Should I get FFXI? I love MMORPG and if it were not for the fact it was p2p I would buy it instantly. But I need an answer, is it worth having to pay monthly? I love Guild Wars, but GW is a game you only have to pay once to play it for eternity.

Unless you have an Xbox 360 messenger kit, I advise against buying it. As a fan of MMOs, you should know that communication is the key in that genre, and no one will wait for you to type out messages on that on-screen keyboard. The device sells for around $30 and usually comes with a Headset.
As for the monthly fee, it's $12.95 a month.
