Made with : RPG Maker and Pokemon Essentials
Team :
Imtheomega => Project Director, Scripter and Mapper

Introduction :

Hi. That's the first time I use RPG Maker. I decided to use the starter kit of Poccil to learn the basis of scripting.
As u will see, I'm a foreigner. I come from Belgium and my english could be better.
My mother language is French. So, french people read this, they can find the french thread of the game here (http://pokemountain.actifforum.com/vos-projets-f116/pokemon-true-story-t3085.htm).

For now, the game is it french, but I want to do an english version, so if someone wants to help me to translate it (I can do a first translation and the other person will have to correct it :p), he is welcome.

Anyway, here is the game I've started during february.

Story :

Well, I think all is in the title. I'm creating a game with the true story of pokemon, like in the anime if u prefer.
So, Ash will receive his first pokemon, Pikachu. He will met Misty while trying to escape from spearows. After, he will met Brock and he will have to gain his first badge.

Everyone here certainly knows the story of Pokemon, so I will not go in the details ;).
I dont know yet where it will end. There will be the region of Kanto and if it advances well, there will be other regions but it will always follow the story of the anime.

About the graphisms :

I just want to say that the new graphisms in the game are opensource. U can use it in your game, but please, before doing it, ask if u can use it. The answer will be yes, but that's only to be polite ;p.
And, obviously, dont claim it's yours...

This looks good, the only thing i would change is the size of Pikachu, he could do with been a little bigger.

It looks good! If/When you translate it into English, I can help kink out the grammar if you want.I know a BIT of french too, since I've got a Belgian passport, and my dad comes from there, so that could help/.

It will be a good game.
But the pikachu sprite, it will mess up when you change the resolution into smaller.
You could try to fix it.

Well, for the pikachu, it was a choice for the proportions. But that's right I didn't tought about the change of rezolution. I will perhaps change it to a bigger sprite, but not too big.

Edit : I also put u in the credits, the minigame is not in this demo but that's not a reason :p.

There is nothing to understand for now : it is not the final introduction, it was just to see if it worked. I will modify it later, when I will get better images like a walking Ash, a walking Misty,...

And for the how I did it :

Actually, I saw that a team using another starterkit, the Pokemon Script Project (PSP), had made an intro. They permit everybody to download their version of PSP, but men need to give credits.
When I saw it, I decided to adapt it for Pokemon Essentials. So here it is ;).

To explain how it works in a few words, I would say that the player is teleported to a map on wich there is an intro event. It is very simple if u compare to the script used on Pokemon Essentials to show the two "title screens" (the reference to Pokemon Essentials and the title).

You will probably need to double the size of the pikachu sprites RMXP uses a bigger spriteset than rm2k3 and by the looks of things the pikachu is rm2k3.

@ Tim_0wnz and Waudby : Thank u to read the thread before posting. I already know that people think it is too small but I dont know yet if I will change it or not.

I think it would be a good idea to change it and it wouldn't be too hard as it should be easy to scale it up, just open it in paint and stretch it by 200% to get it double the size, It should mess the proportions up at all. and it may look better, try it and post a screenshot of what it's liek so that people can vote on it.

Uh? I see u have never really done a sprite... Do u know that paint means no transparency?

I never said it was difficult to do it, I said I didn't knew yet if I would make it greater or not.

But doesn't rmxp let you import with transparency of a certain colour?

The last time I used it, that's how I did it.

Yeah, but if the same color is used somewhere else on the picture, u loose it too.

But that's not the subject, it has nothing to do with the game itself.

Sorry, I hadn't seen your answer. Yes there will be Ho-ho. Changes are being made in the pokemon center of viridian. I will modify the events and the discussion about Ho-ho with Prof. Oak will be a part of it.

I just cannot do it right now, because my computer has crashed last friday. It's being repaired but I have to wait until tomorrow, normally, to have it back.

Found a glitch when you double click on the game to execute it, it opens and then it crashes.
"Game.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience".
Not sure if it is a download problem but I just thought I would let you know.
Too bad it does that, I was really looking forward to playing such a great game.

Aqua Mudkip: The game is very good I must say but the Pikachu does not match with Ash's sprite and it also does not match with the environment. Anyways, good game.

Strange. Is it crashing everytime u try? If yes, could u answer some questions : have u windows vista on your computer and have u rpgmaker installed on your computer?

Something else : I'm always looking for graphists. I can do all the scripting and basics things in graphisms like doors, charsets but I need help for harder things like sprites and tilesets.

For example, I need the Pokemon Center of Pewter City like it is in the anime, but that's too hard for me, I'm not skilled enough to do such things. Everyone who is interested can PM me or add me on msn, my msn adress is in my profile.

Yes it is crashing every time. I don't have Windows Vista and I have RPG Maker installed.

In the past I know I have tried this out. I remember downloading it. But I went ahead and re-downloaded it to see if I could mimic what is happening. We will see if it keeps doing it in the next version.


By the way, I have some news : the caterpillard has been improved. Now it contains surfing, running, jumping and cycling. I must thank Poccil once again for his starterkit. It's very well made and so it was easy to find the functions I needed and use them in my caterpillar event.

Some news :

-I've corrected the problem with the shadows caused by the lamps during day. I've also put shadows to the characters of the caterpillar.
-I've added shadows caused by the sunlight. It will move according to the time of day and it will obviously appear only on sunny days.

That's been a long time since I've given the last news.
So here is what I'm doing for the moment :

I'm modifying the event at Viridian City's pokemon center in such a way that it behave much like the anime. It takes a long time because the event is really longer than before and I try to go into the details.
For example, I put a new fog and I put graphics for the talk with Prof. Oak (click on it to see the animation):

I've also made an hour script wich will be used to change the hour in the game for some events (the bugs have been solved by Wichu, many thanks to him).

Yes, I will put a rapishare version, but I have to finish the modifications in the Pokemon center before. And I have also to finish translating into english to make it understandable by everybody here :p.
So let me time to finish this and to finish my exams (I've a last one wednesday and after I'm in hollydays).

I don't want to see another great idea like this die, so can you assure me that you will at least release a demo of a complete region before you give up on this project? And no, I'm not saying you should give up on this project; I want to see you keep going with this as long as possible.

Hopefully this game will get finished.

Sorry, I were in hollydays. Dont worry, I will at least do the region of Kanto. I dont know yet if I will do the other regions, it will depend of the way the game progress.
If other people wanted to join my team, I could say you if there would be other regions or not but for the moment I cannot give an answer.

Well, u can learn how to use it, that's not so hard if u dont use scripts :p.

Yes, the next demo will be in french AND in english. There is an option for the language. That's why the website is also in both languages.
