They just announced the two games, showing their logos.

New Bark Town looks insane, your starter follows you, and it's a G/S remake which I still can't believe is finally coming out. I definitely will be importing this game from Japan even if it means getting a DS Lite from there as well.

This game is definitely looking good from what I'm seeing.

Here's what I think of it so far:
-Professor Elm's lab doesn't look much like a lab, but then again, it didn't look much like a lab in the original games either. Those stairs are quite interesting - maybe Elm's lab will have a second floor in this game?
-The artwork of the starters is... totally sweet. It's about time the Johto starters got new artwork. I wonder if their evolved forms will also be redrawn in this style?
-The fact that the starters follow you... now that is awesome on so many levels. I liked having your Pokemon follow you in Amity Square in D/P/Pl, but I was kind of annoyed that only certain Pokemon were allowed in.

First time I beat Pokemon Gold it was in Japanese. And I only had to use a guide for certain parts. (The Sodowoodo part comes to mind)

Hmm...the wind blows to the north-east... I know a certain Pokemon league that is in that direction too. XD Yeah I'm taking things out of nowhere, I know, but I can't help what I think. =P

And I recall the NPC standing there looking around in the videos to be based on a similarly-postioned female NPC in GSC.... (one which stopped you from leaving the town without a Pokemon)... -_-

Not too sure if the music beats the old stuff, but it is hard to hear it because they keep shouting loudly. >_< The main part one can hear, but some of the undertone-y stuff isn't as easy.

I'd say it's a touch slower paced as well, the music, than before.

what about hoenn and the legendaries there of? given that they could just be traded from D/P/Pt but its still a needed function in case you havent sent your pokemon to your other game so you would either have to have two DS handhelds or trade globally with everyone I'm not saying its of utter importance given that this would stimulate GTS trading further though the time machine isn't needed either

It is interesting. The way I see it there are a number of ways the can go with it.

- Every Pokemon can follow you if they lead the party. This would potentially be awesome, but would be a fair bit of work to implement, and may have some problems. Then there's the fact that walking around with legendary Pokemon would be odd as heck (if not amusing), and for Pokemon such as, say, Bellsprout, that are planted in the ground, or various fish Pokemon... yeah, I'm uncertain on this.

- GS starters will follow you in their multiple forms as well, whenever you want/have them in your party. More likely, this, I fell - can't be hard to implement another 6 moving sprites just for this. Even if they become as big as you size-wise. XD

- The only follow you for a short itme - say, until you return the egg Mr Pokemon gives you. This one here is one I like less... it would restrict them to those 1st-evolved forms though on the face of it.
Yet that is not fool-proof- one could always level up their Pokemon enough to evolve it - and then what? Hmm...that also seems iffy.

Could be any of these, but some seem more likely than others to me. We will have to wait and see though (for instance, maybe in later pics we cann see if they are still around? That may merely mean though that possible you could toggle this feature on and off).

Evolved Pokemon following you > More Sprites > Huge ROM > Longer time before release. I think they should scrap the idea of Pokemon following you, mainly because of ROM-size issues.

Maybe the mission in these games will simply be to beat the Kanto region. That wasn't such a hard feat in the past, so I hope they up the difficulty there.

In Platinum in the Amity Square the evolved forms of the starter Pokemon followed you so I think they can do it in HGSS.

That's probably very unlikely. It seems the Pokemon only follow you around before they evolved, or at least in their second stage. It is very unlikely that they'll follow you around in their final stage but, I've been wrong about these things before.

I wanna know though. If Typhlosion does stay out of its ball how idiotic can things get? Seriously I mean team rocket grunts going to you saying huh you don't look to strong while you have a 6 foot fire coming out of its neck Pokemon makes serious lollage material. XD

It would seem like the starter would only follow you around up to Mr. Pokemon's house. Someone elsewhere speculated that since the starter Pokemon isn't the player's yet until after returning to New Bark Town after the first rival battle, it would remain outside of the Pokeball just to "accompany" the player. Elm gives the player the starter just for the Mr. Pokemon errand originally

So, perhaps now in HG/SS, the starter just follows the player up to Mr. Pokemon's house to show that it's not quite the player's yet. Then, once the Pokemon becomes the player's after the first rival battle, it goes into the Pokeball because it's finally the player's. Maybe? o_O

I dunno. But it just seems kind of unlikely that the starter will follow the player around throughout the game. (Which is kind of disappointing.)
Maybe it will be this way (and I think it could), but as I mentioned before, there is the fact that if they go this way, one could train their starter enough to evolve it, and then if that happens... well, that makes things confusing then. We will have to wait and see though.

