Hey, guys! I wanted to try RPG MAKER 2003, so I'm making a Gold remake. I've mapped up to Azalea Town, and a demo should be out by the end of the month. After that, I'd like some people to help me out.

Well, that would depend on how good it is ;)
Keep in mind help ususally comes in the form of good advice and coding help, not people doing work for you. Just to let you know. A lot of people want others to do their own work. But seeing as you're actually doing something, you probably won't be the same way :D
Anyway, good luck. I'd be curious to know how this would stack up to LunarSilver, another Gold/Silver remake here.

Well Yamichi said it wasn't dead, he just didn't have alot of time to work on it, so the progress wouldn't go too fast

Ok. So far, I've mapped up to Azalea, with a few battles here and there. I've got Violet Gym settled, with the trainers and Falkner. I also made the events involving Team Rocket in Azalea at Slowpoke Well. That's it for today's update. More on the way.

75mb for a demo!?! If you do find a host nobody will download it. As Cigarettes said, get rid of any music files that aren't midi's as they are taking up the space and make sure you haven't packaged the RTP as well. You should be able to get the size down to a max 3mb.

The demo was good, but i had to go and change it every 10 seconds , because of the parallax bagrounds, and it seems you've got some switches/var mixed up.
but, since you rushed a bit, I can say itwas a good demo!

You deffinitly need to cut down the size of this DL. I won't even consider trying it, since I have a 56k modem. It might be great, but, for a Demo, I won't DL over 8 mb. If it was the final, I would probably download the game at 18 mb, but, deffinitly not a demo at 18 mb.

Sorry for not posting for a while. Anyway, I've been moving some files from the game's folders to make the size smaller. I've also started making Ilex Forest and Goldenrod. Maybe I'll have another release soon. And that first demo might not have been a demo at all. Keep looking at this thread for updates.

Is that Krazy's battle system or your own? I've got a few comments to make:
-The sprites in the intro should be in the centre of the little platform thingy
-The font looks a little odd on the message skin that your using
-The colors on the map look a little odd, mainly the bright green around the path.
The screens on a whole look good, they just need a little tweaking.

i agree with phoenix316, the screens look nice- just tweak them a bit. Center your Prof. Oak/ the hero on that platform.
And the door of the poke-mart looks weird (i'm guessing your using a door character set).
The battle system has looks good. Is it your own work? and any more screens on ur battle system?

The background colours in the CBS are a little dark. Yeah, it's just a minor adjustment that could be made.

The Prof Oak sprite is ripped from Pokemon FR/LG. The hiro sprite could be from anywhere and the battle isn't exactly the same. The similarities are there but it isn't enough to conclude that they have been stolen.

If u use Krazy Battle System u must give him/her credits.
And change hero to R/S or G/S .

I just played the demo. It was fun to play and you replicated most things very well, however the two things that hurt it was a lack of a CMS and the use of the DBS. Putting the DBS battles in were kinda unnecessary because they are no fun to play. But as I said on a whole it was good and the day/night system was nicely done. There were a few tileset errors and un-natural teleport placements I think you should change as well.

The demo was, indeed, very fun to play. What really killed it for me was the size of your maps. Just make them a wee bit smaller. Otherwise, it was very good! :)

Time for my in-depth evaluations!!
1. in the intro; after the pic of the hero (the sprite) has faded and the charset comes out, the pic comes out again. (don't know if this was done purposely)
2. I felt that the kitchen in your room was a bit small, and the path to it, was a bit narrow compared to the entire room.
3. the woman in the newbark, her charset's moving constantly. (not moving as in steps, but she's moving, like her arms are moving.)
4. the tree tops are cut off.
5. the mail box's cut off
6. you teleport out of the houses once you're stepping on the black tiles. I think you should set a touch hero event.
7. I can't move in the tiles right above the table. (bottom left house)
8. your rival turns toward you at first when you first talk to him.
9. after you pick your pokemon, the pokeball doesn't disappear.
10. maybe you could add some lighting in the buildings.
11. I think the colour of the grass animation's a bit bright at night. Maybe you could have 2 grass animations for light and dark.
12. the trainer charaset in route 1 is continuously moving as well.
13. I can't exit the gatekeeping house using the top door.
14. when I try to get back to route 1 through the gatekeeping house, I get transported to another city.
15. the hero's moving too fast to the old guy who tours you in cherrygrove.
16. the old man takes me to a patch of grass which isn't even next to the sea.
17. after the old man disappears, I can't move.
note: 16 & 17 only happen if you press the action key while the man's walking. e.g pressing the action key right after the message's ended.
18. the phone kind of thing in the old man's house is cut off. (cherrygrove)
19. I CAN WALK THROUGH BLACK TILES!!!!!!!!!!
20. I think that there are too many flowers
21. the TV top's cut off in the house with the 2 kids speaking.
22. I think that you should add some door opening graphics for the PC and Mart.
I'll continue as I play more!!!!!!!

