Basically this is your Drow for dummies....thread.....instead of book...XD

Anyway as soon as my accomplice gets here we will take you through the fascinating and awesome world of Drow. Believe me, this is going to be cool! :D

The best place to start to learn about the drow in they're ways is to read "Homeland" by R. A. Salvatore, this will give you everything you need to know about drow. But I'm here to wrap it all up in a nut shell....which hopefully won't take 327 pages...like the book itself.

So as soon as The Adamant Dodger gets on here, him and I will take you through the dangerous world of the Drow elves.

But first to explain what drow are. Drow are dark elves, that live in a place known as the Underdark. As you could probably guess, the underdark...is well....dark. Drow have infored vision to help them sense their way around the darken caves and tunnels that link the cities together. They are also masters of weapons of all sorts and sizes. And they also have a wide understanding of magic, and magical items. They're eyes are very sensitive to light and they light their cities with very dimmed lights, not enough to blind them, yet not enough that the need to use infored vision.

That's all I can think of to explain what a drow is, you'll have to wait and see if TAD (The Adamant Dodger) can add anything else to what I said.

And if I have this in the wrong section, I'm sorry I wasn't really sure were a topic like this belonged, so if it doesn't belong here, than please move it.

Well, to continue on what RM said, Drow live in the Underdark, although not by choice. Their cousins, the surface elves forced them below. Obviously, they're kind've pissed about this. Occasionally, they'll conduct raids to the surface, etc. etc. for a bit of revenge. Revenge is an art to the Drow, they live to see it completed and perfected.

As you might have guessed, Drow aren't one of the kindly races. Thay're vicious, vindictive, arrogant, cruel, chaotic, decietful, traitorous(sp) and in general not nice to be around. The follow the Godess of Chaos, Lloth the Spider Queen, an entity if anything, more vile than themselves. Menzoberranzan, the best known of the Drow cities scattered throughout the Underdark has gone so far as to let spiders run rampant throughout the streets.

Drow society is strictly matriarchial. Males are considered little more than breeding stock and cannon fodder. A female can kill a male "just because she felt like it" without punishment, but the reverse is far from true. The male would probably be delivered into the oh-so-kindly care of Matron Malice Banrae, the highest ranking Matron in the city. There are no priests of Lloth, just priestesses who are among the nastiest in Drow culture.

Perhaps it's the environment of the Underdark that causes the Drow to have developed into what they are. First, they must deal with the Illithids, the mind-flayers. These tentacled creatures are masters of psionic energy and can make any creature their ***** (excuse my language) by looking at them. The illithids, though, are not all. Many other creatures roam the cave network that forms the Drow home, creature that make an Orc, Troll, and Frost Giant look like a trio of cuddly kittens. So out of necessity, the Drow are raised in martial arts. The most sucessful among them go to the Academy for a regimen even more brutal then what they recieved at home. Their last year of ten at the Academy is spent learning magical arts from some of the more accomplished Drow mages. I contrast, creatures of the surface take up similar arts, not of necessity, but more of intrest, or perhaps even novelty. All in all, the Drow have more than enough reason in technical ability for their arrogance.

Here, I suppose is where the RP aspect comes in. After all, the best way to learn is by doing, no? You lot are a batch of new students at the Academy, ready to recieve the kind instruction of you masters (RM and myself).

Yes so in order to learn first hand, what Drows are like, we will teach you...this should be fun!

That's all we need and then we can begin your instruction in the way of the drow.

To add on to what TAD said:

Drow society is ranked by houses, which is who each drow belong to. Heritage is a very important part of Drow life. And each house will wage wars on each other to gain ranks, the higher a houses rank (Highest rank is 1) the more in favor it is with the spider queen (Usually). Now there is no crime for killing another drow...unless you are caught. Being caught to drows' is killing a drow in the sight of the higher ranking drow in the drows' house that you are tempting to kill. Other houses that are directly involved with the conflict are bystanders and can't seek justice. So the altimate rule in drow society is "Don't get Caught".

Andrith waited silently in one of Melee-Magthere's many hallways, waiting (although not eagerly) the arrival of this year's batch of snots. He had his favorite Swallow tucked in his right hand and one hand crossbow at his hip. Scal-mail covered every inck of his torso and arms, extending a bit down his powerfully built legs even. Black gloves covered the hands that en Elvish mage had burned so horribly on a raid to the surface years before. He tossed his long whit hair behind his head and quickly tied it back as the nearby door creaked open.

