Version 0.18 is OUT
Currently the server is NOT up. We are currently working on this issue.

Welcome everyone from the PokeCommunity to the thread on Pokémon Linked, a Pokémon MMORPG Project in the works.
About 5 versions of Pokemon Linked have been released at the moment.
Some of the features of Pokémon Linked include:

• Synchronized Movement
• Chat and chat commands. News included along with help (/news,/help)
• Character accounts and login names
• Stats
• Inventory or Bag
• Trading (soon to be developed more)
• Battle (Working on currently)
• Options (Working on)
• Auto Updater
• Pokedex

Many more will be featured, but those are the main features at the moment, and features to be working on.

We are currently experiencing problems with the server so the game has been taken down for the time being at the moment but will be released back online as soon as we are ready and working. I will announce this when it is up so no need to post when it is coming up thanks.

Also anyone that attempt to crack anything in the folder, will be banned. (THIS INCLUDES DECOMPILING!)

Pokemon linked is aiming to be a massive world of Pokemon. All the pokemon are being included in here, I know many projects always say that and I have always doubted it. I am fully confident however that all pokemon are going to be included in this game. I know - as I have already programmed almost 40% of the pokedex, all the way up to 493 pokemon. Not only will the podex have all the pokemon, but the battle system will have every pokemon, and adventually every pokemons moves.
As well as a full CBS and a Pokedex, this will include a bag system. I have a temporary inventoy - but I will gradually move it into the proper bag and GUI. Following this will be a shop system, Move learning, TM's, Trading, CMS (Custom menu system), automatic saving, stat upgrades, every item and new original ones, and basicly anything else we can think of. Quite a fair chunk of this has already been programmed so I think maybe a few weeks and alot more will be done. -Day and night system also, syncronising with your computers time, so that it will be accurate!-

The speed of this project is enourmously fast for the amount being asked to deliver. I think a few months and almost all of the following above will be done or almost done. (About 3 I currently estimate)
I will release new demo's every few weeks though to keep you all entertained usually, but at the moment I am puting alot into the next demo to look forward to.

Bugs and glitches

There are a number of bugs at the moment like item cloning (ironic because that’s like classic Pokémon games). For a list visit the forums, but I will try and keep this up to date.
No point in posting them all just yet though as most will be wiped out, the only thing I can say is:

AN UNEXPECTED ERROR LOADING THE GAME This is a bug I fixed, but please tell me if you get it if I have not fixed it.

Also a long loading screen is expected, just wait it out, the new demo loads sometimes at 0.5 seconds for me as I use it so as I said, wait. (2 seconds max).

Looks cool, but I liked the old idea too...
It was different from others.
But hey, this isn´t bad either.

How many Pokémon will be in? Only the first (and best) 150/151, or more?
And what about legendairies?
AND what about starters?
AND that´s all for now^^

I know this were a lot of questions, but I hope you´ll answer.

Good luck,
Bombah!

EDIT: I have to say it... FIRST POST XD

could you do like more than 4 moves.

for example say pokemon upto to lev 50 can only learn 4 moves

at lev 60 they can learn 5

lev 70 they can learn 6

and so on, since 4 movs is soooo short and in like cartoons high lev pokemon have more than 4

Hey thanks guys:

@Bombah!: The old idea was very original yes, but hey this is very original also, there is much I have not explained.
For instance I am working on a map making program so you can make maps to help the game, so basicly the players can build the world they play in! It is trying to be as easy as RPGMaker which is very hard, but I am very far already for working in it in 2 days. This is an original system as I know.

I will code the first 151 pokemon first... and then consider the others, but yeah first 151 first as they are the best.

Starters will probably be the same unless you want new ones, if so suggest them. They will not be legendaries though of course.

@amarj3:

That is a VERY good idea, I think I will use it thanks!

