so I've started reading Pokemon Special/Adventures, and I just arrived at volume 4. what I notice is that Yellow is continual refered as a he. but I've heard on forums before I started reading them that Yellow is female, and Yellow looks like as a female to me.
so, is Yellow male or female?

That's the surprise. You should've just kept reading instead of spoiling yourself.

so it was supposed to be a surprise? then I've got to say, it's pretty bad done, since I could tell it straight away it was a girl, but the references confused me.

Haven't you seen a guy that looks like a girl? I've seen quite a few, and vice versa. xD
These people are usually young looking too… I've been mistaken for the wrong gender too… from behind. xD

well, there is a teacher on my school who looks completely as a women. but when he talks you immediatly hear that it's actually a man. and I tell you, it freaks you out.
but other than that, no, I've never seen a guy who looks like a girl or vice versa.

You obviously don't frequent the right bars. *shot*
But yeah, don't get too hung up over it. It's very obvious once you've seen the hints in the dialogue, and when it's finally revealed it isn't exactly a shock.

When red helped her capture rattata that was the hint right there. Yeah they tried to confuse you for her ARC.

Yellow covers as a boy because she doesn't want anyone to know she's a girl for a specific reason. I would say but that would spoil the manga for you.

Blue told Yellow to disguise herself as a boy for security reasons.

Well in the end of the RGB arc...we find out Yellows a girl when she meets Red iclose to the end in Viridian. Then on the Yellow arc, they confuse us. =O So it's weird reading the "Best of" series. XD

I could tell almost imediately Yellow was the girl from Viridian so I hope we didn't spoil anything for you if you didn't figure it out for yourself.
My brother on the other hand got to that part and he was like "Holy ****! Yellow is a girl?!"
I guess some people just can't tell xD

yellow just hid her ponytail in that straw hat of hers, but she wore in less often in the FRLG series.

It fooled me first as well, but then I saw an icon of a girl who looked just like Yellow except she had a pony tail and wasn't wearing a hat on some fansite so I figured it out.

I love Yellow generally, but my friend likes her as a boy and hates her as a girl, I have no idea why. She was never a boy to begin with...
Well anyways, I like the way she looks in FRLG, because she looks cuter and prettier.

Well, Ex-cuuuuse me! I'm not the one who likes ONLY male characters, you're so finicky! They're not lies!!! Dx
Aw, you're getting us off topic, Dx.
Anyways...I wasn't fooled by Yellow concealing her gender, I always thought she was a bit too gentle to be a boy, she wasn't hot-blooded like any boys I know that're in the manga...eh, besides Ruby, but...

I knew the Yellow spoiler two years before I started reading the manga. My friend is a huge yellow fan, so she told me about Yellow and Specialshipping before I knew what the manga was about.

I don't realise Yellow is a girl until manga told me :P, so I really really suprisire, but now I reading back, I can't believe I has trusten that Yellow is a boy

It was incrdibly easy for me to figure out that she was girl. I'm having trouble finguring out why though... I'm already deep into the S/G/C arc and it still hasnt been answered... dont tell me though... unless it just is wat it is and theres no specific reason.

Yellow's a girl, you know it when they're in teh island in like volume nine, practically everyone had a hint about it...except Red who was the only one clueless enough to think he was a boy

im in the emerald arc now but I still can't figure out why yellow would hide the fact that she's a girl just because she liked him.

Because maybe she thought that if she told him, their friendship would change and Red would see her differently and not trust her. Thats my opinion at least.

I guess that would make sense. But still, she could've just come out and told him.

Imagine that one day you found out that one of your best guy-friends was a girl(hypothetically of course)
Yellow probably thought that since she kept it hidden that she should keep it that way until it became really ovious and that since Red was the only one who didn't know at that point she thought that he would freak-out if he found out which, in her defense(spoiler alert) he did.
Just imagine how akward that conversation would have been xD

You might be able to use that logic, but seriously, if she had waited until it was blatantly obvious, it would have been just as freaky. I mean seriously, if a friend of mine who I thought was a guy started to gradually grow boobs... well... that would just be...

That is just a gender stereotype about how boys and girls should act and Ruby, just as you pointed out as well as and Sapphire act just the opposite of what most people expect a boy and girl to act.

There were cases where both an older girl or a woman diguised as a boy or a man in both fiction and real life and people was unable to detect that they were female until they got injuried badly or became very sick.

Oh yeah! Like in that Disney movie Mulan! ...that's all I can think of right now.
I've seen lots of girls that could pass for boys if their hair was cut short, boys... not so much =/

Point is at first Yellow passed as a boy so that people wouldn't start treating her nice cause they thought she was a girl also they would've attacked her more if they knew that. Then when every thing was over as a lot of people said Red had already forgotten about meeting her two years earlier and was already convinced so Yellow didn't told him anything till like a year later when Gold made Yellow take off her hat in front of everyone.

I think it was more of a respect issue then fear of getting attacked.
the bitter end.
