Pokémon: Shimmering Tempest

…The Sun may be beaming over the hilltops, but there is a Storm brewing beyond the waves…

Hack Base: Pokémon FireRed

There have always been monsters in the world. As they roamed the Pre-Historic Earth man learnt to live with a multitude of beasts, fulfilling both medial daily chores and spilling the blood of adversaries in horrific and gruesome combat. Side-by-side, man and monster have stood fast in the face of countless hardships, making the best of the land and oceans to achieve greatness and unbreakable bonds forged in iron and friendship.

However, there have always been Pokémon who shun man, refusing to be domesticated and have their wills broken by what is always considered to being the dominating force in the affiliation. Hiding away, any attempt to reach such monsters has always been in vain, whether it is due to the circulated stories of ancient and uncontrollable power, or the sheer inability to traverse the realms of the most powerful monsters ever seen.

They used to crouch in wait, apprehensively expecting the spawn of benevolent men to snatch the coveted freedom, power and courage they possess, harnessing it as their own.

…Now they scamper in fear…

As day dawns on the fertile lands of Lowen, the Winds are shifting in the cool autumn breeze, and the Heavens are fading behind the dreaded clouds of ill fortune’s discontent.

Having been bestowed upon them centuries ago, they are truly worthy of the title ‘Legendary’.

…And they are being invaded…

Story / Background Information:

Oak:
Having fled from the Team Rocket devastated region of Kanto, Professor Oak now resides in the relatively peaceful lands of Lowen, continuing his research into the many fields of Pokémon physiology, psychology and behavior in the friendly Stilwal Town. Out on a day trip to the nearby Haplon Cave with an experienced hiker, the ground suddenly shakes violently whilst the Professor is underground, sending him to spiral down into the deep and dark depths of the Lowen underworld.

Team Rocket:
Fresh from achieving a long sought-after dynastic monopoly over the Kanto region, Team Rocket has set its sight on Lowen, eager to rip the land apart in order to obtain an Empire of dominance over people and Pokémon alike. Starting off slow and laying the groundwork for a region-wide authority, Team Rocket has built up its contacts and bases of operations, in preparation for a decisive strike. With a new weapon in their arsenal and a strategy tailor-made to force Lowen to capitulate her bounty, the Rockets will have no trouble in achieving their aims at the expense of justice, equality and free will for all.

Miscellania:
An adolescent seeking Professor Oak to begin their Pokémon journey feels the ground shaking and is alerted to the fact that the Professor is in dire need of rescuing from the now unstable Haplon Cave system. Armed with nothing but his bare hands and messages of hope from a flabbergasted Aide, the teenager bravely descends into the pit unknowing of what will happen to him, or what caused the violent earthquake that swallowed the Professor whole...

Emerging from Haplon Cave after reviving the dazed Professor Oak, the two find themselves in nearby Bolderville where the young hero is rewarded with his own Pokémon to protect him by an associate of the Professor. Following the man to his workshop, the teenager is given the choice between three Pokémon, joining in the choosing ceremony which first caused him to seek out Professor Oak. The instant a he chooses his partner is chosen, a rash and hot-headed boy jumps from the assembled crowd, eager to avenge the fact that the hero took the Pokémon that he wanted...

What happens from thereafter? Who knows? It’s all up to you…

Wow, you're well underway with this hack. You could have skipped the scrapbox with this one!

I like how well organized everything is, as well as the abundant amount of information on your games back story and features.

I look forward to seeing more to come from your hack, DrFuji!

EDIT: Wow, three wow's in a row. vvv

EDIT 2: 4 wows.*

Wow, I agree with Cello! You've got yourself organised, features, screenies, userbars, and an appealing storyline!

I bid you best of luck. Good thing is, I'm assured this won't need luck, it'll be a success ;-)

Keep it up!

Nah, I'm nowhere near ready to go to progressing Hacks, I have only done up to Route 2 and have the barest of scripts in some places - but thanks for thinking that I could - it means alot.

I like how well organized everything is, as well as the abundant amount of information on your games back story and features.

