Pokémon CrystalDustanother hack from DoMoreAwesome Games

Story:We've been here before, haven't we?

Once again, you're put back into the shoes of either Gold or Kris, and sent on your way across the Johto region. With the most accurate scripts, text, features, and everything else compared to other remakes, you can nostalgically relive your past GBC memories and experiences in full-on GBA style on your way to becoming a Pokémon master.
Base:What you need to patch this to

Based off of Pokémon Emerald (U)
Features:Why people want to play this and not Liquid Crystal some other remake

Complete recreation of almost everything imaginable; sprites, sound, maps, events, and text all are almost perfect copies of their GBC counterparts, only upgraded
May be based off of Emerald, but most things are taken from FireRed, including sprites, tiles, battle graphics, font, animations, ...
Day/Night system; remade entirely from scratch and now supports light-up windows!
More ASM hacks than I can count; even little things like Mom on the Pokégear have been hacked to make them Crystal-accurate
Scripts are made to the best of my ability; no more exclamation mark without the sound!
No sound glitches; this hack uses the right free space, and uses the built-in FR voicegroups

When flying to the Lake of Rage after defeating the Red Gyarados but before talking to Lance, the animation messes up a bit, making you appear under Lance for a split second.
Credits:Who helped, and with what

Clonex25 and Magnius - GSC music remixes; also, voicegroup and looping documents
Project Platinum (dead remake project) - Some tiles, sprites, and music
Jambo51 - His awesome music hacks
Linkandzelda - Support
blase005 - Graphics galore, including the intro and title screen
MrAPT1 - Music, more music, even more music, and sprites
shiny quagsire - That amazeballs intro he made

If I forgot anything/anyone, please post and I will definitely fix it. But then again, if I missed someone, they're probably in the in-game credits anyways.

I realized I forgot to post that a second after I clicked "Post". The hack goes to the Sudowoodo event, and you can go back to Violet and beyond and do what you didn't (or couldn't) do your first time around.

Emerald is my favourite ROMBase. =)
Well,i must say this hack is great. ^_^
We rarely get good GSC remakes, this one looks splendid!
Keep up the excellent work!
I found a single error: Headbutt trees say: 0 Seconds 0 Minutes when investigating them.
BTW,Shouldn't this go into Progressing Hacks?

I fixed the error; the new version is up now.
And why should it go into Progressing Hacks? It fits all the criteria for the Hacks Showcase!

Sorry man...I don't have some time to try your hack...but hover I like to give my opinion :)

The hack look like really interesting. There are many remake of GSC... especially here, in pokecommunity.
But however, this project is what has attracted more me for the simple fact that I belive that you have worked hardly to do this.
I'm sorry that your script of the ruins doesn't work well :(
I would like to know how you have done it in emerald...

well man...good luck with your project!!
I hope to see soon some news! ;)

Thanks for the comment!
For the Ruins of Alph puzzle, I ported Mastermind_X's version over to Emerald and changed the offsets of LASTRESULT. The puzzle works fine except for the colors, for some reason.

I think you got the name wrong for the the region. You named it "TOHJO".
And when you look at the clock agian after you set it the tutorial music turns on again.

Awesome. Hope you like it!
I think you got the name wrong for the the region. You named it "TOHJO".
Well, the world map encompasses both Kanto and Johto, and the border between them is called "Tohjo Falls". Since the entire landmass has no one name, I called it Tohjo, the name also being a mix between the two.

Darn. Well, I guess that just comes from porting it over...
I'll get it fixed as soon as I can. Don't worry, just refrain from pressing Start after the puzzle.
And as for your other glitch, that's been fixed. If you really want to see that it's been done, download the new patch.

Things that I didn't like:
Sometimes the screen flashes (Palettes get brighter) when entering a gatehouse at night.
The shrine at the forest doesn't look right because you can’t face it (It's like that in all the remakes)
the map is squeezed onto one page. It looks unprofessional
There was no Fisherman music. I think it is supposed to sound like the Poke maniacs

Things that I did like:
The day and Night implementation.
Professor Oak doesn't ask me for Silver's name.
Actual Apricorns instead of renamed berries.
The maps were not 100% copies of the originals.
The radio.
Some custom sprites.
the pillar in the Sprout Tower is shaking. Really cool!
Complete scripts. Like when your rival bumps you it makes a sound and when someone leaves through the door it also make a sound. There are more of them but I forgot.

Also a bug that I found:
All the (step on a tile) events take place again during the night. Ex; I get to battle my rival at Cherrygrove City.

Let me fix up your lists first:
Things that I didn't like:
Sometimes the screen flashes (Palettes get brighter) when entering a gatehouse at night.
D/N system problem; ask ZodiacDaGreat, interdpth, and Mastermind_X to fix that.
The shrine at the forest doesn't look right because you can’t face it (It's like that in all the remakes)
What exactly do you mean by "you can't face it"?
The map is squeezed onto one page. It looks unprofessional
Well, it was either that, or having only one of the two. Which would you rather want? :/
There was no Fisherman music. I think it is supposed to sound like the Poke maniacs
The Fisherman music is a remix of the R/B/Y music, so I just used FR's version. I'll probably change that later. Sheesh, this is the first beta!
There are more of them but I forgot.

Things that I did like:
The pillar in the Sprout Tower is shaking. Really cool!
Complete scripts. Like when your rival bumps you it makes a sound and when someone leaves through the door it also make a sound.
The day and Night implementation.
The police officer doesn't ask me for Silver's name.
I tried, but failed to implement this. Maybe (maybe!) in another beta.
Actual Apricorns instead of renamed berries.
The maps were not 100% copies of the originals.
Well, the only places I did this were in places I had to do it in. Otherwise, I tried to get them as accurate as possible.
The radio.
Some custom sprites.

Also a bug that I found:
All the (step on a tile) events take place again during the night. Ex; I get to battle my rival at Cherrygrove City.
And finally... WHAT?!?!?!?
Please explain further, as I have no idea what you mean... They don't get reset at all.

Well, that's what people USED to think... until Chaos Rush found out that Emerald uses 0xFF free space like everything else and not 0x00. I've been working on this since approx. the end of May this year.

Ok, I haven't played this yet, but looking at your features list, I can't really see what exactly makes this different from other remakes?

Complete recreation of almost everything imaginable; sprites, sound, maps, events, and text all are almost perfect copies of their GBC counterparts, only slightly updated
Oro Sole?
May be based off of Emerald, but most things are taken from FireRed, including sprites, tiles, battle graphics, font, animations, ...
Pure Gold?
Day/Night system; while not being the most original thing in the hack, it allows for more sense of realism
Almost a hundred hacks out there?
No more Wally w/Zigzagoon against Ralts! Events like that have been ASM'd to resemble Crystal as much as possible
Not really much of a feature just a slight moderation to make it more like a remake.
Ruins of Alph puzzles... in Emerald! While the colors aren't correct, the rest of it sure is
Played that in Liquid Crystal before, and I'm sure Oro Sole and Pure Gold will have it too
Scripts are made to the best of my ability; no more exclamation mark without the sound!
Cool.
No sound glitches; this hack uses 0xFF free space, and uses the built-in FR voicegroups
I'm pretty sure a lot of hacks have no sound glitches.

Ok but I don't see why make another remake. I'll quote a vm I sent to someone on another forum, after they said something about Pure Gold being one of the only hacks they follow.
Keep in mind that this is just my opinion and I mean no disrespect to anyone.
It's in the progressing hacks showcase. I've tested it and it's a really great hack, the only bugs I found were a few small grammatical errors. Pure Gold....I'm not really too fond off. I mean, there isn't really a point, the only types of people who ever make remakes are either the really amazing hackers who can do ASM and stuff and make a bunch of tools, or the obsessed fanboys/fangirls who want to be the next Zel, or Gamefreak. The creators. After their remake, I can't really see a point in others. In fact, although Shiny Gold wasn't that good, I don't really see a point in remakes at all anymore
. It's like if someone makes a hack about Mewtwo attacking someones father, and a kid wants to find the Pokemon while on his Pokemon adventure, just to get his revenge and make his dad proud, all because they wanted to copy me (although I can't exactly see that happening anyway). Yes, I made Shining Platinum, but that was really just a small practice hack (hence all the bad jokes), to practice for my old hack, which failed (It's Pokemon Iron And Stone and it's in the crapbox if you still have the link and want something to laugh at). Also, most remakes are the same nowadays except with either "Brand new ASM features, because I can ASM hack, therefore I'm better than you!" or ""nyoo rivel", and it just gets really boring. The only "Original" remake I've seen, was Liquid Crystal, because it had so many extra features and sidequests. Other than that, they all really bore me now, no matter how much ASM or nyoo rivels they have.