It looks really good... except on my computer the down and left keys don't work in the boxes where you select time and name and stuff.
Also, when the character starts in his room no matter what direction I push it goes to the bottom-left corner of the room by itself and gets stuck there.

Sorry for not posting for a while. Anyway, I've started mapping the rest of Union Cave and Ilex Forest is completed. For the next demo, I plan to make up to Olivine City, so be prepared to wait a while. By then, the running system, the Game Corner games, and mostly everything else in between will be done. And of course, I have to get the Battle System to work for trainers who have more than 1 pokemon. And Daegon, thanks for those evaluations. I'm working on those now. If there's anything else wrong, post here and let me know. And you might wanna try posting a screen of the error so I can tell where it happens :).

screens look good (except for the whole color mess up ). Pitty I had to copy and paste the addresses into my browser to view them. (maybe you should re link them)
Oh, and in the last screen- the mart looks a bit funny.

Yeah. I just fixed the images. And again, something happened in MS Paint that messed up the colors.

The theme used in Ilex Forest I should have soon, but I don't have a midi cuz there's still no ripper for GSC music. If anyone sees one, PM me.

Hey GymLeaderLance99 love to see my new chip in use but you need to make the top part of the counter over the hero (set as a star as you might know).
Now your Ilex forest just needs a tiny touch-up... the gate house is too short from front to back... just extend it 2 or more tiles upward (I mean the roof just add two tiles, be sure to use the tiles that make up the end of the roof). Just one more thing you are missing the bottom bit of the entrance to the gatehouse. The rest looks fine!

This game is looking pretty good, but I do have a few suggestions to make that could make your game even better!
1. Change the Department store in Goldenrod. It just doesn't look like a department store...
2. In the Game Corner, change the back tiles of the counter to the star.
3. No one will have Radio Tower Chipsets. You'll have to either rip them from G/S/C and use that, or just make your own.
I hope that helps. BTW keep those screenshots coming! Keep up the good work, too.

Sorry for the double-post, but I just wanted to say that I added a Casino Coin-Toss Mini-Game to the Game Corner. Now, does anyone have a rip of the slot machines? And don't be surprised if the game's progress is slow, because I can't get a Radio Tower Inside chipset, and I need an Underground Path chipset resembling that of G/S/C.

Here's a tip, if you can't find a chipset then rip one yourself. Learning to rip is a useful thing to do, that way you wont have to rely on other people for you to be able to continue working on your game.

The only catch is that I'll need an Ecruteak-suited chipset for the Burned Tower and the special houses found there. I'll make it using a regular chipset for now, but I'd like it for the next demo if possible.

Oh yeah and don't use 35MB. It's one big spyware scam. They give you more space for each download because the thing they say you need is a program that downloads more spyware to your computer while surfing the net and has the ability to redirect you internet. My PC is almost unfixable form that now. Basically each download helps them spread their spyware so that's why they give you more space.

I've finished all maps & events for Ecruteak, except for the Tin Tower, but I'll get to that later. Now, I'm just adding the battles and editing the text on some of the earlier routes. And, since I don't have any more school, I should be able to finish this demo soon. Thank you, Regents Week! :D Oh, and do you remember the Time Capsule? Well, I'm making it so you can travel back in time, but only in Kanto. Of course, when the time comes, you'll experience it yourselves... Expect a demo within the next 2 weeks. @DennisRayquaza: I don't have a Burned Tower chipset, so I made it using a Gatehouse chipset.
I still have a few battles to code, but other than that, I'm almost done. BTW, funnybunny, could I use the Party, Experience, Battle, and Storage codings from your Champion demo? I'll give you credit for them.

I know. Once my system is complete it should be good to go. It is the same as GSCs battle system anyhoo. That is what it is based on. Any more would use to many variables and the coding would be too hard to do.

I have some new screens to show. Screens 1 and 2 are of the new Pokemon Center. I decided to build it like FRLG because they had the counter like GSC did, and it was remade in the center, so I did it like that. Screen 3 is of the outer Goldenrod PC. I made it a few tiles smaller to match the FRLG outer PC. Screen 4 is a random shot of Ecruteak City, near the PC.

1) Should I use the DBS battles for the demo? Well, at least for the areas after Azalea.
2) Should I change the game to RM2K? I figured that would make it easier to change the font.
I'll keep the questions open until tomorrow @7pm. Also, I need to know this now because if my mom succeeds in removing my internet service by the end of the week, you'll all have to wait till September-Mid October for a demo, and by then it'll be up to Cianwood, if not further.

