I am having trouble capturing Zapdos in Pokemon Red , I have found it in the power plant and I have saved the game before I confront it. My problem is that I get it's health down to a minimum and then I throw an ultra ball at it and the a message comes up saying that the I missed it, what am I doing wrong , please help me somebody.

Yeah, that happens a lot, just keep throwing lots of Ultra Balls, one will bag the Zapdos eventually.

I am using a level 56 blastoise , do you think i need to catch a pokemon that can put Zapdos to sleep?.

A Pokemon that can give it a stat problem, helps a lot. So catching one the knows a sleeping move well make the capture easier.

yeah, you want status probs like sleep, paralysis, frozen solid if zapdos is at 1HP all others will destroy it(i think)

Sleep/Freeze are the best catching modifiers, while PAR does help a bit, if you have something.

If you got something with Sand-Attack, that can help for catching Pokemon as well. Lower their accuracy enough, and they'll almost never hit you, and while they are wasting their PP you get a lot safer chance to catch Pokemon. Struggle is also affected by accuracy, BTW, so it won't KO itself to death after it runs out of PP easily either. I found this trick to be effective on Pokemon Colosseum (with all the Pokemon that like to KO themselves after using Shadow Rush, I found it to be necessary for some Pokemon).

And if you want, you could also lower it's other stats. I think it helps a bit. First accuracy, but if you lower its attacks, even if it hits you, you won't faint. I found out on Silver when I lowered a Wild Lugia's ATK and accuracy until it couldn't be lowered anymore and I caught it with 1 Pokeball.
