INTRODUCTION
AndyP159 and Magneto20 return with an exciting new sequel to Septo Conquest!
STORY
You play as Lance, who has woken up in a samaritan's house with amnesia. He and rival Rod were found in the same spot, one week apart, both with no recollection of past events or even their names. Lance is taken by a Professor to his lab, where he receives a Pokemon. Rod also receives a Pokemon and they set out on their quest to regain their idenities.
This is where the game then splits into one of the 3 possible 'parallel' storylines that you can play.
What are 'parallels'?
Put it this way: Everyone goes through their lives making choices. Each choice will have a different outcome. When you make the choice, what happens to the other options? Do they just disappear?
Well... probably. But anyway, that's the idea behind parallel universes; each choice has a different outcome, and this is what the 'parallel's are about.
At the start of the game, Lance will make a choice, it can go three ways. Whichever he chooses will determine the rest of the events of the game, which are all different depending on which parallel you play through.
CONCEPT OF POKEMON: THE PARALLELS
For any of you who have played the Sega Saturn game Dark Saviour, the mechanics of this hack might seem familar (yeah, that game is the inspiration of this game, which was fantastic). Pokemon: The Parallels is basically three games in one. In each version of the game, the main character, Lance (the Elite 4 Lance, but with a radically enhanced personality) traverses the land (yet to be named), in search of his memories (he's an amnesiac). In each game, he gets caught up in a series of quite different events. I'll give you an example:
In one section of the game, Lance will arrive at a town called Galuf Town. In each version of the game (called a parallel), a different event will happen:
Parallel 1: All the townspeople are dead, having being killed by 2 psychopathic criminal genuises. Galuf Tower, a tall building housing ancient Pokemon and talismans, has been trashed and as a result Lance can only explore the ground floor, where the only survivor challenges Lance to a Pokemon battle as he believes Lance is in league with the aforementioned 2 criminals.
Parallel 2: Lance arrives in Galuf Town, and as in Parallel 2 the 2 criminal psychopaths have already been defeated and killed, all the townspeople are alive and buslting. Galuf Tower has NOT been trashed so Lance is free to explore the entire tower, whereupon he can meet the person he battled with in Parallel 1, but doesn't fight him (as the person has no reason to attack him as the tower has been trashed).
Parallel 3: A cosmic disaster rips apart the land and the townspeople all flee in terror, leaving the entire of Galuf Town (and Galuf Tower) completely empty.
For another example of how the story may work:
The first leg of the story, and the only part of the story that remains the same in all 3 Parallels of the game, finds Lance arriving on a small island. He is amnesiac and does not know much about himself. He heads to a lab where a professor claiming to be his friend gives him a choice of Pokemon (the starters differ depending on the parallel). The Showman and Carl Phasno, 2 criminals in search of legendary Pokemon so they can become the world's most powerful trainers, burst into the lab demanding information from the professor. This is where the game then splits into the 3 different parallel storylines of the hack:
Parallel 1: The Quest for the Legendaries: The Showman and Carl Phasno (the main enemies in parallel 1) kill the professor and destroy the communications system, then flee. The world then doesn't know that the Showman and Carl Phasno are on a rampage to find 10 legendary Pokemon, and Lance must track them down and defeat them.
Parallel 2: The quest for the Memories: In this parallel, Lance defeats the Showman and Carl Phasno in the lab, so they are no longer a threat. Lance then spends the rest of this parallel regaining his memory, finding familiar faces and battling against the 4 Lords, who are the main enemies in this parallel.
Parallel 3: The Quest for the Dimensions: The Showman and Carl Phasno escape the lab but the communications system isn't destroyed, so the professor can warn the world against the 2 criminals and Lance can find and defeat them much quicker. But then SOMETHING (I won't say, it'll spoil the whole hack) really bad happens, bringing all 3 parallels together for an epic conflict. Cities get destroyed, people panic and Lance must hunt down the person who is responsible for the mess. This parallel brings all the storylines together so leaves no questions or storylines up in the air.

This sounds cool!
Three parallels, eh? Cool...
Well, I just found something weird.
In Parallel 1 and 2 you say "The tower has been trashed"
Is it really meant to be trashed in Parallel 2 as well?
Well, good luck!