Andre, his black robes and merciless grin, waited for new students to torture into the mindless fighters they were soon about to become. With wand in hand, he waited outside to greet the neew students. Unlike the other teachers, he was eager, eager for more victims. He hadn't taught anybody, this was his first year, so he was ready to punish misbehavors as cruely as possible. He licked his lips as the group neared the academy.

Anais sauntered into the school building, her curved figure swaying graciously. Her slim figure was accented by a plain, white dress, extending to her feet. She blinked her green eyes as she gripped her wand. Her dark, black hair was tossed over her shoulder as she fought to remain calm looking.

She looked around for any signs of life.

Valdios walked causually into the school. he wore nothing but black. he had black jeans, t shirt, and even black fingerless gloves (That's going to be my trade mark from now on. :D) they contrasted with his pale skin and white hair. his eyes were so green you'd swear they weren't real. He didn't beleive he had to go here, he heard it was a nightmare. But still, if it made him a good fighter, he didn't really care.

"This should be interesting." he muttered as he walked down the echoing hallway.

Anais heard someone behind her and spun around, her long black hair streaming around her. She spotted someone who seemed to be a student. She walked over to him, her green eyes looking him over.

"Hello," she said quietly. "You a student here too?"

"I guess so." I said as I looked around the empty hallways. " Not much of a school, though."

[Mew13]

"Tell me about it, seems more like a prison," she stated, a rare smile playing on her lips.

Anais extended a delicate hand. "I'm Anais, by the way. Anais Matthews."

[Pogiforce-14]

"I'm Valdios." I said, he said, taking her hand. "Valdios Blaster. This school seems more like a ghost town than a prison. I don't see any teachers or students. It would be rather rediculous if we're the only students in teh whole building. I don't know what it is with the Drow Overseersbuilding big." I muttered.

ooc: just thought I'd let you know, his name is a parody of the Duel Masters card, Armored Blaster Valdios. :D

IC: Anais shrugged. "We very well could be, considering I haven't seen anyone..."

"Great." I grumbled, leaning against the wall. " And I suppose there are only one or two teachers in this place too. I guess lesson number one is finding the teachers." I said sarcastically.

Anais laughed her tinkling laugh. "Well, at least no one's trying to kill us yet," she said, rather darkly.

"That's probably in teh next lesson.' i said just as darkly.

It'd been just an attendant, but he had brought some delicious news. The next batch of victims had arrived. while the two had conversed, Andrith had crept around their back and up the wall and had the small, diminuitive even, crossbow in his hands. Now, he was all but above Validos's head as he poked the loaded weapon into the back of his neck, saying "Not quite" Drow sleeping poison crept from the quarrel into the small puncture wound it had made.

A blacked cloaked figure stepped into the hall. With a small laugh of amusement, he looked apon the next drow warriors.

Without warning there had been a crack of a whip. Andre came around to face it and listened to what the female was yelling and who she was yelling at.

It had been two young drows that she had whipped (Mew13, Pogiforce-14 it's your characters) "You talk when you are to talk! And only when you have promission to talk! Do you hear me!?" The female snapped darkly.

Andre strod over to her and ask, "Do we have a problem with these students?"

"Yes, they were speaking, when they weren't aloud." She said solemnly.

"Yes, very bad role to be breaking." He said turning to the defiant youths. His eyes narrowed and his nose crinkled as he said darkly, "I see your family hasn't taught you the proper respect. You must be the disgrace of your families. That'll change." Andre then turned to address the students, but waited for his colleges to speak first.

"I doubt this one'll be talking for a bit" I said, dropping to the floor and gesturing toward the young male with my crossbow and grinning devilishly. To my very great displeasure, Andris, my older sister, put the butt of her snake-headed whip up under my chin and said "Did I give you permission to be harming our students" I shook my head as best I could as she added a rather belated "yet."

[Raichu Master]

"Knock it off, you two." I snapped at the two from behind my shoulder. "Now students, you have been accepted into this fine academy, to become drow warriors. As must all drows. Why? Because it is the way of our lives. Now as we call you're name please enter that room." He said pausing to point a slender finger to a door on his right. "And take a seat in that room, and wait for instruction. If we catch any of you talking, you know the consequences, as I'm sure your families taught you. You shall be whipped mercilessly, if you don't know that already." He continued looking darkly to the two students who had been whipped.

And one by one a female in the corner started calling off name's of drow, and one by one they filed into the room.

Andris had ordered me to drag a couple of the otheer students I'd put down into the central hall to my great displeasure. Once I was finished, I joined Andre at the front of the room where I slouched again against the wall, waiting for the roll call to be finished.

"I take back what I said." I whispered to Aria. "This place is a prison." I glared at teh teachers angirly. Frankly I didn't care if they wipped me or not, No supposed authority figure would run me. I control myself.

