You know how you see characters of the pokemon games in the (is it anime? I don't know)show and the female characters of ruby/sapphire and Diamond/Pearl become main characters in the show. So I view the show and game worlds as connected, so how about you?

The anime series and the manga is based roughly on the games. Thus you can say that these universes connect. Pokemon red/green were the first games. They became EXTREMELY successful and thus anime and manga were made from them in order to get more profit.(Those money hungry Nintendo people!!)
