Is there any differences in damages when you attack an opponents Pokemon with the same moves in LAN link battling and in IRC and metagame, etc? :paranoid:

I don't think so, its hardware, and i diont think hardware affects gameplay other than AR

What's an AR? Could you explain, pretty please?

Netbattle, IRCbot (or whatever it's called), and Shoddybattle are all coded explicitly to emulate a regular Pokemon battle. Of course there isn't a difference in damage.

Also, why do I get the feeling that you have no idea what half of those terms mean?

AR = Action Replay. It's an external device made for a number of consoles/ handhelds that allow you to cheat in games.

Really? Huh. Define 'metagame'.

Go see Smogon.com and you'll see an example of a metagame. I'm a member there.

Either your grammar is really bad and you're really good at hiding it, or you're trying to cover yourself up.

Also, I said 'define', not 'give me the URL to a well known site so I can see an example'.

Either your grammar is really bad and you're really good at hiding it, or you're trying to cover yourself up.

My grammar? Boy, I'm not writing a book here, it doesn't have to be perfect. Read my sig, I'm just close to perfect. It's like texting (SMS) with your mobile phone, it doesn't have to have perfect grammar. Likewise, whether or not I make a typo, I don't really mind because I just press away with the keyboard. And, pretty much everyone understands my grammar here, mister.

And, about the metagame definition, I don't need to explain it because that's what common sense is for. That's why I referred you to Smogon.com, so that you'll see proper examples. It's like when your younger brother asks you what an operator is. You know pretty well what that is, so better point him to the dictionary so that he can see a better and correcy example of what an operator is.

But for your conveniece, good sir, here's a definition: Metagaming is a broad term usually used to define any strategy, action or method used in a game which transcends a prescribed ruleset, uses external factors to affect the game, or goes beyond the supposed limits or environment set by the game. In other words, sometimes using out-of-game information to affect one's in-game decisions.

Yes, I copy+pasted that because I knew that's what best would convey the definition to you. Got it?

You're welcome.

My grammar? Boy, I'm not writing a book here, it doesn't have to be perfect.

That was an 'either-or' statement. I didn't say you had bad grammar, but it was certainly a possibility. Also, nothing less than absolute perfection is demanded from the internet. >:(

Read my sig, I'm just close to perfect.

Haha, no.

And, about the metagame definition, I don't need to explain it because that's what common sense is for.

Clever rebuttal.

That's why I referred you to Smogon.com, so that you'll see proper examples.

You can't just have 'examples' of a metagame. Metagames don't work that way.

It's like when your younger brother asks you what an operator is. You know pretty well what that is, so better point him to the dictionary so that he can see a better and correcy example of what an operator is.

Why would you do that? If you know what an operator is, wouldn't it be better to just tell him, rather than making him look it up himself?

But for your conveniece, good sir, here's a definition: Metagaming is a broad term usually used to define any strategy, action or method used in a game which transcends a prescribed ruleset, uses external factors to affect the game, or goes beyond the supposed limits or environment set by the game. Yes, I copy+pasted that because I knew that's what best would convey the definition to you. Got it?

Oh no, I already know what a metagame is. I was asking if you knew what it is. Given that you copy+pasted the definition (most likely without reading it), it looks like you don't. If you did, you wouldn't have mentioned 'metagame' alongside Shoddy Battle and NetBattle in your thread title. In fact, most of those terms seem out of place.

*LAN Link: The hell? The DS doesn't use LAN. LAN refers to linking computers via ethernet cables (And yes, I know you can also link consoles and other things via this).
*GBA Link: Okay, who uses the GBA anymore?
*DS Link: Fine, but the DS uses Wireless communications/ WiFi.
*IRC: IRC? You mean Internet Relay Chat, the chat program? How does that have anything to do with battling? Unless you meant DPBot (http://www.smogon.com/forums/showthread.php?t=25328), the IRC battling client.
*Metagame: The metagame is just the pool of strategies and Pokemon used in battling. How the hell does that have anything to do with damage?
*Net Battling: Fine, but it's called NetBattle, first off, and it's for 3rd gen.

You're welcome.

I didn't thank you. >:(

Oh, really? Nothing less than absolute perfection? Does that include your name (not your real one) "airconditioning" which is supposed to be a proper noun and thus, should start with a capital (a big) letter? Perfect.

Haha, no.

Ummm...that was just a catch phrase. Just added it for effect, genius.

Clever rebuttal.

Are we in a debate here? This is an open forum. And even if we were in a debate, a rebuttal wouldn't be in the early parts of it. Not to mention, it's too short for a rebuttal. Didn't notice that?

