View Full Version : Do you hate Puzzles in Gyms?

I hate all the puzzles you have to do in every gym.
I'd rather just battle trainers and go right to the Leader instead of doing stupid obsticles.

What about you?

YES!!!! All of the early gyms (Usually the first two, minus Dewford and Eterna) don't have puzzles, therefore my favorites

I posted this after Veilstone city's gym.
I hate those little wall things.

The only puzzle gym in G1 was the psychic gym, I think... Yes, god, I hate puzzles in gyms. Takes all the fun out of fighting and beating all the trainers.

The not so invisalbe walls in one game was kinda fun

g4 takes puzzles to new extremes. I go in, do the puzzles (battle all the trainers) then go out and heal. on sunnyshores and snowpoints gyms it was annoying to have to figure it out again

Oh yeah, forgot about Koga/the poison gym. I guess that counts too.

I like the puzzles. They give the gyms more variety. The only one that actually gave me some sort of problem was Candice's gym.

I like them because most of the time they force you to battle everybody which makes you a better trainer and weaker for the Gym leader which makes it more challenging

Oh yeah, forgot about Koga/the poison gym. I guess that counts too.

You actually also forgot about Lt. Surge's annoying double-switch trickery. That one really ticked me, when I'd find it, and after doing a bit of trial and error selection, always coming up short... >_<

Blaine also had riddles, in his Gym, I believe, while Viridian City Gym had moving floor panels, much like the Celadon City Team Rocket base. Totalling 5 Gyms in Generation I with tricks/puzzles.

Personally, there are some puzzles I can handle, such as Dewford Gym's and Pastoria Gym's, but then there are those like Vermillion Gym... I really hate those... Trial and Error is annoying... ._.;;

The trouble with gym puzzles is that I would always have to do them twice. I'd get through them one time to clear out all the trainers, go back and heal at the Pokemon Center, then come back to the gym a second time, go through the puzzles again, and challenge the Gym Leader.

I would prefer to have all the trainers lined up in a cluster or in a row so that you could defeat all them first. Then the Gym puzzle would pave the path to the Leader. I like puzzles. I think they express the creativity of the game designers and are generally fun to solve. I would actually prefer that the puzzles be longer and more challenging than what they are so long as I wouldn't have to go through them twice.

I enjoy them. I mean, in Pokemon it's always BATTLE! BATTLE! BATTLE! Gym puzzles really aren't that hard, but at least they're a change of pace...

The puzzles keep the game interesting and make the gyms unique instead of just having the same lineup of trainers that often stand in front of the gym leader because that was be monotonous and take away from the challenge. I like the puzzles, but they can be annoying and unnecessary; the puzzle at Candice's gym gave me a little trouble, but for the most part, the puzzles aren't that bad. They may be tedious and based completely on chance, as in Lt. Surge's gym, but other puzzles like the ones in Fantina's and Koga's gym were nice diversions from the battling.

I don't mind doing them because most of them are simple, but it's just when I'm in a gym i want to fight not do puzzels so....

I personally prefer the puzzles. They aren't too hard and they make the gyms much funner. I think it would be better if the puzzles where actually longer.

i lol at Fantina's puzzles.

"What's 18-6?"

Always picked the wrong door so I could get the exp, so in a way being stupid was actually being smart.

Some of the puzzles are okay but the one in the Sunnyshore Gym is very difficult I think, I spent the best part of 2 hours battling the trainers and working the puzzle out.

I liked the puzzles, as everyone says because it's a change of pace. My favorite one of all time was Pryce's sliding floor (Candice's was a bit challenging..).

I prefer the gyms with Puzzles to the ones without. anyone can battle, but the puzzles add some logic into the games, they actually make you think.
oh, t3hjolteon: there was one gym where all the trainers were all in one place... to an extent. i dont remember his name, it was the gym leader before Jasmine in the G/S/C games, i think...
either way, i do prefer a challenge in getting to the gym leader than walking right up to him. the only one that gave me a little trouble was Candices gym.

Lt. Surge's was really crap honestly. I am pretty sure those switches are purely random, no challenge in that, just luck.

As for the rest, I think they're actually a good twist to the trainer-battle experience, even though I like battling too.

WHA?! I love them! I wish there were more puzzles throughout the game! I wouldn't be so hardpressed to say something like "Yeah I just wanna fight the damn trainers and leader and get out of there" if the battles weren't so freakin easy. The puzzles are harder than the actual battles. They actually make you think, rather than just hitting the same button on the same move over and over and OHKO-ing pretty much every opponent.

I Like those puzzles because they exercise the mind and yes I do agree that they do get annoying.

Sometimes you can do them without fighting people.

I like some of the puzzles, like Koga's or Blaine's. Those weren't so hard. But I hate the luck ones like Sabrina's or Lt. Surge's that are completely random- I have terrible luck with those. >.<

Speaking of Puzzles.
I also hated Silph Co. for that matter?

The only ones that really got me were Lt. Surge in RBY, Sabrina (until I got pissed off and looked up a map online), and the 8th gym in RSE, that took me forever. I had to copy the thing down on a piece of graph paper, and then with a pencil I drew the path until I finally got it.

But I don't hate them, I like having some sort of puzzle in the gyms. They r makez me feelz smartz.

the bitter end.

Depends on my mood, and the difficulty of the puzzle.

The only puzzle i didn't like was the Lt. Surge one, all the others i sometimmes go through for fun.
Mainly sinnoh and Hoenn, them two took gyms to new lengths.

id say yes and no, the only real one that PISSED ME OFF! was the lt surge one in pokemon rby, where you hit one switch and had to pick the other one out of like twenty other garbage cans, and if you picked wrong it reset and the first switch moved to another can! BAH!

Speaking of Puzzles.

oh god, silph co. , agreed.:\

The only good puzzle was the shell moving puzzle in Captain Crunch's gym from the 9th game, Pokemon: Oak Chronicles.

Remember having to flip all those cards over just so you could fight his lv 89 Weepinbell and lose miserably?

Fun fun times, man I havent played that game in years. *grabs old Megadrive*

He's satirizing the fact that HE thinks Pokemon has gone on too long. I'd say warn him/ban him but his posts are freakin hilarious.

BTW never had a problem with Lt. Surge's gym either...guess I was lucky?

They're fine. People who want to do the puzzles can do them, and many who can't can just check a walkthrough. Still, I like them because they kind of take your mind off the battling a little, which can be refreshing.

Some say that the gym puzzles are fun, but to be honest with everyone of you, I hate them. It is so annoying to have to solve them and then when you leave to go heal or something you have to do the puzzles all over again. The ones like Rustborough and Eterna gyms I like 'cause you don't have to solve a puzzle to get to the gym leader.

Wow if you guys honestly think they're too challenging that's kinda pathetic. Also, @CaspianSun54, I've never once had to leave a gym to heal. I guess I'm just that good or something, or maybe I actually know how to utilize items.

I agree with the first part of your post, but maybe CaspianS54 would just rather save the items for when he actually needs them (like when there aren't any centers to heal at nearby).

Um, in Diamond and Pearl after a certain point, I have never once dipped under 100,000 pokedollars or whatever. They give you so much money you can just buy 100 hyper potions and it'll last from the time you get them till long after you beat the game.

Not really, only the ones where I have to move things around like in Volkner's. The ice gyms were my favorite.

Oh god, did anyone hate the first gyms in all four regions? Those puzzles were a pain.
