A. Yes

B. Kinda

c. No

I feel it could be pointless at times, due to how many people actually make something out of there lifes? Hell I can't even remember what I learned in High School.

Yes, I definitely do. I mean, when are you actually gonna use your knowledge of geometry?

I don't think school itself is useless, but I do believe some of the classes are useless. I can understand having to take a variety of classes in high school, but some of the classes required for certain majors are pretty useless. I'm (going to be) a computer engineering major, and yet, I am required to take history classes and (ugh) a public speaking class. I can understand having a few communication classes, but not public speaking.

I would be incredibly bored, stupid, and without any friends whatsoever without school. I very much appreciate its influence on my life. Though I will admit I feel that most math is unnecessary to learn about in some of my classes at this point in school.

Not really...I have no reason to think that going to college is pointless. It's going to help me get a better job and, hopefully, a job I like. Just because it's difficult at some points doesn't meant it's pointless.

If you do anything related to engineering or construction. Property limits etc.

I do feel that it can be pointless, but not because the stuff you're learning is pointless, just the way it's taught all feels so obsolete. I could be years ahead of where I am now if they didn't force me to go along with the rest of my class.

For a very, very long time I felt that school was pointless- or at least, the majority of my classes were. I know that we need to learn these things, Math, English, Science, etc. but they throw in so many things that we don't need and disguise them as something useful. Then make us write a 500 word essay on WHY it's so useful.

My main problem was that I had learnt so much of the things I was being taught before. I moved schools several times, and the teaching schedules were different- I missed some things entirely, and did others twice, sometimes even three times. For example, in primary school I was never taught about the Romans or the Vikings, but I was taught about the Tudors twice. In high school I completely missed Space in Physics class, but was taught about, and failed, electricity twice.

Needlessly to say, I gave up when I took a look at my schedule. I wasn't going to do it again. And, it may sound like a cop out, but I felt I learned more at home, reading about things that interested me and learning new skills.

Like the others who have stated above, the purpose of these education facilities is not pointless. However some or most classes that are required for High School and College/University completion is just plain ridiculous. A fine example is my Calculus class. I hight doubt I will use limits, etc in the future. Though it does help stimulate your brain! \o/

Occasionally, like when I'm learning about something I'm never going to use in the career I've chosen. (I wanna be a Veterinarian, and I'm learning history. . >.> WHEN am I gunna use that? "You're pet is dying. . But, hey, did you know that England had the most land of any other country in the 1700s?" -_-)

Right now I'm in a totally useless class with a totally useless professor. It's the worst kind of pointless busywork - the kind that's insanely difficult. It's supposed to be a "financial math" course, but I'm seeing very little of the finance and a lot of the math seems "fuzzy" to me.

College, no~... School however is useless once one becomes literate and... whatever literate with numbers is (and for that, only competence in the four basic functions is necessary).

I could never feel that way about college. There are many different reasons for why I'm still enrolled in further education and they all primarily link towards several goals I want to achieve one day. This is simply a stepping stone I want to try my hardest to move on from in order to get where I want to be, and I know the rewards will definitely aid me in my endeavour. That said, there is no time where I'd ever feel a sense of pointlessness in going to college and doing whatever I can to get by.

I'm going into college to become a game programmer. There are no electives that will help me in any way with it. The only class that will have any use to me is math, which I'm taking up to calculus.

See right now, im going to own my LandScaping business, but math's pointless. I don't need calculous to measure the length/yardage of grass, shrubs. -_-

Math's totally useless to me.

I don't think that it is useless, just that some of the lessons you really don't need at all.

i'm a bubble. pop me.

I don't think that school or college is pintless. Sure, you have to learn stuff in school that really don't interest you but one point of having that much subjects in school is so people can decide what interests them. And even if one may not be interested in History several others will be. But of course it's not perfect - not even in college. eventhough i'm studying psychology which i really like, i don't like some aspects of my study. but that's just how it is and i belive that it will never be just how i would want it to be. and if it would be like that, other people might not like it.

so i belive you have to try and make it as interesting for you as you can because in the end you need the education.