What I'm saying is, do you have an imagination? If so, use it. Because people only make remakes because Zel did it, even GameFreak made theirs for crying out loud, and people STILL do it, because they want to copy Zel. Remakes have no originality at all, because the exact same thing has been done a million times.

I completely understand you. The reason that I started this hack was to finally have at least ONE finished GSC remake that stayed as close as possible to the original. I mean, maybe it's just me, but I like my GSC pretty much vanilla.

And yes, I DO happen to have an imagination. That'll be evident once I get to the Sevii Isles ;)

- Also, Youngster Joey battles you before the roadblock on Route 30 is cleared.

To think even today ShinyGold is one of the biggest influences in the hacking community. This hack looks very professional, but I just have one tip, try to explore the Johto region more. Use HG and SS as an example, they changed the maps a little, added some more places, I think this hack would benefit if you did that too.

What I meant about the shrine is that when you face it, you only face either
the right or left front side and it doesn't look good that way. It would be better if
you can face the center. It would be cool because then your game will have
that difference from every other remake.

Instead of just complaining about how the world map doesn't look good all cramped like that, I come offering a solution. A while ago, I was messing around with some of the world map routines in Emerald and I managed to do this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WCkCCuowTDQ). When you finish with Johto and begin working on Kanto, let me know and maybe we can work out a deal. ;)

Instead of just complaining about how the world map doesn't look good all cramped like that, I come offering a solution. A while ago, I was messing around with some of the world map routines in Emerald and I managed to do this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WCkCCuowTDQ). When you finish with Johto and begin working on Kanto, let me know and maybe we can work out a deal. ;)
When I first commented on the map and how it looked bad that it was all cramped together, I had forgotten that Diego was using Emerald. But with this cool thing that you did, now it's possible to have a good looking map.

What I meant about the shrine is that when u face it, you only face either
the right or left side and it doesn't look good that way. It would be better if
you can face the center and to do that you would have to make it bigger. It
would be cool because then your game will have that difference from every other
remake.
Check the latest patch. ;)

By "removing" the RoA, that means that the puzzle has now been replaced with, "Would you like to solve the puzzle?" Y/N
And by "fixed", yes, that means that I update it "on the spot". :D

Maybe... Not very likely, though.

Also, by saying that you'd forgotten that this was Emerald, that must mean that I've done a good job of porting over FireRed graphics. :D

From the looks of it, this could potentially be one of my favourite ROM hacks of all time; up there with Pokemon Prism. ;) The amount of effort and how it looks like it will have all of the features of Pokemon Crystal are amazing, in my opinion. I have some questions:

Will you be able to decorate your room? I haven't really played the ROM much so I haven't checked. Additionally, will the decorations from Pokemon Gold/Silver/Crystal be in it? e.g.: the game consoles, the beds, the plants.
I'm wondering how Buena's Password is going to be done, assuming it is in it. XD
Will it just be the Battle Tower, or will there be the Battle Frontier. This also leads on to my next point...
What about features from Pokemon Emerald like the Pokemon Contests? Will they get ditched completely, or will they be in Crystal Dust in some fom? Just wondering because I kinda liked Contests. XD

I might get round to playing the Beta fully later. :) Can't wait until it's finished, and good luck. :D

I'll try, but that'll probably be added in after the Johto/Kanto part is completed.
I'm wondering how Buena's Password is going to be done, assuming it is in it. XD Well, the radio is planned for later, and, well, Buena's Password will come with it, obviously.
Will it just be the Battle Tower, or will there be the Battle Frontier. This also leads on to my next point... There might just be the Battle Tower in Johto, but Sevii will most likely host the rest.
What about features from Pokemon Emerald like the Pokemon Contests? Will they get ditched completely, or will they be in Crystal Dust in some fom? Just wondering because I kinda liked Contests. XD Again, Sevii will probably be a host to those kinds of things. My Johto will be pretty much the same as in G/S/C, although the new features will come in the Islands ;)

Yes, the game has a D/N system. If you can't see it, either you have it turned off in VBA or your platform doesn't support it... or maybe something else.

This is probably the most promising GSC remake that I've ever seen.

The problem is - it's too late. We've got HGSS. The era of remakes is over.

Yay at using Emerald as the base, it's got everything that FRLG has plus the PokeNav. It's a really good choice.

But those maps from Platinum/Palladium Project are bored and tired from every side. Seeing them gets me annoyed, it's like I'm looking at the same hack all the time.

I say - don't be afraid of importing some stuff of HGSS. Some elements of HGSS are really fine to be used in a GBA remake (like Rocket Executives, they really need their names and sprites [you may want to make Archer and Ariana more similar to their GSC counterparts, though]).

Also, what I'd love to see is to see HGSS-like Johto tilesets but in FRLG style. And I'm not talking about those DS-imitating tilesets, as they're mostly ugly and annoying. I'm saying that it'd be possible to make HGSS-based tilesets but in GBA style, without mimicking the pseudo-3D graphics.

I came up with a cool idea. You should implement all the beta stuff they never had in the finals- Music, Safari Zone, and such. Find some here (http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Pok%C3%A9mon_Crystal_beta), here (http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Pok%C3%A9mon_Gold_and_Silver_beta), and here (http://wiki.rustedlogic.net/Pokemon_Gold).

This is probably the most promising GSC remake that I've ever seen. Thanks.

The problem is - it's too late. We've got HGSS. The era of remakes is over. That's like saying that just because... nvm, read the quote under this.

Yay at using Emerald as the base, it's got everything that FRLG has plus the PokeNav. It's a really good choice. Thanks. I thought about FireRed, but, like you said, Emerald IS FireRed IMPROVED. Plus, for GSC remakes, it's overused.

But those maps from Platinum/Palladium Project are bored and tired from every side. Seeing them gets me annoyed, it's like I'm looking at the same hack all the time. Maps? From Palladium? What are you talking about? I made all my maps from scratch - the tilesets and some sprites have been copied from there, nothing more.

I say - don't be afraid of importing some stuff of HGSS. Some elements of HGSS are really fine to be used in a GBA remake (like Rocket Executives, they really need their names and sprites [you may want to make Archer and Ariana more similar to their GSC counterparts, though]). Uhh, no. Remember, my goal is to make as accurate a GSC remake as possible.

Also, what I'd love to see is to see HGSS-like Johto tilesets but in FRLG style. And I'm not talking about those DS-imitating tilesets, as they're mostly ugly and annoying. Hmm...

I appreciate your dedication and I love your work thus far.
The beta is quite enjoyable.

My main concern is that it doesn't offer much beyond the usual remake of G/S.
I mean, Shiny Gold was a Gold Remake with a few bits here and there.
Crystal Shards was a G/S/C remake with lots of extras thrown in.

There's other remakes out there that also offer a complete recreation of G/S.

My main concern is that it's just G/S with better graphics with the possible addition of the Sevii Islands (which is awesome).
Which is what HG/SS gave us. Not entirely a complete recreation but it gave us G/S with better graphics and one or two new features.

Nevertheless, I will continue to play this when you release further betas/the full game.
GOOD LUCK WITH IT!

I've played your hack up to the first cave(Ran into a glitch). So, I guess I should give you a review.