You can't just have 'examples' of a metagame. Metagames don't work that way.

Isn't Nomic (Go, look it up) an example of a metagame? Oh, wait! How about Magic: The Gathering? Hmmm...how about RPGs? Hey! Wait a second! Isn't Pokemon an RPG??

Why would you do that? If you know what an operator is, wouldn't it be better to just tell him, rather than making him look it up himself?

Why would you send your child to college when you can teach him/her everything that he/she would need in life yourself at home?

Oh no, I already know what a metagame is. I was asking if you knew what it is. Given that you copy+pasted the definition (most likely without reading it), it looks like you don't. If you did, you wouldn't have mentioned 'metagame' alongside Shoddy Battle and NetBattle in your thread title. In fact, most of those terms seem out of place.

Well, big duh, I posted the definition so that I won't just answer "Yes, I know" and wait for your next post that would be a "OK, define it". And, ummm...big duh, how in the world would I have been able to copy+paste it if I didn't read it? Clearly, it's just a paragraph long, so it's pretty obvious that I completely read it in seconds. Oh, not to mention that it's just right in front of me, so reading it really isn't a problem, boy.

What's wrong with placing metagame on the Title line? Is it (Pokemon) not a metagame? And I did ask for the differences and did not ask a "identify which doesn't belong to the group" question.

*LAN Link: The hell? The DS doesn't use LAN. LAN refers to linking computers via ethernet cables (And yes, I know you can also link consoles and other things via this).

Who says it was the DS that I was referring to? Couldn't I use a GBA Emulator on a computer and have a LAN with another computer for a battle? Look at the title. IT says "LAN link/GBA link/DS link/IRC/metagame/net battling". Every "/" sign that is seen there is clearly used as a division or as an "and". So, see here... "LAN link" and then the "/" is seen after it...so it must be separate from DS and GBA. You didn't notice that? So, this LAN, if you used your common sense, would be very obviously be referring to the second sentence of this paragraph. Look it up, honey.

*GBA Link: Okay, who uses the GBA anymore?

Other than me, a lot of people still do. Like, if you've bought a GBA and a cartridge, you might as well use it than just store it away in a box somewhere for the DS.

*DS Link: Fine, but the DS uses Wireless communications/ WiFi.

Ya, that's what I meant.

*IRC: IRC? You mean Internet Relay Chat, the chat program? How does that have anything to do with battling? Unless you meant DPBot (http://www.smogon.com/forums/showthread.php?t=25328), the IRC battling client.

Ya, again, that's what I meant. Can't you see on the title line that "LAN link/GBA link/DS link/IRC/metagame/net" is under the category of battling on that line?

*Metagame: The metagame is just the pool of strategies and Pokemon used in battling. How the hell does that have anything to do with damage?

"Damage" is just one of my examples of a possible difference.

*Net Battling: Fine, but it's called NetBattle, first off, and it's for 3rd gen.

Battling is the present participle of Battle. Just do the math.

I didn't thank you. >:(

You should. I may be the first hot woman that actually replied back at you. It's just too bad, it's on the internet and not personally.

And, oh... I didn't fail to notice your hostility over me mr airconditioning. Where's this going to?

Isn't Nomic (Go, look it up) an example of a metagame? Oh, wait! How about Magic: The Gathering? Hmmm...how about RPGs? Hey! Wait a second! Isn't Pokemon an RPG??

Those aren't metagames. Nomic is a ruleset for a game, and Magic is a TCG.

Why would you send your child to college when you can teach him/her everything that he/she would need in life yourself at home?

There's a slight difference between 'answering a simple question' and 'teaching college level subjects'.

Is it not a metagame? And I did ask for the differences and did not ask a "identify which doesn't belong to the group" question.

First, it's pretty easy to copy-paste without reading, especially walls of text. But that's irrelevant.

It's not that metagame was placed in the title line, it's that it was placed there seemingly hapahazardly among a bunch of other terms that are pretty much irrelevant to it (in the context of the thread title).

Who says it was te DS that I was referring to? Couldn't I use a GBA Emulator on a computer and have a LAN with another computer for a battle?

That's completely retarded, though. In addition, it uses the exact same system as a regular GBA Link, because that's what it's supposed to emulate.

Fine, but it's still retarded.

Ya, again, that's what I meant. Can't you see on the title line that "LAN link/GBA link/DS link/IRC/metagame/net" is under the category of battling on that line?