The female had finished the roll call (at last!) and now it was time to make my favorite announcement of them all. "Students." I said, making my voice as unexcited as possible. "We have a yearly tradition at the Academy, to help get you to know each other. Follow me" I finished, spinning on my heel and once my back was turned to them, licking my lips in anticipation as I strode out of the central hall and toward the arena of Melee-Magthere.

[Raichu Master]

Andre followed Andrith and whispered, "These students remind me of Drizzt. We must keep them from getting like him."

OOC: TAD I think we should have explained what a drow's childhood was like....

I was liking this school less and less. I was beginning to wonder if my parents had sent me here jsut to torture me. I grimaced and would ahve liked to do anything but, but I ended up following the teacher down the hall, knowing whatever he had planned would be just as bad as everything else.

Childhood for the Drow is almost as awful as their adult life. At the age of three, the males are reduced to a role little better than that of a slave. For 10 years they stay in that role, cleaning, being beaten and generally having a miserable time of it. At 16 (Correct me if I'm wrong, RM) they're put into the training of the house weapons master, the most skilled fighter in the house. If they prove proficient enough in that area, they go on to the Academy either at Melee-Magthere or Sorcere for a training worse still. After that, they're typically assigned to a patrol to go and capture food resources, conduct raids, or find and eliminate threats to their home city. Not as much is known about the upbringing of female Drow, but most seem to be spoiled rotten as children, then go on to Arach-Tinilth to be trained as priestesses of Lloth.<OOC>

"Indeed they do. Should we isolate them after the Melee" I whispered back to Andre. "You'd know the best of us whaat caused him to be what he was." House Do'Urden's disgrace was a wound on all Drow in Menzoberranzan, but more so to the few survivors of the ruins of one of the few houses that had managed to destroyed itself.

Most people on all of my other forums (which are NOT, by the way, devoted to board RP's) know about both of them. Anyway, it does seem that many people on here have no clue about the Drow lifestyle, which is why this was started: To educat people in the life, culture, and society of the Drow. ooc:NOt so many people are that educated as you may think. Like I said, most people don't know, because frnakly, most people don't play D&D. I for one have, but have never come across a drow during D&D and therefore had no reason to know about them. if the whole point fo this rp was to educate, then it was probably best to let us know what sort of restraints to character personality and appearances were BEFORE we made those mistakes. Just a suggestion. :\ At any rate, my character is just following yours, so I have no reason right now to put in any content.

I watched Andre slip off into the shadows, wondering for a brief instant if the chaos his family member had caused was coincidental or Lloth-wraught.

No matter I concluded as we reached the doors of my arena. Tossing them open, I said in an unnaturally pleasent voice "Students, welcome to Melee-Magthere, the fighter's school at the Academy. I'm the headmaster here and I'll be presiding over your education in Drow martial arts." Th arena itself was not used in the traditional sense, it was a massive room with varied terrain, even a small, swift-running stream heading down the large "mountain" in the center. Tunnels ran throughout it, some leading up to several balconies on the upper level. "Students" I said again (still in the same pleasent voice), clapping my hands and smiling. "It's time for your initiation at the Academy. You're going to be put into a test of combat against each other. This test determines your order of rank in the entire first year at the Academy, so DO try hard?" I gestured to a rack of wooden weapons along the far wall and said "You have five minutes to pick a weapon and a hiding spot before the test will begin. The five minutes starts...NOW!!!"

<OOC>You two are part of a full class, so every now and then would you mind if I jumped in as a classmate to keep things interesting?<OOC>

I saw a wooden staff that piqued my interst, so I quickly chose that weapon. as I ran about the room, I noticed a small cavern in th rock wall near the waterfall. it seemed like an ideal palce to hide so i jumped inside.

ooc; Wonder what's keeping mew13. :\ She and I are raelly the only 'students' here.

For myself, I walked off to a private observation deck up on the third floor. Hopefully Andre would join me there to decide on just what...training methods...we'd apply to this lot.

OOC: I'm back!!

BIC: Anais paused to choose her weapon. She saw a wooden staff (Not to copy Pogi, but I myself am not comfortable using any bladed weapon.... religous and values stuff....) and quickly picked it up, heading into the mazes of the "mountain".

[Pogiforce-14]

ooc: I jsut choose the staff because it happens to be my fovirte weeapon. :D The sword is honestly my next favorite weapon, but only for duels and fencing, not for that bloody hack and slash stuff you see in old midevil wars.

ic: I was growing impatient. I ahd no way of telling if the prep period of five minutes was over or not. I began bouncing my right leg on the ball of my foot in impatience.