Things I liked

The fact that the door in Bellsprout Tower was animated.
How closely everything is matched to the original G/S/C
The scripts are very well done.
Hoenn Pokemon in the grass. <3
Things I disliked

The Night palletes, you can edit them in the D/N tool you're using.
The high encounter rate for Pidgeys. Almost every. Single. One. Was a Pidgey.
No night pokemon(I'm sure you'll fix this.)
The fact that there might not be much variation from original G/S/C to this.
Bugs / Glitches / Oddities

In the PokeGear, the prof. is named Birch, not Elm.
http://img183.imageshack.us/img183/1783/glitch1.png

And now, the one that stopped me from playing further. This glitch switched me with the nurse from the PokeCenter before the cave that links Violet to Azalea(Spelling?) Town. As in, I'm behind the counter with a discolored sprite, and my original sprite is on the other side of the counter. Also, note that pressing start and looking at your Pokemon will revert your sprite back to the original, but you'll still be behind the counter. I've taken screenies of both.
http://img186.imageshack.us/img186/7884/glitch2c.png
http://img163.imageshack.us/img163/8282/lolim.png

Sometimes, when entering a building at night, the pallete switches to day for a brief moment then reverts.
Now, I'm completely sure you can fix the first one. However, I have no idea as to how to fix the second. But, you're Diego. You can probably do it.

Suggestions

Change the Night part of the D/N System. I feel as if it's just a tiiiiny bit too bright.
Lower the Pidgey encounter rate. They drove me insane. xD
The first route, the building that leads to the route that connects Blackthorn City with the first route, can you do something about the Pokemon there? I went in expecting a lvl 3 Geodude or something and caught a level 13 Marill by accident. o_O (Sorry I'm not giving specific Route names. I can't remember them.)
In Bellsprout Tower, could you slightly darken the pallete to the floor tile? It seems too bright to me.
If it's possible, could you make it so music changes with night and day? Like, normal music during the day and kind of slower, softer music at night? I think it'd be a nice little feature to make this hack kind of more unique.
Comments

Loads of people are saying that this is pointless because we already have G/S/C remakes. However, HG/SS are games I didn't particularly like. They didn't give me the same nostalgic feel I seemed to have while I played this. I thank you for bringing back my childhood memories of playing this game outside on the porch on my Gameboy color until the sun set and I had to go inside and play with regular lights. Or the memory of my parents driving to Connecticut and I made them buy a flashlight so I could play my Gold version at night. Don't give up Diego. Make this better than HG/SS. I know you can do it.
Fix the bugs. ;]
Well, that's all I can think to say. I hope you take all of this into consideration, as I think this'll help your hack. Or, if you throw it all out the window, I completely understand your point of view.

Cheers,

FireRed graphics suit it much better than any fan-made tilesets would.

I was talking about a different thing.

I said that Johto should look at least a bit different from Kanto. For example, the houses in the towns should have their own designs, so that they don't look exactly the same as the houses in some town in Kanto.

Also, I think that the look of trees, signs, Gyms etc. should look different between Kanto and Johto, as it did in GSC. That's my concern here.

In GSC, where you went to Kanto, you really felt that you're in a different region, as it had different tileset. No fan remake I've seen so far has kept this feeling.

And I think that the designs for buildings and the like should be made from scratch, based on those from HGSS (so, for example, houses in Violet City are wooden with violet roof etc.) but they should be made in overall FRLG graphic style (as I said, I hate mimicking NDS graphic style in GBA hacks).

hmmm then how u gonna do the national park event (bug catching) ? :I
oh maybe u can make it once a day (regardless of what day it is :p)
and the same goes to the guy offering the moves :)

where can i check the time in the game? there's only a clock in the game it's at my house....or maybe can u set the clock in the PokeGear? :D
Maybe, but not likely.
Also, the clock will probably go into the PokéGear, yes, once I figure out how.
No thanks. One, I haven't quite finished it yet. Two, it's not really necessary until you get to Kanto. While you're working towards completing Johto, I'll work on my side of the project. I'll let you know when I think I've made a more finished product.
Okay then, thanks.

Well, it is, after all, probably the most accurate and best scripted GSC remake.
Mine will have a lot of extras, but only after the GSC section of it because, well, I don't want to change too much from the original storyline.
I've played your hack up to the first cave(Ran into a glitch). So, I guess I should give you a review.

Things I liked

The fact that the door in Bellsprout Tower was animated. Sweet, thanks.

How closely everything is matched to the original G/S/C Thanks. :D

The scripts are very well done. Again, thanks. :P

Hoenn Pokemon in the grass. <3 Tha- wait, wait, what? That's a glitch.

Things I disliked

The Night palletes, you can edit them in the D/N tool you're using. I tried, and that's as dark as they get. :/

The high encounter rate for Pidgeys. Almost every. Single. One. Was a Pidgey. CD has the same exact encounter rates as Crystal...

No night pokemon(I'm sure you'll fix this.) As soon as a stable system comes in for Emerald, then yes. ;)

The fact that there might not be much variation from original G/S/C to this. Wait, let me get this straight... YOu said you liked it because how close it was to GSC, and then you say you dislike it for the same reason? :?

Bugs / Glitches / Oddities

In the PokeGear, the prof. is named Birch, not Elm. Well, Elm never does give you your Pokédex rating... As soon as Gamer2020 releases his PokéNav editor (if he ever does XD) that'll be fixed. I could change it to Oak right now, but what would Elm's number be? :/

http://img183.imageshack.us/img183/1783/glitch1.png

And now, the one that stopped me from playing further. This glitch switched me with the nurse from the PokeCenter before the cave that links Violet to Azalea(Spelling?) Town. As in, I'm behind the counter with a discolored sprite, and my original sprite is on the other side of the counter. Also, note that pressing start and looking at your Pokemon will revert your sprite back to the original, but you'll still be behind the counter. I've taken screenies of both. Dang. :/ I thought I'd fixed all of these... Well, it's fixed now, and I've uploaded the fixed patch, so you can finally progress onto Azalea Town and Goldenrod City. :D

http://img186.imageshack.us/img186/7884/glitch2c.png
http://img163.imageshack.us/img163/8282/lolim.png

Sometimes, when entering a building at night, the pallete switches to day for a brief moment then reverts. D/N system glitch, I can't fix it. :/

Now, I'm completely sure you can fix the first one. However, I have no idea as to how to fix the second. But, you're Diego. You can probably do it. Sadly, I can't fix the second one.

Suggestions

Change the Night part of the D/N System. I feel as if it's just a tiiiiny bit too bright. D/N system limitation.

Lower the Pidgey encounter rate. They drove me insane. xD The Pidgeys are the same as in Crystal.

The first route, the building that leads to the route that connects Blackthorn City with the first route, can you do something about the Pokemon there? I went in expecting a lvl 3 Geodude or something and caught a level 13 Marill by accident. o_O (Sorry I'm not giving specific Route names. I can't remember them.) Yeah, this was a mistake on my part. I accidentally forgot to change the Pokémon on Route 46 when I mapped it. Fixed and uploaded.

Possibly, if I can get someone to do remixes like that.

Fix the bugs. ;] Don't worry, (big) problems solved.

Well, that's all I can think to say. I hope you take all of this into consideration, as I think this'll help your hack. Or, if you throw it all out the window, I completely understand your point of view. Why would I ever do that? (well, why would I do that before I turned 16, at least? I am only 13, you know!)

Cheers,

Nice long review there, too!
+1 for Sevii Islands!! You would be completely remapping it, not just changing the warps or something?
Well, that's what I have planned. Just changing the warps would be stupid. :P
Another +1 vote for it to be in the Sevii Islands.

Also, agreed that the night is just a wee bit too bright.
Well, I guess it's unanimous then. :D
And, like I told Anselection above, it's a D/N system limitation.
I was talking about a different thing.