Thanks guys! I will post a screenie of the map maker soon.

also here are some random ideas i thought of.

elite 4 isnt really tough in these games, have u ever thought of doing a pokemon league after the 12 gym badges, obv u would need a random matching system thats makes u battle against random trainers in the league. i think this would make it more difficult since its easy to prepare against elite 4

just a idea, its not that good. this game rocks btw

An interesting idea and concept...I've seen something like this made on BYOND by my good friend, but the GUI was very advanced to say the least, I am curious as to what the Battle System will be like.

Thanks guys :) (offtopic, does everyone else appear to be a mod? Or is it only me?)

I am thinking of a pokemon Academy for players instead of the elite 4. Instead you gain ranks in the academy and move through the ranks to the top. Also you will able to defend your title as champion of the academy..... or have both the academy and elite 4 :P.

Tthanks RayRay and Kurosaki, I do the GUI myself an I am no artist, although I like it as it is very simple, yet nice.

Alot of work has been put into the map maker in the last three days or so, but now I am getting through the last of my assignments, so for the nest 2-3 days I can't work on it m8uch. Holidays are coming soon, so alot of time will come for my and the game soon :D. I am still working on the map maker and will try and get it looking like it should so I can get a screen, but it does not look as good as the genius in the coding - I surprised myself.

this is offtopic i know, but is this kind of project hard to do in Game Maker? i've never seen anything like it done before with GM, and i'm interested to know how the process works. please PM me if you don't want to spam up the showcase.

thanks! this is really cool!

If you will put more starters why not put pikachu too and make it like in yellow where the pikachu(or any other starter)follows you around

I like the idea of the Pokemon following you around tbh. I believe you should make it possible to choose any of the 4 generation starters, instead of picking a pokeball you could make it that you talk to the professor and a list pops up and you make a choice. ^_~

jonsploder
April 4th, 2008, 01:46 AM
Hmmm, I just had the idea of making clans, so there could be a team rocket gang or "Pokemon Bounty Hunters" etc.
There could be clan leaders and officers that accept or decline new member requests, and basicly order around the gang/clan. That way we could have an all out clan war!

Before I even start to code this, as it will take a bit to code - what do you guys think of the idea, and any improvements or suggestions are welcome. Also please vote a "Yes" or "No",

Thanks.

I support that, it'll be interesting to see the little virtual world at war =)

Will there be missions you do for NPCs?

amarj3
April 5th, 2008, 06:22 AM
you probably already done this but just to make sure, you should make starters catchable in the wild unlike other games.

1st generation
April 6th, 2008, 12:26 AM
I think you should have the starters from johto as well or something so that not everyone will ahve a charmand or bulbasaur.....

jonsploder
April 7th, 2008, 04:45 AM
Sorry for not answering in a while.
Yes there will be missions, and yes those pokemon should be available to catch in the wild.
I am currently working on the pokedex and MY NEW TEAM MEMBER is coding the Battle system.

Welcome the new coder, who remains nameless to help me and the team! He is the only other coder apart from me and he is helping immensely.

Just so you know how hard this is, I am coding the pokedex at the moment, and I have over 4900 lines of code, all with info of every pokemon. I am slowly progressing through it all with a friends help, how if continues to help will be an official team member also :). We have to read all info of about 500 pokemon....

This is just the baseline code. We are however zooming through this with hundreds of lines of code completed each day, but my nameless coder is working solely on the battle system, which is a monsterous task, and I will be helping him soon.

Keep in mind this is so huge I can't explain it, and will probably take 30 hours straight at the computer for me and my friend to complete the pokedex, then we will finish the battle system. New demo coming soon, maybe 2 weeks or so.

Looks nice, but somethings bugging me why is it MORPG instead of MMORPG o_O? Its not massive? I like how you scaled the sprites and stuff to 2X makes it easier to look at D:

Yeah will it be massively multiplayer or just multiplayer.

jonsploder
April 9th, 2008, 04:37 AM
Well it currently is multiplayer, but not massive. I will fix it as soon as we have at least more then 100 players. I am currently rechanging every pokemon sprite, :D. Almost done!!

Are you using the Pro version of Game Maker.

jonsploder
April 14th, 2008, 02:02 AM
Yes, I have updated the first post heaps! Be sure to check it.

