View Full Version : Fourth generation was based too much on PvP and became too untraditional.

To name my most-loathed example from the movesets: a PHYSICAL psychic (Zen Headbutt) attack and a SPECIAL fighting attack (Focus Blast).

Is it just me or has Abra really been working out? They're supposed to be PSYCHICS. MENTAL COMBAT! DX I would be happier if Zen Headbutt was fighting and Focus Blast was psychic. It needs a trump move.

AND WTF WAS WITH ALL THE ELEMENTAL DOUBLE-EDGES??

Volt Tackle, Flare Blitz, Wood Hammer... It's way too overpowered, ESPECIALLY in PvP. "Attack, does 1 hit K.O. and does -13 damage to yourself."

I hate watching online battles because they're nothing but switching and one-hit K.O.'s.

And they evolved almost every single Pokemon. Magmortar has cannons for arms. You mind telling me how it grabs things? Does it suck protein shakes through its arms or does it just fall face-first and hope for the best?

Now I'm all for the advancing of Pokemon giving them all new stuff but come on.

Pokemon Red & Blue was the Old Testament of the Pokemon games and it was wonderful and written by the PokeGods.

GSC was PERFECT. I swear I would pick Crystal over any other game.

RSE... wasn't bad, but once I saw Groudon and Kyogre I just thought "Wow, that doesn't even look like a Pokemon..."

4th gen. WHen I saw Dialga I was disappointed thoroughly. It looks way over-detailed. Compare that to Pikachu and people will think it's from a different game completely. This was the part of the Pokefranchise that really lost it for me. I didn't even buy Platinum. And probably won't ever.

It became too PvP-based and made PvE suck ass. They didn't even come out with any new Fire-Pokemon that you could get in the beginning except Chimchar and 2/3 times I don't want to have to build my team around the same Pokemon every time because I can't get someone who fills the type. (I like have every Pokemon in my team belong to the generation of the game I'm playing, so I suppose that could be a fault of my own.)

Pokemon... where have the makers gone? What happened to when the music used to stop so the sounds of your moves and Pokemon's cries could be heard? I **** my pants when I heard Bubblebeam for the first time because it utterly stopped the music and obliterated my Charmeleon. Now it just sounds like a bunch of real bubbles. It's too realistic and too bullshitty in all the wrong places.

[/rant]

Oh, and I didn't put this in the 4th gen. section because this is a rant about it, and I don't think rants go in any particular sub-forum.

And I also hate all the Overheats. The -2 stages of Special Attack can easily be off-set by switching out then back in, thus giving a perfect 100%/140/5 move with no set-backs.

Bull****ty should be censored...

If this is real, What's your point? Do you expect us to fix it? Either get over it or avoid the moves and whatever else you dislike.

If this is a fake rant, try harder to be funny. It's... not working.

If you're trolling, it's... just more 4gen griping to me. Try somewhere else, or with different trolling material. ;)

He does make a valid point (not one that i agree with myself, but anyways...). Pokemon has changed from when we were kids, and is not altogether the same thing. I believe these changes have, mostly, done nothing more than to improve on a very (very) strong base, and we should just learn to accept these changes. I mean, theyre not forcing us to play the 4th gen, are they?

It would really suck to not have Zen Headbutt be physical and psychic when your opponent is weak against psychic but has really good special defense. The end.

i like how he phrases it to be like he "has" to play the new games.

anywho, i rather like the OHKOs. makes it for an easier win. and not every type has a double edge kind of attack...steel types for instance, strongest physical attack is meteor mash at 80/85 base power. the whole generations...all 4 of them, are now really fast offensively based battling. if you can't keep up...tough.

we all know the 1st gen was the best and yadda yadda. we don't need to be told or reminded. just saying. :T

I was just venting. D: It's not like I hate the new games. Just not as happy with 'em.

Sheesh.

XD Yeah Magmortar and Tangrowth really disappointed me. They're both fairly stupid looking. Electivire was alright though.

Same here, it used to sound all cool. It's still a reflex reaction whenever I see Bubblebeam pop up to like expect the awesome sound, and then I just here the sound a spa makes when the bubbles are turned on. Woah, don't want to be hit by that beam, I might get.. wet. =|

Eyh, don't forget about Iron Tail, it's been there from gen II already D: 100 BP w/ 75% chance to hit. (Actually, I think MM is 100 BP too, just saying :P)

@Daverses: I can sort of understand you, but I don't agree at all. The games are developing, and it's our choice if we want to adapt or not, be it playing versus other players, or just staying in-game and being satisfied beating the E4 with a lvl 100 flailbouncekarp. I for one, think that the physical/special split was one of the best things to happen to pokemon, and I'd rather not reverse changes like that.
And if you don't want to play with only Ponyta/Chimchar in the beginning as a fire type, go pick up Platinum like you said you have yet to do, that'll give you more firepower. (Btw, Overheat has a 90% chance to hit, and since it pretty much requires you to switch out and back in in order to actually use it, your opponent could use stuff like Stealth Rock in order to punish you for that, or simply attack you on the switch, damaging more of your pokemon. It's not like this generation brought one fantastic flawless strategy, after all.)

eh, i was too lazy to actually look it up. but yes, iron tail at base 100, with 70% to hit...ah, meteor is at 100, i just put the accuracy in place. whoops

and quoted for truth. :D

While I agree somewhat with the idea that Gen IV was too catered towards the competitive gamers, I completely disagree with almsot everything else. The physical/special split was the best thing to happen to Pokemon since GSC. Now you can use any Pokemon you like, and it will be useful in-game with the right moveset. And while some new evolutions sucked royally, some were pure awesome. If you disagree, my Yanmega will Bug Buzz yo' ass!

Yes, there are many problems with new pokes. So what???use older ones, and always make sure you kill the new ones as slowly as possible!!(i.e. burn, toxic's too fast, etc.)

But yes, 1st Gen is better (sez the guy who only played the remakes). Hell, u know why you're upset??? Coz pokemon's so successful, nintendo have had to keep upgrading it.

I think the new games offer alot more of a challenge and there is more strategy involved. Back in the "good-ol' days" Everyone loved mewtwo, charizard, blastoise, and the Birds. Now that there is a physical/ special split those pokemon arent so uber powerful. I will agree, however, a couple of the new Evolutions sucked. I think I could have hand-drawn a better Tangrowth. But Sneasels new evolution is the bad-ass-ist pokemon in the game. Weavile FTW