<OOC>Jumping in real quick as a student named...Tarathiel, male.<OOC>

I ran over to the weapons rack that my teacher had mentioned, hefting two wooden daggers, my favored weapon. I charged staraight up the massive rock, rolling as swiftly as I could into one of the tunnels. If my suspicions were right, the layout would include a shaft downwards, perfect for an ambush.

[Mew13]

Anais began moving swiftly and silently through the maze of tunnels, hearing awekward footspets shuffling somewhere to her left. She came upon a female Drow, obviously not a fighter.

Anais squared off silently and smacked the girl hard across the back, causeing her to crumple in a heap. She'd come to in a few minutes, but for now, Anais had to continue.

Andrith-The sounds were magically amplified on this balcony and I smiled as the first of what it seemed would be many sickening cracks reached me. I smiled at the sound. The Melee had begun in earnest

Tarathiel-I had indeed found a shaft, almost falling into it . Instead, I'd extended myself halfway down it, holding my arms and legs out to the sides. Blinking, I switched to my infravision (innate to all Drow, so feel free), hoping it'd help in spotting targets I could drop upon.

[Mew13]

Using her infravision, Anais saw a pair of legs dangling around a corner. She smiled evilly and swung her bo staff hard at the offending legs.

Tarathiel-It was sheer luck that saved me at that point. Before I even heard the whistle of the staff, I'd pulled mylegs bag to try and conceal myself. I let my arms off the wall at that point, deliberately falling onto the hard rock below and concealing my daggers, scuttling bck and putting on a fearful expression as I said (or begged, perhaps) "Please don't hurt me, I'll help you, I will. I'll take second."

[Mew13]

Anais naturally become suspicious. "Ha, like I believe that lie for two seconds!" she retorted, stabbing at the boy's chest with her staff, then swinging it dangerously close to his head.

[Pogiforce-14]

i looked around the cave, trying to occupy myself until something happens. I then noticed a small crawl space in the ck of the cave jsut big enough for me to get into. Wonderin where it went, I got on my hands and knees and began crawling deeper into the mountain.

[~Ozy~]

Turning vicious, I knocked the strike at my head off-course, jumping up and into a semblance of a fighting stance. I started taunting my opponent, whoever it was, saying "You're right, I would've stabbed you in the back. I would've enjoyed it too, you know."

[Mew13]

Anais smiled at her opponent, almost sweetly. "Well then, let's begin then!" she said quietly, as not to alert others thier whereabouts.

She swung the staff at her opponent's legs, then took another stab at his chest.

[~Ozy~]

I jumped over theattepted sweep and danced back from the stab, flipping one of my daggers into a backhand grip and jumping back into the fray, hoping to get to a point where the staff wouldn't be as much of a problem.

[Pogiforce-14]

I finally found the end of the tunel. I was on a slope on another side of the mountain. two other Drow where fighting nearby, but as far a I was concerned I didn't need tojump in. The goal was not just to stay on top, but to avoid getting caught if possible. I ducked down behind a boulder and readied my staff in the case that I might have to jump in.

[Mew13]

OOC: Fray? Like, the entire class is fighting? Right then...

BIC: Anais followed her opponent, ready to teach him a lesson for messing with her.

She dodged and weaved, still accuratly swinging the staff at the insolent boy. How dare he even think of stabbing her in the back? She took another stab, realizing her staff had a slight point to the end.

Tarathiel too, realized this as the staff nicked his left shoulder. He ignored the pain as best he could and took his oppurtunity while his opponent was still overextended from the thrust. He spun in to the left, flipping the backhand dagger back to a forehand grip and coming in with a rapid series of stabbing attacks, weaving between Anais's torso, throat, and head.

This fight was going all in one direction. I was tempted to help, but I had to remembr to keep hidden.

ooc: Sory, mew 13, but I have to keep to a drow personality. :\

[Mew13]

Anais cringed as the blade met her head. She was slashed above the eyebrow, but she quickly tucked and rolled under the Drow's legs. She then took a swing at his back, the same manuever she used to dispose of the female Drow.

A quick somersault to the side negated most of the damage, but as I returned to my feet my back stung and I was wobbling a bit. Whoever I was facing was good. Muttering to myself I finished the though "But not good enough." I levitated <OOC>Another ability, again, feel free.<OOC> up into the shaft I'd jumped down from, taking off sprinting towards the outside of the rock when I was up.

Anais brought a hand to her head, deciding not to follow. She cursed under her breath and wiped blood from her face.

She then noticed someone else was in the area.