Nope. I've never found school to be pointless, and that's because I know I need education. I've had friends who's parents dropped out and ended up in a pile of paperwork and bills they couldn't pay, and I don't want to end up like them.. so I do what I can at school and try to enjoy it while it lasts. I mean sure, there may be subjects you find utterly stupid and think; "How the hell is this going to help me when I'm older?" But you never know when it will. There's subjects I hate and subjects I like, but I do what I can and when I can.

Catching up with friends is good fun. :3

Most of my older friends won't be going to college or dropped out, but they still had great jobs.

I really want to go to college. To tell you guys the truth, I'm only going there to impress my parents that I can actually do it. xP

As I've got older I've been thinking it's more and more pointless...it feels to me the only point I'm learning this stuff is to pass the exam. Everything we learn is based around the exam and it feels as though the exam is more important than the actual information since the whole course is set around the questions in the exam. You could read up on other stuff that interests you in the subject if you like, but unless it's in the exam, it's pointless to do so. I know you need to stay at college to get a good job, but just because you stay and do the courses doesn't mean you'll get a good job when you look for one...

See I just gave up in Math. I can't do it (yet), im going to take it over.

Absolutely not. Here in my college, I'm often annoyed by the amount of people whining about having to do things because they don't see a point, or talking behind a teacher's back about how stupid a project is or the class itself.

One, it's disrespectful to the people teaching us these things. Two, there IS a point in these classes/projects. If they'd listen to the lectures, they'd hear the teacher tell them why they need to know this stuff. Maybe they don't see a point now, but if they just suck it up and get through it, later down the road they'll realize why they had to do that project.

Even if something isn't used later, it never hurts to have learned it.

You know that one day when you're in the supermarket, you'll need all your math skills to work out if those stack of tin cans are actually placed symmetrically. *shot*

But srsly, towards the higher levels of education, you should really be picking subjects you enjoy or will help you towards your career. Junior years are reserved for fun and that certainly is an important factor in everyone's lives - both academically and socially. Especially with the world's current economic crisis, a good education is more important than ever if you want to get a good job in the future and not risk redundancy.

No, it isn't entirely pointless, depending on what classes you take. Things like Woodshop or Debate are completely pointless unless you become a carpenter or a politician, but skills like knowing how to write an essay or do simple math are completely necessary.

But then again, you don't need any education at all if you're in a successful band or play on a professional sports team. And those seem to make the most money. :/

No, I don't. It will be hard and all but it's worth it. You can't get a job if you didn't go to college right? :3

Certain subjects like History are. I hate History.

Certain subjects like History are. I hate History.

Say whaaaaaaat? Are you serious? History is what made today, today. Imagine if certain things in history never happened, where would we be now? And what of the great depression never happened? We would be so screwed right now because we wouldn't know how to handle it. History lets us look back and know where we went wrong so we don't repeat the mistakes we made. /end rant (I'm looking into becoming a history teacher, so I hate when people think it's useless).

ALL SUBJECTS ARE NEEDED. I think it's lame when people whine and complain "omggggg life is so hard, when am i evar gonna use this evar?" umm, try everyday? the point of learning is not to actually apply the subject to your life, but the analytical and critical thinking skills you aquire from the subject. No, I don't enjoy every subject I take, but I'm always sure to take something out of it because that's why we go to school in the first place.

I think college and school in general is far from useless <3

I don't really see any class as pointless because you could take a class that you think you will hate and end up loving it and want a career that has something to do with it. I remember how I use to hate English and saw no point in me learning it if I already knew how to speak and write it; but now I was to become an ESL teacher.

D: One of the above

I cant choose. I guess it is, because we have the internet, but it is lies at times.... I dont know.....

School is usless because we just learn stuff that we could have learned just by goin on the comp, but we tend to get distracted and such... so....

I don't think it is. I find school as a positive learning experience for people. It can also be a terrible place of horror that will drive you insane.

I don't really enjoy socializing at school sometimes, but I wish I had the love of learning like some. I do like learning things that I love to do/know about, just not...math. :|