No, that was a typo. In Parallel 2 the tower isn't trashed, everyone is alive and everything is neat and tidy (completely opposite of Parallel 1).
Anyway, hello! It's been a while.
Anyone know why this thread has been moved to the scarpbox?
Okay, so, updates:
Lance Adventures is now going to be a hack of Emerald, because it would suit the parallel system better as there's more variety.
Each Parallel is going to have a different villain. In Parallel 1 the main villains are The Showman and Carl Phasno, two psychopathic criminals (think Joker from the Dark Knight). In Parallel 2, The Showman and Carl Phasno are dead, so the main villains this time are the "Four Lords". Basically they are the four lords over the four natural elements; Air, Earth, Fire and Water (though in the case of the pokemon types, it'll be Flying, Ground, Fire and Water). In Parallel 3, The Showman and Carl Phasno are still running around very much alive, but they're not the big threat they are in Parallel 1. Instead the main villain is Lance's foil, called Rod. It hasn't been decided whether the Four Lords will feature in Parallels 1 + 3 in some way yet.
I have 2 screenshots for you people:
Here, Lance explores the first town, Ceil Town, after waking up in a good samaritan's house with no recollection of how he got there (his amnesia issues will be fully explored in Parallel 2).

I wish people would stop saying this, Emerald is not that unstable, in fact it is just like hacking any other ROM. And yes i backup every night, as i did with my other hacks. Untill you have hacked Emerald yourself, you guys need to stop saying that Emerald is unstable.
And on topic: Good luck with this Hack, i like the Lance idea. Very original.

Salutations to everyone. I have news!
Our first hack, Septo Conquest, is so close to completion so then we'll be able to do much more substantial work on Lance Adventures. Hooray!
We'ce come up with a new character recently: Lancelot. He's Lance's grandfather and plays a major part in Parallel 3. Also we were considering incorporating Clair (the 8th gym leader from G/S/C) into Lance Adventures.
And now for something we haven't done on this thread yet: a screenshot explanation of differences between the Parallels. Hopefully this will make the parallel system very clear to everyone.
In Ceil Town, the very first town Lance explores, there's a kid standing near a house. Depending on which Parallel one plays, his speech differs:
PARALLEL 1

Emerald isn't that unstable, but funny things can happen to it. Once, I tried to edit the tileset for a map, but when I load the tileset having made a few minor changes, the whole tileset became irrepairably the corner of a blue tree, destroying my map I had spent 2 hours making.
Yes, I know I should have backed up earlier, but there we go, funny things just seem to happen with emerald.
Also, some programs don't work with emerald.

Thanks a lot! I'm glad people are pleased!
Anyway, I'm Andyp159, and co-producer of this hack!
We are currently waiting for a thread of Lance Adventures to be accepted into the Hack's Showcase, so until then, we are using a combination of this thread, and the prequel to this hack, Septo Conquest, which can be found within the Hacks Showcase section. (I would put up a link but i don't have enough posts to be able to at the minute).
In other news, we are currently working on some new scripts (perhaps some more sophisticated ones than before), some entirely new tile sets, (and editing some already existing ones to suit our needs more specifically) as well as the editing of the evolution of POKeMON, so you can catch all POKeMON - for example, machamp now evolves into Machoke at level 40, instead of through a trade, (which is obviously impossible on such ROMS), and the same applies to other pokemon, such as PORYGON, ONIX etc, as well as the EEVEE evolutions UMBREON and ESPEON, which were always very difficult to get in the original Emerald.
In edition, we are editing the POKeDEX data, and plan on getting some more screenshots showing further progress very soon. We are even having a mess around with importing new music into the games, however we haven't had much success with that yet.
For anyone who played our debut hack, Septo Conquest, I think we all agree that our hacking skills have progressed far since we began that hack just over a year ago.
Hopefully more screeshots of progress will be on the way soon!

Yes, we are afraid they are for the time being. We COULD possibly put all of the ideas into one ROM at a later date, but for the time being we are sticking with three ROM's. Appologies for ruining it if you were thinking our scripting would be ABSOLOUTELY AMAZING!
Anyways, it turns out the thread has been moved to the hacks shocase - HOORAY!
Thansk to BLAIZCHU and SEMELE!
Also, i've FINALLY reached 15 posts, so can put Screens! Hooray!
Now, for those who don't know, our worrk on our debut hack, Septo Conquest has come to an end, as it has been released. It can be downloaded here:
http://www.pokecommunity.com/showthread.php?t=133175
This gives us much more time to spend on Lance Adventures, (unless more game threatening glitches are found.) However, we are trying to make sure that this game (Lance Adventures, not Septo Conquest) is as glitch fre as possible. We have started work on the routes after the second town, and hopefully more screenshots will arrive soon. Also, some work has been done developing some walking OW sprites for Lance, as well as the additions of some new scripts and events, as these screens show:

Here, this man upgrades Lance's Pokedex to the National Dex, enabling you to catch all the pokemon, right up to the Hoenn generation, (around 380 something i believe.)
(we are aware that the scripts are VERY bacic, but lets be honest, SEPTO CONQUEST got some MAJOR criticisms for the scripting we did there - we are learning all the time.)

By any chance, did you get the idea of Lance's rival, Rod, from the Pokemon Trading Card Game for the GBC? If so, it would make complete sense, as Rod from that game is pretty much a rehash of Lance anyway.

Thanks! Me and AndyP159 strive to be as original as possible (and we hope people will actually play Lance Adventures three times! Or esle they'll miss out all the cool plots that we've brainstormed if they only play a single parallel.)

Being an English geek myself, I know how you feel. I apologise for all the grammar errors in Septo Conquest, they were the result of either me being extremely tired while typing or AndyP159 typing so fast that he doesn't notice he mispells things. And yes, there will definitely be NO grammatical errors in Lance Adventures! :)

That is good to hear - also I am glad to hear you liked the humour.
Anyway, We have been recently been working on improving the beginning of the game (the bit with the truck) and where you get your pokemon from. This will change slightly in each parallel, but I am bringing some screnshots of the new scripts. These will run alongside existing scripts, such as the mother's original script. (yes, we are aware that it is not as 'original' but meh)

Right now the chances of that are very unlikely as there are going to be a lot of dead bodies in Parallel 1, some of them just generic trainers, so it's not on the top of our to-do list right now.
But good idea!

I found a glitch! 1: You can't go into any of the houses in Ceil Town. 2. If, in Rydia Port, near the entrance, you go to the Pokemon menu, and close it, you'll BECOME the Showman grunt blocking the Pokemon Fanclub (which is incorrectly labeled the Pokemon TRAINER Fanclub) and be able to go into the Fanclub.

If you can't enter any of the houses in Ceil Town, then you must have a bad Emerald ROM, as we've never had that problem when we were testing it. The Showman Grunt glitch is a bit odd. I'll have a look at it soon to see if anything can be done about it. But remember - save regularly!
Anyways, hello everyone!
I have good news! The first trailer for Lance Adventures is online, so you can watch it here: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=cx3TqozJgmg
(Note: Please ignore the spelling mistake about 1:20 in, I assure you it has been fixed. Also, a second trailer will be available a few months down the line when me and AndyP159 have done some more work on Lance Adventures.)
Please take 2 minutes out of your day to watch it.
Cheers.

It's not a priority, but yes, it's very likely that there'll be a brand new sprite for Prof. Pat.

We're aware updates have become a bit slow this month, but fear not!
We'll have some more updates, screenshots and the like very, very soon.
Also, keep an eye out for our other hack, Septo Conquest, as something HUMUNGOUS is being planned for it soon, but we're keeping it under wraps at the moment...

Hey, it's turning out pretty cool.
Thing is, when you said that you have no spelling mistakes in this one, Professor is spelt wrong.
Anyway, the satirical humour doesn't always work, specially not in a Pokedex, which was created by a world famous Professor. You'd think that they'd put proper stuff in the descriptions, right?

This hack is not bad, but I don't like more, that have tiles and pallettes of emerald, I prefer that you change this...
You can insert tiles DP or FR, and send out the tiles and paletes for emerald..
The scripts looks very well!
PS: You can use clair to be a female protragonist ^^
Lance, is a good idea!
Good luck

Well AndyP159 wrote the bit with the "Professer", so blame him.
And what's wrong with a bit of satirical humour? Anyway, in Lance Adventures the Pokedex isn't created by a world famous professor, nor a professor of any other kind. Just who created the Pokedex will be revealed later.