Then... maybe you should point that out? I understand that it makes you feel good about yourself to say other people should 'use their common sense', but it makes you look stupid if people really think you mean IRC. =/

"Damage" is just one of my examples of a possible difference.

Fine. What does metagame have to do with any other possibly difference?

Battling is the present participle of Battle. Just do the math.

No, the name of the program is NetBattle. Not NetBattling, NetBattle. It doesn't have a present tense.

You should. I maybe the first hot woman that actually replied back to you. It's just too bad, it's on the internet and not in real life.

Fine. What does metagame have to do with any other possibly difference?

It's just my guess that it might be a possible difference. It isn't really a fact. It's an example to lead the answerers on for my question because people might find the differences vague.

No, the name of the program is NetBattle. Not NetBattling, NetBattle. It doesn't have a present tense.

I know that. It's just that, when I used it, it was in that tense. I mean, would you tell your friend "Hey! I'm Netbattle right now!". It would be correct to say "Hey! I'm Netbattling right now!". Got the idea?

Fine, Nomic is defined at a metagame, but Magic is a TCG. The environment of Magic is the metagame.

It was just an anology. Don't take it literally. Duh!

An analogy is supposed to compare two similar thngs or situations. It's a lousy analogy if the two things/ situations are completely different.

Well, I'm different; I actually read what I copy+paste.

You deserve a pat on the back. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v634/Gamerman/Image%20Macros/awesome.gif

So what? I asked what's the difference anyways.

My point was that it didn't seem like you actually knew what it meant.

What's wrong with using a computer as an emulator? I bet a lot of people use emulators of GBA and/or DS.

Nothing's wrong with it, I love emulators. It's just stupid to use Netplay to play Emerald online when you already have NetBattle.

Also, nobody uses DS emulators, as they're currently not fast enough to run most games well. =/

No it's not! Why would it be? I mean, what's wrong with it?

Refer to above post-pick.

No, it doesn't make me feel good. But I think it's already clear that by "IRC", I meant, the IRC battling thingy. That's why I thought you already understood that.

I know what it means, but that's not the point. When you're asking for help, you should always make yourself damn clear.

It's just my guess that it might be a possible difference. It isn't really a fact. It's an example to lead the answerers on for my question because people might find the differences vague.

... Wait, what?

I know that. It's just that, when I used it, it was in that tense. I mean, would you tell your friend "Hey! I'm Netbattle right now!". It would be correct to say "Hey! I'm Netbattling right now!". Got the idea?

Except that's incorrect. You would say, "I'm playing NetBattle!", or "I'm on NetBattle!", or "Hey look guiz, I can do a headstand while playing NetBattle!".

Excuse me, I am in fact, 18 (going 19) years of age and by the way, news flash...women will always want attention; we're high-wired that way. A child, an old woman, an emo, a hottie, or even a tomboy will want attention.

Blanket statement. I find it hard to believe that you speak for the entire female population, considering they number in the billions.

Also, you look 13 from the picture. I thought, anyway. =/

Racist in my opinion is being impatient or cruel to any specific 'group' of people. And I'm 'defending' rednecks because this little girl troll above us is contradicting herself while she insults others.

RESPONSES TO KING TYRANITAR:

AC really just asked what in the world you were talking about, you basically retaliated.

He (AC) said it in a bad way. Like, instead of telling a lady that she looks nice, you'd say: "Nice Tits!". It's a compliment yes, but it's also rude and perverse. The same way if a person would say to another person, "Could you please take a seat?". The idea is fine but the way you conveyed it was rude, so you might not always get a positive response. Just read AC's first few posts and see if it was a good way to convey something.

Plus, I don't really believe just because you're deprived of attention and need it, the entire women population needs it. You just made women look bad on the internet. 'Grats.

Ugh! Oh please, you don't get women, do you? You know what, may be by a slight chance, like say a millions years from now, you'd get a girlfriend or if you already have one, which I highly doubt, try not giving her any attention at all. Or try to experiment on your sister, or your mom or some other close female friend, and don't give them any attention at all. Like, zero. Let's see if everything goes fine. Maybe by then you'll know what I mean. And, FYI, I'm not deprived of attention. I've got more than enough, honey.

Like, you men, it's in your nature to want something sexually oriented from women. It's not the ONLY thing in the world that you will always want, but it's certainly high-wired in your system...unless if you're gay. Likewise, the attention thing..it's not everything we want...but it's certainly a start. Got it?

Ha, not really. A lot of it is mostly crap, edited by trolls.