I've been sitting on it and thinking about it for a while, allowing me to fully grasp what I was trying to achieve and get a decent backstory going. As for organisation, I just don't like to clutter stuff =P

I bid you best of luck. Good thing is, I'm assured this won't need luck, it'll be a success ;-)

Thanks for the vote of confidence!

Well, it took a while after coming up with the basic concept of a region shape, but I've finally put mouse to computer and made a basic region of Lowen. And just to give an idea of where you begin, the home town is the one in the top left hand corner with a stretch of land going down south. I know that its not perfect, and I have the feeling that I'm going to be editing it in the future (Possibly drastically, but nothing is set).

The main issue that I can see is that there appear to be too many 'arms' branching out from the centre of the map. This is making it so that there are two or three central towns / cities which you will have to walk through if you want to get from place to the other. It just doesn't seem to have an aspect of linear progression, especially when compared to maps such as Kanto or Hoenn. It just seems to be messy and... off.

http://i635.photobucket.com/albums/uu74/PocketmonmMaster/TownMap-2.png

If anyone feels like commenting on, feel free to do so.

Note: I only have the first couple of town names set out at this point in time, other flashes of inspiration / bad puns of little significance will come when they come.

In addition, I finally got over a block of scripting that was seriously annoying me. Things weren't going they way they were suppossed to, I got fed up and urrgh... It works now.

The map was edited into the original post... Its right below the screenshots @_@

As for the screenshots themselves, they're essentially upto where I'm up to. I'm kind of going on a scripting rampage right now and haven't been able to progress mapwise or take shorts of anything too significant.

...Though now that I think about it, I probably should have added a shot of the player getting his first Pokemon... Maybe later.

How did you insert the frames round the Screenies?

I just saved the screenshot to my computer and opened it up in paint, gave it a one/two pixel border and painted the free-space black. Its as simple as that.

Lolz! Me dumb. I forgot that.
Waiting for new screens.

Good to hear not the dumb part but right now I've got about six exams to prepare for. While I'll still be working on this during study breaks and stuff, don't expect anything to drastic for the next one and a half weeks...

After that however... KABLAMO!

The screenshot on the left is actually from the same cave that used to be in my original screenshots. I decided that this scheme seemed to work much better than 'generic cave' - So I just used the Digglet's Cave tiles. You couldn't see the Rocket in the other shot, but I felt that it would be more intriguing if I included him in this one.

The shot on the right is the character and his (soon to be) rival getting their first Pokemon. It doesn't look like the bog-standard Lab scenario, does it? Where could it be? And who is that darkenned fellow standing to the right of the boys?...

Comment if you wish.

Hey, thanks for the support. It means alot.

Looking back at that screenshot from the newly renovated cave though, I just realised that there is nothing but exclamation marks from Oak when he should have been trying to be a stealthy ninja >_> (!)

Wow...
the story's amazing.

What I've written up isn't that spectacular, I just added some razzle-dazzle description over an essentially hollow framework. In addition, whats there is only the surface - You haven't seen all that I have stored up in my noggin'.

Bumppity Bump Bump, Double Post Bump.

Huzzah! Exams are over! Now I can back to doing god-knows-what with my hack.

Over the past week I've been having thoughts about the first Gym in the game. Previously I had decided that it was going to be Normal-type based but I'm begining to have second thoughts about that. I've been pondering about making it an Ice-type gym, but that might be a bit strong for that early in the game and take a really good type from later on. The reason that I've been thinking about an Ice-type Gym is because its not to far away from Shiver Cavern (which you can probably imagine as being a cold place - its even in one of the screenshots).

So my question to anyone who is reading this thread is: should I make the first a gym a Normal or Ice based Gym. I'd just like to see the general mood of the people here, but I'll leave my decision a suprise until I actually release the game itself - I'm sure that nobody would mind that.

So, go on, which shall it be?

DrFuji

Bumppity Bump Bump, Triple Post Bump.