OK, when we came up with the idea for this hack, it was originally going to be a Fire Red hack. However, we were bored to death of hacking Fire Red due to our previous hack, Septo Conquest O(keep an eye on that; something BIG is being planned), and also for the reasons outlined here:
Lance Adventures is now going to be a hack of Emerald, because it would suit the parallel system better as there's more variety.
Also, it doesn't matter whether or not he is seen in Kanto or not, as the region is new, the AMAFUSO region. This, therefore would mean that we are not limiting ourself to similar maps.
Personally, I prefer the graphics to that of Fire Red, as I think the original tilesets are easier on the eye (personal opinion).
Moreso, from our experience, I don't see how Emerald can be so unstable. We have hardly had any problems with it so far, and have actually finding it easier to hack than Fire Red (although maybe our hacking skills have improved, so yeah)
Also, in response to this:
PS: You can use clair to be a female protragonist ^^
I must stress that Clair already has a role in Lance Adventures in Parallel 3, so it wouldn't make sense for her to be the heroine as well, However, we have come up with a good idea for a female player, but all will be revealed at a later date, possibly around the time of the next beta!

Just a quick note to say that progress on this hack has been slow recently; me and Magneto20 have not met up recently, and even when we have,we have been spending a lot of time discussing and working on Septo Conquest. Keep an eye on that thread, as something really BIG is being planned, and the big day is getting ever closer...
More updates on Lance Adventures will be coming soon, I promise.
Cheers

This is great!
But will you have to play through all three parallels to see the whole story?
Yes and no.
Each parallel has it's complete story:
Parallel 1: Carl Phasno and the Showman are on a spree of carnage across the Amfuso region, so Lance must track them down.
Parallel 2: Lance goes on a quest to regain his memories and on the way meets his cousin Clair. Also fights against the Four Lords of Fire, Air, Water and Earth.
Parallel 3: Lance investigates the cause of the freak, erratic weather in the Amafuso region, and is surprised with the results!
However, all three parallels nicely link up to form the complete story arc. E.g: Something may happen in Parallel 1, but it won't be explained until Parallel 3. This is why I recommend playing the parallels in order (though this is not compulsory).
Also, as a quick note for everyone, the big news on the Septo Conquest thread will be announced tomorrow.

Hello fellow internet-goers!
We were going to only post the news on the Septo Conquest thread, but we might as well do it here as well.
Basically, we are working on a Christmas-themed mini-hack called Christmas Capers in Septo!
It's basically a short sequel and takes place one year after the events of Septo Conquest. A new area has opened up in the north-east, and the player explores it. However, his pokemon get stolen, so Lance gives him a replacement and you begin a quest to regain your pokemon.
The maps that are confirmed to be in CCiS are as follows:
- Lenna Retreat
- Mt. Cassius (inside, several areas)
- Mt. Cassius (outside, one area)
- Rikku Village
- Route 6A
- Necron City
- Harkness City
- Route 2C
- The Dictator's old lair, which is now houses three mysterious people who will be appearing in Lance Adventures...
There is a possibility of including Garnet Town, Serenity Lake and Palom Town from Lance Adventures.
Christmas Capers in Septo links Septo Conquest and Lance Adventures.

Wooo I'm reviving this thread!
Basically, me and AndyP159 have been out of the whole hacking business for a bit.
HOWEVER, if all goes as planned, we'll be making our comeback to the hacking community!
So, in short, detailed news coming soon.
UPDATE!
Hello all.
I have bad news and I have brilliant news.
The bad news: Lance Adventures is no longer being made and is now defunct. :(
The good news: Every cloud has a silver lining!
AndyP5-15 and myself are working on a new, better hack! It's called Pokemon: WARPED, a Fire Red hack, and you can find it on the Progressing Hacks section of these forums. Basically, WARPED can be seen as a sort of conversion of Lance Adventures, as we have taken many characters, themes and plot points and have re-invented them in Warped:
- Professor Pat Pending was the leading professor of Pokemon research in the Amafuso region in Lance Adventures, and in WARPED he owns a Pokemon research lab in Refia City.
- Carl Phasno and the Showman were the main antagonists in Parallel 1 of Lance Adventures, and are now minor villains in WARPED. They are both mobsters who each control different towns, and the player must defeat them to set the town free.
- The Four Lords of the Natural Elements (Earth, Air, Water and Fire) were the main antagonists in Parallel 2 of Lance Adventures, and were basically crazy people of mass destruction. They return as the main villains of WARPED, continuing to be people of mass destruction.
- Some locations may be returning...
- And many other characters, including the man himself, Lance!
Anyway, this is my last post on the Lance Adventures. Hope to see you on the Pokemon: WARPED thread!