Not most of it is crap. Some of it are...by some, I mean a large number..but certainly not most of it. More or less, it's still somehow reliable.

Nothing to do with the thread, drop already. kthanxbai.

You know, you should read what that quote actually quoted. Read the former posts first and see that it wasn't me that started that quote. And what is a "kthanxbai"? Is it an "Ok thanks"?

RACISM IS FUN RITE? You contradicted yourself there.

The bold is what you said, the unbold is what you preach. You just contradicted yourself. Way to go >.>

Oh and by the way. Since I know you can't be serious, and are most likely a troll, I have one thing to say: 1/10 Nice try.

First off, racism is not right. I do not, in anyway, support it. I'm sorry if you're Southern American and offended your race. By "redneck", I did not mean Southern Americans. I meant, the type of people that think that can solve any problem with a mug of beer, a shotgun and giving people the middle finger, thinking it's the most awesome thing to do, and thinking that educated people are effeminate wussies that do too much talking and do less fist-fighting. From what I described, you can be a redneck whether you're from New York, China, Africa, Ireland or wherever on Earth. So, it's not racist. Likewise, you can call someone a jerk without the race as basis. And by the way, when you mean "being impatient or cruel to any specific 'group' of people", that's actually stereotyping; not racism.

And, no I did not contradict myself. When I said/typed that: "Wow! That sounds real mature there, bud. Not only do you sound like a redneck, but you also sound like an insensitive a-hole. Can't you two sound like responsible, mature, and refine young adults? Geez! If you got nothing good to say, then don't say anything at all.", that part was the "This is the part where you did wrong".

And when I said/typed this: "Before you go hostile on anyone, analyze the situation first, and keep your composure before acting like a complete jerk. Ugh!", this was the "Preaching part".

Put it this way, when you scold a child for doing something wrong, you have to explain first that what he/she did was wrong. That first part would be when you scold the child. The second part would be the "preaching" part, where you explain what would be the proper thing to do. What I said above falls right under this. Here's en example, oh great King:

(Your child, Gary beats up his male playmate)
You say: Gary! You bad boy! That was an extremely bad thing to do! You acted like a complete jerk! (Take note that this is just a rough example and not exactly the best thing to say to the child in this situation)
(Child bursts into tears and tries to explain himself; you listen; afterwards...)
You say: The next time something like this happens, the best thing to do....etc...etc..

Got the idea, your highness? And in what context do you mean that I'm a Troll?

Whatever. Still not cute.

Fine, Nomic is defined at a metagame, but Magic is a TCG. The environment of Magic is the metagame.

It's nice that we actually agree on something. :)

An analogy is supposed to compare two similar thngs or situations. It's a lousy analogy if the two things/ situations are completely different.

My point of that younger brother analogy thingy is that there are somethings that are best left to that certain person to learn by themselves. Just point them to the right direction.

You deserve a pat on the back. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v634/Gamerman/Image%20Macros/awesome.gif

Of course I do.

My point was that it didn't seem like you actually knew what it meant.

Well, I do. Let's not argue on that anymore, as for the recent posts, It's pretty clear that I do.

Nothing's wrong with it, I love emulators. It's just stupid to use Netplay to play Emerald online when you already have NetBattle.

No, I didn't mean Netplay. I meant a LAN connection between computer GBA emulators. It's easier for the data transfer. Like, if another person plays GBA emulator on a computer at home and wants to battle me, then it's easy to just copy+paste the data on a side-by-side computer and then use LAN for the battle. I don't play Emerald though.

Also, nobody uses DS emulators, as they're currently not fast enough to run most games well. =/

Well, I don't use a DS emulator anyways. I only use the GBA emulators.

Refer to above post-pick.

Yeah, I did.

I know what it means, but that's not the point. When you're asking for help, you should always make yourself damn clear.

Ok, my bad. I'll make myself clear next time.

... Wait, what?

What I meant was that, when I asked what the differences were, some people might answer: "The Spelling!" or "The way it is played" or "The platform that it's on". So, to avoid that, I led answerers to focus on the damage but other differences will still be appreciated.

Except that's incorrect. You would say, "I'm playing NetBattle!", or "I'm on NetBattle!", or "Hey look guiz, I can do a headstand while playing NetBattle!".

Ok, got it.

Blanket statement. I find it hard to believe that you speak for the entire female population, considering they number in the billions.

It's more of a general statement really. Get a girlfriend or some other female friend/relative and give her no attention at all. You'll find yourself in a bad situation. Because women will always want attention.