But yeah, that might be something I do when I get to Johto... and maybe Sevii too. :D

The Hoenn pokemon were encountered the same spot as the Marill. I only found a Poochyena and a Illumise in there. Also, what I meant by not much variation was that you must make this game yours. Yes, nail it as close to G/S/C as humanly possible, but also throw in your own ideas in there in some places. Be it a rival, an extra area, etc. Regarding the PokeGear, you should change it to Oak. And Prof. Elm should be in there for when he calls you after Mr. Pokemon's house, the first Gym, etc. etc. He could also be there to give you helpful hints in between these events.

I fixed the Hoenn Pokémon; download the new patch.
Also, my originality is coming after Johto and Kanto; that's when GSC's storyline is finished and I can start doing things that I made up. ;)
Okay... In the Pokégear, I'll change it to Oak, but what should I change to become Elm? That's my question.
EDIT: Also, a new patch is up; it has a new (and possibly better) animation for the Pokémon Center healing.

it's a D/N system limitation.
I see. I was thinking of the latest Ruby Destiny hack, then, which I just revisited for the sake of getting my "brightness bearings." Sure enough, it wasn't noticeably darker than yours -- but somehow, the windows of the houses were made to light up! That's the trick I suppose--not the overall darkness level, but the contrast between the light of the windows and the darkness of the night tiles that makes the dark seem that much more "real" (not to mention the obvious fact that the windows lit up in G/S/C). But again, if this is the fault of the engine, or if it's only possible in Ruby but not Emerald, I'd completely understand. It's such a trivial detail, really.

But think about it this way. The fact that people are bothering to point out such trivial matters in this hack specifically indicates its level of refinement is already so high that the "trivial" things become suddenly more tangibly relevant. If this isn't clear enough indication that you've got something special here, just await the mass outcry later down the road when reports of the "sound not being stereo" come in. ;)

Well, to do that, I would have to do setmaptiles to EVERY SINGLE MAP and reserve a palette for the golden effect, and I don't think I want to do that ATM...
And I see what you mean in the second paragraph. :D

Agreed; too much work. But if you ever decide to re-visit the idea, consider the practical aspects of "limiting" your approach. Not every map has houses, and some maps (featuring houses not in cities, etc) won't need to stay lit at night either. In fact, you could limit the effect to select houses in select cities -- just enough to give off the "effect" without going overboard.

Just some food for thought... not that I know what any of this entails code-wise. I could be completely off-base here myself. ;)

If I ever do create that, then that's probably not what I'd do.
I mean, whenever you walk into a house, its lights are on.
It wouldn't make sense, then, to have some on outside and some not.
But I'll consider doing that for maybe Beta 2 ;)

I like and see what you're saying... until you get to the last paragraph. No, I won't be copying the buildings/trees from HG/SS because, if I did do your idea, then I think that fan-created ones would suit it much better.

But Game Freak's official presentation of the world will always be leagues more accurate and better-looking than some fanwank.

Especially that Project Platinum's tilesets give me an automatic regurgitative effect whenever I see them, just as much as the people who led that project (mostly elitist pricks who bash anyone who doesn't agree with them). Not to mention that they simply look dull, their Johto looks exactly the same as Kanto, it's so boring.

So, if you're neglecting official material, why don't you remake Kanto as well? After all, FRLG Kanto is just an inaccurate presentation of RGBY, just as HGSS is an inaccurate presentation of HGSS.

Yes, it may be more "accurate" and "better-looking" to what they had in mind, but mine is MUCH more accurate when compared to Crystal. And that's what I'm going for here.
If you like HGSS's maps and such, go play HGSS, not complain about how a fan remake isn't what Game Freak wanted it to be.

And well, I'm sorry about the tilesets giving you a regurgitative effect, but it IS mostly FRLG tileset, plus some sweet other things in FRLG format. I'll admit, however, to the fact that the two regions look the same; in the future, something will be done to make Kanto and Johto look different, but right now, it doesn't matter as much as it will when all the regions are present.

And well, why wouldn't I remake Kanto as well? Did you think I was simply going to copy FRLG's maps after all of the trouble of getting them as accurate to GSC as possible? No siree, they'll be remade, although following FRLG's representation a bit, too.

@Maxim: I'm going out on a limb here, but I find the fan-made tiles in Light Platinum, Blue Sea Edition, and so on to be visually stunning -- an excellent expression of individuality and/or community effort.

Some people just have different "art" preferences. Some might like art to be so simple and gaudy as to actually come off "ugly" to others. You should understand this better than anyone, given your sig, which I thought was trying to make the same point! :)

Oh, I see. So like one island is cold and snowy, another is tropical and rainy, another is desert-like and sunny, etc... and the Pokemon found on each reflect this. Speaking of which, if there's any room in the ROM and it's easy enough to do, you could also experiment with new tilesets (like those wonderful woody ones for the rainy island, etc).

But I imagine this is well into the future.

Is it possible to change Prof Birch's phone message to something else before you receive your Pokedex? (Or the label "Always Fun" for 'MOM'?) Otherwise, seeing 0 Pokemon on a non-existent Pokedex might seem odd. Also, the 'H' in Birch is cut off -- since he's already labeled a "PKMN PROF.", maybe you can just change it to BIRCH to avoid the overflow.

But really, it's very impressive we have a phone system now. I'm mesmerized by it, haha. That was one of the main GSC features I missed the most in remakes (besides Day/Night).

Would it be possible to make it so you get the Map Card after the old man gives it to you? As it is bugging me that you have it from the start of the game... XD
I'm loving the fact that even small things like the radio (the tile, not the PokeGear function XD) are in the game. It's a shame they don't play music, but meh, I cna live without it. :P
The music is good too. :)
I like the Mystery Egg's sprite. :)
Oh, and how Mr. Pokemon has (what appears to be) a unique sprite. The same for Prof. Elm. :)
I'm a bit disappointed that you don't get to name your rival. :\
No more Wally! :D
Yay, Running Shoes! :D (For a second, I thought they wouldn't be in it.)
Mum/Mom doesn't save your money? :(
Didn't the machine in Prof. Elm's lab heal you in the original Pokemon Crystal, or am i thinking of something else...? :S Nevermind, you have to use the computer next to it! XD

According to the PokeGear, Youngster Joey is at the Union Cave when he should be at Route 30. Idk if you can change this, so excuse me if you can't.
Bug Catcher Wade doesn't get registered in your PokeGear. Again, I don't know if you're able to fix it.
Despite the Ruins of Alph's puzzle being dodgy (which you already know about, so this isn't me reporting a bug), it was fun. Plus, I loved how the hero falls down the hole. XD I know it was the same in the original, but it's still oddly cute in a wierd way. XD
I went and got the Running Shoes from Mom before I left, yet she still rings me to tell me I should have talked to her before I left, and says I don't have the Running Shoes... o_O

It seems Day/Night affects the evolution screen..? Fr example, if it's night, when you're Pokemon is evolving, the screen will still be tinted dark. o_o
Picnicker Liz doesn't get registered on the PokeGear... Is it only Joey who gets registered (out of the trainers you can battle)?
Nor does "you should take to your mom sometimes..." Ralph. Since I'm assuming it's only Joey who gets registered, I'm probably not going to say if a trainer that should get registered, doesn't get regisered into the PokeGear (unless there is another trainer that actually does get registered into the PokeGear.)

Picnicker Liz doesn't get registered on the PokeGear... Is it only Joey who gets registered (out of the trainers you can battle)? Yeah, limitation of the PokéNav again. The trainers I replaced to have my own didn't have any PokéNav values, and therefore don't get registered correctly.
Nor does "you should take to your mom sometimes..." Ralph. Since I'm assuming it's only Joey who gets registered, I'm probably not going to say if a trainer that should get registered, doesn't get regisered into the PokeGear (unless there is another trainer that actually does get registered into the PokeGear.) Look at above answer.
Another little error (check the spoiler for a screenshot.) /]http://img34.imageshack.us/img34/1705/screenshot3rl.png (http://img34.imageshack.us/i/screenshot3rl.png/) Yet again, download the new patch. (Jeez, so many [small] errors... XD)
I'm loving the FireBreather sprite. :) Credits to Pokémon Platinum GSC.
I love how you actually show Kurt lying on his back. :D See above answer.
I'm looking for a Dunsparce at the moment... I gave up on looking for Dunsparce! XD Where were you looking?

