So the thread is up finally!

(just one little question, are these threads just for new members or could i post my storyideas here too?)

So, behind my name is not written spriter and OW maker, so i will post here some of my sprites and i hope i would not just be a simple storymaker.
I made a sprite for the girl and the boy + their two OW's (please do not steal them) hope you like them, it would be great if you add spriter behind my name.

ok, i'll work on an other boy, about the girl, i made one with longer hairs , i hope you like her, but about the color, if you wish to make it pink, you have to chance the pallet of the girl in unlz and sry, but, i can't do this. about the haircolor being blue, i thought that it will look more similiar to officer jenny, wich in case is her mother, so i really like the blue. about the boy, do you wish any haircolor or clothes?

now thats what I call sprites, and don't worry about the palette I can handle that..! Great Job..! ;) Now the only thing we need for now are the rest of the OW sprites..!:)

All of this scripts do exactly the same, but the movements of the hero are a little changen from 1-4.
I use this scripts in my own hack and they work. (except one problem: I don't know how to insert the sound of a question mark...).

All of this scripts do exactly the same, but the movements of the hero are a little changen from 1-4.
I use this scripts in my own hack and they work. (except one problem: I don't know how to insert the sound of a question mark...).

cause i used paint.net to make the jpgs... no loss of quality but still a smaller filesize
if you know how jpg is working (similar to mp3) youll know how that is possible... lol

i like the idea to use the forest trees on a route, but:
-The flowers at the bottom right are filling the whole spot there, it should be less of them
-the mountain is a bit empty, add some stones up there
-there are tile errors at the top end of the ledges
-the hedges in the top left corner look a bit strange to me
-it has a square shape, like nintendo always makes...

post the map in the map rating thread, they will give you some good advices there

(and if the sister should look to the hero: does she have to look up, down, left or right at the end?)

you click on Lunar IPS, on create own patch. Then you choose a CLEAR, UNMODIFIED FIRERED ROM, then the hacked one and than you can name the patch and choose the save direction.
Then you load it up at rapidshare and give me the link per pm.
Ps: The script is nearly finished xD

edit: Isn't the hero's room mapped yet?
I patched a firered (US) with your patch, at the right side were false tiles and the bed was false too.
And I was starting left, inside the black O.o
Was it the false rom version???

(btw there wasn't even a sister...and if you leave your room you get into the living room, but in the top right corner like in the original game. If I would insert my script, the sister (which isn't here) would run to the left, but the hero is right)

i also like the name shinju which in fact means pearl, but has nothing to do with fire, but you could say the region is the pearl of our game ;D

im nearly done with the general shape of the region map, ill post an image than and after that ill add the towns and routes.
what i can say already now is there is one major island, but not as huge in comparison to the islands as it is in hoenn. i have two mid-size islands where we could add 2 cities on each if we wanted and two smaller island for one town. also there are some really small islands but theyre just there to make the map look more natural...
so when you see the image youll agree with me when i say it will be necessary to get surf a bit earlier, or we add a boat or sth like that...

i dont know what the Mt. Rage is but i made a path to this island

I think there are 14 cities/towns now and about 18 to 20 routes.
The green Town at the bottom left of the biggest island is the starter town.
I think it would be good to have a surf path from the bottom left island to the starter town, but you would have to change that on the map of the town too. making such a route would bring the player across the small island east of the bottom left island, we could add a cave there.
and i think tht this island where you want to place mt rage should be only accesible from one side, like i did it, since mt rage will play an improtant role in the game (or not, i dont know :P)

if u dislike ssomething tell me, its not hard to change things

and to the name: i like Kyuto which ShadowArcanine suggested


I also have some suggestions about cave/mountain positions:

But the room should be better mapped by a mapper and not by me, it horrible for me to do all the things with movement permissions and so on.

But, the script works xD

If you step down after going upstairs, you sister comes to you, will face you, and depending on which gender you chose she will say bro or sis in the message. Then she will return back to the seat at the table.
I also insertet a script for herself, if you speak to her now sitting at the table she tells you to hurry, 'cause your father's waiting.
After getting you first Pokemon, she just asks: Bro/sis, how ya doing? (depending on gender again).

