No, this isn't a thread to request music. Just saying.
Now, when doing a game, what music format do you tend to use? .mp3 or midi? Do you find it 'wrong' to use a .mp3 file, which can contain very high quality instruments on a 2D game?

Whats wrong with mp3, sure they are big in file and very high quality. Though Midi's have their down sides as in not high quality but is used by everybody at one point.
I tend to do both, RMXP has a volume reduction so that kind of cancels out the weirdness of High and Low to even it out.

Midi's are like digital sheet music. You can use a piano, but it can sound so much better if you use different instruments. That is why mp3's have better quality. But its to each's own. You can use midi's if you are worried about file size. But if you want the game to sound good, you'll want to use mp3's. Think about it for a second. If you played the latest Zelda game or other console title, would you want the music to be midi? That probably wouldn't score very high on a gamespot rating... But yea, to each's own.

I try to avoid using mp3's as much as possible. I know mp3's have much higher quality but I really
like playing around with the pitch and that just doesn't work with mp3's.
At the moment I'm not using any mp3's in my game.

Well I myself prefer dealing with midis for the same reason as Shinylugia, but for some reason, rmxp (if youre using it) runs a lot more smooth (I mean 1000%+) when using mp3 since it doesn't need take time to read the digital music sheet (thats mainly noticed when starting a battle). Thats why I will release 2 versions of my game, one using mids and other mp3s.

You can change the pitch of mp3's, just not inside RPG Maker, you have to use audacity or Adobe Soundbooth.

I actually use both...Well I use a program that can edit the instruments and such in a midi file then I convert it to an mp3 file if The Instruments I want aren't suitable for midi. Or sometimes I'll just change the instruments in the midi so the sound is a bit different (Remix?).

My thoughts exactly. I completely agree with the conversion of midi to mp3 by means of using better instruments, AKA FL Studio import.

I prefer to use .it files, modular music. It's possible to have high quality music that has custom loop points and let's you change things within a module tracker.

At the moment, I use MP3's just because it's easier for me and those I'm working with to use.
That said, at the moment, we're not sure how we're putting music in our game, so it might have to change at some point.