Thanks for being so thorough! I appreciate it.
Ah, except perhaps he was referring to the Sevii Islands or another such "new" area? Possibly. I might do that for Sevii if I can find good enough tilesets.

What's impressive isn't that it exists, but that it exists in a Johto remake. All the Fire Red revamps aside, last I checked the phone didn't work all that well even in Crystal Shards, which also used an Emerald base. Ah, I see. :)

Ah...was it like that in the original? How strange! XD No, in the original, Mom didn't have a title. Maybe I should change it to "Parent"? Yeah, I'll go ahead and do that. Release of this will be in next fix, not current.

The problem of last-letter overflow also exists in the money display, shown above by Retribution. Yes. As I told Retribution, this happens because of my changing Emerald's font to FireRed's. It doesn't matter all that much right now, anyways, because it isn't even Oak yet, so I'll leave it as that right now.

Responses in bold. (Always wanted to do that after seeing you do it!) It's just a really easy way to respond to everything singularly.
Responses in bold... copier! XD

I did set the right chance of there being a shiny, but I don't know if the Shinyzer works on eggs...

Are you sure that you're clicking on the "Download CrystalDust" link?
Also, an .aps file is an Alternate Patching System type of file, similar to .ips.
But why are you asking here? The only type of download I have is .ips...

They're trying to be as close as possible to the original Crystal, and thatw as the size they were there...

It just says his speech.
And in-battle, in the first battle, he's called ???.

Love the game, the OWs, the scripting accuracy, etc. But I think you should take a Shiny Gold esque approach. Add some of your own scripts, make the game a bit harder when we get to Kanto. Make us feel like we're playing a BETTER version of Crystal. I've been looking through Shiny Gold and changing some things to make my own private completed version of the game, and I've seen that Zel really made an effort to keep the storyline the same, but add his own personal touch at the same time. The Pokenav-Pokegear idea was great, and if you can do that, it's limitless to what else you can add in. Without extras, it'd just be Pokemon Crystal all over again! I loved Crystal, but I really want to see a change of pace with this hack. Good luck!

EDIT: Also, you forgot to add Phanpy to Route 46, which was a big part of the Crystal experience! Just saying (;

This is diegoisawesome's ROM Hack not yours. The game is fine just the way it is, it doesn't need anything new unless Game Freak (NOT NINTENDO) did it. I am tired of these GSC remakes having stupid changes that were not even in the game, it just takes the fun out of it for me. I am glad it gives the same feeling as Pokemon Crystal, this is my only favorite GSC remake! Besides HG/SS, but they are the offical remakes though.

Awesome answer below.
Also, Phanpy was in Route 46 in the morning, and since there isn't time-of-day wild Pokémon, I used the daytime Pokémon. Sorry. :(

I agree (almost) completely. For some hacks, having some extras that weren't in the original storyline works fine, but CrystalDust is having an almost-perfect, almost-unchanged Crystal experience on the GBA. I, like you, don't like hacks that go overboard with the changes, though. I saw a hack that had a petting zoo in Cherrygrove or something and I was like "o_o wut". Hehe, good times.

Anyways, many people don't seem to get that CrystalDust is trying to be an almost-exact remake of Crystal, and that the new stuff is coming after everything in Crystal's been said and done.

So I'm guessing that pretty much means that Kanto will look like a post apocalyptic wasteland like it was in G/S/C, and that there will be pathetically low levels because you're not going to fix the problem where you could challenge Chuck, Jasmine, and Pryce in almost any order you want. And is Johto going to be filled with Kanto Pokemon again, and are most Johto Pokemon going to be practically mythological just like in G/S/C/HG/SS? And will Route 23 actually exist?

You do realize that the reason why Kanto was so tiny in G/S/C and removed so many things (such as Viridian Forest), was due to the game's 2mb limit? Judging by the PokeNav map, you're going to leave Kanto in it's ruined G/S/C state. Why are you going to do that, when the problem that caused that in G/S/C doesn't affect you, since you have a lot more space?

EDIT: Then again, not everybody views those as problems, since you said you like your G/S/C vanilla. But this is just my opinion, but I think G/S/C/HG/SS are flawed games.

I get what you're saying. But as you said in the last paragraph, I do like my GSC vanilla. It represents what happened to Kanto in the three years between RBY and GSC.
What I could do, however, is something, maybe, with Viridian Forest (maybe) because, I agree, that was just BAD. But other things will stay the same as in GSC.

And "post-apocalyptic wasteland"? I think that's a bit too harsh, don't you think? After all, the only really badly affected things were Viridian Forest and Mt. Moon, from what I can remember.

And "post-apocalyptic wasteland"? I think that's a bit too harsh, don't you think? After all, the only really badly affected things were Viridian Forest and Mt. Moon, from what I can remember.

*Safari Zone is gone (though it was originally supposed to be there cuz there's map data) (HG/SS had it turned into Pal Park, which is reasonable)
*Cerulean Cave is gone (HG/SS fixed this)
*Cinnabar Island conveniently destroyed by volcano, which equates to less map data
*Viridian Forest turned into "Viridian Bushes" (HG/SS fixed this)
*Pokemon Tower conveniently turned into a radio tower, which equates to less map data
*Pewter City Museum closed (HG/SS fixed this)
*Route 23 practically doesn't exist

And also, the map problems (this does not affect HG/SS, since HG/SS made the maps bigger than FR/LG, in comparison to G/S/C making it smaller than R/B/Y.) All of these maps shrunk from R/B/Y (yes, I checked map dimensions):
*Diglett's Cave was moved to Vermilion City, which caused the main part of Vermilion City to shrink (map dimensions are actually the same)
*Celadon City shrunk
*Indigo Plateau and Route 23 became one map, both shrunk
*Every single route had it's size reduced
*WHAT HAPPENED TO ROUTE 23!?!?!?
*In all cities, despite all the cities having the same map dimensions (except Celadon), the buildings had to be arranged differently to accommodate the shrunken routes. Many buildings now lacked doors and overall just seemed dead...

Again, none of what I said above applies to HG/SS, but HG/SS are still flawed for other reasons, such as not fixing the level problem.

Some other problems I didn't like about G/S/C/HG/SS
The main cause of the level problem is that you could challenge Chuck, Jasmine, and Pryce in almost any order you want. Most people choose to fight Chuck as the 5th Gym Leader, so when they reach Route 43, you have 6 badges and you're still fighting Lv15 Pokemon, which is pretty ridiculous. And the Rocket Executives topped off with a Lv25 Murkrow (Lv27 in HG/SS), despite most players having faced Jasmine's Lv35 Steelix already.

And also, the Rocket Executive teams are pathetic. When I faced Archer in HG/SS (he's the one with the Houndoom), I was somewhat expecting his team to be changed considering how lame it was in G/S/C, and when he first sent out a Lv35 Houndour (Lv33 in G/S/C), the first thing I thought was, "WTF!?!? IS THIS A JOKE?" And when Proton sent out a Lv8 Zubat in Slowpoke Well, I thought the same thing.

Please don't take my posts as an insult, it's not that I don't like your hack, I just don't like some aspects of G/S/C/HG/SS.

All of those changes could have happened over a three-year period. However, some things like Cerulean Cave's absence will be rectified, the only difference being that instead of being in GSC's storyline, it'll be after. Anything different from GSC will usually come to be in the Sevii Islands or at least in that time period.

I see the idiocy with the levels, though. Those will most definitely be changed. However, things like map dimensions and so forth will not because that's GSC's view on the maps, and therefore mine.

I love your random crying Sonicblaze. I make a simple suggestion and you rudely reply? It wouldve been fine if Diego said something like that - it's his thread. And I know it's not my ROM hack quite obviously, but what makes it funny is how immature you are with an answer like that. Besides, I doubt diego would add any of the "dumb extras" and he'd actually add in goo, well-scripted ones. The little added things make the games better, because hats the point of playing this if it's the same as Crystal? Might as well just play Crystal, right?