Over the past week or so I've made some great headway with Shimmering Tempest. I've completed one and a half towns, a route, and redesigned the first floor of Frigid Cavern so that it is now decent and does not require you to gouge out your eyes before viewing. Some scripts need to be polished, but I have most of them done to a state where I am satisfied.

Since nobody replied or elaborated on my post above, I have come to the decision of what type the first Gym shall specialise in, though none but I shall know for the moment. Rest assured that it will be a challenge, especially since I am considering limiting you to only using three or less Pokemon to even begin the match (Good idea? Yes? No? Comment pl0x).

I haven't done anything major enough to warrent screenshots, but more shall come as I push ever deeper into Shimmering Tempest.

That's a pretty good idea, and some of your features caught my attention.

>>New Movesets / Base Stats for some previously forgettable Pokémon!
I really want details on that =)

>>Areas specifically designed for the swapping of Pokémon – Introducing Trade Houses!
That's even better! Instead of just rupturing your head on "where that Pokemon might be", you might instead have a great variety of pokemon trades! hence the EXP boost.

Moving on, your World Map is also neatly organised.
The plot is a new color, too. Well thought out and suspensive (the Gray colour hurts my eyes a bit, though, eheheh)

>>it will be a challenge, especially since I am considering limiting you to only using three or less Pokemon to even begin the match
By that, do you mean that you must have caught only 3 Pokemon or just have 3 or more empty slots in your party in order to battle?
If I'm guessing the bold part, then it has both Pros and Cons.
Pros
You use strategy to win, since you are having limitations (except of course if your Pokemon's levels are uber high by the time you challenge the Leader)
Cons
If the Pokemon you choose are type-disadvantage, then you have no hope of winning (except for the reason above, though)
Still, you might as well not have advanced a lot on catching Pokemon by that point, so I personally don't mind.

Finally, concerning the first Gym, it's good that you came to a final decision, but I'll state my opinion nonetheless:
I always considered BUG type to be the best as a first Gym; it's not too easy, not too difficult, and BUG Pokemon have early evolutions, too (because i'm tired of seeing haxxed evos on first gyms, like 15 lvl Pigeotto etc.)
Again, it is my personal opinion. Don't mind my BUG obssession, though. =P

Thanks for those kind words.

>>New Movesets / Base Stats for some previously forgettable Pokémon!

Ohohoh... Thats for me to know (for now), and you to find out ;D

It will mainly concern Pokemon which are seen to be a bit 'flat' in the battling stakes. Things like early Bugs (Caterpie, Weedle etc.) and common Normals (Rattata, Sentret etc.) will be reaping the the benefits of my modulation, while other Pokemon may recieved the odd move change or stat boost/ drop. At the moment I seem to be in the habit of sacrificing a stat for the benefit of the others, e.g. Furret has a beastly attack, but its Special Defence has been reduced to compensate - So most Pokemon will have more defined roles (Special Sweeper, Physical Wall) than being a rounded Pokemon.

>>Areas specifically designed for the swapping of Pokémon – Introducing Trade Houses!

Indeed. I've always been a fan of Trading, so I thought I might as well make it more prominent while deteriming how future events turn out depending on certain trades made... :3

Moving on, your World Map is also neatly organised.

Thank you.

The plot is a new color, too. Well thought out and suspensive (the Gray colour hurts my eyes a bit, though, eheheh)

Once again, thanks - Sorry about the eye damage, though :S

>>it will be a challenge, especially since I am considering limiting you to only using three or less Pokemon to even begin the match
By that, do you mean that you must have caught only 3 Pokemon or just have 3 or more empty slots in your party in order to battle?
If I'm guessing the bold part, then it has both Pros and Cons.

Yeah, its the bolded part I'm focusing on, but I'm thinking about Implementing the system used by the Battle Frontier (Namely, walking up with as many Pokemon as you want, and choosing three to fight with - If its possible, I've struck gold). The Cons aren't really cons in the long run. If anything it will make a player re-think their team, see how their Pokemon stack up against the cream of the crop and employ strategies to overcome the Leaders.

