I don't mind them being selfish, i did promise them a demo but they will need to wait :P

There is a reason for this...
The Everglade region, was rich with pokemon from other regions, however there was a servere flood and a lot of the pokemon from the region either fled or drowned.
Now, 10 years later on, the Pokemon numbers are slowly returning to what they used to be. However there are still some pokémon which haven't returned.
The Johto starters are in this list amongst a few more from the other regions, part of the task in this game will be to help bring back the pokemon which are missing, you will be able to travel to the other regions (hopefully - i may limit this to one official region and limitless amounts of my own made regions) to bring back certain pokemon for breeding, after this pokemon is brought back and a certain amount of time has passed, you will see them appear in routes and seas in the Everglade region.
Most of the Pokémon you will be asked to go and bring back will be at the very beginning of their evolution chain, and as such, their evolutions will only be available after bringing them back.
Players will not be required to 'capture' these Pokémon but rather they will be given to the player and sent back to the Everglade region from some important people.
There are also some these people who you will need to approach in the Everglade region as they leave very secluded and so they may have Pokémon which fled the region that you can use to bring back.
Ideas
I am thinking about adding a few new mini games to the game perhaps some sort of racing mini game, and maybe a few others.
I was also thinking of ridding the game of Pokémon Contests, I personally would favour something new over these as I never really took much interested in them in the official games.
Because I am using Sphere, I could always make an add on pack that featured a new town where contests could take place.
On this same note, there will be places on the game which you will not be able to visit until I release the updated package, this will not alter your game playing experience at all, it will still be possible to finish the game, however it will add new areas to the game after the player has completed the game as I always thought that once you had seen the ending credits the game play value went sharply down.
Update
Now I know I promise a demo soon, I think I still have about 50posts till the time frame I set myself runs out.
You will be glad to know that I have now very nearly completed the Items system.
Next Week, or maybe Friday of this week, a demo candidate will be sent to a friend of mine to test out, depending on the outcome of this test, the demo will or will not be classed as "ready" for release.
This however does not mean I will just release the demo there and then. Depending on the work I can get done between now and then, they may be a new area or new feature added in.

Just to show off the Bag system, I know that the graphics aren't right for the background, I have the correct ones now made however.

Thanks Neo appreciate the support.
Hopefully people will take the time to read the back story that I have written.
There will be a big emphasise on it in the game so it's best to understand.
I am going to rewrite the story for the demo, it won't involved much changing because a lot of it is exclusive of other parts, and then they all come together,
I will post an update version as soon as it's ready.
Any ideas that people would like to see put in? I'm open for suggestions.

I like th backstory i really do and i never really liked pokemon contests too because they were also boring you just pick a move and you just watch them so that it got really boring for me and yes were almost there show some support people

Something that would speed up the process would be if people could get me D/P NPC sprites in rm2k3 format, as I still have to add in all the NPC's to fill ou tthe game

I liked the back story, it is much deeper than many of the other stories in games. I cant remember if I read this or not... but during your adventure will the Pokemon you capture be used to help repopulate the region, or will there be another method of "capturing" them? Will the story reveal what happened to both the stone and the shard of the stone? Thats all I have for now, good luck getting this completed.

I've always stated the demo would be released at the 300th post, it was a realistic target I set myself.
Initially it was 200, but I got carried away with mapping and features, so over all it benefits you to wait :P
Since people are complaining about the wait, maybe a screenshot will cheer people up.
This was going to be the suprise at the 270th post but I thought I'd be nice since I'm making you wait for the demo.

That's right, it's back. I have spent today coding the major part of the Bug Catching Contest. It will take place every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday just like in G/S/C.
I've had fun creating this little added bonus. I hope it keeps people happy.
Would people like me to add Pinsir and Scyther for all time values?
I can also say that the formula for calculating the winner is pretty close to that of the old version.

No, Bill's PC will be used for pokemon storage, I only just released that the screens look liek they follow on but they dont.
NOTE: the second new screenshot is after selecting the Bill's PC option.