And I have come to a verdict. For the purpose of simplicity, I won't use the DBS for anything after Azalea, because I want to get the maps done. Plus, when I do, I can try to code the group CBS, or get Sceptile's help for it. Although I was planning to use the RSEFRLG system, even though I'm using the GSC set of TMs, but there are Move Tutors for RBY (In Old Kanto), and RS moves(In Present Kanto and Sevii Islands). Oh, did I forget to mention I was going to include the Sevii Islands in this game? I'm making the first 3 available after beating Pryce in Mahogany. Of course, this will be a while away. Stay tuned...

Yeah, the problem with rm2k3 is that you are limited to putting around 100 pokemon max in your game. Using lot's of TMs is also very hard to do. Because remember we are only using rm2k3 here, not sphere.
Also on the subject of fonts. Just install the MS gothic font or go on the system selcetion on the database and choose MS mincho font. That will sort any font problems.

If your coding the system properly then you are limited to putting about 150 pokemon in your CBS. And installing the font in rm2k3 isn't any different from rm2k.

Ack it's just that rm2k3 has a lack of variables and because of a lack of a coding language you cannot make your own databases. I suppose you could do it at a push but it would take months to put the system in. I'm in the process of writing a tut on a pokemon battle system anyways. just hold tight, I'll see what I can do.

You can have more than 150 pokemon, but the more pokemon, the more variables and switches. In RMXP, I believe they expanded the limit of variables and switches...

But he's using rm2k3 not XP. Although you have RGSS in XP which makes battle systems alot easier. Event coded battle systems aren't the best but not everyone is using something like Sphere. It depends how accurate you want it in comparisson to the real system. Which is probably impossible with events.

Nope your wrong. Theres 5000 variables in Rm2k3, you could well do the 386 pokemon! And with events you can pretty much copy a pokemon battle system.

Well, I've got an update. I decided to make a new map for Goldenrod, using the chipset suited for it. The only problem is that I can't attach any screens because my mom shut down our internet service, so I'm posting this in the library near where I live. I should be able to post new screens in a little while. Also, I'm not going to be online for a while, and since I'm being forced to go to DR (Dominican Republic) for about a month, I won't be on during that time, so don't expect many updates. Well, I've got a somewhat update. I've decided to make all the maps similar to GSC using GoldMap. So far, I've revamped New Bark Town, Rte 29, Cherrygrove City, Rte 30, and Violet City. Plus, I'm using a FR chipset for Violet, instead of the Rustboro one you all saw in the demo. I'll try to post some screens tomorrow.

1.In the lab screen, I don't think there should be a tint in there.
2.It doesn't look very natural with people floating over flowers (maybe make it obscure)
3. In the cave pics, there's grass shower on the corners of the water tiles.

Thanks for the comments, guys. The Lab screen had the tint because of the day/night coding. If anyone can post how I can make it turn off while inside, I'd appreciate it. No new screens, today, but I am working on remaking Ilex Forest and Route 34, and get to work on the rest of Goldenrod and move on to the next step. BTW, from now on, all the maps will resemble GSC in essence.

That's right. I've finally returned from DR! :D Anyway, I've already resumed working on this game. I left off on Ecruteak, and I've since completed the Burned Tower and the PC and Mart. I have more work to do, and I'll post screens tomorrow.
@Shadow909: I have that already. I was asking for a charset of Sudowoodo so I can put him on Rte 36. As for your other resources, I don't get the blue pic, and I'm using RM2K3, not RMXP. Thanks for the help, though.

Screen 1 is of Route 37. Screen 2 is a random shot of Ecruteak, and Screen 3 is a scene where the player just arrived into Ecruteak. This screen also shows the new display picture for city and route names.
Screen 4 is of the Ecruteak PC, where the player is chatting with Bill, about the Time Capsule. I already told you that you'd be able to go to the past, right? Also, this screen shows off the new NPC message box for this game. Screens 5 and 6 show off the new sign message box, as well as show Ecruteak's slogan. Comments welcome, especially about the message boxes.

Well, I've mapped the Dance Theater, except for the events. And I've started to code the CBS for the Rival battle in Cherrygrove. If I can get that to work, it might be implemented everywhere. But, however, my knowledge is limited, and I'd only be able to code it for 1 opposing Pokémon, and not having more.
Which reminds me, Sceptile_Master, can you code a PokéGear? Also, I have more positions in mind for this game. For starters, I'd need a few graphic artists who can revamp the trainers from G/S/C, as well as the Pokémon sprites from G/S. I was thinking of having the old sprites for the first 251 Pokés, similar to what FRLG did with the first 151.

Well, I've already mapped Route 38, and I also did the labels for each cave, route, and town in Johto. I'll soon start mapping Route 39, and Olivine. BTW, does anyone have, along with that Sudowoodo charset I still need, a Miltank charset? I'll need it for that Moomoo Farm. I'll try to get screens of Rte 38 tomorrow.
On a different story, I've started to make a Battle Frontier chipset. Maybe I'll be able to post that here, too. I've already put in the Pike, and I'm working on the Palace. But it looks like this: if you'll want to make the Frontier, you'll need to use different chipsets combined.