Bug was a type that was on the shortlist to head the Gym, but it eventually fellout to the current (mysterious) victor. On top of that, I hate those cheating Gym Leaders aswell, You'll never see any of them hanging aroud - Lv9 Pidgeotto my ass!

Thankyou very much, NiKaNoRou, for your attention to the first post and stating your opinions on Shimmering Tempest, I find it to be very sincere and pleasing. I hope you comment in the future as more and more is revealed...

And I forgot to mention in my last post: I shall be instituting a couple of trainers on a number of routes that are stronger than most others at their rank. Egg moves, items and high AI values will not be off limits, so you'd better be prepared for each battle - you'll never know who is a cheater master in disguise!

But yeah High AI is a good Thought.

Yes, that is very true, but in the early trainer battles, Pokemon only have 2-3 moves, so AI won't come into play all that often. From the second Gym or so onwards, where Pokemon have a full set of moves, the AI will really reveal itself to be a force during the battle.

Anyhow, i'll be supporting your hack from now on =)

So, moving on, there's plenty more to ask and converse about.
Below there is a list of question that I wolud like to be answered (never mind if you don't want to answer, you can keep secrets, that's the magic after all/if you don't know yet, it's okay, too. I'm just expressing interest)

How many Pokemon will you be able to catch?
Will there be 4th gen/fakemon included?
Which are the pokemon starters?
Will the whole game be based on events or be freelancing?
How many badges do you need to obtain?
What is the name of this Hack referring to?
Will there be custom OWs for the Hero/ine and the rival?
Any custom sprites for the Pokemon?
Any custom items?

Also, here's a suggestion from me: almost 95% of the people here dislike HM slaves in a hack. If you can turn HMs into items, you would have a great boost. Well that's what I think about.

Cheers.
P.S: there's more from where that came from! expect more replies. Keep it up.

Cool, more stuff to reply to! :3

How many Pokemon will you be able to catch?
Will there be 4th gen/fakemon included?

At the moment I am planning to have all 251 Kanto/ Johto species, but I am undecided as to wether I should include Hoenn varieties. I'm probably leaning towards saying yes, due to the fact that 251 is never enough these days, and besides, what is a Pokemon game without diversity?

I have no plans to introduce Sinnoh Pokemon or have some Fakemons because I'm terrible with Pixel Art and doubt that I could neatly fit all of them into the game.

Which are the pokemon starters?
Will the whole game be based on events or be freelancing?

I want to stress that this has nothing to do with HG/SS, but the starters will be the Johto Starters because I've played FR/LG so many times the Kanto Starters appear to be dull and lifeless - While Johto is new and envigorating for a player who has done nothing but train Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle a million times over.

I'm going with the Linear Collect-Badges-And-HMs-To-Advance-The-Trainer-And-Subsequent-Story-Further-Style of play. I have no idea how removing restrictions would allow a story to progress, or even a trainer to. One minute they would be fighting Lv2 Rattata, the next they'd be up against a Lv46 Gyarados. Restrictions save people from being overwhelmed or entering places which are far to strong for them. I am a Luddite.

How many badges do you need to obtain?
What is the name of this Hack referring to?

The good old bog-standard Eight Badges can be collected in Lowen. I like game canon so I'd prefer to stick it. Besides, it doesn't mean that I have to change the trainer card or anything :O

You'll find out when it comes out ;P

Will there be custom OWs for the Hero/ine and the rival?
Any custom sprites for the Pokemon?

As stated earlier, I'm a terrible spriter/ OW/ Tile maker so if there were to be any inserted into the game, I certainly wouldn't be doing it. At the moment my focus is on mapping and scripting with editing on the side, but if I reach a point where I feel like a new hero/ine (or line of OWs) would be a breath of fresh air, I would definately contact someone with the skills which I lack :P

Also, here's a suggestion from me: almost 95% of the people here dislike HM slaves in a hack. If you can turn HMs into items, you would have a great boost. Well that's what I think about.

But HM Slaves are fun; look at Bidoof, he loves it!

