Aquilae
June 15th, 2008, 02:56 AM
So I was bored one Saturday night. I logged in to ABYAY's server to lurk and hopefully have a couple of decent battles. I knew my prayers were answered when Dark_Azelf logged in to the server, so I decided to challenge him....
Rules:
Evasion Clause
Freeze Clause
OHKO Clause
Sleep Clause
Species Clause
Key:
Anything black and bolded is the battle log.
Anything green and bolded has to do with me (Aquilae) and my pokemon
Anything blue and bolded has to do with Dark_Azelf and his pokemon
Anything dark blue is my commentary on the match
Anything black is to do with the main chat, people entering or leaving
My team: (in order of appearance)

Note: Dark_Azelf's team would not be revealed at the start, to add to the suspense.
All Leftovers recovery will be mentioned initially, then omitted. Similarly, all Sandstorm damage will be mentioned first when the Sandstorm comes into play, then omitted. All nicknames will be omitted.
Aquilae sent out Zapdos.
Dark_Azelf sent out Zapdos.

Aquilae: Epic Showdown
Dark_Azelf: =p
Epic commenting!
Both of us open up with the same pokemon, Zapdos. Obviously both of us are never going to beat each other one-on-one, so I switched to a definite Zapdos counter...
Aquilae switched in Swampert.
Zapdos used Discharge.
It doesn't affect Swampert...
I'm wary here as Zapdos can easily outstall Swampert given that it does not have Roar. Hopefully Dark_Azelf would switch out giving me time to setup Stealth Rock which would hinder Zapdos' walling capabilities.
Syaoran has entered the room.
Dark_Azelf switched in Bronzong.
Swampert used Stealth Rock.
Pointed stones float in the air around Dark_Azelf's team!
Bronzong is definitely carrying Hypnosis - Swampert would beat it one-on-one otherwise. Predicting the Hypnosis, I go to Zapdos, which has Sleep Talk...
Aquilae switched in Zapdos.
Zapdos is exerting its pressure!
Bronzong used Hypnosis.
Zapdos fell asleep!
Syaoran: free stealth rock anyone?
Aquilae switched in Swampert.
Bronzong used Stealth Rock.
Pointed stones float in the air around Aquilae's team!
Bronzong would manage to get Stealth Rock up which means my two SR weak pokemon - Salamence and Zapdos, won't live too long due to my lack of a spinner.
At this point I started thinking - Why would D_A (Dark_Azelf) switchin Bronzong into Swampert just for Hypnosis? Wouldn't there be better options to deal with it? It should be that Swampert walls some if not all of his pokemon - he has no ways of efficiently dealing with it.
Dark_Azelf switched in Starmie.
Pointed stones dug into Starmie.
Starmie lost 12% of its health.
Swampert used Hydro Pump.
Swampert's attack missed!
Starmie's leftovers restored its health a little!
Starmie restored 6% of its health.
Starmie used Rapid Spin.
Starmie blew away the spikes!
Swampert lost 2% of its health.
Swampert used Earthquake.
Starmie lost 51% of its health.
Swampert's leftovers restored its health a little!
Swampert restored 6% of its health.
Dark_Azelf: Ouch..
Syaoran: noob
Don't you just love Syaoran's enlightening comments?
I just went with the move that would be most damaging to Bronzong.
Here Starmie cannot harm Swampert sufficiently unless it carries Grass Knot which is mostly not considered due to its poor type coverage.
At this point my impulsiveness kicks in, I Earthquake expecting a Surf or an Ice Beam, both which Swampert can take. Earthquake is a 2HKO so it would be forced to Recover giving me a free turn.
To my surprise, D_A used Rapid Spin only to get hit in the face by a STAB Earthquake. Since Starmie is unlikely to stay in, or if it would it would Recover, I decide to set the Rocks up again.
Dark_Azelf switched in Bronzong.
Swampert used Stealth Rock.
Swampert used Hydro Pump.
Bronzong lost 30% of its health.
Bronzong used Reflect.
A barrier was formed!
Bronzong's leftovers restored its health a little!
Bronzong restored 6% of its health.
Ambient: XD
Ambient: SR Again
Aquilae switched in Zapdos.
Zapdos is exerting its pressure!
Pointed stones dug into Zapdos.
Zapdos lost 25% of its health.
Dark_Azelf switched in Starmie.
Pointed stones dug into Starmie.
Starmie lost 12% of its health.
Zapdos's leftovers restored its health a little!
Zapdos restored 6% of its health.
D_A switched to Bronzong, allowing me to get Rocks up again. I sensed an opportunity to wear Bronzong down further, due to its lack of recovery, so I used Hydro Pump.
Bronzong set up Reflect, which I was certain was for Starmie, cushioning the blow from Swampert's Earthquake to stand a chance of defeating it. I predicted a switch to Starmie, so I switched to Zapdos which would tank Starmie.
Dark_Azelf switched in Tyranitar.
Tyranitar's Sand Stream whipped up a sandstorm!
A sandstorm brewed!
Pointed stones dug into Tyranitar.
Tyranitar lost 12% of its health.
Zapdos is fast asleep!
Zapdos used Sleep Talk.
Zapdos used Hidden Power.
Tyranitar lost 11% of its health.