That's a pity.

Actually, I think that the Cerulean Cave "fix" is actually one of HGSS's biggest flaws.

Give us some more exciting way to catch Mewtwo, don't make him sit in the same freakin' cave for three motherlovin' years.

Don't bring back a cave for the sake of bringing back a cave. Cerulean Cave's only purpose is Mewtwo and he can be put in the game in a different, more exciting way (give it some story).

But not in HGSS. In HGSS he was just at his cave, without any explanation, as if he hasn't moved an inch for three years.

Same goes for the Birds - they were put into HGSS for no reason. They weren't needed and their existence in the game was bothersome.

You could easily say that they were there in R/G/B/FR/LG for no reason. How is their existence bothersome? Nobody is forcing you to battle them, and entering Cerulean Cave is completely optional. Yeah, so maybe Mewtwo hasn't moved an inch for three years, but you don't know how long he's already been there in FR/LG, so for all we know, he hasn't moved at all for over a decade. In fact, you could say the same thing about pretty much every stationary legendary in any Pokemon game ever :/. We don't know how Lugia got in the Whirl Islands, we don't know how the Regis got themselves trapped in caves without an entrance, we don't know why Mesprit, Azelf, and Uxie are inside of their lake caverns. But does it really matter? In my opinion, no.

Mewtwo is in Cerulean Cave in HG/SS for the same reason that every other stationary legendary Pokemon is in its respective location. Even if he hasn't moved an inch for 3 years, for all you know, he probably hasn't moved at all for 50 years (well I guess it depends on how old those diaries in the Pokemon Mansion are).

Searching the habitat of pokemon with PokeDEX, i can't get the correct map as crystal version. The map showed from the PokeDEX is still the origin map from Emerald. Can this problem be resolved?
Yeah, I still have yet to get around to that...

This hack is legitimately amazing for a Crystal remake.

My criticisms:

1) Difficulty (or lack thereof). I was running through the game, just seeing what it was, just with a Cyndaquil. It destroyed everything (up to after the Slowpoke Well, after which I tried to save and there was an error and it restarted my game, thus losing the save file. Doh!) and I had to do no grinding. Not saying you need to copy ShinyGold, but I am saying that Crystal was ridiculously easy. :P
2) Wild Pokemon diversity. Or maybe I didn't look hard enough. I saw no Poliwag's on the route to Violet and saw no Bellsprouts in Sprout Tower.
3) Not getting to pick the rival's name. Most people don't care, but I always liked naming my rival something derogatory.
4) Lack of distinction with original Crystal. From what I played, it seems like an exact copy. I liked Crystal, but I don't want to download a hack just to play a prettyfied version of it.

I really love the work you have been doing and good job so far! I can't wait for the next beta.

I am aware of this, although I'm trying to make everything as accurate to Crystal as possible, and this falls under that category. Sometime in the future, there's probably going to be a CrystalDust X-type thing, for people who want a challenge.
2) Wild Pokemon diversity. Or maybe I didn't look hard enough. I saw no Poliwag's on the route to Violet and saw no Bellsprouts in Sprout Tower.
For the Poliwags, that's because they come out at night and Beta 1 doesn't have RTC-dependent wild Pokémon encounters In Beta 2, however, there will be. For the Bellsprouts, that's just because... well, there actually ARE none in Sprout Tower. Confusing, isn't it?
3) Not getting to pick the rival's name. Most people don't care, but I always liked naming my rival something derogatory. This feature wasn't in Emerald, so until recently, I didn't know how to add it in. It will be present in Beta 2, don't worry.
4) Lack of distinction with original Crystal. From what I played, it seems like an exact copy. I liked Crystal, but I don't want to download a hack just to play a prettyfied version of it. Well, this is the reason behind this hack: to make it as accurate as possible to GSC, mainly for nostalgic purposes. This is that one hack where you try out something small that was in GSC and you're sure wouldn't have made it here, but it has, and you're amazed.

I really love the work you have been doing and good job so far! I can't wait for the next beta. Thanks! Neither can I. :P
Responses in bold.
Can you believe it? A custom nameable rival in Emerald? If you don't, I can understand why. A video will be released shortly with it inside!

This is a great hack so far!

The only thing that bugs me at the moment is that you used many things from Liquid Crystal. To me, that's not necessarily the best thing.

The music is... not the best. Try asking arugurete on Youtube for music, he made a japanese Pokemon Gold, and his sound tracks are... AWESOME. :D (including battle sprites)
When you get the PokeGear, it comes with the Map card...
The PokeGear shows Professor Birch instead of Professor Elm.
Rival isn't nameable... (yet, right? :P)

I'm keeping my eye on this hack. Definitely.

Below is a piece of arugurete's work:

I've played the game, and yes, the music is awesome!
I've tried contacting him (or her) before and he never responded, so there goes that idea. Anyways, the music will be made by clonex25 and Magnius, and the ones that sound bad are probably the ones I made myself because I didn't want the generic crap from RSE.
Yeah, I'm going to (somehow) try to figure out how to disable the map until the flag is set.
Yeah, it's still Birch because I didn't edit the text at that point, and so what would happen if you called Elm and got Birch instead? :S Don't worry, it's fixed for Beta 2.
Annddd... you're right. Since Emerald didn't have one built-in, I thought that it would be hopeless. But, some ASM later, I have done it! It will be available in CrystalDust Beta 2.

Heres what I think!
Feature#1: How peachy!
Feature#2: This will really make reading the map a lot easier. What is that island at the bottom?
Feature#3: Will this work on a flash cart?
Feature#4: WOW! You got it to work!
Feature#5: Now that's crackin'.
Feature#6: Feels just like Crystal! Are you the first to implement this?
Overall: This is really going to be the super-finest Crystal remake ever!

P.S. How far are you into the storyline?

Heres what I think!
Feature#1: How peachy! :D
Feature#2: This will really make reading the map a lot easier. What is that island at the bottom? Sevii Islands.
Feature#3: Will this work on a flash cart? Depends on if your flash cart supports an RTC. If it does, then it'll probably also support this... unless your flash cart hates the day of the week byte.
Feature#4: WOW! You got it to work! Actually, it wasn't too hard. The rival one was the thing that took the most effort.
Feature#5: Now that's crackin'. :D
Feature#6: Feels just like Crystal! Are you the first to implement this? In Emerald? I believe so. In any GBA Pokémon game? No, Hackmew is, and he helped me to make one for Emerald (at least, the calling from a script part).
Overall: This is really going to be the super-finest Crystal remake ever! :D:D:D

P.S. How far are you into the storyline? I haven't been working on the storyline at the moment because it's currently the time I have allotted for myself to work on Shining Opal, but I keep getting distracted by the figuring out of things in CrystalDust. Speaking of Shining Opal... *rushes back to work but gets distracted again by trying to display a clock on the PokéGear*
Responses in bold, as is customary for me.
On a side note: I'm looking for some new tiles in FR/LG style to replace the current ones: trees, generic buildings like route gates and Pokémon Centers, and possibly even grass. They also have to be reminiscent of their GSC equivalent (like maybe pointier trees and such) and fit with the current palettes.

They're the same level as they were in Crystal. In a while, there should be a kind of "CrystalDust X" though, for those who want a more "normally" leveled game experience.
So, pardon me for asking but is there any difference between this and Crystal?
Obviously, there are some differences, but I'm trying to get this remake as accurate to Crystal as possible. If you want differences, then just wait for Sevii to be included. :D

What about Mew, will you make it available like in Emerald?
And will you add the Birds and Mewtwo like in HGSS?
Safari Zone?
And for the inconvenience of answering that many questions, here is a present, from me, for you ;)
Hope you like it (and use it (i personally think it already floats somewhere on the internet));)

Now i havent read through all the comments but when i was playing your game i met the person that would show me how to capture pokemons. But instead of capturing the pokemon he instead made it faint. Do you think you can fix that by giving the pokemon a bit more health? Otherwise im still going through the hack and im about to go to the first gym. Gonna see if i can beat it with only cyndaquil (first evolve it)

*EDIT*

well i played a bit more and i decided to save my game once but for some reason my VBA emulator has been acting weird lately and i cant save any of my games. However after the game totally freezing but still being playable (i couldnt do anything) and i lost all my data. I decided to switch over to NO$GBA since the saving system works on that emulator. I made it to the voilet gym leader but i died on him. Im gonna train my cyndaquil up to a quilava and then im gonna fight him again. Its a great hack but i wish i had played a bit more of the original pokemon crystal. When the beta is over (i cant play any more of it) Im gonna rate everything and tell you what i think.

