View Full Version : Suggestion: Pokemon TCG Q&A Thread

I'm thinking we should have a Q&A sticky for Pokemon TCG because there are a lot of questions going on about Cards, Decks, Boosters etc. This way, we won't have much single threads in the area. Also, Stickies stand out more than threads and you are probably most likely going to get an answer in the sticky. I mean, if you have a nooby thread title, people sometimes won't bother clicking on the hyperlink to your thread? What do you guys (and girls) think?

Favourite Card Thread
Well, I think this should be created purely because too many people are making favourite card threads and it really can annoy people. they also don't bother looking at theb rules knowing they should post in the DCC.

The problem (with both of your suggestions) is that the TCG forum lacks a moderator. The stickied threads are back from when Gokey Shuckle and myself moderated the forum years ago. No new moderator has been placed as it isn't an active forum and the staff apparently haven't seen reason that it needs it.

The moderation of that forum thus relies on people using the report function to call Super Moderators and higher there to take care of any problems that arise.

If you want a new stickied thread, try to talk with a Super Moderator or someone to see if you can get them to quickly make a new one or if you can make one and them sticky it (don't make it before you discuss things).

I dunno... doesn't the TCG forum need all the activity it can get? I kind of fear that if we consolidated all the questions into one thread, the forum itself would get too few posts to bother with. :/

Not really, because I have noticed more attention attracted towards the stickies than to the other threads. Well, more posts are coming in more frequently and members that don't normally post in non-stickies, actually post in stickies. But as stated above you, Erica, we may need a Mod for activity to increase again. Because since Gokey Shuckle left, that Forum is keeping quite deserted and isn't getting very much attention as I expected it to.

Yes and no.

A bunch of useless threads prevents any worthwhile discussion from coming up as things are constantly bumped to subsequent pages.

The entire forum needs to be washed off. The stickies need to be taken down and replaced with new threads (I mean seriously, my own sticky is still there). This will encourage people to get involved again as the stickies are no longer several year old bundles of pages that no one wants to bother to read through. It will also leave room for discussion in the rest of the board.

The two subforums also badly need a moderator to update the stickied posts as information in those regards are constantly updated (rule changes for deck building forum; new sets and styles in fake cards).

Edit: Oh dear, it's seriously been 5 years since I was the mod there. o_O Time flies...

Well, yes, a new Mod would mean that he/she could replace those elderly stickies and create new ones. So really, I think that the Staff team should get that area back on track, ready for more activity.

The problem with the TCG forum is... it's not nearly active enough to merit its own mod (and I don't think appointing someone in there, even with the directive "make this forum active" would help). Since it doesn't have its own mod, the higher staff look after it but I'm pretty sure none of us specialize in the TCG at all. :/

I'll try to take the time to replace stickies either later today or later in the week unless someone beats me to it or I forget. (And if it's the latter, do remind me. xD) Since you guys know the forum better than I (or... most hstaff, I bet), a few questions:

- Is the DCC really needed in the TCG forum? Is there anything in there that can't go into its own thread? I know when I redid the rules a few months ago, I said simple topics (à la "what's your favourite card?") could go there but now I'm thinking they might just be better off in the main forum where they're more easily seen to foster discussion.

- Any stickies that need to go in the Deck Review forum? I see a really old one in there. I assume it needs to be updated. Where would I find the info to update that? (Unless one of you want to do it and link me to the new thread to sticky.)

...okay apparently it was only two questions. :( Seriously, if you guys think of anything that could improve the section suggest it. I'd even be open to tossing a sticky in there along the lines of "hey guys, how can we improve TCG?" and just having everyone who frequents the forum throw in their two cents.

Were not gonna get far with that area if things are gonna fall apart. A new Moderator would replace the stickies, possibly attract new members, keep it up-to-date and it wouldn't fall apart.

We would have to hire a new mod just for that forum. I am very, VERY hesitant to do that because I know how crappy it is to be stuck modding a near-dead forum... especially if it turns out that nothing that mod is doing seems to work toward gaining activity.

Besides, a mod isn't necessarily required for any of that. While we do often try to make sure important threads are posted by a mod, it's not a definite requirement. In a forum where there really isn't a moderator to represent it, it's a-okay for members to take charge and organize events or other things to boost activity on their own.

In my opinion, the DCC is not needed for the TCG forum. It does limit the amount of other discussions that can pop up.

The stickies needed, in my humble opinion, are:

A card worth thread for people to ask the monetary value of their collection (with reminders for no selling/buying/trading to take place on PC).
A collection thread for people to discuss additions to their collections (booster packs) and their most valued cards. The reason I started the current sticky thread as people were starting threads daily to list the holographic card they got from a single booster pack, which got kind of spammy and pushed real discussions out of sight.
A favorite card thread for people to list their all around favorite card. Other topics can still come up (favorite Grass card, favorite card in a set), but all around favorite gets remade every once in a while, so a sticky for it would work well.

- Any stickies that need to go in the Deck Review forum? I see a really old one in there. I assume it needs to be updated. Where would I find the info to update that? (Unless one of you want to do it and link me to the new thread to sticky.).

The current sticky there needs to include the most up to date modified format listing. The official site seems to be going slow at the moment, but it can be found there and I have another listing, but it's on a forum, so rules prevent me from posting. I could make a thread here if you wish and once the official Pokémon site starts working again for me.

I'd also suggest a simple rule Q&A for the deck building forum to ask about individual card rulings and such.

In a forum where there really isn't a moderator to represent it, it's a-okay for members to take charge and organize events or other things to boost activity on their own.But the member in charge of the activity might forget or not know any of the rules, causing trauma and closure of the event organised by that user.

o_O

So then we deal with the issue? Any huge events would have to be approved anyway.

I'll work on replacing those stickies when I'm done with the assignment I'm working on tonight.

And then hopeful TCG will get bigger because there is only like 20 posts per day.

Well, can I start a new event? Every Month, I will host a Pokemon TCG Fake Card Contest (possibly sticky) and have it on-going. I would set a different Pokemon for every month and announce the results on the same thread and update the thread with the latest news. The winner would be decided by the users votes. Also, users love emblems, so they could be won which would attract more people. Just like the PotW and the IContest.

Can't say for sure about an emblem just yet, but draw up a thread for that and it sounds good to me. :O

edit: Okay, I reposted the stickies in the main forum. I'm still a bit confused on the deck forum so I'm... gonna leave that till I either have the time to figure out what all of that is or something. @_@
