I only ask because i'm trying to and I don't feel like wasting my time if I can't. If so, does the egg have to be a different color or something?

The egg is the same color as always, er unless it's Manaphy.
The Pokemon can be shiny :o

The chances of hatching a shiny are the exact same as finding a shiny in the wild.
All eggs are the same, with the exception of Manaphy's egg.

The pokemon has to be hatched to see the shinyness. You can hatch them but it wont sparkle when it hatches.