Ah crap, lately when I post, I get errors and my post doesn't save. I wrote a nice comment a minute ago.... lol.
Anyways,
I'm a huge fan of this game and like that you added more screenshots to the update ha.
Someone asked earlier, but I'm sure I know the answer to the question.
I'm guessing in the bug catching screenshot- the blocks to the left of the screen are place holders until you get the right building sprite ya?
And of course the nurse just isn't there because you don't have her sprite. I'll try get you some RM2k3 style DP character sets if I find some, if not I'll just do them myself when I'm free.
Oh and defo add Scyther to the contest :P

I am actually thinking about completely changing the idea of a bug catching contest, instead of you having to battle and catch it, I'm thinking something else, maybe a fun mini-game or something.
I just think that the battles get boring after a while and want to add in extras for peopel to play.
Any ideas anyone?

Well I was thinking about drifting away from a battle of any kinda and having a more realistic bug catch, with a net etc. Obviously I know you can't net a pokémon like scyther, but for the mini game it will have to be that way lol.
Or I may change it to be more like a finding question, different areas have different pokemon etc so searching a tree could let you find a caterpie or wurmple, but searching under a rock may give you nothing etc.
Come on people, input input input. The person with the bets idea, will be scripted as a contestant for the contest.

Um how about since you cant net a scyther you kinda um tranqualize it and send it in? Or for big pokemon like it and pinsir um try and make it friendly by giving it food and stuff. But for the little bugs send an almighty net on them. Also with the ideas youll get in and some other posts I think the demo would come a bit later then post 300.

You'd need a spriter, but maybe you could do this thing where instead of battling, the encounter goes into this mini game where you have to lure a pokemon into a trap and when it steps on the trap- the player must press enter to nab it.
So like, in "battle" instead of having turns- the first thing you do is set the trap- then place bait (the bait will judge how much the pokemon is lured in) that at random, move the spirte of the pokemon on top of the trap sprite. Then the player must press shift (or a random number between 1-9 so he cant cheat) to nab the pokemon.

Yeah I agree.
Well let me give the idea i have so far.
As you choose to enter the contest the screen fades and now you are in the contest mini game, there's lot's of different places for bug pokemon to hide in the background.
You have a menu with your "Bug Kit" detailed in it, things like, bait, net, tranquilliser, and Park Ball etc.
there will be no active pokemon at first, you have to attract them, using the bait, the net will be useful for stopping Pokémon running away and then using a park ball to catch them. The tranq can be used on any pokemon, and weakens the enemy to half hp, thus giving less points for the pokemon.
So it's best to net and then catch it.
Just make the Demo already. It doesn't have to be perfect you know. I'm beginning to think your afraid of what we'll think. But so far you've done a great job.
Also, you don't have to make the demo so long.

Now there's no need to be rude. I'm not afraid of what you'll think, I just want to make the game as good as I can. I am not adding anymore storyline so the demo wont get any "longer".

OK I sincerely apologize for being so childish and unreasonable its just you kept making promises you can't keep.
But on a lighter, more creative note, for the new mini game I was thinking of giving the trainers some sort of cage to catch their Pokemon. And when they are finished with the session they could trade in their caught Pokemon and in return receive them in their poke balls for the small price of 400 "Pokemon currency"

It looks nice but I think you should change the color of the font since its a mini game and you probably want to give it a more unique feel.

Sure maybe a dark green, defiantly not light green because it wouldn't look professional.
As for the window, you should change the border. Maybe a mixture of light and dark green.

Thats so true:
Maybe you should be able to buy the supplies separately, and you will be able to combine them.
Making the tranquilizers shoot out nets so they can capture the Pokemon easier.
Just an idea.
Edit: I meant Having a tranquilizer like gun which shoots out nets

Well I was thinking of just having the tranquillisers put the pokemon to sleep and weaken it a little bit.
And the net will also decrease the chance of the pokemon getting away.
I wont put in the animations just yet, until all the systems for it are done.
I'm hoping to do the same kind of thing for the fishing contest as well.

Its beautiful I love it, except for a few things:
Change the text box two make it green-to-light green.
I really dislike the font, I still think it should be green.

OOH waudby much better. Are you almost finished though? I think you might need to up the count to 400 and then release the demo. Nah lol kiddin 350 is what I wanna see. Oh and fishin. Have a shop with fishing lures and make certain pokemon attracted to that lure. And rods make many rods to have different attributes. Like make it a real rpg with the 100 menu and 100 styles and 100 of everything.

