So I just installed the NXE update for my Xbox 360 and may I say that everything looks a lot prettier.

No more clunky blades! ^^

I spent a while making my avatar look just as ugly as me, there's quite a lot of choice in the facial features bit, but they are lacking in the clothes department. :/

Anyway, Have you updated? What do you think of it?
And if not, then what are your reasons?

Oh my Gosh. I just updated today! I think it's pretty cool but I think they're trying to act like the Wii to much. That's just my opinoin though.

Yeah, first thing I thought was "Mii!" but it's ok. The whole interface is really sleek and easy to use and the party system was actually pretty handy. My friends and I had fun making ridiculous looking avatars.

I'm updating the moment I get home, if it isn't updated already. I e-mailed my brother to ask him to get it going but I don't know how often he checks that. XD; I'm really excited for this for a number of reasons. Miis are pretty fun and these avatars actually look better so... I've been looking forward to them for months, haha.

Plus I've always disliked the blade dashboard; I'm really happy its getting a much needed overhaul. :D Can't wait to try it out in a few hours. ♥

Me too! XD I just wish you could pick the colour of your clothes. :(

Yeah, that is one complaint I had. I don't really like the shirt I'm wearing, but they don't have any hoodies that look like mine (only one hoodie altogether) and that one looks lame and girlie. ;;

So, I've got some white shirt and worn-out jeans. XD;

Erica, I don't see yours up yet.

Nevermind, lolol:

Haven't updated yet, simply because my 360 happened to experience a hardware failure recently, so I won't be installing it for at least another couple of weeks, though judging by this thread, it sounds pretty cool. Guess I should ship off my console asap.

I just went to Xbox.com and you can get them there. You have to sign in with your XBL account info though.

I haven't updated yet, but I have to say that I'm sad to see the blade-style go D: I really liked it, and found it really easy/efficient to use. That doesn't mean I don't look forward to the change, though the presence of Mii like avatars is slightly annoying, considering how boring I found them on the Wii.

And wow that post came out very incoherently x_x

What's the "party" feature like, guys? :( Anyone tried it out? My gold expired the other week and I'm waiting till the end of the month to renew for a month so I can't do it yet.

Honestly, update. This one takes a bit to get used to, but when you press the xbox button (or whatever the hell the big middle button is >:O), what pops up is like a mini blades system. It's so much better.

Also avatars are fuuun. xD They're MUCH more customizable than they are on the Wii. (Figures, one of the main things Nintendo was pushing with the Wii ends up better on the 360, ahaha.) Clothes are kind of ehh but otherwise? They're cute. :3

I'm pleased with NXE, it runs a lot smoother and there's not a whole lot of unnecessary wait as the blade interface had.
I don't see why people are getting riled up by the avatars. Sure it isn't the most original feature ever, but they aren't bad.

Clothes are kind of ehh but otherwise? They're cute. :3
Microsoft has already announced that they plan to double the clothing collection within the next few months.
The avatar description itself also states that new clothes will be available every two weeks.

Just one point I'd like to make - I'm glad that they have ginger hair, unlike the Mii's. I should sue for discrimination...

So far I really, really like it. It seems very clean and smooth, unlike before. The party system has to be one of the best features in my eyes, though.

Could somebody PM me on where to click to get my avatar off xbox.com please? I can't find the option to get it anywhere :P

But yeah, I'm loving the update. The party system in particular is great, making the entire console seem a lot more of a sociable thing. The wii may be losing it's niché =]

EDIT: Scratch that, I found it :P

In case you haven't read about it yet, the first paid parts for avatars have become available (http://www.siliconera.com/2008/11/20/ninja-avatar-parts-bundled-with-ninja-blade-nxe-theme/).
They're bundled with the premium Ninja Blade 2 theme - in Japan.

I heard that might've just been a translation error and that it's just referring to the individual backdrops that appear behind your friends; I can't tell myself from reading the original Japanese page. :\

At any rate, the actual Ninja Blade theme looks really good. I might drop points on it if no themes come out for my favourite games soon. o_O

I don't like it at all. I already own a Wii so I've had enough of the stupid childish Mii things and White/Grey everywhere.

The Blade interface was much better. All it needed was some code optimization and a few new features.