Arrgh, Tyranitar. This basically locks me into a deadly mindgame, either Zapdos stays in and risks Stone Edge/Earthquake (after Roost), or it switches out and gets hit by Pursuit.
I remember my previous battles with D_A, the times where he Pursuited Zapdos rendering it useless for the rest of the game. I decided to stay in and hopefully tank Pursuit with Roost.
There has been many instances like this when the randomness of Sleep Talk has let me down, so I decided to just wait for Zapdos to awake and Roost.
Zapdos is fast asleep!
Tyranitar used Pursuit.
Zapdos lost 39% of its health.
Zapdos is fast asleep!
Tyranitar used Pursuit.
Zapdos lost 36% of its health.
Syaoran: no ice beam? no grass knot? NOOB
Dark_Azelf: eww
Zapdos woke up!
Zapdos used Roost.
Zapdos restored 50% of its health.
Tyranitar used Pursuit.
Zapdos lost 34% of its health.
Tyranitar's reflect wore off!
Syaoran: hahahah
Aquilae: =D
Dark_Azelf: fail...
Actually Zapdos is Calm and SDef EVs so Ice Beam wouldn't scratch it off Tyranitar's sad base 95 SpA.
Anyway I stayed in to tank Pursuit, looking at the damage it is clear that this is a Choice Banded Tyranitar D_A is using. Zapdos awakes at just the right moment allowing it to Roost off the Pursuits.
Dark_Azelf switched in Bronzong.
Pointed stones dug into Bronzong.
Bronzong lost 6% of its health.
Zapdos used Roost.
Zapdos restored 50% of its health.
Zapdos used Thunderbolt.
Bronzong lost 32% of its health.
Bronzong used Hypnosis.
Zapdos fell asleep!
Bronzong switches in, and I wear it down further with Thunderbolt knowing that it can't hurt Zapdos, Zapdos can absorb Sleep and Reflect does not bother Zapdos in the least.
Dark_Azelf switched in Tyranitar.
Tyranitar's Sand Stream whipped up a sandstorm!
Pointed stones dug into Tyranitar.
Tyranitar lost 12% of its health.
Zapdos is fast asleep!
Zapdos used Sleep Talk.
Zapdos used Hidden Power.
Tyranitar lost 13% of its health.
Aquilae switched in Swampert.
Pointed stones dug into Swampert.
Swampert lost 6% of its health.
Tyranitar used Crunch.
Swampert lost 47% of its health.
The big dino comes in and threatens Zapdos again. Seeing as D_A is unlikely to repeat Pursuit earlier, I switch to Swampert. Swampert takes 47% from Crunch, leaving it at a position where the next Crunch would stand a chance to KO it.
In desperation, I switch to my only Dark resist:
Aquilae switched in Heracross.
Pointed stones dug into Heracross.
Heracross lost 12% of its health.
Dark_Azelf switched in Bronzong (lvl 100 Bronzong).
Pointed stones dug into Bronzong.
Bronzong lost 6% of its health.
Aquilae switched in Vaporeon.
Pointed stones dug into Vaporeon.
Vaporeon lost 12% of its health.
Dark_Azelf switched in Salamence.
Salamence's intimidate cut Vaporeon's attack!
Pointed stones dug into Salamence.
Salamence lost 25% of its health.
Salamence's leftovers restored its health a little!
Salamence restored 6% of its health.
Vaporeon's leftovers restored its health a little!
Vaporeon restored 6% of its health.
Dark_Azelf: =/
Yeah, so for some reason he runs away from Swampert, back to Bronzong to put up Reflect I think. Considering that I use a ScarfCross - Bronzong's Gyro Ball would hurt a lot and it would be potentially fatal to Heracross banking on its high speed.
Not to mention Megahorn wouldn't stand a chance of KOing Bronzong, according to the EV spread that D_A uses (Impish with Def and HP EVs).
I switch out to Vaporeon to scout for counters to Heracross, as it beats common physical walls one-on-one. Except Salamence.
Judging by the nature of its switchin, and the fact that it held Leftovers, it is most probably a BulkyMence, either the DD variant or the Toxic/Draco Meteor variant.
It most probably won't stay in Vaporeon with the threat of Ice Beam, so I Wish on the predicted switch and try to heal Swampert and Heracross.
Dark_Azelf switched in Starmie.
Pointed stones dug into Starmie.
Starmie lost 12% of its health.
Vaporeon used Wish.
Vaporeon made a wish!
The sandstorm rages.
Vaporeon's leftovers restored its health a little!
Vaporeon restored 6% of its health.
Starmie used Rapid Spin.
Starmie blew away the spikes!
Vaporeon lost 3% of its health.
Vaporeon used Hidden Power.
It's super effective!
Starmie lost 51% of its health.
Dark_Azelf's Starmie fainted.
The wish came true!
Vaporeon restored 50% of its health.
Syaoran: wish bliss illegal DA you can no longer protect on my Explosion
Syaoran: =D
Dark_Azelf: edkfnrgdv
Aquilae: You can still use it on this server
Dark_Azelf: fail prediction =[
Syaoran: this server sucks then
Starmie comes in after a Wish. Since switching to Zapdos means that Tyranitar gets a free turn to deal more damage, I decide to leave Vaporeon in - it can take an UnSTABed Thunderbolt from standard Spinner Starmie and recover off the damage with Wish.
To my surprise Starmie stays in to.. Rapid Spin while it is down with HP Electric.
D_A makes a very intelligent comment here, I am in agreement about edkfnrgdv.