Also I have changed the title. It is now 3D and MMORPG. It does not have depth, but it has a different dimmension: Time. I have just finished coding the Day/Night system! It does not yet syncronise with your PC, but that is only a few days away.

Time plays a very big role in this game as stronger pokemon are found in the grass at night and rarer. So if you are a newer player it is best to train in the day and if you are older you can train at night. At midnight a few legendaries will be more common.

This is totally unique as far as I am aware and is very exciting to program even!

Nice project. I hope the server will be up soon, so we can play the demo and see how it works.

Good luck ;).

jonsploder
April 18th, 2008, 10:44 PM
Yeah, I am trying very very hard to get the server up. I dont think that it is worth it yet, as the next demo will be an entirely new game.

I think you will find in it:

A full or almost complete pokedex - all the way up to 493 pokemon.
A semi-complete battle system.
A new world of NPC's, and a few indoor stuff.
Almost all of the bugs fixed, I cant see any at the moment.
A day and night system.
Bag system.
Computer storage and stuff.

And in the demo after that ALL of the above will definately be completed, and hopefully all the other basic stuff. Then we will just need to map and create quests.

OK, a little teasing update: A few more of the pokedex scripts have been completed, and thats very exiting as the games code is now based around it. Soon 200 pokemon will be in the game!

jonsploder
May 2nd, 2008, 02:38 AM
Ok, but the next few demo's will be waiting for a while. Its because we are tacling everything hard now to get it out of the way.

I am also thinking I stepping down to assistant director, only doing coding and a little bit off directing. I will be looking for people that want to help (directing wise).

If you do PM me, and I will talk it over. Experience in gamemaker or in any game making things would be a biggy.

Also because of this post, dont think that this is at all abandoned, I am simply stepping out of this role so I can consentrate on working the code.

May 9th, 2008, 03:48 AM
No, lol. Read the first post. Also much progress on the dex has been made (again). All the Kanto pokemon have been added, except for a few certain pokemon. =-D! Maybe 200 pokmon will be coded in a few days, but I have all my exams on in these four weeks. After that, I will have a major chunk of time to work on this.

I am still leader of dev BTW.

Thanks :).

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Good news snippet also guys, the map maker is back on track thanks to Jack (secondary programmer, pretty much a full one though :P), it looks VERY professional, although there are many long hours ahead for us to implement it in. You will be able to build Pokemon Linked soon :)

Also I have 3 weeks of exams ahead. As soon as they are over, I will have alot of time on my hands, time for the game.

Still abit of progress on other things, but I think if we consentrate on making the map maker, logically that gives everyone more time to make maps for a better next release. There will probably be competitions on the best maps made, with winners getting items.

I'll try and post a screenie as soon as we have a decent thing to show. Maybe even a demo!

Hey to get the server working search up hamachi in google and download and install it...You can use it to host a server for free.

jonsploder
May 15th, 2008, 03:11 AM
Yeah, I know hamachi...its a very bad program according to a few trusted critics. First everyone has to download and install it and its a virus?

Thanks though :). If the server is not properly fixed by the update I will definately use it untill something else crops up. I might even get it back up with a small new demo just for a few days for everyone.

Did this game suport PvP ?
Isn't it be more fun if the pokemon league not just beating E4 but a Pokemon League like in the anime, where many player compete to earn the title og pokemon Master ?

jonsploder
May 17th, 2008, 02:21 AM
Yes, the game will support PvP, trading, chatting etc...

Also yes thats a very good idea that has already taking a bit of thought, although we cant do anything on it untill the battle is completely done. And on a side note, I personally have moved on to programming attacks (all of them of course), and have over 500 lines of code done already on it, which is alot. I think I will be almost 2/5 way through by the end of today :). This marks most of the battle system and I think that I will be releasing a demo of the battle system sooner than I expected. If you want to help PM me - you will get credit and alot of thanks, many hands make light work and this is quite a hard thing for me to tackle on my own. It requires no programming knowledge also :).

