Another thing which not too many Americans are fans of. Though hopefully next years teams will change that.

Anyway, Formula One discussion thread.

Its pretty sad to see that Schumacher is not returning for Ferrari.

Well, I think that will be a hard blow for all the Schumi fans and the Valencia Circuit owners, because he was the only attractive for the Spanish audience now that Alonso is banned from the race.

Anyway, it's a chance for Luca Badoer, third/fourth driver in Ferrari for about 10 years, I think it was his time already to race x_x

Anyway, it will be fun to see if the Brawn can do anything after sinking into nothingness these weeks, specially in such a boring track where overtaking is basically impossible. I'm also intrigued by Hamilton, it was already time to see the current WDC doing... something to prove he is still the best driver.

I don't think Lewis is the best driver.

For most good drivers it is the tools that help them and it's the same for Lewis and I'll admit for Raikkonen (My favourite driver btw, he doesn't care much about the sport but whatever, I'll explain some other time if anyone actually cares about that).

I think the best driver at the moment is Alonso, Renault wasn't the best car at the time of his two titles and he was up against Schumacher.

Alonso made an incredibly stupid move to go to Renault. Because of his move, he's failed over the last 2 seasons. He should have just put his differences aside with Hamilton and stayed at Mclaren. I think we all underated Button when he was at Honda.. I thought he was a poor driver but it wasn't him.. it was Honda putting him in a terrible car.

I think F1 has been in a complete state this year.. so much mess with all the companies threatening to leave etc.

Agreed. I see how it was hard for him though. If I were world champ I'd want first preference if my teammate were a rookie.

I thought of him as a good driver after 03 or maybe 04 when he came 3rd in the championship in the Honda and then Honda just fell apart. Hungary 06 showed us another glimpse of his ability though. I think he'll still win the championship but the Red Bulls with be close behind. Next year when Ferrari and Mcclaren have hopefully sorted themselves out, it could be harder. I think he'll grab one or two wins next year and will finish about 3rd or 4th in the championship.

It has been for a few years, Spygate, The Diffusers etc.

It may have been similar for the past few years but this year seems serious.. they built it up so far saying that they were all going to leave. And then they didn't.. -__-

I'm pretty glad they didn't because if anyone was going to pull out it'd have been ferrari.

There is supposed to be 13 teams next year and I think the points system may need another retouch.

This seems pretty random but what is with Brawn's wheel discs?

Bright green but every other team just have a simple black.

Oh, I meant, I think Alonso is the best driver, and I wished for Massa to have won last year, but Hamilton is the current champion, just for that you'd expect something from him.

Raikkonen, I always hated him (starting when he was Alonso's rival during his first WDC year), but, after the ice-cream show in Malaisia I honestly think he should be fired from Ferrari already.

And, about the McLaren issue, after being penalized for following his team's orders in... Germany? and losing his pole to Hamilton, leaving the team that was trying to sink a two-times world champion into being a rookie's helper made all the sense in the world.
Let's hope he can get a decent car next year.

I only really like Raikkonen as a driver, I started wathing F1 in '02 so I got quickly sick of Schumacher winning and in '03 Raikkonen was his rival so it probably started from there. His attitude towars F1 is pretty appaling though.

I'd be glad if Alonso got a place at Ferrari, even at Raikkonen's expense.

Good to see that Renault's ban may be overturned.

Is Valencia a road track?

Went
August 21st, 2009, 09:09 AM
It's a bunch of streets in the beach zone of the city, crossing the harbor. Last week my step-dad and I drove around said streets on his car, so yeah.

Kind of Monaco but with wider roads so there is a smaller chance of a safety car.

Are overtaking oppurtunities as limited as they are there?

Went

Last year there were one or two overtakings during the first lap, if we don't count the pit stops and Alonso and Nakajima's crash. After that, maybe one more or so.

Mcclaren are obviously back especially if Kovalainen is managing to be ahead of all but his teammate.

BMW seem to have slightly improved aswell.

Luca was absolutely awful!

I didnt manage to catch it but I assumed he'd crashed considering how far behind he was.

If he didnt crash then I dont see why any team on the grid (Inc. Force India) would give him a test driver seat. Not a very safe backup.

Good race for Raikkonen but Badoer should never drive a formula one car again.

Barrichello deserves this after so many years of playing no.2 for Schumacher and now again this year with Button.

Not much of an action-packed race.

I love Hamilton's front-left tyre mechanic. He's my new idol.

Good race for Barrichello, he deserved it and decent race for the 3-6 drivers. Hamilton could have won easily if it hadn't been for... yeah. Great pit stop. Webber and Vettel, what in hell. And Button should have used extra-soft tyres waaaay earlier.

About Badoer and Buemi, I just don't have words XD

Nuke

You can add Grosjean to that list aswell.

I though this championship was over 6 races in but then Red Bull made me think otherwise but now I think Brawn should take this, even if their lead isnt that big. The fight for third place in the constructor's champonship should be good though especially if Ferrari find someone who can actually score points to fill in for Massa.

His engine blew didnt it?

The same engine plagued Renault for the first half of the season.

Then again I remember Red Bull having mechanic problems in recent years.

But anyway the point is it was the car and really it was Button & Webber who had a bad race.

@Went, I'd be amazed if Alonso stays next year considering the quality of his teammates this season. I'd be amazed anyway really.

After he won last week, my dad said he wouldnt win the championship but now you never know.

He doesnt seem like the champion type but its been an odd year so it could happen.

Badoer should just go.

