Why does paper beat rock in rock, paper, scissors?
I never really knew why.

Aizuke
December 6th, 2008, 09:36 PM
Because obviously scissors can't cut through a rock, but you can wrap paper around a rock and if it was alive, it would run out of oxygen and die.

Yeah.

The real answer is because you can get a paper cut from it. Duh.

Guillermo
December 6th, 2008, 09:38 PM
No. What can a rock do to paper? Paper is flat enough. You can also scrunch pieces of paper together to make it bigger than the rock.

Unforgettable
December 6th, 2008, 09:38 PM
It's really cause paper dominates all. Like trees. Everything but scissors really, but that's just a minor detail.

It shouldn't beat rock, that's why the game is inherently flawed. A better variation of "Rock-Paper-Scissors" is "Tin foil-Cat-Microwave." Guess how that one works!

Cid
December 6th, 2008, 10:18 PM
I guess it works just like the Starter Types of Pokemon.

Or another guess would be that Paper beats Rock because it can cover it all up. Then you won't see any sign of the rock, so it looks like the Paper "ate" the Rock.

Because paper is made from trees and everyone knows trees are better than rocks.

ANARCHit3cht
December 6th, 2008, 11:03 PM
Paper couldn't cover rock, the rock would tear it. They needed something that scissors could beat, and that could beat rock. Paper, technically beats rock because it covers it up. SO, the rock smashes scissors, and then they needed something scissors could beat.. that could also beat rock.. Cardboard? No, how would it beat rock.. so finally paper was chosen.

I would agree with you. But I also think that a rock could hardly do any damage to paper and paper can wrap around the rock.

Because I wrote a poem about it.

An Ode to the Inferiority of the Rock

Oh how I loathe thee, miserable rock --
Thy rough exterior is but a doorway to thy soul --

The amphitheater of corrupted thoughts
Not meant for the ears of the pure.
Crumbling monuments of scholars past,
Thy philosophy is unwelcome here.
Oh, miserable rock!
Thou claimest stability,
But in reality,
Thou art the epitome
Of all that is wrong in the world.

How canst thou remain in a world where
Water seethes at your very existence,
Grazing away at the withered field of
Your monotonous being? Wind
Scars thee, but you will not bleed
For thou hast no substance,
No sustenance for life.
Pale, deathly rock!

Oh, miserable rock... Thou art as ugly as sin!

Paper is better than rock because it is. If we consider the forces being moved by 1N:

Scissors could cut paper
Rock could ruin the Scissor blade
Paper could cover rock

Especially true if the rock is hard, dense, and shiny. Remember there are different types of rocks.

Paper wraps around the rock, enclosing it. The rock can't cut it or anything because it's enclosed.
The rock can simply hold the paper down, as a paperweight, so really it's an awkward game... but the supposed reason is that paper wraps around rock.

Because the paper finished Collages, and is trained in the art of war.

You may ask why scissors Win's paper, because scissors is extremely attractive and that's papers only weakness,

And rock beats scissors because rock has a six pack and scissors feel the need that they have to take care of the rock.
