What does Onix have on his head?

I'm currently in an argument over what is on top of onix's head. I won't say what i believe it is so as not to cloud your judgement?
So is it:
A Horn
A Head Dorsal Fin
A Stone Mohawk
An arbitary protrusion
Or aka Wikipedia "a member"
Help me end this argument and hopefully you will agree with me!

I believe it's a horn, if it was an arbitrary protrusion... then not all Onix would have it.
Now, the "spikes" on Steelix are arbitrary protrusions. And, if they were real, they'd be different for each Steelix.
That's what I think... =)

Alot of Pokémon have them, Charmeleon, Larvitar and many others. I think.. But who knows what it is.

I voted a horn because 1. it looks alot like a horn and 2. because i think onix can learn horn drill or something like that

It's just a random spike that looked cool. It's certainly not a 'member', as the placing of it is rather awkward.

Anyway, it's a sharp piece of rock meant to make up a horn. Nothing more.

I highly doubt Pokemon would put a 'member' on top of Onix's head. It's probably just a giant horn (that kicks ass)

If you read the index when you catch Onix in FR/LG, you can see that it says that Onix goes deep underground, so really you can't go underground with out a drill of some kind, but in Onix's case it's a horn.

It has to be a Horn, it wouldn't make sense for anything else.... (though a lot of things in the Pokemon universe don't make sense...)

No one actually know what is on Onixs' head we can only make speculations and I'm going for a horn because It makes the most sense out of everything else.

I always thought of it as a horn, since it uses it for digging and, in some cases, attacking (And that's the most logical reason, as far I can remember).

I don't what arbitrary potrusion is, nor do I want to know. And mohawk seems unlikely; Same can apply to Dorsal Fin.

I think it's a compass point, much like the nose of a Nosepass. Looking at the Ruby/Sapphire 'Dex entry:

"Onix has a magnet in its brain. It acts as a compass so that this Pokémon does not lose direction while it is tunneling. As it grows older, its body becomes increasingly rounder and smoother."

So I'd say it's used for directional purposes, as per a compass.

(You can shut up now if you're going to point out that Gen III came out six years after Gen I. X3)

But yes, the correct term would probably be the "cephalic" fin, but as far as I know there isn't such a fin on any fish anyway.

It is definitely a dorsal fin. Well it could be a horn but I always thought it was a fin.