"Who's there?" she whispered dangerously, her grip on the staff tightening. "Show yourself!"

Instead of standing I ducekd down lower, hoping she'd think it was jsut her imagination and keep moving on. i was doin't my best to stay hidden.

Anais still felt as though she was being watched, and chose to ignore it, for now.

She raced back the way she came, quickly disposing of three more students. She didn't pause to find out if they were male or female, it seemingly didn't matter.

Her staff swung silently to the forth, the same girl she had knocked down earlier. Anais smiled to herself, now in search of the boy who had slashed her head. He would pay....

Andrith-I'd heard sounds of a fight but it seemed to be inconclusive. Pity, that, things were developing too slowly. Only five of 42 students down.

Tarathiel-After breaking out of the tunner, I swung up into a little crag, figuring it safer to recover and wait for any more potential targets befor progressing.

OOC: Yeah! Praise!

BIC: Anais whirled around, finding a tunnel where a large group had settled. She swung the staff left and right, stabbing and jabbing here and there. It was oddly satisfying to hear them groan or squeak as she brought them down.

Anais: 11 she thought to herself and continued her search for the boy.

I decided to crawl back thorugh the tunnel backto my cave. When I got there, I found another student in my cave. He hadn't noticed me, so I bopepd him upside teh head with my staff, knocking him unconcious. I grabbed hi body and tossed it in teh river outside. I didn't care that teh waterfall was just a few feet away. I had to protect my hiding spot,and I couldn't affor ot have him wake up right there. It would compromise my position.

Anais still couldn't find the boy, and was taking her frustrations out on all those around her. She was now up to 13 kids down herself, and still raging.

I decided it wasn't safe to stay in the cave. If one of them found it, chances are more would too. In fact, as soon as I left the cave several more, about 7 or so, jumped out of bushes to try to ambush me. I quickly spun my staff like an expert, smacking all of them in the head and knocking all of them out. Several landed in the river, falling down the waterfall to join the first. I began walking along the rivers edge, cautious of any other people that may come by.

It was hard on my body to sit there motionless for so long. My thighs were burning, my ankles stiff and I was beginning to wonder if it was all worth it. It proved to be so when another student, my fourth so far walked under me. I dropped onto his shoulders, my daggers making quick work of the kill on his skull. After kicking the body away as to not arouse suspicion, I climbed back to my perch and began waiting once again.

Anais's infravision noted someone on a perch. She smiled to herself, and took off through a tunnel leading up at a sharp direction.

She exited and wove her way around, finding she was now directly above the Drow. Now that she was close enough, she recognized him as the one who had slashed her. She stabbed the staff's pointed end down.

Again, it was luck that saved me. The staff skipped off a a bit of the crag and missed my head by a half-inch. I jumped off to the side, near to where I'd put the bodies, barely managing to keep my footing on the rocky, uneven ground in the area.

Anais jumped down from her own perch, nimbly keeping her footing on the rough terrain. Just like Home she thought to herself.

"I'll teach you for messing with me," she hissed dangerously. "No one picks a fight with Anais Matthews and lives to tell the tale."

With that, her staff began stabbing. Weaving around the boy. Two to his left side, tow to his right, one to the chest, one tword his legs, and a final blow tword his head.

I blocked or dodged all of the attacks, looking as if I was stumbling backwards. Finally I thought, this time almost tripping in earnest. I dropped a globe of darkness, unable to be penetrated by either infravision or normal <OOC>Second to last ability.<OOC> over Anais. Immediately following that, I picked up the almost concious body of my first victim, a rather frail male and threw it straight into the globe.

I was hiding up on a craig near teh top. Aobut ten sutednts where fighting just below me on a ledge precariously close to a long, long, drop. Of course, I wasn't about to let any one of them get the credit. I timed my aim and jumped down, kicking the one closest to me. This caused a chain reation, sending all of the students plummeting off the cliff. If any of them lived through it, the pain from having hundreds of broken bones would probably drive them mad. I grinned at the thought before continuing down teh path, trying to find more victims to increase my score. (My new total score: 18)

ooc: You siad this was a lre class, so it seems to me there should be 100 students. Just so that it would be easier keeping track of the score. And we should probably ahve soem unknown student getting poitns too, because it just seems to rigged if we're the only three people scoring anything.

Anais stabbed the being, realizing it wasn't her target. She levatated over the darkness that had clouded both her visions, looking for the boy.

She stabbed blindly, sensing someone in the darkness. She heard muffled footsteps, realizing the person was above her.

SHe leapt upwards, seeing it was the boy she had met in the hallways, before getting whipped. She felt a twinge of guilt, but attacked anyways, stabbing at his chest with the blunt end of the staff.