Aquilae: MS-Dos sucks IMO
Aquilae: =/
Dark_Azelf: >=[
MS-Dos! (Metal Sound Zapdos)
I kinda agree that MS-Dos sucks as it can't hit its counters hard even with Metal Sound, and it is easily nullified by switching. Zapdos won't use Discharge on Swampert so I switch to Vaporeon to take the Hidden Power [Ice].
Actually I was threatened by MS-Dos as it could beat Swampert and I would be forced to switch in Heracross or Metagross to deal with it.
Zapdos used Metal Sound.
Vaporeon's special defence was harshly lowered.
Vaporeon used Wish.
Vaporeon made a wish!

Ambient has left the room.
I take the predicted Metal Sound, Wishing and passing to Swampert which is healed by the Wish, which could force Zapdos to Roost allowing for a KO from Earthquake, or take HP Ice and Avalanche back.
Dark_Azelf switched in Blissey .
Swampert used Stealth Rock.
The sandstorm rages.
Blissey's leftovers restored its health a little!
Blissey restored 6% of its health.
Aquilae switched in Heracross.

Heracross used Stone Edge.
It's not very effective...
Bronzong lost 12% of its health.
Blissey switches in while I get Rocks up. Mixpert cannot deal with Blissey so I switch to Heracross to take the Seismic Toss seeing as Blissey probably won't use Thunder Wave.
A good move on D_A's part, using Bronzong to take the predicted Stone Edge; now Heracross takes a hard hit - it cannot afford to come in anymore given that residual damage is adding up.
Ambient has entered the room.
Aquilae switched in Swampert.
Pointed stones dug into Swampert.
Swampert lost 6% of its health.
Bronzong used Reflect.

