HACK OF THE WEEK - Season 1 ENDED!

We'll try to get this to be more organized this time, so, we'll start this thread for all the weekly votings (instead of making one each week, which'd annoy everyone... XD)

The idea will be to start the weekly voting on the first hours of Sundays and finish'em on the last hours of Saturdays

Alright, as always, the first thing are the rules...

RULES <NEW!>:
1. A hack can only win the HotW once. Obvious rule.
2. In order to prevent any possible kind of manipulation, only votes from users with more than 30 posts will be accepted.
3. Voters MUST include a reason for their vote. Think about it carefully: What do you like about that game? Put some thought on it and dont just say "because it's good". Dont worry about not being original, just express your thoughts in your own way.
4. You must only vote for the hacks in the list of elegible hacks. These hacks are those whose topics were created in the Hacks Showcase at most 31 days ago (as old as Oct,23th inclusive), or the ones who have chosen to use its "second chance", or the ones that were in the Scrapbox and meet the following requeriments:
*its topic must have been started more than 31 days ago (Oct,23th inclusive) but it must not be older than 62 days (Sep,22th inclusive)
*the thread must be in the first four pages of the Scrapbox
*it must be marked as a "hot" thread (that's gotten after receiving lots of views)
*it should contain at least some in-game images through its thread, we are not voting for ideas, but for hacks in overall
5. If the hack's thread is closed by the time I run a search for the valid hacks, then it wont be considered elegible for the current week.
6. Once the list of elegible hacks is made, it wont be changed during the week. Meaning if new threads are created, moved from the Scrapbox, or closed, the list wont change (but it will do in the next week). Just what's present on the first hours of Sunday is what counts.
7. Hacks which havent made it into the HotW due the 31 days rule can participate in the "second chance" one time. If you are interested, keep reading further.

THE "SECOND CHANCE"
The idea is that the hacks whose topics are older than 31 days can enter a "second chance" in the votings. This will give your hack a whole month of possible nominations (four consecutive votings).
Basically, your hack must meet the following requirements:

-It mustnt have won the HotW previously, lol
-Its thread must be older than 31 days (couting from the date the thread has been started)
-Its thread must be active in the Hacks Showcase (if it hasnt received a post in more than a month, then it cannot participate)
-It must not have used its "second chance" some other time
-It must not be one of the 10 hacks which have reached the finals in the HotY for the last year (else it'd be unfair to the 31 days hacks, I'm sure any of those 10 would win over the newer ones)

If your hack meets those requirements, just send me a PM on the last days of the current month/first days of the next one, and that way it'll start participating in the next month's four votings. Sending me PMs on the middle of a month will surely make me forget about them. That's why I'll add the second chance hacks only at the first Sunday of the new month. Dont worry, because I'll mention when you could send me PMs about participating in the second chance after the month's last voting finishes. Just check that out.
If you have doubts, just PM me and we'll check if it can use the second chance.

And that way, while the 31 days rule is a kinda automatic thing, the second chance leaves the rom hacker the option/responsability of picking when to participate. Be wise, as I wont tell who'll be using their second chance till the list is made. Be confident or make sure you'll be showing good stuff on that month, you can always wait to use it, if you want. It's up to you.

ELEGIBLE HACKS FOR THE CURRENT VOTING (Deadline on Sat, Nov 29th)
in alphabetical order

---There are no candidates as Season 1 has ended, look for a new HotW thread---

Example of a VALID vote:

"I Vote For: Secrets and Rumors
Why: This hack can really take advantage of the crazy theories we had as kids, and make them come to life. I think this is a very good idea, and should have been done a long time ago."

Questions about the Elegible hacks? You know you can PM me about that ;)

I vote for Topaz/Garnet
Why: The most graphically appealing hack out of the possible choices. Mapping is great, looks like there will be some awesome events as well. Also a lot of tile and pallete editing has been done to make it look like FR/D/P because of the Ruby rom base. Looks like a lot of care and attention went into making the hack.

