Well, Chikorita, its base form is named for the Spanish words Chica and Senorita which are words that refer to young girls. Also every member of that family tree in the anime has been female. Ironically, like all starters they are 7/8ths male.

I personally only saw Chikorita as female. Bayleef and Meganium always seemed male to me.

I always thought they were all feminine. Probably because of the "Chica" "Seniorita" thing.

I think all Meganiums are female. In the game, I never saw a male Meganium. Like Latias.

There are male Chikorita/Bayleef/Meganiums, but personally I see them all as more feminine Pokemon.

I see them as female Pokemon because of Chikorita, but considering they are males...

Meganium is a very feminine looking Pokemon. It has flowers around it, and it's curved smile makes it seem female. I dunno, some Pokemon should be given one gender, like Machamp *shudders*
