, HoF etc). Also, it would take me forever to map and event each region. I haven't changed the route names yet; however, if people don't like the current method, I'll change it.

I have a MIDI music sequence I made if you are still looking for some music.
Could you PM it to me? And is this an offer to be a musician? :O

What kind of Tournament will it be? Will you be able to use any Pokemon or Normal Real Life Tournament rules (no ubers).
I never said it will be a tournament... I just said you need D/P/Pt and a Wi-fi connection. I haven't decided on the rules yet.

I can't seem to find any examples of your work, so would you mind PMing me some?
Also, I should make a list of finished ones. Off the top of my head (or the ones I've done myself and a few others):
Shinx, Luxio, Ambipom, Chatot, Snover, Abomasnow, Garchomp

Anyway, as for the update, here we go!

I've finished the battle interface; it's done in a pseudo-D/P/Pt style. Since I only have one screen to work with, the buttons fade when not selected. There's probably a few things I still need to tweak; for example, I'll probably lower the opacity of the Poké Ball icons.
It uses similar controls to D/P/Pt, obviously minus touch screen functions. I slightly changed it to be a bit easier to use; while Fight is selected, to go to Item or Pokémon, you can just press left or right instead of having to press down first.
Screenshots:

http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj197/projectamethyst/Screenshots/Screenshot168.pnghttp://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj197/projectamethyst/Screenshots/Screenshot169.png
The Fight menu. The moves rearrange themselves as you learn more; a single move will be in the middle, while all 4 will look more like D/P/Pt.
Also, I've changed the box at the bottom to show information on the move. Power and Acc. are self-explanatory; I need to fix the bug where Charge has 0 in both, when it should have ---. The line above is the description of the move you can see in the summary. It scrolls along while the move is selected so you can read all of it. When you switch moves, it resets back to the start of the description.

So, what do you think? Anything I could improve on that I haven't covered already?

: o It's overall a very nice idea, however as ~element said, it is a tad disorganized. Hmm, what about dimming out the battle screen a little bit when the option buttons come up? Like... Maybe a black screen with an opacity over it, to make it a little less distracting, while still low enough for you to see the field, but not be too drawn away from the available choices...

Only suggestions :p Otherwise, it's a really clever idea~

By the way, are you looking for the D/P/P platforms for the Pokemon, or are you happy with the ones you're using right now?

In any case, loving Amethyst, 'cept you need to show us more XD;

Wow...

That is so amazingly awesome, though I think the buttons do stand out a little too much when not in use, so maybe lower the opacity a tad. Otherwise they are simply amazing.

Great update you have there.
For my opinion of the battle interface, it don't match for the battle field y'know.
The graphics look really impressive.
Those choice box looks too big for the screen.
I can't really explain, but I do like the older version.
That's my opinion, no offense^^

Whoa, now that is to die for! :D
I also love under the HP bar, how much health percentage is left. That's pretty useful. ;)
Can't wait to see some more updates Wichu! ^^
Good Luck~

The new battle interface is a good idea, but a bad execution. For one, the screen becomes way too cluttered, as others have said, when the options appear. If you were to quickly fade the screen into the battle options, that could fix that. Secondly, the Diamond/Pearl command boxes should be replaced by custom ones that easily fit with the theme. Though I have not seen a video of the battle scene in action, making sure the scrolling speed for the text box is perfect is critical.

Anyway, as I said, it is a very good idea, but it needs quite a few tweaks to make it usable.

Alistair: The D/P graphics were originally going to be placeholders, so I see why you say that. I'm not very good at designing graphics, but I'll give it a shot. What kind of graphics should I use? A glass effect, like the message box? And is it both the command menu and fight menu buttons I should replace?
I'm not sure if I'll be able to work on it today, but thanks to your responses, here's the tweaks I'll make:
-Replace the graphics of the buttons.
-Darken the battle scene while the menus are being shown.
-Smooth fade-ins and fade-outs when showing, switching and hiding the buttons.
-While Z is held when on a menu, the field view returns to normal; when it's released, the buttons appear again. If the field is darkened and partially obscured, it would be good if there was still a way to view it.
I will have a short guide to the controls appear in the first battle for people who haven't read this post.
Anyway, I'm trying to get rid of text menus in Amethyst, as shown by these and the Start menu. You'll see why in the second demo :P
And did anyone notice I used Item instead of Bag?

I think you should make the buttons match your interface. More of a rounded, glass-like effect would make them fit perfectly, as well as make them look awesome.

OK, thanks for the input. I've been working a bit on it today, but I'll probably have to finish it tomorrow. I'll work on the buttons then.

Well, I've been messing around with the scripts again, and have managed to fix everything but the graphics. Here's some screens; are these better?

And as I said, pressing Z lets you see the field:

I'll work on the buttons now.
EDIT: Finished the command menu buttons; I'll do the Fight menu ones tomorrow (one for each type :S).

i would suggest taking the little like... flap thing at the top off of the button.
that way it doesnt look like... a folder or something.

It's just like the icons on D/P/P. It's like a 3D effect making them look like buttons. Or atleast, that's what I thought they were supposed to be. Since when you push them on the DS the flap thing disappears like you're pressing a button o-o

Oh... well, i thought it made it look like a folder thing.
Which is kinda lame.
you can still make it look like a button without the flap.
im just sayin that i think it would look better without it ^_^

Battle system- Verry Nice I like it alot. My only problem is the fact that the pokemon's back sprite is covered. I think it really takes away from the battle if the pokemon's back sprite is ever covered at all; but that's just me.

Keep up the good work!!!!

EDIT( Didn't see page 30 XD) Okay, It looks WAYY better now, great job. It's still a little cluttered for me, but that's just my opinion. It'd also be nice if your pokemon's battle sprite was a tiny bit bigger. But since Shinx is a small pokemon, I can't really be objective with that.

The new screens of the battle system interface look really sweet Wichu. Do Pokemon only have 3 attacks? (Just asking cause of one of the screens- cause the 3rd attack at the bottom is centered). Looks good.

Nope, they can still have 4 moves. I've made it so that the alignment depends on the number of moves you have:

1 move.

Well, I've finished editing the buttons. A few changes have been made, noticeably the outline and the little bit at the top (not quite sure what to call it :S):
http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj197/projectamethyst/Screenshots/Screenshot190.png
The Fight button.
http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj197/projectamethyst/Screenshots/Screenshot187.png
The Item button.
http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj197/projectamethyst/Screenshots/Screenshot188.png
The Run button.
http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj197/projectamethyst/Screenshots/Screenshot189.png
The Pokémon button.
http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj197/projectamethyst/Screenshots/Screenshot181.pnghttp://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj197/projectamethyst/Screenshots/Screenshot182.png
Two moves of different types.
http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj197/projectamethyst/Screenshots/Screenshot180.png
The Cancel button.
Doing a button for each move type was quite challenging :P