I would like to do that. But I also want to keep it nice and simple. I don't want to make everything more complex lol.
But I will add in the different types of rod etc, they wont change the pokemon you can catch, they will just change how well you can catch, a bit like in real life, having a better rod, doesn't != better fish.
I will also need to really crackdown on my learning to sprite lol. If I want to make a tackle shop.

Good job, this one turned out great,
but I still think you should change the text box to green.
Any ways this is my idea for the fishing:
Maybe when you get a catch, numbers appear at random that you have press,
And the faster you punch in the keys the stronger and faster you reel in the Pokemon.
Its just an idea.

I had an idea for the fishing which incorporates the numbers idea, each turn will require 3 key presses depending on how quickly you press them, it reels the fish in, and then once you've reeled it in far enough you select net and catch it.

The fishing game will start being scripted tomorrow so expect screens at some point during the day.
The way it will work is a suprise at the moment, but let me just say, you need to have quick fingers to really excel at it.

This game isn't made with a starter kit, and the tilesets are by Kyledove (I think).

Okay I'm now scripting the fishing contest.
But I'm looking for some gamer input, I'm making the player have a little customization when it comes to these contests, and the player can choose to use different bit etc.
So what I want is names of different types of bait that you guys would like to see in the game.
Just post your suggestions and i'll put in the ones I like.
EDIT:
Right I changed the windowstyle a bit, got rid of the annoying bulge lol.
I've tested the black font out, I'm not sure if it looks better or worse than with the green font.
So, what do you guys think?

Hmm that's a good idea actually, I'll make some sort of Pokéball bait, sounds good.
I think this is the look that I will go for in the bug contests. The green font doesn't blend as well now as I changed it a little bit, i think it was too light before.

it was so dim because it was night time when I took that screen shot.
After a lot of debating, I decided to remap Sundale Town as I personally thought it was too big and was the first map I done for this game, and it didn't fit in with the now more compact but open ended way of mapping.
Expect more screens later.

o, your night time doesnt look right.
i would sugest adding a blue tint to the shading.

Okay, this is easily fixed, I'll change it a few times and take some screens for people to decide on.
It looks good when playing the game, maybe a bit of blue and slightly dark will help out.
Right I've changed the nigh ttime a little, but it's hard to get something that doesn't look like dark fog XD

No more updates just yet. As i have already said, I have remapped the starting town. I'm now adding in all the npc's to all the maps so far. It's taking a while because i'm having to write all the dialogue from scratch obviously.

I agree,the second one looks better because well,it's NIGHT people,not some random sandstorm that blocks the sun.Night is supposed to be blue,very blue and dark.The first one is too dark brownish!

Nope it's none of those things either.
I'm gonna keep everyone in suspense about that, but if someone does say what it is, I will admit to it.
The demo, is still being worked on. As it is only me doing the work, no team or helpers, then work can only progress as quick as I can make it. Right now I am fixing up some maps that weren't as good as they should've/could've been.
Like i've previously said, the story for the demo is now finished, all that is really left to do, is finish off the basic item using system, check for errors in the battle, finish the bug contest fully, and add in all the NPCs.
I don't want to give another timeframe though, as it just gets peoples hopes up too much.

Nope, nope and nope.
Okay I'll put you out of your misery as to what is across the water, there's an island with two towns on it.
What is important about these, will remain a secret.
I can also now tell you that, the Everglade region has,
- 13 Towns/Villages/Cities
- 16 Routes.
- 1 Mountain
- 1 Lake
- 2 Ports
- And a few caves :P
So know you know what to expect, these could change and more places etc could be added.

You are given your first Pokémon to aid you in going to meet Oak. As you have to travel through Route 01.

The guild is in the 3rd place, yes. It's in Cresent City.
But to get there you have to go through, Route 02, Route 03 and Cresent Forest, so it is still some distance.

That is really cool looking. Just make it slightly darker, and maybe add some shading around the edge.
Other then that, keep it in. I love the idea of fan Pokemon if they fit the look of Pokemon and I think that one does.

Also, many people will think I copied the idea of no HM's in this game, from Protectors, however I didn't lol. But I'm replacing them with a more man made replacement, more on this later.

Yeah many people have come up with the idea of no HMs separately, I did because I just hated having to teach Pokemon useless moves.