Please have various pokemon under wise loads of lv5 charmendars will be present!

jonsploder
May 17th, 2008, 11:05 PM
Sorry can you repeat that? You made a few typos I think ;).

Just then I programmed a further 353 lines of code for every attacks "damage", along with the previous attack names. I will finish of the types and then there will only be two other main things on the attacks. I am almost exactly halfway through in 2.5 days, so expect it all to be complete hope fully in 4 days from now. I'll inform you all more soon :).

Callydude™
May 18th, 2008, 12:30 AM
I would help you if you wanted...Youd have to send me game maker and the rest of it cause I dont have it but i do know quite a bit about the main game maker system.

jonsploder
May 21st, 2008, 02:45 AM
Sure, but I dont think that you can do very much at the moment, its just basic programming which is a mess (in who's doing waht), and adding another person would be a negative affect, lol. Do you have any mapping skills? If you do can you please post a basic example of your work please.

Good news guys: I am getting very bored of this tedious programming, and I have decided to try and work on putting together the game again into the next demo. I think that all the attacks have been programmed, I programmed over half, and a kind person raised their hand to do the rest. I should have cody working on the battle system also, but the problem is stats and putting them ingame. I have also decided to try and rid myself of the auto-updater, and get patchs instead so there will be less to download. I am working also on cleaning up the forums and will probably move everything into an inisable bin, keeping everyones posts. The forums have decided to be the official dates and times, so refer to it for things like that. More importantly on it are a few useful links, cody has put up a site that tells people what the staffs times are, and you can have your name added to it if you want.
Any idea's on gameplay would be great as I want a few cool things in this demo that others havn't seen in a fangame before :).

Thanks everyone also that supports this game - you make our (the staff) world go round, its amazing how positive a comment can be :).

jonsploder
May 26th, 2008, 05:11 AM
W00T!! Absolute awesomeness! The server is FINNALY working and properly! I think that we can expect almost NO problems at the moment with the server, for the time being. This means the demo will now be confirmed to come out! Another piece of great news is that Cody (or Jacksparrow) has brilliantly coded the pokedex layout, all we have to do is fill in the major scripts :). The attacks are coming along nicely now, and will be done very soon. Then major work on the battle system will begin, with probably Cody (yet again, lol) will work it as usual. He is doing most of the major things in coding at the moment, and for that I promoted him to an Administrator on the forums and game. I am trying to get the pokemaart to work, and there has been progress on that already in the 1 hour that I've been working on it.

The problem is that I have so many small things I need to fix, for instance the chat, room transition, and tiles are all incorrect, along with having to redo ALL the mapping etc...Not fun. But I will have all of those done soon I hope. Its rather good news and I am starting to think that the release will definately be under the original 1/7/08 I was considering. Good news all around, :).

The last major thing that I am trying to do is the entire day/night/season/weather events. This is a bit complex to put in at a stable time (not really, just a fair bit of work) so we are going to make the system REAL TIME BASED. Yes, this does fix the issue of time-zones, so you are not playing in a sunny game when its dark. The visual affects are going to be added also so it makes better screenshots.

Updates later, thanks!

Just a small suggestion that's probably already been tackled before, but why not make it so that people can walk over other people and be in the same space?

I mean synchronized walking can get kind of annoying and be slightly problematic when two people wanna go into the same space, or if people stop in front of a door.

jonsploder
May 28th, 2008, 02:43 AM
Yup, thats been tackled before, I also thought that. What if two people had to go to the same point? They would be continuesly moving around each other, let alone if there where 20, ;).

I think I might post screenshots on the 5th hopefully. By then we might have everything looking nice and neat. I will also be mapping all of kanto, johto, and possibly the other regions, but those two are my main priority. This will take place after the demo has been released, its a little big for now. Look forward to screenies soon!

Good news guys. The demos release date is set to the 31st of this month :D. That leaves us about 3 weeks to to a HEC of a lot of work, lol. I have already done about 25% of the things on my list, but a few staff members are caught up in schoolwork, so I'll be doing a few extra things. I'M looking forward to playing it, free of bugs and with battle and with other people, not just me lol. :D