The mom is in the original position, and one field downwards sits the sister at the table.
She will walk right, up, right, right, right and then face upwards. The field she is facing to will be the field where the script is ^^

that will make her end up next to the stairs and not in front of the player... there are no stairs that go down from the left to the right, i could make some but that would cause errors when coming from upstairs since the player will still do 1 step to the left...
the other thing i could is either make a strange wall or let the player come through a door, not the stairs

if we would locate the girl somewhere else or change the script it would be better

The only problem is the warp of the stairs, when you try to enter you only bump it and when you walk to the opposite side(right side) you warped as you where climbing to heaven(no stairs), LOL..!

yeah in "my" version I moved the hero's room into the underground, so he had to go upstairs ^^
the only problem were the move permissions (and the map, I'm not good at mapping ^^)

ehm little question: do I have to import and change the map etc...or do you just send me a patch when it's ready so I just have to insert my script?

i think i posted a rar file with the map and the tileset above, i dont know a lot about pathcing but i think its not very hard

now i have to make a new region map since the old one didnt fit the map size requirements... lol

i need the exact size of the border from the route part to the end of the image from each direction in pixels, dont know them

i think you used the wrong carpet in front of the stairs
there should be two of those, one is for going downstairs and one is for going upstairs

'cause if I'd use the map postet by neti I would have to do the same changes as you, and as I said: I'm a horrible mapper ^^

By the way: I could also insert scripts for the things in the room, like the flatscreen. Like "there is a pokemon film running...better get going!" or something like this ^^

one of the carpets lets you go down left, the other one lets you go up right...
so this wont solve our problem: we either make him have his room under the earth or place stairs that go to the left on the right side of the room

i edited the region map to make it fit the required size
one of the islands had to be fully removed (for walking, its still a part of the island on the map), one was resized and all of them were relocated
its all a bit closer now we'll have 12 cities now not 14 (12 was your original request)

and i also left out cities on the east island cause it was too far in the east

for our stairs problem:
i thought about just changing the tiles, maybe turning and swapping them, but that wont change the fact that the carpet tiles will make you go either left down or right up... we need to ffind a way to enable right down and left up
i think there are stairs in rockets hideout or siplh co that have this behaviour, ill look it up

Well, maybe I could just a script that causes the player going up everytime, so 2 steps to the right. If we change the movement permission a little the player would go up with the second step. At least I think he would, I'll try it ^^

it works!
The upper tile of the first carpet in front of the stairs that go down must have behaviour byte 6E 00
the upper tile of the other carpet must be 6D 00
You can edit those in Advance Maps Block Editor
After that you just need to place the stairs left of the carpet in the living room and right of it in your room
i think you already made tiles with turned stairs
and take the faltscreen out, it causes tile errors in the players room. or we have to edit the room

OK, ive edited the map, tileset and blocks. i think i fixed everything.

i changed the direction the mother and sister look at after making this vid, so theyll be facing the table.

maps: there are 2 map files and 2 evt files which are needed for the maps. one for each room -> 4.0 and 4.1, you know how to open them
tileset: i fixed some tiles, its in the rar as tileset.dib, the file tileset.pal is also needed - you know how to import tilesets, use palette 0
blocks: i turned the stairs and changed the behaviour. open map 4.0, go to block editor, click on blocks, then "load tileset 1" and open the blocks.bvd (im using german version so i dont know what it will be exactly like)

then the script needs to be adjusted!
the new movement must be left, up, up, up, face left
and then just add the script to the girl i located at the seat

i moved the mother from her original position, i dont think that will cause any errors

There aren't changes yet except the titlescreen and the pokemon coming out of Oak's pokeball.

My problem now is: Does it matter if I use a Firered (USA) or has it to be a firered (E)?

edit: it works with USA, but is it normal that the header maps are in english and the ini in german? O.o

everything was done and working finde when i suddenly noticed that the titlescreen is crapped now xD

when i opened map 4.1, which is the living room, with the patch you gave to me, i got 6 error messages and it showed me there are 45 persones, 0 signposts, 0 warps and 46 scripts on the map, but there actually were 0 of all... who caused that xD ?