I might, though I'm not 100% hooked on the idea.

Any custom items?
and try to include new items please...

I hear you both. I wasn't planning to, but if you're both insistant, I guess I'll have to :P

Anyhow, i'll be supporting your hack from now on =)

Cool man, thats awesome! I've noticed a few errors with the banner so I'll be uploading a more improved version after school this afternoon.

I'm with this hack too...
Need any help,just ask!!

Alright, that is just as awesome! At the moment I'm not looking for help - I want to see how far I can go by myself before my newbiness catches up with me - but the support is far more than just envigorating.

Wow. That worldmap is great.

Good luck!

Thanks, but I'm still not sure that it looks 'Linear enough'.

Cool, more stuff to reply to! :3
And more stuff to come.

At the moment I am planning to have all 251 Kanto/ Johto species, but I am undecided as to wether I should include Hoenn varieties. I'm probably leaning towards saying yes, due to the fact that 251 is never enough these days, and besides, what is a Pokemon game without diversity?
Having lots of Pokemon is everything about this game, but personally I like having a wide variety =)
I have no plans to introduce Sinnoh Pokemon or have some Fakemons because I'm terrible with Pixel Art and doubt that I could neatly fit all of them into the game.
I'm asking for fakemon because you are introducing a new region. So it's a natural thought by me that new regions include new Pokemon. I have some experience in Fakemon spriting (from scratch), so I might help there if you decide to add them.
Proof:
http://i37.tinypic.com/1zxo5s5.pnghttp://i37.tinypic.com/dnj3uc.pnghttp://i35.tinypic.com/24awysl.png
these are like starters, they are one of my first work. My latest work is on another, non-internet PC so I have to transfer it. Anyway.

I second that. JOHTO it is, then.
That's the best and most correct argument you'd put up. Moving on...

The good old bog-standard Eight Badges can be collected in Lowen. I like game canon so I'd prefer to stick it. Besides, it doesn't mean that I have to change the trainer card or anything :O
Haha, okay, so the E4 will exist, too?

As stated earlier, I'm a terrible spriter/ OW/ Tile maker so if there were to be any inserted into the game, I certainly wouldn't be doing it. At the moment my focus is on mapping and scripting with editing on the side, but if I reach a point where I feel like a new hero/ine (or line of OWs) would be a breath of fresh air, I would definately contact someone with the skills which I lack :P
Okay, don't mind me, I was just having questions out of interest.

But HM Slaves are fun; look at Bidoof, he loves it!

I might, though I'm not 100% hooked on the idea.
It was just a suggestion.

I hear you both. I wasn't planning to, but if you're both insistant, I guess I'll have to :PThen again, it was JUST a suggestion.

I've noticed a few errors with the banner so I'll be uploading a more improved version after school this afternoon.
Huh? isn't it already neat? Anyway, I edited it and now there's link to your topic, too.

All in all, I have lots of things to suggest. But this time I might PM. See ya!

Haha, neat. But as I said, I'm not really considering the possiblity of Fakemon, espicially if implemented on a large scale. While I'm not saying no to the idea, I'm leaning pretty close to it.

Haha, okay, so the E4 will exist, too?

Yep, brand-spankin' new.

It was just a suggestion.
Then again, it was JUST a suggestion.

But they got me thinking about finer aspects which I hadn't taken into account. These two questions tweaked my mind into thinking "what if..." - I have to consider the possibilities, as they could both be implemented.

All in all, I have lots of things to suggest. But this time I might PM. See ya!

Bumpitty, Bump, Bump. Double Post Bump.

Sorry about not posting for the past couple of days, I was on holidays with my parent and didn't realise that there wasn't internet in the middle of nowhere. At least I was able to catch-up with a lot of work that I had been putting off for a while. At this point, I have about 95% of scripts made (For maps already created) inserted or ready to be inserted, which is pretty good for someone who likes to keep pushing forwards - Edits and errors were also corrected. My mapping is also on a role - I made a massive forest map for players to get lost in and call for mummy just like I did after a marathon work session. And on top of all of that, I had a flash of inspiration as to my story. My lips are sealed at the moment, but rest assured the it will be very... Interesting...