Also, you look 13 from the picture. I thought, anyway. =/

Well, I guess I do look a bit young on that picture since it was just a side view shot. But, if you'll check out my albums, you'll see that I'm no 13 year old. But, I'll just take that as a compliment, as someday, I'll become a little older and it would be nice to still look young for an old age.

You just struck me as annoying, I guess. =/

Annoying? You mean, annoyingly cute or what? I mean, what did I do to be called annoying? Asking questions isn't annoying now, is it?

RESPONSE TO ARCHEOPTERIX:

The race of rednecks? :|

They aren't a race... more like a demographic. Why are you defending them, anyways?

There really isn't anything wrong about defending rednecks. He (King Tyranitar) just found my statement as racist. It's not what I'm trying to convey though. Check what I wrote above to know what I mean.

RESPONSE TO SOLOPY567:

Thanks for your response! Just you know, you're the only one that actually replied properly. So, thanks.

Got the idea, your highness? And in what context do you mean that I'm a Troll?

I get the feeling that KT doesn't know what a 'troll' is. =/

Netplay = The online function that allows an emulator to play multiplayer online or via LAN. My point was that it's silly to use an emulator for that when you've already got NetBattle and ShoddyBattle, who can already do that.

But, I'll just take that as a compliment, as someday, I'll become a little older and it would be nice to still look young for an old age.

I'd rather you didn't. :(

Annoying? You mean, annoyingly cute or what? I mean, what did I do to be called annoying? Asking questions isn't annoying now, is it?

First, annoying-ness will never be cute. Or, cuteness will never be annoying. But I digress.

It's mostly in the things you say, and how you say them. You come off as arrogant, stuck up, and self-important. Qualities that generally piss me off. >:(

Lastly, to any mods reading this, I'd like to point out that I no longer have any association with this thread, especially with King Tyranitar's posts. Yeah, please don't ban me.

The topic is something else and you're all talking about something else....
Jeez...it's like a debate in this thread. And Nah, the attack damages don't get affected...:\

First off, I simply asked a question in this forum. It was fine and dandy before some people showed up. I expected direct answers like that of solopy567 and C3LEBI-愛. If some people just answer that way...all of this off-topic debating wouldn't be here? Now am I right or am I right?

Oh, here's what good direct answers are:

(...)the attack damages don't get affected...:\

I don't think so, its hardware, and i diont think hardware affects gameplay other than AR

See? If some people just sticked to the topic and just answered the question directly, we wouldn't be having this mess now, would we?

Sarcastic much?

Like I said/typed, the data/file transfer is easier. But thanks for the definition thingy; I thought what you meant was an internet play thing.

I'd rather you didn't. :(

Fine.

Stuck up and self-important? Did you read any of my posts in this thread before you posted in it? It didn't sound 'arrogant, stuck up, and self-important', now did it? You started it. You can't expect someone to be completely nice to you if you start indirectly bashing. If you're mean to someone...they'll be mean back...unless if they're losers that don't have a backbone and just allow you to do all the whooping. If you're nice..chances are, responses would also be nice.

Or maybe, you just don't want secure and fierce (like Tyra) women to talk (in this case type) back to you and would just prefer them to be marveled by your greatness?

Lastly, to any mods reading this, I'd like to point out that I no longer have any association with this thread, especially with King Tyranitar's posts. Yeah, please don't ban me.

As much as you're an a-hole, but I wouldn't want you to get banned over this. No, I'm not being sarcastic.

It's great that you're got female friends. But if you'd let them read this thread, they'd think that you're a meanie too. Try it. And, yeah, you're still a jerk.

No, I didn't mean only in this conversation. I've seen a few of your other posts, and you simply come off that way. And your avatar and sig simply cement that notion. =/
Not that your handling of this thread made me think more of you. I indirectly insulted your intelligence, true, but you completely flew off the handle and became overly defensive and hostile. Jeez.

Or maybe, you just don't want secure and fierce (like Tyra) women to talk (in this case type) back to you and would just prefer them to be marveled by your greatness?

As in Tyra Banks? She's not secure and fierce, just plain crazy. =/

All of you need to be quiet. First of all, this should have gone in a gaming section somewhere, gos knows why it's here. Second of all, I enjoy a good debate, but this is gonig over-the-top the question was "What's the differences between LAN link/GBA link/DS link/IRC/metagame/net battling?"

Simple. A list of differences would have sufficed, and maybe some clerification from Cerisse on what she means. Nice, friendly responses would due as well. Since I see this thread going nowhere, and odds are, no one is going to listen to me, I will close it down.