I saw the staff coming and quickly twhirled mine, knocking the attack off target. tkaing the advantage of her being wiped open, I then swung my staff around in an attempt to try to knock her off her feet.

ooc:just a message to everyone else. I'll be in Chicago starting Monday until next weekend and won't be able to get up here during that time. For that reason, I've left Mew13 in control of my characters. Continue on, and I'll et back up here as soon as possible.

Anais merely leapt over the stick, using her own momentum to rebound off the wall and land nimbly on her feet. She now realized she was behind her opponent.

"Sorry," she murmered, and swung the staff at his exposed back, using the same attack that felled her 1st victim and caused her rival to retreat.

I dropped down onto my stomach with a frontal fall (a karate technique I actualy learned) To avoid the attack. When I found that my legs had gone between hers, I used my arms to jump back up, trying to hook her with my feet to trip her up. I then spun around with my staff and did a series of spins to force her back.

For my part, I hid and watched the fight, figuring that whoever came out on top would be worn out enough to be an easy victim.

Anais stumbled a bit, and realized she was being forced back. She threw her staff out, stopping his advance.

She then gave a swinging kick twords his head while stabbing at his chest again. She wasn't about to lose.

OOC: Sorry for the double post, and the fact that this post has no IC in it... but I was thinking that since Pogi's gone for the week, maybe we could call this a tie between the three remaining charas... like maybe the time limit came about. THat way, this whole thing will remain fair to him.

Andrith-Looking at the entire Melee was becoming quite boring, particularly since Andre seemed to have his nose in some dusty spellbook again. Furthermore, with only four fatalities the whole thing seemed even more dull. Raising my hand I called "Enough. I've ranked your abilities well enough now. The Melee is pointless. Your first-year rankings will be determined by the number of 'kills' First is Validos, followed closely by Anais, then Tarathiel. The preformances of the rest of you were most dissapointing and you hold no rank whatsoever." Narbondel, the massive heat-clock at the center of the city was nearing total darkness, signifying midnight. I finished as I levitated down to the first level "I'll lead you to your dormatories now. Lessons begin tomorrow."

Anais grimaced, desperatly wishing she had managed to finish the two boys off. THat would have put her at the top of her class. She was now a mere second. Her eyes blazed with determination to become the best.

Validos smiled at being named first in the class. He looked around, grinning. He then followed the instucter to his dorm.

The dorms as we called them were spartan structures, carved out of solid granite. Boys were housed in one room, girls on the other. The Academy Headmistress insisted it be so, not wanting her precious females befouled. I briefly explained the schedule of tomorrow's events, saying "Tomorrow males will be escorted to Sorcere, females to Arach-Tinilth. Tat'll comprise half of your day. When you return here, exhausted, my work begins. Get it?" I asked, and without waiting for an answer, said 'Good. And don't get caught out of bed," adding a slight emphasis on the caught.

Anais smiled, knowing it would be easy enough for her to sneak around without getting caught.

She looked at her instructer, deciding against it for tonight. Best not to press her luck. She headed into the room indicated as the girls' dorm, half wishing they'd been allowed a coed dormitory.

Validos merely walked into the room that had been assigned. He wasn't about to try to sneak about tonight. He'd made a decent impression and wasn't about to ruin it.

Tarathiel-I retired to the hard stone bed I'd been assigned, thinking on our teacher's last words. It made sense, above all the petty rules of the Drow (which he'd heard were stirctly enforced on the surface), don't kill, don't betray your family, all ther rest, there was one overriding law. Don't get caught. He figured he'd wait maybe an hour or two and press his luck.

Andrith-I returned to my own well-appointed quarters soon afterwards, wondering how many would try tonight. Those who did...Well, Andre had rigged detection dweomers throughout the entire complex of the Academy, reaching out into Tier Breche proper. We'd know and we'd catch them. Andris would make examples of the lot.

Anais crawled onto the stone bed that had been assigned to her. She cursed under her breath, tossing and turning, trying to get to sleep on the unaccustomed bed.

She probably would have managed to fall asleep if the girl in the bed next to hers hadn't been snoring like a bullfrog...

She turned again, wondering if anyone would try to sneak into the girls' dorm on the first night.

Tarathiel-I rolled out of the bed silently, landing in a crouch. Moving stealthily toward the door, I slowly stood up. No doubt there were numerous spells about, but hopefully I could avoid them. My goal for tonight was just a scouting mission, nothing major.

Anais sat up in the bed, still not able to sleep. She pulled out a leather bound book, using her infravision to read in the dark.