I deleted the version were my error occured and patched a new, just extracked ROM with a patch of x-buster.
and afterwards I sent it to you, don't know what happened xD

@ x-buster: you are mapper right? So maybe it's the best you take your version with the changed titlescreen and put in the maps and the tileset neti uploaded.
My scripts are ready, I only need some minutes to get all of them work (script for the action with the sister, message when talking to sister, message when talking to mother).

@ShadowArcanine: i dont know if it was you who made the ow sprites for the boy, but i think it was. when hes walking left or right his hair is moving a bit strange, only at the front of his head. and also when walking upwards it looks strange at the right side, its getting 1px wider there. looks a bit strange to me. otherwise good work

for now i played the beta, here are two bugs that i found, a little question, what about the flatscreentv in netis post or is her map not insert yet?
for now there aren't much gameplay, there are just the OW insert and the map inside of the house (or maybe i made a mistake with patching?)
a little question, why use celebi as pokemon as jump out of oaks pokeball? why don't we edit the text, put entei as the pokemon and say something like, this is the protector of the region and we could leave the "black pokemon" bug, then, what do you think?

flatscreen was removed cause it caused tile erors when the tv was on the carpet in the players room.
since this it no longer is there, we can put it back in...

PAL doesnt matter right? and which color mode? i never worked with unlz.gba before...
when i click on import it is looking for a png... i thought ill need a bmp? and when i try to import a png it says the file is not indexed...

how are you gonna reorder the tiles? that would be a lot of work!
and each tile should bethere ony once right? so i can leave out each tile that looks like another one... and what about towns? i have small towns in red blue and green and 2 big red ones, one from ssouth to north and one from east to west, what about them?

i need to go out with the dog now, after that ill go on disordering the tiles for you... im sure i dont understand the other part of what im supposed to do so ill send you an image of the disordered tiles, should it be png or bmp? and what is invisible/unused color?

@mastertrack: scripts seem alright to me
i have made a txt file a while ago with all the sprites of fire red, sorted in categories so you can easiyl find the sprites youre looking for
its written in german, so most of the others wont need it and i think some of the elite 4 and arena leader sprites are wrong

you have to wait for xbuster to come back online and that will be tomorrow...

the map is well done, no tile errors and stuff, but its a bit boring, since theres nearly nothing else than trees, grass and flowers. add ledges, rocks and other types of trees to the map to make it look more interesting.
but it doenst have a square shape, thats good!

did you read the map rating thread yet? they give good advices there. just look at some maps of others, you can get good ideas there and you will see what people like and what not by reading the ratings

well its not supposed to have ledges its very basic as i said all maps have to made to look good and have to have a reason for each thing in it

like if i put a few ledges in the map then i would have to have a reason for doing that not just to make the map look good but it has to fit with the story of the hack and go with whats going to happen but thanks on your comment

hmm i have to agree with you, you really cant add ledges in this map, i think it wouldnt fit to the rest of the map. and since the map is so small they dont make really much sense cause they wont eg force you to go through grass from one side but not when you come from the other side
if you would add 2-3 rocks to the map then i would agree with the statement that theres nothing to do anymore

im using paint.net, but its basic pixel art. you could easily do that with the normal microsoft paint.
im sure you know how to export the tilesets with advancemap so you can edit em.
if not:
just open block editor on a map with the tileset you want to edit, click image/picture (not sure) and then "save tileset 1 (or 2) as", depending on which you want. then you have a .dib image which can be opened with paint. you can also just change it to a bmp and edit it with any other program you like

hi team,
i made the OW for the police chef/your father, it's in the attachements, for now, i'll try to make the scooter, for show it to you and then i'll make the running shoes.
about the map and gary, we don't have gary in this game or a rival that has the script like gary, so why doing this?? btw the police station looks awsome, great work!
you meet your rival later in this game, in fact on route 1 after my storyplot. i didn't have add more things to this event, but i wpuld to it to make it this way:

you are going to route 1, you see two trainers who terrorists a pokemon, you, as a child from a police officer, tell them to stopp with that, both want to battle you, then a girl (your rival) appears to help you and you battle on of the trainers, your rival the other, after you beat them the trainer go away and you two become friends, she can give you an item like a potion or somehting like that and then she disappear, i know, it could be a very complicated script, so tell me, is it to much or do you think you can handle this?
after that you recieve you pokedex i'll think you could meet your rival on leaving the town and you could have a battle, that was all i was thinking about the first events.