I vote for Pokemon Grey

A rare "orignal"(it could do with some tweaking but it could be really good) hack. There are not many RBGY hacks around these days.

Well, restored everything. Of course, Week No.2's voting was already done, with Xiros' Omega winning it (if you still want to congratulate him, do it in his thread, this one's just for voting)

Now Week No.3 has started so it's time to vote again!

It's a pain that the other post got deleted, but, just remember this voting is not meant to be a competition. It's just a way to express an overall opinion on the hacks around here.

Uhhhhh.....
Eruption is a month old,but I'll vote for that casue it's cool with some good scripting
And it has a good leader and EVERY Good hack has a leader dong most of the work, unlike Pokemon R-Sun,LS,MW,Aurora and MG

Umm...4fetter0_0 the competition is finished, also zel want this locked seeing as it has finished?

zel 2.0
March 12th, 2008, 04:28 AM
No, Blazichu. I thought we better make just one thread with all the weekly votings (because if we had to make a new thread each week for each voting, we'd fill the Rom Hacking section with such threads... That'd look like a mess, dont you think?)
That's why I said that we can start voting again, for Week 3, on this same thread.

And, if we count 31 days back (from Mon, 10. That date the voting started), that leaves us at Feb,8(inclusive), so all the hacks as old as that date are participating (And Eruption is barely over the limit, but I dont like to say those things as that could lead to some manipulation, so, just vote for what you feel like voting, and write a valid reason)

What happens if a hack is moved into the showcase from the scrapbox? Are all eligible set or can new choices be added? Not that I don't want to vote for any.

In fact I vote for Psychic Pink for its awesome graphics and originality.

I Vote For: Topaz/Garnet
Why: Obviously the graphics are impressive and distinctive (Not all FR, not all DP, not all Custom, but somewhere delightfully in between). I think the story has as much potential as the visuals. Also, I'm impressed with the professionalism that seems to accompany the hack.

This one seems to have a lot of potential.

I vote for Mitic Island.
Its graphics are great and it has good mapping. There are some things that i don't like but i still think it deserves to win the "Hack of the Week"

@megiddo: To answer your question, it'd be the same thing as if it were a new thread popping on the Hacks Showcase. It'd be considered in the next week's nomination (if still possible)
To make things short: "Once I have to search which hacks accomplish the 31 days rule, I make the list and that list wont be changed till the next week. No matter if threads are created, moved, or closed"

And, megiddo, Psychic Pink is not in the list of elegible hacks. Unfortunately, by Monday, March 10th (the moment the new voting started) P.P was a couple more days older than 31, and I cannot make exceptions. So, you'll have to vote for something else, if you want.

Well, have fun picking! :D

Wow, this is a pretty hard vote, there are some amazing hacks that are eligible for voting... I'd have to go with Pokémon Mitic Island! It is terribly difficult because my favorites are Mitic Island, Thunder Emblem, Zephyr, Omega and Topaz/Garnet! :P

The reason I'm voting for it is that Lex is one of my greatest friends, and his game's palettes and tiles are amazing! I mean, he's inserted as much tiles as I can imagine... So many different trees, maps, and other things that have amazed me. He's inserted like a million palettes for just a single tree, and I also respect him for all of his other hacks. So, Mitic Island is my vote!

Vote Of this Week: Pokemon Piratite

Reason: This hack takes the Pokemon world into a completely new breath. You must risk your skin to save a young, almost drowned, child. In addition to the amazing new type of story, it posses a VERY nice looking new evolution to the Clamperl family, Narquiem.

Okay. Voting for this week is closed. And it's clear that this week's winner is Pokémon Mitic Island, by Lex (and alexmad and other people in the past... XP)

Voting Results
Mitic Island, with 5 votes
Eruption and Piratite, with 2 votes
Zephyr, Thunder Emblem and Topaz/Garnet, with 1 vote (I personally sent a PM to pokepal2007 a few minutes after he did his post so he could edit his vote with a reason for his pick. Guess he wont be able to change it now...)