I have been extremely busy at the moment so no updates yet, I've had hsoptial checkups to make sure I'm healing properly etc.
The storyline system has been tested many times by me so that is now working fine.
I'd say the demo is about 85% finished now, with the final touches being things like;
-Script the UseItem function that will allow the player to use any item based on location etc.
-Fix the bug in the battle system that occurs when the player runs.
-Finish creating all the NPC's for the demo world.
So as oyu can see it's nearing completion.

Okay so now I have added in, 28 trainer battles for the player to take part in, in the demo.
The only other NPC's left are the ones in the towns, they shouldn't take too long to finish.
The Bag system is coming along nicely, there will only be a few items featured in the demo because I'm entirely rewriting all the items for the game, there will be some standards obviously like potions and pokeballs as well as a few key items and tms.
So now this is your chance to help me out, I want people to suggest items for the game, no key items though as you wont know the story lol.
But things that you may think will come in usefull.

If you like it and decide to take it in ill give you every single one.

I'm saying that there is more than one rare candy--->raises by 1 lvl.
Only one rare chocolate--->raises by 5 lvls.
3 doesn't seem like enough for only one item in the region.

Hmm a power up rare candy... sounds interesting.
I'm not so sure about the legendary items for pokemon idea, i think it's branching off too much then.
How about some hold items, new berries, or a new item type completely?
I'm extending this to usable key items, similar to how you have the bicycle etc.
And how about ideas, to replace HM's?

Oh sorry about that. I like the idea, but i think i'll have to add some extra bits to it, or maybe make it part of the story.
Maybe something like, you recieve Eevee as a special gift and then when you go to a laboratory the scientists say that they can help evolve it if you want as long as you help them out with something.

I have yet to even think about adding breeding, i'll cross that hurdle when i get to it lol.
Keep the ideas coming as well. I think i'll definitely use the multi stone idea, but maybe a better name. I don't like the name lol.
What do people think about some sort of rare apple which can make a Pokémon evolve earlier than they should? It would require the player to find the apple, of which there would only be three in game, and they wouldn't be easy to find.

Ok well for hm mabye for flash you get a flashlight. For surf you um use a jetski! For Fly a jetpack or mabye thats to spyish. Mabye have teleport stands in each town and you need an item to activate each one you have seen. Like you could have a pokegear with registring for teleports and after getting your teleport key where ever you registered you can teleport. Ok enough of the teleporting on to the rest of hms.Um mabye for cut you have a machete? No lol dont cuase you could also use it as a game over excuse. Kid sentenced for life after killin all his pokemon for losing after a 2000th battle. Um lets see. If adding defog mabye you could add a fog light to the flashlight. Oh and use a scooter instead of bike.

The flashlight idea has already been suggested to me on another forum and now the item graphic is being designed for me.
I'm going for a "adventurer's toolkit" so that you can use items from it when necessary, so like, an small axe to get rid of those annoying trees, and inflatable raft, climbing equipment etc etc.

I see everyone is getting rid with HMs? I wonder why lol.
My reason for getting rid of them was not because I didn't to code HMs in or anything like that. The real reason is, people don't plan fan games for long periods. So rather then finding HMs, beating the gym leader so you can use them, then teaching a pokemon. The player can simply find an item and use it lol.

so true i hated that you have to beat a certain gym leader to either do surf or flash even fly that ticked me off so bad and then for the pokemon u have in your party some of them couldn't even learn the moves so you either had to go to the pokemon center and access the computer or you had to go catch a pokemon that could use that move

But with the freedom of sphere, I will make it more than just you have an axe you can cut down a tree, i'm going to make it have a certain amount of uses and then it will be and you have to repair it etc.
Same with the raft, it will have an "inflated" level which goes down the more uses, and gets punctured etc.

Oho so did i give you the idea for the inflatoraft or no. Also liked my teleporters instead of fly or no? I mean you could get the teleporter key in the beginning from the guild. If you are creating guild buildings in every town/city. Mabye the guild could be part of a major rebuildment of everglade project and the teleporter is there first step in help. Good or no.

Also, the teleport system I think would better be called, "fast travel" each town has a point which the player is able to travel to. The fast travel system will take the player to the sign post in each town.
You can use fast travel anywhere outside.

Ahh right. Well i'd say maybe 90% now. Because I have done most of the NPC work today.
I still have to fix up a few things.
Note to everyone: The battle system which is featured in the demo, is going to be reworked as I'm not happy with it at the moment.
Also: Is there anything that I have mentioned about the game that people have questions with?

