Okay, some people have hacked the PokéCommunity just at the time of posting. They have SPAM-med announcements and a lot more.

Most will have lost post counts in the resulting cleanups of this. No users have been deleted unless they were the hackers themselves. Please DO NOT fret over any lost posts. I, alone with Kwesi, have restored moderators and such on the move to restore the community to it's previous state.

but pokecommunity is hated by many so isn't really that surprising...

but to hack it? I mean honestly and are you guys going to add anything new to keep this from happening again?

The RPG on my site got pretty much destroyed by a hacker/cracker/******* around the first of last month. I wish people would get a life.

It has happened to all of us. Well, here is my diagnosis of what happened, how they hacked PC and how to stop further intrusions like these.

They used a vBulletin cracker and it uses the includes/config.php file to connect to MySQL and get admin passwords. Now, we should .htaccess protect the includes/ folder like I have on my boards.

I'll go ask my friend about if he knows anything about this goat clan thing or this vBulletin cracker. They're probably a bunch of noob hackers that use simplistic programs to try and make themselves look cool. lol

They somehow gotten their hand on the folders (config.PHP, ETC). I think there's one that have the passwords and stuff? I mean there got to have it or vbulletin can't create acounts.

They used a program called V-Bulls*it! a password cracker! And I found theirt site! it's nasty!

The logical thing to do would be to do a whois look up, and report them to their local authorities. Either that OR report this to the FBI

Pfft, reporting them won't do anything. Hacking groups aren't stupid enough to make it easy to find out who they are.

They may have been using a proxy, so it would be much harder to find their true IP.

A proxy is a way of connecting to the internet through... a different method I think. =/

I'm not quite sure, but i know it's one way of hiding your IP.

it was pretty late when it was hacked it was around 3-4 am in my time (eastern time) I just got home and was talking to a mod when it happened. Stuff slowly was changing. First Zapchu's name the the site name then after what seemed like only 5 mins they took it offline and everyone was unbanned (that was) admins de-admined and announcements spammed.

it was a site too see XD it sure beats the time when i accidently deleted PW hahaha

im just glad PC is back up and functional

I don't know when it was hacked. But a1337a was the one who told me that it was being hacked. I dind't see anything until she pointed out the "Owned by ******" thing...I think that's what it said. Why ******...

I don't think I lost any posts. And if they had access to the PC, wouldn't they know each and every individual PC member's IP number since mods can see our IPs.

Firewalls won't do much to stop a hacker. Ever see the commercials where people get their identities stolen? In one of them, the person who "lost" their identity was using a firewall that got hacked.

The hackers used a password cracker, called Vbullshit, and got the admin passwords and messed with members. Goats.e is a perverted gaming clan, they play a online Hacked PC game. They probly hate pokemon so they just hacked us for fun.

They are not bragging about it, but I know thier site and forums because it is the same Goats.e clan, but they are PC game hackers, and they hack the games into porn. I can PM someone the site URL....... And we would be able to hack them but they are hosted by a college. and I don't know how to hack php BB, their forum host.

Firewalls are really no protection.
It'd the M&M scenario.
People with a firewall think that they're protected, so they do nothing else to help secure their box.
Like an ordinary M&M, hard on the outside, soft on the inside.
People who know better also secure their machine on the inside, in addition to their firewall.
A peanut M&M. Hard on the outside, harder on the inside.

for some reason which only started happening on sunday night, my firewall blocks access to this site, it comes up with a "unable to add header" for the cookies.

and on almost a smiliar topic, i couldnt remember my password at first so i used the "forgotten password" link. 6 times between last night and now - almost 12 hours time - and i still havent received an email. is this due to the PC being hacked?

ENOUGH immaturity towards the hackers. You can't say anything about them like what most of you are saying. No I am not on their side, but I should be closing these discussions like the rest have ended up being.