Blissey used Seismic Toss.
Zapdos lost 26% of its health.
Aquilae's Zapdos fainted.
Ouch, so Zapdos didn't pick Roost after all, a 4/9th chance. Well, Zapdos couldn't do much right now considering that it can't stop any of D_A's pokemon except Bronzong, which 2 remaning members of my team can do.

Okay.. I get met up with Salamence. Either:
D_A knew that I knew he wasn't going to switch to Salamence and thus played at face value
D_A for some reason thinks that BulkyMence can take on ScarfCross with Stealth Rock up (it can't, due to Hera outspeeding and doing ~40% average damage, landing 2 hits, one on the switchin)
D_A made a completely random move
In retrospect it would be beneficial for Zapdos to stay in and scout for Hera's move, switching out basically gurantees a KO since Stealth Rock is up.
I just sacrificed Hera to allow my Salamence "counter" to come in unharmed...

Pointed stones dug into Blissey.
Blissey lost 12% of its health.
Salamence can't take Blissey on due to Ice Beam being present on Blissey, and without a prior boost from Dragon Dance and significant Attack EV investment, as well as good physical attacks, Salamence would be hard-pressed to deal more than 50% to Blissey.
I can't send in Metagross now as Blissey outspeeds and KOs it with Seismic Toss. I switch to my remaning team supporter...

Vaporeon lost 22% of its health.
Vaporeon is paralysed! It can't move!
With that untimely paralysis, Vaporeon can't get in a Wish enough to save itself. I try to get in a Wish to pass to Salamence in the hopes that I get a critical hit on Blissey (unlikely)
This is probably the turning point of the whole battle, Dark_Azelf is now almost guranteed of winning.

The second paralysis secures D_A's victory. It was just like rubbing salt into my wound, now I would have to count on Salamence and Metagross to finish the game which is unlikely.

Dark_Azelf switched in Bronzong.
Swampert used Stealth Rock.

Dark_Azelf: Ouch..

Pointed stones dug into Salamence.
Salamence lost 25% of its health.
Heracross used Close Combat.
It's not very effective...
Salamence lost 19% of its health.
Heracross's defence and special defence was lowered.

Salamence lost 20% of its health.

Salamence used Dragon Claw.
Heracross lost 104% of its health.
Aquilae's Heracross fainted.

Aquilae switched in Salamence.
Salamence's intimidate cut Salamence's attack!
Pointed stones dug into Salamence.
Salamence lost 25% of its health.
I EV'd my BulkyDDMence to outspeed base 125s after one Dragon Dance, which basically means it handily outspeeds and beats standard BulkyMence by a few points.
Intimidate also works in my favor allowing me to take a Dragon Claw from D_A's Salamence.
Salamence used Dragon Claw.
It's super effective!
Salamence lost 86% of its health.
Dark_Azelf's Salamence fainted.
Salamence lost 10% of its health.
I score a KO on Salamence.

Dark_Azelf switched in Blissey.
Aquilae switched in Vaporeon.
Pointed stones dug into Vaporeon.
Vaporeon lost 12% of its health.
Blissey used Thunder Wave.
Vaporeon is paralysed! It may be unable to move!
Dark_Azelf has cornered my team. I cannot get off a Wishpass to Metagross or Salamence due to both of them being slaughtered by Blissey. I decide to Wish and Roar shuffle to get Tyranitar/Zapdos on the field and take down Tyranitar, but it is quite doubtful.
Blissey used Seismic Toss.
Blissey used Seismic Toss.
Vaporeon lost 22% of its health.

Aquilae's Vaporeon fainted.
Dark_Azelf: =/
I agree Dark_Azelf, =/
The second paralysis secures D_A's victory. It was just like rubbing salt into my wound, now I would have to count on Salamence and Metagross to finish the game which is unlikely.

Forgetting Metagross was in KO range and slower I stupidly sacrifice it. If Salamence could just pull off a critical hit....