I have some ideas that you might find interesting. What i thought about was if you could make so at the end of the game you get a ticket to go on a boat to a hidden island that isnt on the map and when you arrive there you have a chance to battle Mew but you only get 1 chance on it so if you make him faint and you save after you cant get him anymore.

Another idea that is for the Celebi. I heard you get a GS ball and place it in his home and he appears. You could try making so proffesor Elm gives you the GS ball and tells you to let that pokeball guy that makes pokeballs to research it and then... well yeah you know the rest its just like the celebi event that you cant do anymore.

One last idea i got is again when you beat the game. You get another ticket that will take you to an island that is like the battle frontier in pokemon emerald but it has a diffirent name and looks like something that fits Jotho. Allthough i do bet you are gonna make so you visit kanto after you beat the game. Its just some ideas i got incase you couldnt add in Kanto. I played a bit more of the game and im leveling up my cyndaquil to make it ready to battle the voilet gym leader again. I know that when i do that kabuto puzzle i wont be able to do the puzzle. I hope you find a way to make it possible to have the puzzle since it was my favorite part of finding unown.

Okay, I will try to make the other sprites, but it might take some time, because I'm very busy at the moment (school, work, friends...) but I think it will be done in time.

I have some story ideas to.

First Celebi: Like in japanese Crystal (get GS Ball in PokeCom Center after E4 then go to Kurt and afterwards to the forest shrine)
Legendary Birds: Like in HG/SS (because Red did not catch them in the GS timeline)

Mewtwo: Also like in HG/SS (for the same reason)

Mew: when you catch/defeat Mewtwo you find a "Myterious DNA String" you take it to the fossil researchers (also like HG/SS) and one says that it's from Mew, then he remembers the "Old Sea Chart" they found in one underwater expedition and gives it to you, so that you can find Mew (than it's like in Emerald) I'm also thinking of doing you a better Mewtwo OW so that Mew's isn't bigger than Mewtwo.

Ruby: Since Ruby and Red had their adventures at the same time you could put Ruby into the game to, only that he is in the Seviis istead of Mt. Silver, he could have a team oriented on the Hoenn Starters Gardevoir and two others.

Regice: in a new chamber in Ice Path after defeating Ruby

Regirock: in Rock Tunnel after defeating Ruby

Registeel: Somewhere in the Seviis after defeating Ruby

Lati@s: Roaming Kanto after defeating Ruby

Groudon Kyogre Rayquaza: You find the Ruby and Saphire on the Seviis. After you give them to Celio he thanks you, because he lost them and then tells you about Groudon and Kyogre which are said to live under the Seviis, because they departed from Hoenn after the Big Battle they had three years ago, he then gives you the ticket to Navel Rock, where you find the two (both in underground Caverns) When you return outside Navel Rock collapses and on your next visit you find the Emerald! You then show it to Celio who then uses it to improve the Link to Hoenn, but something goes Wrong and you are teleported to Sky Tower (you can't leave because the Cave to Lillycove has collapse in the past three years) here you can catch Rayquaza, after the battle you are teleported to One Island again, where Celio tells you that Rayquaza may have wanted you to Tame Groudon and Kyogre once and for all.

Deoxys: After defeating Ruby you find a strange meteor on Mt. Moon Steven Stone meets you and tells you that something is not right about the rock he than gives you the Aurora ticket, because he thinks there is a connection between Birth island and the meteor. (I can make you a FR/LG Steven Stone sprite too ;) )

Jirachi: After defeating Ruby and returning to the place he was on the Seviis (It has to be on a mountain) and it's night you find a strange Stone where a writing is carved into which says that you should make a wish which comes from your heart, after answering the wish Jirachi appears (I will try to make sprite for it to)

Hope you like my Ideas for the Legendaries and maybe implement them ;)

Ok i just beated the Beta. It was fun but i do hope you have changed the intro since it looked boring to me since nothing was changed. Also i dont like that you cant name your Rival but i guess you cant program that in. Hope Beta 2 comes out soon since im really looking forward to beating Jotho. One more thing that confuses me is that Jotho is called Tohjo or something which is strange since its suppose to be Jotho. However this is all in Beta 1 i havent seen any progress pictures of the game yet. Keep up the good work since i dont want this hack to die!

Erm... Nope. There'll be a different way to get it that I've already planned out.

Well, it'll basically be the Celebi event in my game, with a minor difference.

One last idea i got is again when you beat the game. You get another ticket that will take you to an island that is like the battle frontier in pokemon emerald but it has a diffirent name and looks like something that fits Jotho. I played a bit more of the game and im leveling up my cyndaquil to make it ready to battle the voilet gym leader again. Cool. I know that when i do that kabuto puzzle i wont be able to do the puzzle. You won't be able to do the puzzle itself, but talking to the place where it's supposed to be will ask you if you want to solve it and activate everything. I hope you find a way to make it possible to have the puzzle since it was my favorite part of finding unown. Me too.

Okay, I will try to make the other sprites, but it might take some time, because I'm very busy at the moment (school, work, friends...) but I think it will be done in time. Thanks.

I have some story ideas to.

First Celebi: Like in japanese Crystal (get GS Ball in PokeCom Center after E4 then go to Kurt and afterwards to the forest shrine) Mm-hm. Except, with the Global Trade Server being down, something slightly different will cause the ball to arrive...
Legendary Birds: Like in HG/SS (because Red did not catch them in the GS timeline) No. Just no. This is a bad idea. Like somebody else in this thread said, it was like they hadn't moved an inch for three years. So no, you will get them, but not like crappy HGSS did it.

Mewtwo: Also like in HG/SS (for the same reason) See above comment.

Mew: when you catch/defeat Mewtwo you find a "Myterious DNA String" you take it to the fossil researchers (also like HG/SS) and one says that it's from Mew, then he remembers the "Old Sea Chart" they found in one underwater expedition and gives it to you, so that you can find Mew (than it's like in Emerald). Nope. It's already been planned out. I'm also thinking of doing you a better Mewtwo OW so that Mew's isn't bigger than Mewtwo. Thanks, I'll need that.

Ruby: Since Ruby and Red had their adventures at the same time you could put Ruby into the game to, only that he is in the Seviis istead of Mt. Silver, he could have a team oriented on the Hoenn Starters Gardevoir and two others. Maybe. If I do, however, it'll probably be a double battle between the player and Silver against Brendan and May (or you and May against Silver and Brendan, or another arrangement).

Regice: in a new chamber in Ice Path after defeating Ruby Sounds interesting. Come to think of it, I still haven't done much for anything from RSE...

Regirock: in Rock Tunnel after defeating Ruby Makes sense.

Registeel: Somewhere in the Seviis after defeating Ruby But the other two are in Johto, aren't they? How about, maybe, Mt. Mortar?

Lati@s: Roaming Kanto after defeating Ruby No, too much like HGSS. They'll probably still be roaming somewhere, just not Kanto.

Some of what you said is actually what I'd already planned out! But the whole teleportation to Sky Pillar thing, how you find the Emerald, and some other things will be different.

Deoxys: After defeating Ruby you find a strange meteor on Mt. Moon Steven Stone meets you and tells you that something is not right about the rock he than gives you the Aurora ticket, because he thinks there is a connection between Birth island and the meteor. (I can make you a FR/LG Steven Stone sprite too ;) ) Yeah, go ahead and make the sprite, that would be great. But Deoxys will probably not be on Birth Island.

