Lance is the best of the Elite 4.
He is a Dragon-Type Trainer.

In Generation I (http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Generation_I) and the Generation III (http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Generation_III) remakes, Lance is the fourth and final member of the Elite Four (http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Elite_Four). He must be defeated before facing Blue (http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Blue_%28game%29), the League Champion (http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/League_Champion). By the Generation II (http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Generation_II) games, he has proceeded to become League Champion.
He raises dragon (http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Dragon_%28type%29) Pokémon, which are both hard to catch and raise, but he prefers the superiority of Dragon-type Pokémon, believing them to be virtually indestructable.
Known as a cool and heroic trainer, Lance has a large fan-following. Lance also seems to have a liking for capes, as he is often seen buying identical capes at the Celadon Dept. Store (http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Celadon_Dept._Store).
Lance's grandfather was the elder of a famous clan of Dragon masters. Clair (http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Clair) is his cousin, and his hometown is Blackthorn City (http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Blackthorn_City).
Lance appeared at Mahogany Town (http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Mahogany_Town) to help the player fight Team Rocket in Johto (http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Johto). Lance rewards the player with the Whirlpool (http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Whirlpool_%28move%29) HM for helping him pull the plug on Team Rocket's sinister plans.