After reading a few of her past entries, the Drow wrote a new one, talking about her 1st day at school. It was an uneventful entry, and she wondered if she should press her luck after all...

The moment I stepped out of the room that housed us 21 males, I knew I'd tripped up. A flash of both light and heat ran along the wall, headed up through the pyramidial structure that housed Melee-Magthere, up towards the master's chamber. I froze against the wall, hoping I'd be overlooked. After a few minutes, though, I thought the danger past and took a few tentative steps forward and almost instantly found my throat touching the small, four-pronged quarrel used in Drow hand-crossbows. All I heard before the potent sleeping poison took effect was "You were warned."

Anais saw the bright flashes from the crack under the girls' dorm's door. She grinned to herself, hoping whoever it was had been caught and punished severly.

Andrith-I dragged the impudent boy, third in the class back to my own rooms and tossed him in the closet. Walking over to the small mirror over my writing table, I tapped it thrice and waited for Andris to appear in it. Finally, she did, looking irritable to boot. Pushing away my fear at her expression, I said "We've got one. The training chambers, tomorrow morning?" The wicked smile she put on as she nodded did little to reassure me that I wouldn't be getting a whipping tomorrow as well.

<OOC>Alright, we finished up the Grand Melee. Pogi-14's character took first, Mew13 second, and the student I'm controlling, third. Now, they're all in bed with strict orders to stay there. My student got caught and is due for a whipping tomorrow morning. As for the classes, the males get you in the morning, me in the afternoon. Since we're both controlling Andris, we'll also be teaching the females in the morning classes. Then they come back to me for afternoon "classes."

OOC: Ok gotcha! This should be fun! i'm going have fun teaching them the true meaning of being a Drow! MWAHAHAHA!

But...are we going to skip the ceremony when they pass!? Cause it's kind of...um...suggestive...
IC: The next morning I awaited the students. It was going to be great fun teaching them how low they really are.

The next morning, when Narbondel was 3/5ths of the way to it's peak <OOC>About 6:00 AM.<OOC> I roused the students. Tarathiel was already in the arena, guarded by Andris. They were all gathered outside of the dormitory at that point, bleary-eyed and groggy. Clapping twice, I said in a falsely happy voice "Come now, my sweetlings. We don't want to see such tired little faes around here." I turned and marched off towards the arena, ready to make the first example of their number.

Anais watched with wide eyes. She was fully awake, showing no signs of the fact she had slept very little last night.

Validos watched as well, though his eyes were half closed. He was still quite tired.

OOC: Yeah cause it was kind of sickening to me...it was just the morals of what was conducted there that made me queezy. And then when he found Veina in a room...shall we say...um...not quite dressed...I don't think we want to go through that...here...or anywhere.

I turned on my heel, trusting that they would follow. After the display, they would understand the price of disobediance. The arena was on the second floor, all basic training in my school was conducted here. Today, though, we had the boy from last night standing alone on the center of the mat, his torso bared. My sister stepped up behind him, snake-headed whip writhing in anticipation. I couldn't begin to conceal the grin on my face from anticipation of what was to come.

Anais watched slightly fearfully at the grins on the adult's faces. She could see what was coming, and outwardly hardenend her expression.

Andris-I stepped into the arena with a joyful sort of anticipation. This would be the first male who had crossed me far enough to get a whipping. Mentally, at least, I thanked my younger brother for giving this one to me. I walked up to the child silently, not letting him know when the first strike would come. Raising my whip, my eyes began glowing fiercely. I brought the whip down, watching as if in slow motion the fangs biting into his soft back. The poison in the fangs, the most potent known to any sentient race began taking effect almost immediately as the boy went into convulsions. I struck again, and again, until the child was on the ground, writhing in pain and bleeding profusely. Replacing the whip on my belt, I began talking in the Drow hand code, motioning for all female students to follow me.

Anais gulped unnoticably, watching the boy she had fought writhe in pain on the ground.

She saw the woman with the whip motion for her to follow. She obeyed, showing no hesitation though she felt it.

When my new acolytes were gathered int the central worship chamber of Arach-Tinilth, I seated myself in the belly of the massive spider "throne" given to the hadmistress. I began "You are all here to learn the ways of our dak queen, Lloth. It's entirely likely" I smiled evilly at this point. "That some of you will die. But the best will become priestessess of the Spider Queen. If you wish to continue, that road leads to the world of a high priestess, maybe even this chair." I pased, letting the prospect excite those who had the will for my world, then continued "If you can drag me off of it."

Anais smiled, slightly evilly. Her eyes glinted with the dertermined fire that seemingly consumed her.