What's the "party" feature like, guys? :( Anyone tried it out? My gold expired the other week and I'm waiting till the end of the month to renew for a month so I can't do it yet. It's both good and annoying (for a few games) at the same time. I love how you now can talk to more then one friend at a time. And they can all be playing different games (in fact it's happened quite a few times for me).
But at the same time, some of the games I play it kind of messes up a few things. But over all it's a nice add on.

I like the new dashboard. I didn't have a prob with the blades, but I think this is over all better then the old system. It's cleaner and personally better. I wish they uped the limit on friends (yes... I do max that thing out... I've got to clean it out like every week), and uped the limit you can send on voice messages (15 seconds is just annoying). But over all I like the new add on.

And as for my pic...

http://avatar.xboxlive.com/avatar/NGC%20Red%20Dragon/avatar-body.png

My hair style isn't right, and I wanted a red polo shirt (not a blue one). But over all I think it's close enough (even more so because my hair is longer now). XD

I love the NXE. It's so much cleaner and more efficient than the blades were. I love being able to see the parties and stuff on the friends list, and Avatars are so much better than Miis.

And my avatar...doesn't quite look like me, but it's close. Wish there were more options for clothes - the Xbox logo t-shirt isn't really what I had in mind. XD

Read the original article, and yeah... no avatar parts, unless they're referring to the special background for your Friends section as "avatar parts".

I'm not sure. The Marketplace download (http://marketplace.xbox.com/ja-JP/games/offers/033f0001-0000-4000-8000-0000465307d9) mentions five avatar items, that's about it.

Best bet to think of those as background items, since it includes a cityscape, Japanese garden, Japanese-style room, hexing room, and a collection of ninja tools.
And well, you can't really equip a cityscape on a person...

Is a (large) hard drive required for anything besides copying games from their discs? If I were to buy the Arcade configuration what would I be missing out on? Either as part of the NXE or the 360 in general.

A hard drive is pretty much required for downloading demos, extra content, etc. I'm finding it constraining to only have a 20GB hard drive. It'll mean I'm probably only going to get one game install at a time because those are between 4 and 6 GB, typically. So those, coupled with all the demos or XBLA games I have, mean it's really annoying to make room for new stuff. (My brother d/ling stuff all over the place doesn't help either.)

With the arcade, pretty much all you'd be able to do is save game files. And even then I think you'd need a memory card? It's not really worth it, imo, and you'd probably just be dishing out for an upgrade anyway.

Anything I would have to pay extra for, I wouldn't be doing (extra content, XBL, etc). Demos probably. I don't see a point in installing the games. But I would buy some XBLA games. It doesn't take any external storage?

I was asking because, if I'm able to find a 360 during Boxing Week for $150 or less then I would seriously consider getting one. But the arcade is the only one where it could possibly be likely. XD

If you don't copy all of your games to your X360 you'll never need a harddrive besides the one it comes with.

I don't think regular external drives or anything work with the 360; they make you buy one of theirs. I know there's a $100 "upgrade" available to Arcade owners. You get a 60GB hard drive, a headset, three months of XBL Gold, and an ethernet cable. So... it basically includes everything you'd be getting with a Pro console for the price of the difference.

He'll need one if he wants to buy/download XBLA games and demos though.

The upgrade I saw on the website was a 20GB drive and three months of XBL Gold for $30. Which I think if less than a memory card that holds a lot less, so that seems like the better deal.

Anyway, I think I'm taking away from the point of this thread.

Do any of you remember that post I made about looking forward to the new Xbox Experience?

Well, I loaded it up in my 360 and honestly, I really hate it!! I don't like those stupid avatars that came with it. I don't care about the avatars. It's just some stupid gimmick that they stole from Nintendo.

Plus, the new look screws up the theme I had in my background that I had on there before I downloaded the "Experience." I had this picture of the late Dale Earnhardt as my background. Now it's all screwed up because it streches it out. Plus, I can't use any of the background themes I had before, since there's no option to switch them anymore!!! Maybe I haven't fooled around with it as much as the rest of you. I want my themes I already had!!

So, I really don't like the new experience one bit so far. Come back and ask me in a few weeks if I still hold this view.
