And ideas or suggestions you have can be posted here, plus discussion about the current SOTW.

Yeah I know that x].
But people would be recommending a certain theme or telling them to choose that.
Just like in a lottery with different prizes. (everyone wants the whisky, if you get it)

I think you're thinking where everyone puts in a suggestion for a theme for the winner to decide.

I'm thinkin' the winner gets to pick something out of their own head and put their foot down and say, "We're doing this whether you like it or not".

I don't think our trains of thought are on the same railroad tracks. xD



Anyway, both me and Sachi think that the signature of the week contest should run for a week. If you were leaving time for voting, I'm pretty sure there shouldn't be any troubles with letting voting run over into the new contest. :<

I guess you could do that, while entries are being placed in one week, the voting can continue for another. It would be annoying but might aswell happen ;).

I have a question: does the winner of this SOTW get to participate in the next one as well? I mean, if they could choose the theme, they could as easily pick something that only they're good at, and use that.

Also, I'm assuming that pre-mades (banners made before the contest has begun) are allowed?

I have another question now: what would happen if only one person submitted an entry? It's obvious that we can't make that person win by default, since it doesn't seem too fair to me. I was thinking either the deadline be extended, if there are other people planning to post, or start a completely new one, with a different theme, etc. Er, yeah, I just want to know ^^

Oh, and maybe make it clear that all the discussion should happen here, instead of the actual thread. I get too lazy to check two threads at once xD

I dont honestly care about winning, just submitting and even being in it is good for me, even though I know my banner is probably gonna fail anyways. :]

1. Persons of any skill level are allowed to join, yes. It's just for fun, so it doesn't matter how good you are.

2. In SOTWs in other forums, the themes are quite strict, for example, if the theme says 'space' it can only be outer space, not aliens or sci-fi stuff. Though, seeing as this forum is a lot less focused on graphics, the range of the themes are probably broader, so waves do count within the theme of 'ocean'. Otherwise, my entry wouldn't count at all, nor would half of the other entries xD

3. The voting will most likely be a simple poll in the thread. But you'd have to clarify that with CheesePeow/one of the moderators o___o

4. Meh, I doubt that categories would be necessary. It would just make things more complicated and stuff.

As you said, it probably will be a simple poll. Theres really no other way. (we cant have judges ;d, booooring.)

Also, if it has anything to do with that category do it.
For instance, if I did Pokemon. A pikachu would be right wouldn't it?
If I said ocean, a wave is in the ocean right? A pikachi is in Pokemon ;).

And would there be a limit as to what the winner decides for the next theme? I mean, they could just go "-insert anime no one has ever heard of with only one existing, usable image here-" o___o

Well, no you cant vote for yourself, I thought people would already know that ;d.
And yes, their would be a limit, i'll take yours for example.

They could do anime?
They could use a specific render?
Or they could choose a name of a show.

But of course, it must be popular enough for alot of images to be available.
I'll only take specific anime such as Bleach, Naruto, Pokemon or something like that, because people know them :).

I'd say if you want to go for something anime related, keep it just plain "anime". That way, it's not quite as restrictive, and we don't run into the problem of someone choosing an unknown anime. But it's your call on that one. xD

And evilcheese, the voting for this weeks competition starts during next weeks competition. So that way voting will run for a week. Maybe shorter, because there just votes. I still haven't made a complete rules list, but i'll get it done soon ;d.

oh and just a suggestion why not make a thread (loki creates it) and locks it. that thread will hold all of the winners banners like a hall of fame. but i think we should get a new code of the banner because it might be deleted or something.

It is difficult to enforce that rule. I mean, there are several banners I've made, but never show publicly, and I could as easily pick up one of those, and submit them into the contest. Either allow premades, or put the rule up, and hope that people follow it anyway xD

An archive thread sounds like a good idea, much like the Sprite contest ones in the Pixel Art forum.

Well, it takes one person to ruin the fun for others, so think about it before you submit a pre-made banner. The whole point of SOTW is too have some fun, and try something new. Just submitting banners that you've made before won't really get anyone anywhere. Plus, if you already know someone who is doing this, it would be good to PM me with some proof. Then he/she could be disqualified.

I usually think SOTW theme's are up to the reader's interpretation, really. Modern medicine should be technology, and if it's not technology directly, you could always just twist it around and say that technology helped develop modern medicine. xD

Wow, Melancholy. Amazing theme, but really hard. I was thinking using a Haruhi Suzumiya render. Any other ideas?

I was thinking that was a bit cheap xD And using a happy image of Haruhi wouldn't really show 'melancholy', besides the whole "it's part of the title of the show she's in" thing. An image of her being sad might be alright, though.

I was just going to look for a stock of someone looking sad. Not very original, but I can't really come up of anything else.

The rules on following the themes aren't that strict, anyway. I think you'd still get away with a happy Haruhi image. Considering that munna got away with his Light.

Stock packs are complete love- the only thing that has motivated me to use real people in my banners. |D And now, whenever I look through magazines, I see an advertisement and think, "That would be an awesome stock". Look at what you've done to me, PR.

I'll edit in the fugly Light banner once I find it. xD The render was awfully strange color-wise, and I was most certainly not in my 'inspirational' mode, so it just...

Im happy with people changing the rules around just a BIT.
Like for instance, I accept munna using 36/thirty-six in his banners because he always does it, not just a one time thing. So its alright, I would usually tell someone if I dont accept their banner, if im not lazy ;D.

Well I think giving a reason is much better. I mean you look at something once and like it. But when you look at it again it doesn't look as good… and same the other way around… things can grow on you by just giving a little thought as to why you like it.
I wish there was a poll in after giving your vote a message will pop up asking for the reason… and if you don't give a reason your vote become invalid. It's practically the same thing but the "poll" would attract more members.

I like the entries this week, but their not really getting to the point, its supposed to be humor, not an encyclopedia :S. The signature doesnt need to look good, but you'll get the most votes if you make the person actually laugh. Just my point on this.

That actually depends on the voter's stand-point. xD; Like there are some banners that made me laugh a little, but they're not good graphic-wise, so I would never vote for them.

I personally wouldn't vote for a banner that took 5 minutes to makes no matter how funny it was..
Other people won't care about how the banner looks, but on the content, since the theme is "humor"..

I really should have come up with something funny.. but my brain is dead xD

I'll be voting on the humour first then the graphical look.
Quite a few professional illustrators draw crudely… It's because of the "badly drawn" images that make it graphical. Stuff like Cow & Chicken and Ren and Stimpy <3.

I can't really do SOTW anymore. Im sorry to let you down, but i've been a bit busy with my crap life. I guess someone is going to have to work something out between this.

If things get a bit messy I might have to put in a detail description of whats going on, but hopefully someone gets it.

I suggested the whole "making the polls public" things since the first SOTW, but I think the previous method was a good way to stop cheating. Now that we've gone back to polls, I think we should at least make the polls public.