Well, hopefully we'll get more voters in the future. This is just the start, but we have to make of this something important! :D

Alright, once again, if you want to congratulate Lex about getting the HotW, do it on his thread (this thread is only for the weekly votings)

Okay, people. Week No.4's voting starts right now. Please proceed with the voting (it's gonna be an interesting week this time, good hacks on the list :))

I Vote For: Pokémon B&W
Why: This hack has the greatest tiles I've seen on a GBA hack. It's the first I've seen to show a third dimension. (And do it well.) The "You don't remember anything" story is hardly new, but certainly offers a chance for an interesting change of pace to the average hack. I see tons of potential here.

i vote for....ruby destiny-rescue rangers.
why? because destinedjagolds an amazing hacker, i mean, to create a mystery dungeon style game out of a ruby rom! pure brilliance...absoulute(can't spell) brilliance. the way he's made healing plants too, and one way warp systems. he subtley tested these ideas in reign of legends and it has paid off. so once again i vote for ruby destiny-rescue rangers

Hm, well I guess I know who's winning what now, so I'll pick Pokémon Never Black & White! I bet you know why, but to make my vote valid, I'll tell you why. xP It has incredible tiles and palettes, and the scripts and events are timed out perfectly, from what I've seen with videos. The choices of music are perfect, and the hack is very original. Not to mention that it'll be in English! (Thanks to me and Alexllew!)

This post is pure fail.... This is not what HOTW is for. It's like a perfect example of what not to do in this thread.

Anyway, my vote goes for Pokemon B&W. Mainly due to it's superb mapping, and cool story line. I feel a lot of time has been put into it.

Please put in a reason

I vote for pokemon amnesia.
Why: I like the storyline and graphics mainly but it has a couple of jokes here and there(from the screenshots) w/out it being complete nonsense or cursing.
it sounds really good also.

And, again. Voting's closed. And, again. We have a clear winner for this week's HotW, this time it's Pokémon Never B&W, by ҳ̸ҲRichie (also known as SkOria on SP forums)

Voting Results
Never B&W, with 11 votes
Rescue Rangers, with 5 votes (had to ditch wahwah's vote as he didn't post a reason for his pick)
Amnesia, with 1 vote
Shiny Gold, with 1 vote (aka "the lol vote" XP)

As always, if you want to congratulate him do it on his thread (this thread is only for voting, I know I repeat it a lot, but it's better to be safe XP)

Alright, the next voting can start now. While checking the threads a few elegible hacks had their threads closed, so, that's why the list is a bit shorter this time. But fear not! I'm trying to organize my ideas for something like "a second chance" for hacks, but, I need to write it in a clear way. For now, this week's elegible hacks will be the ones in the list. There will be no changes.
OK, happy voting! ^^

I vote for: Pokémon Ruby Destiny - Rescue Rangers (http://www.pokecommunity.com/showthread.php?t=129528), because if the amazing originality found if you play it. The player is literally a Pikachu, which I've never seen in a hack before. (Though admittedly, my knowledge of hacks goes back only about a year.) Also found in it are amazing scripts. destinedjagold (http://www.pokecommunity.com/member.php?u=48504) has already completed one hack, so he has experience, and I'm sure he'll do a lot to make this hack great. Very deserving of hack of the week in my opinion, after just missing it last week.

Edit: Anyone else notice each of the four winners was based either on Gold or Ruby? No Firered, which is easily the most common base I've seen.

Reason: This hack is not something you see every day, its a great idea that no-one in the history of pokemon hacking has done( I think so). The OW's are great and alot of effort is put into them, so alot of hard work is done in this hack.