The screens are looking great, mate! How about shading the outline of the messagebox a bit darker though to seperate them from the BG?

Well, I've finished mapping Olivine City, and as for the Lighthouse, I tried to revamp the GSC one. I'll post a screen of it tomorrow. I've also done the PC, and Mart.
@pkmn-master: I'd give you another demo that's "supported" but I don't have internet access on my home computer, so I can't yet. Maybe in the first week of September...
@Webmaster Tyler: What do you mean? Be more specific, please.
And, as for the demo questions, the next demo might be released by the end of September, because if you recall, I did say it would be up to Cianwood City.
1 more thing: Again, I need that Miltank charset badly! I had to resort to using the RTP cow charset in the meantime. Also, that Sudowoodo one is still needed.

@Pkmn-master: Don't worry about it. In about 5-6 days, I'll either give you the old demo, or release the next demo, since I'll be getting home internet service again. So just hold tight for a while.
@Mattgcn: Thanks for that. I'll download them in 5-6 days, for reasons stated above.
@Mudkip Girl: Thanks for your comments, and like I said for Dude, the rpgi site is down, so that's why that demo is down. The next demo should be in a few days to a week or 2.

Screen 1 is of the bottom part of Route 39. Screen 2 is the top part of Olivine City. Screen 3 is at the Gym, when the hero's talking to the Rival. Screen 4 is near the PC. Screen 5 is a screen of the Lighthouse, featuring the one I tried to remake from GSC. And lastly, Screen 6 is in the Olivine Cafe, when that Sailor gives the hero HM04. Comments welcome!

Well, I've mapped all of Olivine, except for the last floor of the Lighthouse. After this, I'll start mapping Route 40, but I'm wondering if I should put the Battle Tower there, or leave it for the Battle Frontier I was planning to put into the game... I guess that's something you guys should vote for. Of course, I would need Frontier chipsets.
That reminds me, I could use a chipset maker. Someone that can make chipsets, such as the Battle Frontier, but if I do decide to put the Frontier in, it might take more than 2 chipsets to do. BTW, you guys can vote until Tuesday. Dawson or Daegon, can one of you make a poll for this, or reopen the one I had earlier?

Wonderful new screens, except for that lighthouse. Blech. Try to make a larger version of the one in Slateport or Lilycove, or, make a custom cylindrical grimy building.
Oh, and all the music is up now on PT's server, except for a few small items.

Sorry for not posting in a while. I have mapped up to Route 41, and plan to start mapping Cianwood City tomorrow. BTW, don't expect me to update much since school just started, and I may or may not be able to use my computer on weekdays. No new screens at the moment.
@mattgcn:Those things in Slateport and Lilycove aren't lighthouses, BTW. I've been trying to cut and paste the one in Fangking's Johto tileset. I'll see if I can make it better. That Lighthouse was an attempt at a revamp, BTW.
@freakboy:I'll try to post them tomorrow, if possible.

Sorry for not posting for a while. I have been working on this game, and I have programmed using SURF, CUT, STRENGTH, and ROCK SMASH (though it may need work...) in the game. The problem with SURF is that
1) I don't have a Marina charset with SURFing sprites, so if anyone could provide this, I'd appreciate it, and
2)For all the HMs, I don't have the Pokemon using it being shown.
Anyway, to ^, hang on, because I'm almost done with the latest demo. I'll try to post screens later.

Sorry I haven't posted in a while. Well, I have good news and bad news.
Good- I've almost finished the demo. It'll be posted soon.
Bad- Of course, that was like 2 weeks ago. My computer got screwed up, and I'm
waiting on a piece to fix it, but don't expect a demo soon. And I may have to
restore my computer, and erase everything, but I was smart enough to email
myself a copy of the demo-in-progress, as well as the resources, so don't worry
about me starting from Olivine again or something.
Anyway, I'll talk to you guys soon (hopefully...)

I have good news for everyone! My computer has finally been fixed! And, luckily, no files were lost in the process so GG is still on! With that said, expect a demo around New Years. So for those guys who wanted the demo, would you mind waitin' till then? And after this release, the demo shall go up to the Indigo Plateau. Well, I'm off to work on the game. Well, guys, I have more good news! I decided to release the demo a bit earlier than expected. This demo goes up to Cianwood, there's still no CBS or CMS, but that'll change come the next demo, and I've added a Flying system for when you get HM02. Enjoy, and post your comments and suggestions here.

hey....the demo was pretty good i liked your mapping ans stuff..... its a really great game but why does it start out in cinawood? and liek you odnt have strength or noting so you cant leave cinawood?......but neway awsoem game cant wait to see more.