I've done two seperate playthroughs so far, and let me tell you, it is a challenge. Essentially, you can't progress from one route to another without lifting all of your Pokemon two or three levels because you'd be hopelessly outclassed and outgunned by opposing trainers. I'll be kicking the difficulty gauge down a notch or two over the comming days, because otherwise its just going to stay as a massive grind-fest, which I'm sure nobody wants.

During my time away, I also came to the conclusion that I can't level script to save my life. I had two guides with me and attempted to do the examples provides, but it was to no avail. Watch this space, but don't hold your breath.

I also ruined my world map. I made a route where there shouldn't be one, but I'm not dropping it. Edits to the World Map will be taking place shortly.

Here come the part that everyone loves: Screenshots! I have four of them today, but rest assured that there will be more taken over the next week or so.

http://i635.photobucket.com/albums/uu74/PocketmonmMaster/Manhunt.png http://i635.photobucket.com/albums/uu74/PocketmonmMaster/PowderSnow.png http://i635.photobucket.com/albums/uu74/PocketmonmMaster/RivalatChristies.png http://i635.photobucket.com/albums/uu74/PocketmonmMaster/TheCapeofLowen-1.png

Finally, I have found my first bug that kills the game :D - If you open up your party menu while in the same room/ map of a certain sprite (The kid with the GBA) you will switch bodies and have super-restrictive movements. I have no idea how to fix this, so it looks like I'm going to have to cut the GBA kids from the land of Lowen, which is a shame since the up-comming Trade Houses won't be the same without them...

Anyways, long story short I did a lot of work when I should have been relaxing and posts are money. Keep on posting, peoples! :D

Good thing that you're still passionate about it. I must say though, can you say more about those trade houses?
will there be one in every city?
What will you do in them?
Is there a pattern on trades?

Looking forward to your answer. Except if you are keeping this for the release, then I suppose I'm stupid for posting that xD

Bumpitty, Bump, Bump. Triple Post Bump.

Hooray, posts :D

I did heaps of stuff yester, the majority being experimentation with the Pokedex order and alternate entries (Team Snag'em's tools Rock!); I have some screen shots of my results further down, but for now I'll just ramble on about nothing. I made a preliminary Pokedex last night, based on the Pokemon that you can encounter in maps and trainerbattles already built into the game and included their extended families. At this point I have reached a grand total of 109, and I haven't even begun to design the second gym, so how's that for variety, huh? :P

The number of 109 also indicates that I have finally settled on allowing Hoenn Pokemon have some action in the game after wavering for a while due to the limits of encounter space and how that would affect the encounter rates of other Pokemon. But, I shall be taking a page out of zel's book and only putting one or two on a route, as well as making them rare (but not to the extent of Shiny Gold).

I also finally mapped most of Poliberg (still have to do the Gym, though), Lowen's very own police-state rolled into a compact size. With a HQ, gym and suprise script that shall skew the story beyond all reason... Its going to be awesome when I finish...

Anyways, screenshot time, and yes, the Butterfree is wild :P

http://i635.photobucket.com/albums/uu74/PocketmonmMaster/FrickleForest.png http://i635.photobucket.com/albums/uu74/PocketmonmMaster/Butterfree.png http://i635.photobucket.com/albums/uu74/PocketmonmMaster/Birthday.png

Here are some Pokedex entries that I made for the starters and their evolutions (Note: I will be doing alternate entries for some Pokemon, but not all Pokemon :/).

Reply time :D

will there be one in every city?
What will you do in them?
Is there a pattern on trades?

Therre won't be one in every city, but most sizeable cities will have them.

I think its pretty obvious what you do with them XD

What do you mean by 'pattern'? :/

Looking forward to your answer. Except if you are keeping this for the release, then I suppose I'm stupid for posting that xD

Well, I guess that that I can say that in some trades, you might unlock some things the further you go into the game. I'm not going to say what will happen, or which trades it will apply to, but I'm giving everyone an incentive to trade, beyond getting Pokemon that level-up fast. And don't me started on what happens once you've completed every single trade.