Arrgh the fact that the rival is back for sure and therefore the small chance that he wasn't has been ruled out still remains awesome. =D

How bloody excellent is it that the starter follows you? :P I'm totally getting Feraligatr to walk beside me. The final stage Sinnoh starters walked with the player in Amity Square in Platinum, so I can easily say I think Meganium/Typhlosion/Feraligatr will follow aswell. Elm's 2nd floor looks awesome. Really like the idea of the stairs at the side of the house/lab. Silver's hair looks lighter and shorter; I really hope there's more of a story to him this time around.

On a side note, how amazing is Goldenrod going to look? :P And Shiny Gyarados for everyone. They'll be spamming Wi-fi teams for sure. I can't wait till I'm soft resetting for the nature I want. :P

Is it only me who doesn't particularly like the idea of any Pokémon following you about? With Yellow, fair enough, because it had always set out to mirror the original anime series, but even so I found it fairly annoying at points.

I should probably be more excited than I currently am, given the reactions of most members of PC. I mean, sure, it's a new game in the series, and I'm excited for that reason, but I'm not all "OMFGGGGG YES" over the fact that it's a remake of the Gen II games. They are going to be so overhyped by the time of their release, if this continues. =|

Regardless of how long your starter follows you, I still think it's a nice feature. I'll be happy with whatever decision Nintendo has made on it whether it follows the entire time or just until the errand is complete. New Bark Town looks so pretty and I like the wind effect as well as Elm's new lab. The music is lovely and peaceful. It's perfect for this town. I kinda wish they showed more of the town in the clip, but at least it makes me want to see more of the game. Silver looks cute. I like the girl's hairstyle in the game, too. (The ponytail is nice.) Gold and Chikorita look adorable together. I'm looking forward to this game.

^ It is said that CoroCoro's latest issue coming up will having something to tell about the new games. Thanks to this show, the mystery of the blurred pictures from the preview have been revealed. While many said they saw Ho-oh and Lugia, and others saw green, it appears that it were the three starters. [lol] Pretty good info though.

I noticed that there are quite a few differences in these remakes (of course comparing them to D/P/Pt).

Looks like there is a new wind element, possibly having something to do with Ho-oh and/or Lugia.

I see the starter follows Gold around like in Yellow, possibly for the whole game (drawing this comparison from Amity Square in platinum).

There are also outdoor stairs and a brown bulge on the professor's lab, which could be a new game feature such as an observatory for whatever (purely hypothetical).

Lastly, as a simple plus, the shadows look larger and more defined, i mean there are shadows on the wind direction indicators and there were no (extending) shadows coming from the windmills in D/P/Pt.

It would be AWESOME if the starter's full-evo form followed you for all of the game! And since full-evo overworld sprites were seen in Platinum, I think that it'll be present in HG/SS. I really don't think Nintendo would be that cruel to only use such a nostalgic feature for a brief excursion in the game.

And I'm glad Nintendo has shown it can implement past, one-time features! These means that RSE-style Secret Bases can return for faster training! (I hope... :D) It is one of the features I'll sorely miss when I play Platinum... :() So far, 10/10 for HG/SS, and I hope the numerator increases on that fraction in the future! :P

Lastly, I REALLY hope Jimmy/Gold and Marina/Kris get awesome-looking redesigns. (I really don't want to have to name myself "Jimmy" in one of the potentially best Pokemon games of all time! (Yeah, I like to connect the game characters with the anime! Don't judge me! However, usually only the rival characters. If Jimmy/Gold looks exactly likes he does in the anime, it's gonna be the first time I'm forced to match the Player character to the anime :(. We hype over all this cause its plain awesome. And we did get to name him. I found it cool that to name the rival you had to report to the police. Also the redesigns will look excellent imo. As we know gold has a new hat(this time instead of gold front black back its black with yellow in the middle) and I expect the hoodie to be with a zipper in front and possibly short sleeved.

Exactly. Seeing as they have taken the same graphical look from DPPt into HGSS, there will definitely be a 2D and 3D look to the game. They have reused some tiles from DPPt as well seeing how similar the houses appear to be. Though, they have also recreated some new tiles using the same DPPt format, such as the trees. This alone can make you tell how they actually are putting in some time difference to the game, but keeping the look more up to date.

I don't see the big deal in why the starter shouldn't be allowed to follow you all the time, except at certain moments in the game. If they did it before in Yellow, and are bringing it back I don't see them not making it follow you most of the way through.