Fuel Adjusted Grid:

1 Trulli (lap 12)
2 Vettel +0.156 secs (lap 15)
3 Heidfeld +0.157secs (lap 12)
4 Fisichella +0.211 (lap 10)
5 Kimi Raikkonen +0.290 (lap 12)
6 Mark Webber +0.341 (lap 13)
7 Robert Kubica +0.454 (lap 10)
8 Nico Rosberg +0.495 (lap 16)
9 Rubens Barrichello +0.538 (lap nine)
10 Timo Glock +0.562 (lap 10)

Brawn must have been pretty desperate to get Barrichello up on the grid considering Button's performance. That would explain the early stop planned. Fisi, just wow.

Oh my god.

Looking at that, I honestly think Fisi has real chances to make a podium with a... Force India. Kinda makes sense since he's the main candidate to get that poor second Ferrari after Badoer crashes against a wall tomorrow or something. And Vettel and Webber aren't as bad as they seemed at first. With a good start, they might do something.

About Brawn... well, I don't know what to say about them anymore. It's like their car is the first Ferrari we had this season. A few races ago, Button was the non-official-yet Champion. At this rate, he'll be lucky if he gets it.

While its great for Fisi its still dissapointing that he probably wont win. I hope he gets the 2nd seat for the rest of the season.

He would have won if the SC hadn't been deployed D: Either way, Raikkonen overtook all his way from 5th to 2nd outside the track, that should have been a drive through... oh well.

Poor Alonso, Sutil destroyed his tyre and his chances to get in the top 5... if it hadn't been for that crash in the first lap, he would have got 7th after the pit stop, when all the people ahead of him had to pit yet again.

Barrichello, nice fire in his engine. Two points for him and six for Vettel. Button shuld be careful.

Finally, two things: we should have more races like this, honestly. All the previous ones (save for Australia, maybe), have been really boring compared to this. And Moza will be fun if the Force Indias keep like this. Honestly XD

Qualifying should be fun and it'll be good to see how much Ferrari & Mcclaren get in the way of the championship.

I had betted on him XD Oh well, they can still give Hamilton a penalty for sending Buemi off-track during Q2.

1 Kovalainen (lap 28)
2 Rubens Barrichello +0.016secs (lap 30)
3 Lewis Hamilton +0.047secs (lap 16)
4 Jenson Button +0.073 (lap 29)
5 Adrian Sutil +0.200 (lap 17)
6 Kimi Raikkonen +0.266 (lap 19)
7 Vitantonio Liuzzi +0.296 (lap 27)
8 Sebastian Vettel +0.363 (lap 27)
9 Fernando Alonso +0.381 (lap 26)
10 Mark Webber +0.469 (lap 28)

Fuel adjusted grid.

Kovalainen was amazing then apparently and this confirms my thoughts that Hamilton was on a much lighter strategy than most others.

Sutil will probably be robbed down the first corner and then lose more time when he pits so he might only score a few points.

Well, the Red Bulls have lost their last chance. Now Button or maybe Barrichello if Button screws up somehow will get the championship.

Hamilton had a really weird strategy and the crash was a pity. The championship would be funnier had he overtaken Button.

About Raikkonen, he's doing a great job with the Ferrari. And he'll have nightmares with the Force Indias, this is the second race he's followed by one from the first until the last turn of the race XD

Alonso, expected more from his new KERS. And Kovalainen... what happened to the guy who was one of the favourites to win here? D:

Kimi has been amazing lately which is probably a good thing due to the quality of his teammates lately.

Fisi was dissapointing and so were the Red Bulls.

The championship is over too early.

The championship is over too early.

I wonder what would have happened with the "The guy who wins more races wins" system that was talked about some months ago.

Button would have had a heck of an advantage with that system, with this one we can still hope for a properly-timed crash in Singapore so Barrichello can win the race[/shot] to revive the competition.

I would like to say, Fisi did well all things considered. Going into another car, in the last minute is a horrible thing. Very complex setups, differing driving styles. KERS system alone could have been the problem.

Me neither, Kimi took the championship against all odds and there was action from start to finish.

To top it off, I saw it in a cinema.

Fisi does need to adjust but hopefully over next race's practice.

Another weird thing, will they let the investors who are going to buy/bought BMW have the 14th team? Hell, it would be a good choice, the team has the infrastructure, and the way it looks, one of the other new teams might not make it (USF1 has my money), so will let Sabur ride again?

I'd say the worst that can happen is them crumbling, obviously.

The least that will happen(and this almost certainly will), is Alonso leaving now.

I'm not sure the dropping of position was necessary, what was the full details behind it, I saw some brief info, and the yellow was out, but were they already committed to the turn?

Webber got dropped for fixing the car after a crash (had to start from the pit lane), Buemi got dropped for driving with a smashed front wing after crashing instead of stopping and getting out of the car, Button and Barrichello (and someone else I'm forgetting about... hmm) got dropped for setting a fastest lap with yellow flags, Alonso set a fastest second sector (even if he left for the pits instead of finishing the lap and got kicked out of the Q3 by the Brawns, thus being the biggest loser here), and Kovalainen changed the gearbox.

Apparently, only the three front drivers (Vettel, Hamilton and Trulli) kept their places in the starting grid XD

WENT PRAISING KIMI!? WHAT!?

Like lucas said unfortunately Hamilton has a chance again next year, Vettel I'm not too sure about as Red Bull have lacked toward the end of the season.

I personally think Alonso will be up there, the best driver (IMO) in what will be one of the best cars next season.