Dude, this is going awesome!! I would expect this to be nothing less than AWESOME!!!! The screens are really good. It's really well organized! Wow.... The story and everything looks really good.

Hehe, thanks mate! I like organisation and planning ahead, and I like awesome even better.

I can also make banners, so if you want me to, just PM me telling what you want on it. Anyways, good luck!!!!!!

Cool, I can only make User Bars decently, so a benner wouldn't hurt. Is it okay if I cantact you in the next day or so?

I'll play this when you have the beta's released. (That is, if I can by then :P )

Speaking of Beta's, I've been meaning to say this for a while, once I have progressed the story beyond the second Gym and into the realm where it actually starts to come into focus, I'll be asking for Beta Testers. Its a a week or two away, but I'm just letting everyone know that I'll opening up spots soon.

Anyway, posting in this thread keeps it alive and stops me from having to bump it, so keep 'em post people. Wether its a comment, encouragement, or a brutal shake to reality, to think it! Post it!

To Other Posters: Please don't ask if you can be Beta Tester right now - I need to actually get my work to a point where it can be tested acurately.

Besides, I'd appriciate it if people could keep the conversation directed towards the hack and how to improve/ decent suggestions that have some meat to them.

Well, I've moved up to Progressing Hacks, gotten 1000 views and the First Post has been updated with three awesome banners made by Weight of the World. Life is good.

I've almost finished mapping to a level where I'd be happy to release a Beta, but scripting is still a bit of a way off, despite essentially doing nothing but script for the past two days. I'm also confirming that there will be two recurring rivals, one is the stock-standard Gary type, the other... Well... She's a bit more convoluted... Also, the second Gym is going to be a challenge and is going to be of an [undisclosed] type :P

I'm sorry to say, but no screenshots this update D:

I'll keep on trudging towards that lofty Beta/Alpha (Terminolgy?), but my final year of school is starting in about four days, so the mammoth amount of time I have been able to put into this recently will be cut pretty severly, but not totally. Also, comments, anyone?

Don't change its size.
If you change the size back to normal, you will still be able to have Marts.

Not really the place to be asking, mate. Just change the Pokemon that you battle with the 'wildbattle' command in XSE. And try here (http://www.pokecommunity.com/showthread.php?t=79614) next time.

As I keep saying, school has really done a number on the amount of time that I can spend working on this, but yesterday I somehow got enough to transfer to a new ROM. I just couldn't get those darn Marts to work, but they appear to be fixed with the transfer. With that roadblock out of the way, work will actually be able to move on, rather than be static like its been for the last week or so.

This thread has rotted enough - Time to get postin' again
Fweeee :D

Like I said in my last post, my final year at school has taken a huge chunk out of the time I had avaliable to work on Shimmering Tempest. I'm beginning to find a nice balance between this and studying, so I'm actually beginning to advance somewhat now - But I'm further away from a beta than ever D:

When do you think this hack is completed, DrFuji?

I have an idea for a release date in mind, but I don't want to make it official, because possibly unrealistic deadlines can be bad for the psyche. Unfortunately, my psuedo-target time is over a month away D:

aeWESOME CANT WAIT FOR BETA IF YOU CAN ADD NEW MUSIC THAT WOULD MAKE THE GAME MUCH BETTER

CAPS LOCK fail much? XD

I have absolutely no idea how to make or insert PokeMusic, and I have absolutely no intention of doing so. I'm sorry but you're going to have get used to the tried and true ditties of FR.