She awaited the Headmistress's first instructions, ready to prove her worth.

"You won't be doing any actual spellcasting until your second year" I informed my students. "Your first is devoted to learning the precepts of Lady Lloth. You!" I snapped my finger toward one of the students (Anais). "What is the most important precept of Drow life?"

OOC: Ug, why me?

BIC: Anais shifted nervously. She had some idea, but wasn't sure if she was correct. She didn't want to think of what the punishment would be for being wrong.

She swallowed all her doubts and replied, "Never get caught," with as much confidence as she could muster while staring into the Headmistress's eyes.

"Rules," I began, tapping my fingers on the "arm" of the throne, one of the spider's legs. "Are far different from our precepts" was how I finished, continuing with "Station is the most important thing to our kind, superior to any other race. Station is what guide us, what makes our world turn. There used to be hundereds of houses in Menzoberranzan, now it's been whittled down to the best 62."

Anais gulped agian, greatful that she had not been punished for a wrong answer. The correct one was painstakingly clear, and she wished she could have cleared her head enough to answer it right.

A small snicker or two rose in the group of females. Anais's cheeks burned as she realized they were laughing at her stupidity.

I stared pointedly at the girl, grinding in that she'd answered wrong. The few who'd started laughing were quickly silenced when I encompassesd the whole room in a glare.

Anais cowered slightly under the gaze, glad that it soon encompassed the enitre room. She waited silently for further instructions.

"Today we'll be starting your studies on divining" I said, my voice in a soft, kind tone. I added nastily "A useful skill to have when determining Lloth's will." I stood up and said "Follow me to the chapel."

Anais followed quietly, the class hurrying to keep up with the teacher's strides.

Upon reaching the chapel, the enitire class fell silent. The hush was seemingly contagious.

I slowly opened the massive doors, elaborately engraved with spider figures. Only the doors of House Baenrae were more comlex, more astounding.

The chapel itself was perhaps the most elaborate in the city. A massive brazier, for the purposes of summoning creatures of the lower planes was here, always blazing in the center of the circle of runes tht kep hostile ones contained. On the far wall and in the dead center was an enchanted statue, permanently shifting between a massive spider and an astoundingly beautiful Drow female. I walked in, carefully keeping myself out of the circle and took the position of honor closest to the stature as I sat slowly, spreading my robes out around me.

ooc: Hey peeps, I'm back! :D so what can my character do? I mean, being it seems to be all about the girls classes (I actualy read all that I missed) I'm kinda left in the dark. :\

BIC: Anais looked around in awe. THe chapel was amazing. The statue in it's center was quite unique. The spider, then the femal drow. For some reason, the drow seemed familiar...

Anais pushed these questions aside as she watched the instructer sit. She shifted uneasilly, awaiting some instrucion as of what to do.

I motioned for the students to sit down with an impatient wave of my hand. The good mood of this morning was rapidly dissapating and I wanted to see some blood. 'Children" I began with a sneer. "Today you begin your education. Today you'll be learning from one of Lloth's handmaidens, a yochol." The summoning was a simple one but the creature itself a different matter entirely. Certain yochol might well slaughter the entire class.

Anais watched nervously as the creature was summoned...

Finally, the handmaiden sprang into being, looking like a multi-tentacled candle half-melted. The creature boomed telepathically <WHO DARES SUMMON ME!> I stuggled to keep my focus on the runes keeping the creature at bay as I forced out "I, Andris, Matron Mistress of the Academy of Menzoberranzann do, princess of darkness."

The creature was hideous! Anais watched as it's many tenticals waved meticulously.

She cowered slightly as she saw how much effort it was taking Andris to keep it at bay.

What could they possibly learn from this!?

<WHY DO YOU SUMMON ME!!!> the yochol boomed again and I returned, trying not to let the strain show in my voice "To teach the children of the Lady of Chaos, O Unholy One." I relaxed my focus from the runes as was accorded and the tentacles of the handmaiden shot forward almost instantly, impaling one of the students.

Anais did her best not to jump as the student directly to her left was felled by the tentical.

She watched carefully, still unsure of what she was to be learning here.

Yochol-I began to speak again, this time saying <WITNESS THE WILL OF LLOTH, QUEEN OF SHADOWS. HER WHIM IS YOUR LAW, HER FAVOR YOUR HIGHEST GOAL.> My "lesson delivered, I returned to the dark plane that I called home, returning to my mistress.

Anais nodded to herself. Her goal was now not onlt to gain teh favor of her teachers, but her queen as well. It no longer mattered what she wished and didn't, all that mattered was her Queen.