so, thats all, i'll work now and the OW is in the attachement.

removing the pokedex and gary wont be too hard since theyre just normal persons
but when gary is not there, we need a new script for receiving the pokemons form the pokeballs since there will be no other person that moves

ill correct the things you mentioned and a tile error and upload it

oh and you should replace the oak sprite with thé new one, then we wont have to change the sprites everywhere he appears (which will be only 3 locations... hmm)

i think icq has a party chat, but im ussing an older version of it because i dont like the new one

@Reaper6: Im not the head of this team, but ild prefer you making another map which is a bit bigger and contains more different kind of stuff, so we can see how you use ledges, different typees of trees, rocks/mountains, water and maybe houses. that would help us with the decision cause the map you posted is a really simple one

little problem mates, my internet should be "flatrate" but it seems like it is limited to 3 GB (and we have already used more than 3 GB -.-).
We ordered flatrate and got something else, so it wasn't our mistake. But until it's corrected, I can't be online.
It's a big problem, but should take the guys too long to correct their mistake.

btw Shadow Arcanine: Of course it is a complicated script, but I think I can handle this ;)

i like it :)
Espaciallyy the big pruple building, but it would have looked better if you would have connected those forestanding things, so there is one of em on each side of the door and theyre bigger
its a bit square but i have this problem with my maps too xD
and maybe too many flowers
but all in all i like it

thex4's tutorial is the best, there you could learn all you have to know (it's my opinion)

i've got a little question, would you like more events in the first town? or do you think what we have is enough, we have:

@xbuster: i ditn make this error, i gave you a file called blocks.bvd or sth like that. if u had used it in the block editor that wouldnt have happened^^
or at least i think those data are saved in this file...

maps ok to me, only a bit empty and its really square! when posting a map shot pls turn off the grid before! sprites are also ok, only the first one looks strange

@legend12 ok, i would say you need more training, look at the maptutorials and post your maps at the maprating thread but your maps looks simply (sry to say that) boring and simply. really you should add more and with more character. i don't know what x-buster would say, but i don't think that this maps fit into our game

@legend12: let me give you some advices:
never make square maps. the one you made is just a square, not even a bit rounded
the tileset you used looks horrible to me,i know its not yours, but use different ones next time
theres is way too much empty space on this map
i dont get the sense of the ledges and the map itsself at all. when making a map it should have a sense... like a route, town or sth

keep on training, read some tutorials and keep posting maps in map rating thread, youll get good advices there.
i even subscribed to it so i can see what ppl like and what they dislike everytime a new map is posted

@all the otehrs:
i read 2 tutorials on pokescripting, so if we need a scrpt and theres no scripter online i could help out
gonna learn spriting now :P

@IceCharizard i think if you'd like to be a mapper you should post a map as proof and not a inserted pokemon xD i've got the same opinion as neti, a beta tester is always needed.

about the map:

looks quite nice to me:
the map is not overloaded and not too empty, maybe you could have added some flowers at the top between the houses, but its not such a big deal
only the stairs on top of the mountain look quite useless to me
and the square isnt nice also
i see onyl 1 tile error, over the sign at the pond

I had quite a bit of trouble with the fires shape my mouse was playing up,I should have used my Graphic Tablet...

guys i have a problem:
i made a map in advmap 1.8, and you know that it messes up the border tiles. now i edited it in advmap 1.9 but the border is still wrecked and i cant change that.
i could make the map again in 1.9 from beginning but there must be another way to solve the problem
on some of my maps i could jsut change the map border size at professional header view but it doesnt work for this one

edit: dont mind i fixed it, just had to edit the hex values of the border tiles

i made a script, or lets say 3 script, but they belong together
in a hack i made for fun the power plant is powered by water
so i thought it would be nice to have zapdos draining energy from sucicune and the player has to decide whether he helps suicune to escape and fight zapdos or abuse the situation and try to cath the weakened suicune.
I actually made a map and the scripts for that.
because the map is not that interesting at this point, ill show you only the scripts (since im learning scripting, not mapping^^)
first of all: suicunes id is 201 and zapdos' is 200

the first script is for a signpost that is activated when you talk to a tile under zapdos (you cant reach him, you have to make him come to you^^):