Well, there is a shadier ulterior motive that has led me to revive this thread than to randomly comment on my personal life and answer posts that I was to exhausted to reply to. While I'm not the most artistically gifted person in the world, I have dabble in some cosmetic stuff for the game. I've completed the worldmap, along with aspects of the title screen and boot-up screen, but I cannot not insert them for the life of me (Yes, I have read just about every tutorial I can get my hands on and still nothing) >.>

I got the boot-up screen working perfectly on a blank ROM last night, but cannot seem to replicate it at all in the harsh light of day. So basically, I'm establishing a one off job for somebody here in the ROM Hacking Community. Help me insert the three aformentioned things into a patch or blank ROM (I'm transferring to a new ROM anyway because my Pokemarts are beyond screwed) and you shall be forever immortalised in Shimmering Tempest as a cameo and have your name inscribed in the First Post.

For those of you who can insert stuff like this and want to see a decent beta get out where the town map actually correlates to something, please contact me via PM or in this thread. I'm begging you D:

Anyone brave enough to volunteer?

EDIT: If technically impossible or something, then...

EDIT: Scratch the boot-up screen part. I finally got it working again :D

Holy God, this 'update' is long :x

EDIT: Shizenhoward. I just got the title screen Pokemon up and running. what is this i don't even. Why are things starting to work now? D:

By the way, I will like to support this hack, but how do you do that.

Over the weekend I've been trialing different title screens and honning in on a style that will suit Shimmering Tempest. Still no luck on the Town Map front though; it seems to be the one thing that I just can't get working at all. I also improved the Boot-Screen, but don't feel like showing it right now :P

You can go to your User CP and edit your signature with a banner made by WotW Cloud 9 or my own User Bar, both of which can be found on the first page. Link it to the first page of this thread, and you're done - Or you could just write "I support Shimmering Tempest" or something like that instead :P

Already done, and prepare for another one :P. Once again, thank you for the free great banners XD

Being exactly a month since I last posted here, I think its time for an update now, so I might as well get started :D

I've redesigned the first route that I ever implemented into Shimmering Tempest, though it is currently nameless much like its always been. Anyone who has read the first post or a random update somewhere along the way would have seen a screenshot of me talking to a hiker about burgers. Have a look at the comparison:

Yes, I do feel daring enough to claim that this will take me into 2010 :P

I'd rather not show the actual titlescreen because it sucks :x

After countless updates during which I sounded like a broken record, I can truthfully state that I have completed the move to a clean ROM. I have humbly learnt my lesson about backing up files, so hopefully there won't be any more prolonged instances of non-progression apart from school. Along the way, I realised that a couple of bugs sorted themselves out - Namely, the game doesn't die when you check your Pokemon when in the company of a kid with a gameboy. The Trade Houses shall rise again.

I was going to post up a video detailling gameplay up to when the player recieves their Pokemon, but LagTube is being uncooperative (Sorry NiKa!). I'll be trying again tommorrow, but I guess I'll take the time to ask people here if I should include commentary or not. If nobody feels the need to reply, I'll flip a coin and see what happens :3

I have updated the First Post with a call for a temporary job - Inserting the WorldMap into the game because I've tried and failed so many times its not funny anymore. You'd get the full Alpha before I release it to the public, and your name will be put on the First Post if that's any sort of reward :D

Anyway, that's about it. I still have a couple more scripts to reinsert and I'm doing a bit of cleaning up here and there, but everything should begin to run smoothly for once.

Lurk, coment, rage - Its all good.

It looks like beta one is almost ready for release, since the only
place left is Scape Fields.
And route one looks like a completely different route now!

Like I said in my above post, I still have some scripts to reinsert and clean up - Scape Fields is priority number 2 right now. Even when I have completed Scape Fields I still have to put Shimmering Tempest through my secret Beta Tester who can reveal himself if he wants to :P

Only once they've given me the green light will I release the Beta :D

Town Maps are my own little personal hell.
Seriously though, this looks really cool so far, though I'm a little annoyed because now a hack I was considering is going to look kind of like a ripoff... >:(
Seriously though, nice work so far. I like that you've kept the plotline sophisticated without trying to make it extravagant. Let me know if you need help with some filler scripting, it's about all I have time for atm...

About that game-dying bug you were having, I think I had the same issue for awhile. Only my problem was that if you checked your pokedex within view of a certain OW I had set up, you turned into a demonic red Lapras and could only move right to left...
