Game name: Pokemon Global: Online
Made with: Java, using the Slick and LWJGL frameworks on the client side, Apache MINA and Simple Framework on the server side, Tiled-based mapping system
Introduction:
Pokemon Global is a fan-made MMORPG which is currently being developed. This game delivers an experience similar to that of the original Pokemon games, while adding cool new features, such as online battles and trading. We have further information at our website, http://pokeglobal.net .

Our project is unique among many in that we have a policy of openness. This means that you will be kept posted on development almost constantly. Releases come quickly as well. We also support multiple OSes in accordance with Java support. Macs and Linux computers can also run Global.

We are currently in a development stage; a public release providing maps from New Bark Town to Route 31, starter selection, wild Pokemon, catching, and chat with other players is currently available. The next release plans to include boxes and perhaps PvP and trade.

Story:
You are a new trainer in a region. This can be any region in the world; the stalwart four regions are there, but later one can go to places like Fiore or Holon, among others. Your journey begins when you take your first Pokemon from the local Professor; after that, you are free to choose your destinations. People around the game world offer you quests. The ultimate goal of the game is to achieve Pokemon mastery; however, there are limitless quests that can be done before that is achieved. Like many MMOs, Global does not intend to have a single, unifying plot; instead, it is subdivided into potentially dozens or hundreds of different quests, creating a diverse game experience. Even starting regions can differ between players; it is up to the trainer to choose where they want to start and end. Each player has something to do for themselves.
In special events, you can even face off against fellow trainers in tournaments, as in the Pokemon anime. Legendaries are given real legendary status, being available to only one player each. Another major part of the game experience is team play. Instead of just having a Team Rocket or Galactic to oppose, players form their own teams and face off against their rivals. Join teams/guilds ingame to cooperate with other trainers to reach the top of the Pokemon world. These can be anything you want; evil, good, or neutral, idealistic or mercenary.

Screenshots/Video:
In the way of media, we have several screenshots:

(SCREENSHOTS SLIGHTLY OUTDATED NOW)
These are Windows screenshots, but the game also functions on Mac OS X and Linux. More are available at pokeglobal.net, on the forums and the main site.

Also, here's a video one of our members came up with that I thought would be fun to post: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DlniRdZgrMU (this is not meant to be an ad video XD)

Current Features (0.15 / beta 1.5):

* Twelve starters from four different regions
* Part of the Johto region, stretching from New Bark Town to Route 31
* Money system which can be used to purchase PokeBalls
* Pokemon storage system (*new*)
* Full screen and nicer UI
* Catching wild Pokemon in routes
* Battling Pokemon for experience and money
* Ability to level up, evolve and learn moves
* A Pokemon-style, massive multiplayer game world
* Chat system allowing interaction between players
* Highly accurate battle system, based on Shoddy Battle engine (though not all details such as EVs, stats, and natures are visible to the user right now, almost all moves and Pokemon are implemented in code)
NOTE: There are a few bugs involved if you hold down the spacebar to skip through text. Try to avoid that.

Web Resources and Downloads:
We have a small web site under construction at http://pokeglobal.net . The current version is available in the download section or at http://pokeglobal.sourceforge.net/game/beta.jnlp . The demo is mainly a proof of concept for what we are developing.

Note that there is also a game called Pokemon Global Revolution. This is also made under our banner, but it is offline and done in RPG Maker. We plan to introduce some common elements between them. Some of you may recall seeing this before. I decided to repost after some time because we'd made such radical progress.

Ahh I see, I think you need to update your graphics(video etc) card driver. Go to the pokeglobal forums there's a game help section, I've seen people post with the same problem. The answer might be there.

I checked and the main problem seems to be The graphics card's driver needing to be updated. If you don't know what your graphics card is or where to update the driver at, just ask me.

Well if anyone gets any bugs or cant log in or such ask on the pokeglobalhelp on chat or gamehelp on the pokeglobal forums, or ask here.

Well beta 2 should have pvp, trading, boxes, options, interface.
So far they have got boxes options interface done. I don't know what else they are doing for beta 2.

It's pretty cool, except when you move, it's really laggy (might be my computer).

Otherwise, this game has a lot of promise. =D

That's because it's hard to make a fast moving walking that keeps in sync, he made faster moving though that's still in testing.
Remember this is online, not offline so don't expect the speed on the gba games.

In development (t's always open for you to check on the forums) for 0.2, available in SVN but not on the packaged releases which are hooked to the server:
- NPC vs player battles - 90%
- player vs player battles - 100%
- teams (as in guilds, clans, etc) - 60%
- bugfixes - a lot
- maps - Violet City
- lag removal
- new sprite system/movement fixes (ties in with lag removal)

It promises to be a good release; it'll be out within the first week or two of July.

You are meant to hold space bar to skip the text,
The lag has been delt with. They wait and test the newer things before puting out a new version..

Also I don't know what they use for a server.

The server uses Java. It uses the Apache MINA framework for networking, and xml files for user accounts, as well as for the pokemon database.

Pkmn_knight
July 26th, 2008, 10:35 AM
Yes it can because Pivot's computer is a Mac i'm pretty sure and as long as you have Java installed you can play it on any system that java supports.
Anyway the webpage is currently offline and not sure about the game server, due to bandwith reasons or something i hear.

Screenshots look interesting. A good Pokemon MMORPG could be very successful, if done correctly. Maybe this will be it.

Currently the game server is offline so you can't connect but the release that will let you play to keep calm before the recoded version comes out should come out soon.

Also i can't seem to get on the website.

This has really slow movement and you can't get into houses. Plus, there's no music. It makes it kind of boring. . .

We *are* back up again, with Beta 4, and in light of several changes, the domain has been moved to pokeglobal.org, and Pivot has left us, so I'd appreciate it if someone could change that or give one of the admins(Myself, felty, or Viride) ownership over that post.

Interiors *are* planned for next update, and we'll get music in whenever we can find a sound engine that doesn't lag us horribly. In addition, we welcome anybody with skill in spriting, modelling, Java, Python, or Ruby to help us out in development.

Well first off I would like thank all the support that has been given to this project.

Second I would also like to remind Fshy that B5 *is* planned to go up to the route after Olivine.

What do you know, Pokemon Global is back. And it looks like things are going better this time around. I might start playing again, if I have enough memory left on my computer. Heh, heh.

Oh yes, I'd like to make a point regarding accounts. We *do* try our best to preserve accounts to the full version, but things happen, and account wipes have happened due to corruption issues, etc, and quite possibly will happen again while we are in beta. So, play, have fun, but keep that in mind.
