Fortree City Gym Help

Hey everybody,

I am a new member to the forums, but that is not what this post is about.

I am having some trouble with this ebil Fortree City Gym. :knockedou

Alright, my Manectric can kill that level 31 Swellow in one hit with Thunderbolt.

After the Swellow is fainted Winona (gym leader) sends out Altaria which I am having some trouble with.

My Marshtop has Rock Tomb which is "super effective" but probably only takes away 20% of Altaria's HP. Altaria then uses all those "spiffy moves" and wipes out my ENTIRE line.

What I am asking is, what pokemon should I use to defeat this lil Altaria? The stratagy guide suggests using Rollout but I don't have that type of pokemon. I looked up a Geodude and he learns Rollout at level 26. Should I raise up a Geodude then refight the gym leader?

TOTALLY DIFFERENT QUESTION: Also I looked ahead in the guide and it seems that you'll need a dragon type pokemon. Which should I capture for my dragon type pokemon? LOL, the only one I found was Swablu which evolves INTO a Altaria!! :knockedou

So, with that all said, what should I do? :disappoin

I am on Pokemon Sapphire version by the way. ;)

Word of advice - Altaria shall be able to Dragon Dance Earthquake your Geodude/Graveler/whatever before it gets a chance to Rollout effectively. If you want a quick easy win, level Pokemon up and teach your Marshtomp Ice Beam. It's 4x effective, and even if it doesn't kill it on the first try, it shall make it faint on the second.

Thanks for the advice. One other question.

Where can I get Ice Beam? It has to be a TM/HM move. It's not something that is learned on a level up. Where can I get the Ice Beam TM then? :) Thanks again!! :D

Yeah - you have to buy it from Mauville Game Corner for 4000 coins. You could have bred Ice Beam onto your Marshtomp, but you would need an Ice Pokemon (which you can't get yet) and it would just take too long. Stick with buying it. It's costly, but it'll be worth it to see Altaria fall off its perch.

Ouch! 4000 coins? It costs 10,000 money for just 500 coins?! Ahhh!! Where in the world can I get that amount of money?

Wait, I can play the games and earn more coins, right? Eep...

WAITTWAITTWAITT... I am trying to play some games but this is nearly impossible to get 4000 coins!!! HOW IN THE WORLD!

Any tips on which games to play and just... how to play them and increase your chance of winning? :)

Before you go buy Icebeam,waait to get it later.get Blizzard.
1.it cost less.
2.its stronger,even if it doesn't have as good of accuracy as Icebeam.

you can buy it at the Lilycove Dept. Store for p5500

Ok... umm, so it's actually more powerful than Ice Beam but has a lower accuracy? By how much accuracy though?

Blizzard = 70% accuracy
Ice Beam = 100% accuracy

You can go straight to Lilycove and miss out Winona if you want, since you don't actually need the HM Fly to travel around. It'll be a long trek though, so good luck. ^_^

But you will obviously still need to beat Winona and collect all 8 badges to get to the league. Of course, until then, Winona isn't compulsory to beat so all you need to do is train after Fortree for a while. In Emerald though, I cleared it when a Move Tutor was kind enough to use Rollout... ^_~

Ok seriously here are the weaknesses and strengths to start you off, still have trouble, PM me

Swellow use Electric Rock Ice
Skarmory use Fire Electric
Pelipper use Electric (4x dmg!)
Altaria use Dragon Ice (4x dmg!)

Yay, so I guess it's off to Lilycove. I will most likely come back to Lilycove to beat Wiona. ^_^

Yeah my Manectric will pretty much take care of all the pokemon in Winona's lineup 'cept Altaria. :D

I made it to Lilycove and beat my Rival at the Lilycove Dept. Store :) YAY!

...I just bought blizzard!!!
