I got a pop up type thing that said that it dected a parasite on my computer that was montering the websites I visit, and adding pop ups. It's making my computer slower than heck and making programs crash. What is it and what do I do about it?

That sounds like an advertisment... however, to be on the safe side, I'd suggest downloading and installing a spyware/adware removal program.
Ad-Aware and Spybot: Search & Destroy are popular ones.