Rescue Rangers, with 8 votes
Grey, with 4 votes
Zephyr and Thunder Emblem, both with 1 vote

So, as always, if you want to congratulate him, do it on his thread (because, well, you know, this thread is only for voting)

Alright, a new voting can start. You'd probably be surprised at the low ammount of options this time. I guess there werent a lot of new threads around the Hacks Showcase -_-
Anyway, that's when I have to introduce the "second chace". Which basically means that, a second chance for those hacks who havent won the HotW in the past, and for those hack which couldnt make it in due to the 31 days rule. Of course, I cannot really explain everything again, so I'd suggest you to read its section on the first post.
During this whole week I'll receive PMs about hacks wanting to participate in the second chance. Once the next list is made, they'll be added for four consecutive votings. And the hacks that dont want to participate in the next month, then, they'll have to wait for the next one (no additions mid-month, for my sanity reasons)
(PMs are the prefered way, because posting your petition here sounds a bit odd, and this thread is only for voting)

Oh well, this week's list remains as it is. I just hope people still vote '^^

I vote for Pokémon Amnesia. Of the three hacks up for vote this week, this one seems to be the most developed, and has a much more original story(Read: Something we haven't seen before, for the most part.) than either of the other two candidates. The palettes are soothing, and the original tiles look good. Also, the creator claims to be aiming more towards events than badges, which is always a plus in the hacking world.

Voting Results
Waterfall, with 9 votes
Amnesia, with 3 votes (had to ditch rednano12's vote because it lacked a reason for his vote)

Do the congratulating on his thread, as always.

Alright, since I havent had requests for participating on the second chance, and that'd only give us just two hacks for the voting, and since I didnt want to cancel this project, I decided to include some of the most popular and with the best potential hacks from the Scrapbox, I know that some will not see fair to not see their hacks in the voting, but I tried to do what I could (everyone cant participate), because this was something I had to do while I'm waiting to see if someone will want to participate in next month's second chance, or if more threads pop up in the Hacks Showcase.

Meanwhile, the threads in the Scrapbox will have a chance to be considered to enter in the list of elegible hacks, so if a hack gets posted there, attracts people's attention, and shows some potential, it'll be added in the next week.

Well, that's what I had. You'll have a harder time picking this time, at least >.<

i don't want to spam this board or complain at a person who is at a much higher rank then me.
We hack because nintendo won't let us make a game where we think the game should revolve around entei.
we basically hack to entertain people, use it as a hobby, and to make a game where we think something can be right if we want it to be when we just don't like game development or aren't experienced at it.
and it is extremely immature how a high ranked person such as you would spam.

Good for you. If you don't like it, keep it to yourself, amirite? Hacking games legally is no more silly than mixing your Pepsi with your Mountain Dew, and not near as silly as a Community Supporter trolling on the boards. Come on now.

On topic, I vote for Pokemon Hokum Trilogy: Part One. OK, let's start with this new week's voting. There were some new threads, and that means more voting options :D
But still, I decided to keep Scrapbox's hacks as part of the votings, however, they'll have to meet certain requirements (mainly to pick those that show potential, seriousness and that they attract attention ;P)

-its topic must have been started more than 31 days ago but it must not be older than 62 days.
-the thread must be in the first five pages of the Scrapbox
-it must be marked as a "hot" thread (that's gotten after receiving lots of views)
-it should contain at least some in-game images through its thread, we are not voting for ideas, but for hacks in overall

Those who meet the requeriments will automatically be added each week. Just two this time, but a huge ammount will be coming on the next weeks. Keep working on your projects, and good luck! ;)

Pikachu's Tale. It's like the Pokemon game I've always dreamed of, It carries almost every exact detail of the first season of Pokemon, from meeting Misty at the lake, to the almost perfect landscape tiles that resemble Pallet Town, Viridian City, and Route 1 exactly, it's a sure win. Even carrying Pikachu on Ash's back was included :D I'll be absolutely ecstatic when Barker finishes it, but I know it'll take a while, so I'm waiting ever so patiently.

Well, the thing is that since for now MD hacking is not that "supported", I doubt it'd stand a chance for competing against hacks that look more like hacks (and MD hacking still has a long way till the first "hacks" start showing up)
Of course, if MD hacking starts to get more serious, hacks'd be considered as selectable.

Before you ask, same thing would go for DP hacking, in case you are wondering.