There are gyms in the game, but more will be revealed about these at a later date.
The bug catching contest is after the 3nd town, after going through Cresent Forest, much like in G/S/C.

YAY! Map packs! Waudby this is truly amazing. and yes I knew it. There is goin to be 2 new regions. Also dont you mean the alpen region which would b based on the alps? Also the new regions if above johto/kanto could they all be conneceted like a 4 way region? Like halfway island could be a in a huge lake/river that takes a boat to a city called tojho square? And from there you first go to kanto and then to johto and finally you reveal that cian wood is really on a huge island connected to the alpen region? Also BOOOOOOOL!

Was the poll added recently? If not, I guess I didn't notice it. :P Anyway, I voted on amazing. The game looks great, Waudby! Everything is looking perfect. I'm not going to suggest any items, as I've got a terrible sense of creativity, but I'm sure the others will be able to come up with something cool.
Oh, about the battle system, I hope you're just changing the coding of it. I personally LOVE that design. It needs to stay! D: Lookin' forward to the demo! I'm sure it'll be amazing, and I can't wait to try out a game made on Sphere for the first time. I've SEEN games being made on Sphere before, but none of them have come close to a beta stage yet (I might be mistaken). All in all, I really love this game!

i've just sent a very basic demo off to be tested, then I have to finish the little bits that are left and fix all the bugs that i can and a release will be ready.
It's part walk around demo, part feature demo lol.
Yeah the battle system coding is just changing you shouldn't notice any cosmetic changes now lol.
I've got the fun of sifting through 3000 lines of code and decided what needs to be changed.

Okay, as much as people will hate me for doing this, I've postponed the demo a little bit longer.
I'm working on this new battle system and I really want it finished and in the demo so people can really see what it's like.
The new battle system has compressed around 3000 lines, down to near 1000. Everything runs smoother, and it's now easier to handle animations etc, like the pokemon bobbing up and down and what not.

I don't mind the delay and I'm sure most people won't Wuadby, so don't worry man.
I revamped my battle system about 2-3 months ago and it will well worth it, ifor both the players, and for me coding it.
Oh, have you added in the Pokemon bobbling up and down? I only did last week lol.
Quick question for ya.
When you say animations, I remember BoodaSack saying Sphere was not really good at handling animations in general. So I know, you said the long term goal is to have attack animations, but how does sphere use them? Like Rm2k3, there is a default animation tab, but like, would you have to do each frame as a single picture for the animation?

The animations woul dhave to be a basic image etc, whihc is why it's so difficult to do attack animations.
But I will try my best, it may limit me to just one type of animation per type i.e fire ice etc.

Okay I've decided to release the game in it's current state, I want to make a release, and well, the easiest way to fix bugs is to have players find them.
It shouldn't be too bad of a release. Items are half usuable, but only outside of battle, and only potions, it's not finished yet.
The reason I am releasing it is because I leave to go on holiday on wednesday and wanted it out before then.
So bare in mind, this isn't the demo as I had wanted, but it is still playable.
Please post comments and criticisms(i have a feeling there will be a lot of these). The coding isn't very good for a lot of the scripts and don't even speak to me about optimisation :P
Also, the towns are completely finished, with the first town being the only town that has NPC's in it other than storyline or scripted characters. It's largely unfinished, but it's best I show people something :P
This also features my crappy old battle system that I'm rewriting.
Don't be too harsh on the comments lol.

There have already been some bugs reported on another site that i released this on, these included;
-Not being able to save.
-Some walls are passable(only because the obstructions that need to go there haven't been scripted yet)
-You already have the Pokegear before your mother gives it to you.
So another extras please add them to a list.

Hmmm i've never even seen that error before :S
I'm guessing it's something to do with the video drivers.
The only thing I can suggest for people who get this error is to head over to the sphere website and download the latest version of sphere.
I think the video drivers may have been left out of the package.

Hmmm these errors have not come up for the people on the sphere forums, If you could reproduce the error, the take a screenshot I can instruct how to fix it.

I tried even opening sphere, then loading your project in it, and doing the test play. I got an error saying:
"SetDisplayMode() Failed"
"Could not switch resolutions. Try configuring Sphere to run in window (not full screen)."
Then just trying to click on the Odyssey exe file, I got the same error that was shown in the screenshot above.
I downloaded the newest version of sphere and still no luck.