Jirachi: After defeating Ruby and returning to the place he was on the Seviis (It has to be on a mountain) and it's night you find a strange Stone where a writing is carved into which says that you should make a wish which comes from your heart, after answering the wish Jirachi appears (I will try to make sprite for it to) Thanks for the sprite, but I think I just might make the event, whatever it is, happen in a special little place on Mt. Moon...

Hope you like my Ideas for the Legendaries and maybe implement them ;) I like some of them, but the others are not what I had in mind/already planned out.

Ok i just beated the Beta. It was fun but i do hope you have changed the intro since it looked boring to me since nothing was changed. How was nothing changed? Compare it to Emerald's. Also i dont like that you cant name your Rival but i guess you cant program that in. I have in fact, but for Beta 2. Hope Beta 2 comes out soon since im really looking forward to beating Jotho. Cool. One more thing that confuses me is that Jotho is called Tohjo or something which is strange since its suppose to be Jotho. Well, Tohjo is a name that encompasses both regions, since I need to find a way to make the name change when you scroll over the different regions... However this is all in Beta 1 i havent seen any progress pictures of the game yet. If you want some of Beta 2's progress, I have a video somewhere in this thread. Keep up the good work since i dont want this hack to die! Die? Far from it!

@jj_olli
I think it would be good if Mr Fuji had something to do with Mew as he was involved in the whole Mewtwo creation and was apparently the one who put Mew back on Faraway Island Maybe he'll be part of it, but I doubt it... Wait... An idea just came to me! I have to write this down...

I got an idea for Latias and Latios. You get to choose which one to capture (Like in Emerald) and then you search around everywhere in Sevii till Latios/Latias arrives and you get a chance to capture him/her. To capture the other one you will have to find a crystal ball in a cave on Sevii. You hand it over to proffesor Elm and he tells you to visit Oak in Kanto. When you visit Oak he will give you something that allows you to capture Latios/Latias and then you can catch them both. You will have to capture the first one before capturing the second one though to make it more complicated. If the first one faints then you cant capture the second one at all and you have failed the Latias and Latios Event. Btw the crystal ball idea came from the soul douge or whatever its called thingy from Pokemon Heroes The Movie.

For the Title Screen and Intro thing i was talking about i ment the part from when you start the game all the way to title screen without pressing A. Nothing is changed there and i hope you have made a new title screen and intro before title screen that fits Pokemon Crystal.

Btw for the Jotho and Kanto thingy you can try naming it Jonto or something since its JO-tho and ka-NTO together. But i do hope you find a way to make them seperate like you said. Have you tried naming it Jotho Kanto?

For the Title Screen and Intro thing i was talking about i ment the part from when you start the game all the way to title screen without pressing A. Nothing is changed there and i hope you have made a new title screen and intro before title screen that fits Pokemon Crystal. Ah, I see. Well, the part before the intro is pretty much unchangeable except for the images; the animations can't be changed. Even with only the pictures to change, I have no sprites to replace them with.

Btw for the Jotho and Kanto thingy you can try naming it Jonto or something since its JO-tho and ka-NTO together. But what about Tohjo, like I have currently, since it's kan-TO and JOH-to (albeit the h is mixed up) And the connection between Kanto and Johto is called Tohjo Falls, after all... But i do hope you find a way to make them seperate like you said. Have you tried naming it Jotho Kanto? It wouldn't fit in the box provided.
Responses above in bold. Great ideas, although they probably won't be implemented.

If you want i can look for some sprites and change them around a bit to fit. Like changing May on the bike into the male character and change all the pokemons that are there aswell into Jotho pokemons. I can make Torchic be Tododile or something and make flygon be Celebi or something. I will scale the pokemons into what size they are. If i can make this for you then just tell me and ill start working on it right away. I like to help people with stuff that has with sprites or pictures to do with. For the kyogre, groudon and rayquaza part idk what i can do there but as you said its probably unchangable.

If you can, thanks! The legendary trio part can have its images changed too, so maybe you could have Entei for Groudon, Raikou for Kyogre, and Suicune for Rayquaza.
And for the title screen, I was thinking about it being the same idea behind the Emerald screen, except with Suicune looking down at you kind of menacingly. Maybe make its eyes glow like Rayquaza's markings.

ok im gonna start with making Celebi over flygon and then i made Tododile and think of what the 2 other pokemons can be. I can see what i can do with the legendary trio thing with the stuff i have. However everytime i try to edit a image for a pokemon game with a program i get a messed up tile that reminds me of MissingNo D: So you will have to test and edit it by yourself ^^'

*EDIT*

I just wonder if i can make so that when rayquaza is suppose to glow yellow at some spots i instead make suicune a bit visible but also make unown appear around him making it be a bit more like the original intro.

I can make him a umbreon sprite to replace the pokemon that runs beside May in the beginning i can and make him a pichu running and tripping instead of totodile. Thanks for mentioning umbreon. Im gonna make some custom umbreon sprite and make them fit the replacement of the running pokemon beside may in the intro (what is the name of that pokemon?) however the 2 pokemons that are gonna replace groudon and kyogre will still be entei and raikou since diego wanted them to be there.

This hack is absolutely amazing. I've played up to violet city, and I hope to get to the sudowoodo event. I really want to see what you are going to do with this, and I prefer Gen 3 games to Gen 4 games. Only because I think gen 3 feels more real then gen 4 and their bobble-head looking overworlds, also, I like the idea of putting the map in one image, The downside to only being able to use one world map kinda sucks. Ah well. Great hack! I really can't wait until the next beta comes out!!!

Greetings hack experts. I have a suggestion regarding the legendary pokemons. I believe that all legendary pokemon are already coded in the game and instead of overwriting (Entei for Groudon, Raikou for Kyogre, and Suicune for Rayquaza), I think you can just catch them in the wild using gameshark or codebreaker. If I misunderstood this conversation, then by all means correct me. Looking forward to this great hack! Cheers!

You misunderstood our small conversation. The graphics for the intro were the topic of our discussion, because they are not directly linked to the Pokemon data, so those sprites have to be changed, but all data that is directly linked to the Pokemon themselves will remain like in the original Emerald game.

Hi everyone!
Well, I just love this hack.
Los Tiles style FR / LG are great, I've always liked to see Johto with those tiles, the truth, they are very nice maps with those graphics.
As can be seen in the videos and images, maps are pretty well drawn and detailed.
The scripts are great, are not failures and the texts are pretty good.
Indeed, the Video page 6 of the topic, I saw an error in the name of the region map is not Johto Tohjo if ... yes, can look very similar names, but there is a difference between those two places.
The OW's all great, we can see very well with the graphics and I like a lot, especially the Rival OW n_n
Besides the error I said above, I see no fault or anything that is strange.
For a lot of luck with the Hack and prosper :)
I expect more updates and news on the Remake.

Hello.
I've played up until the end of Beta 1. I have a few comments:
Good
-One of the best quality hacks that I have seen/played in quite a while.
-Nice sprite upgrades.
-Sticks to the original game (meaning no added features)
Errors
-Spaces at the top and bottom of the menu.
-Sprite goes funny when I fish.
-Also can’t catch anything (says it got away EVERYTIME).
-Sand leading to rock tunnel and outside Cherrygrove for example is different than other sand (Other sand leaves footprints).

I don't know if some of the things that I pointed out is by design.

-Sand leading to rock tunnel and outside Cherrygrove for example is different than other sand (Other sand leaves footprints).

I don't know if some of the things that I pointed out is by design. The footprints are by design.

Suggestion: Instead of using the small blue roof house, try using one of the tilesets from the islands. The blue roof is just OU ;)

Nah, I'm going to use custom tiles once someone wants to make them for me. XD

Custom tiles for the roof or for everything? I like the original tiles you have in the game atm.

Well, some FR-and-GSC-style custom tiles for Johto. FR's tiles will be used again in Kanto.

Hey everyone! A small update here:
I have finished almost all of Ecruteak City (all events you can access the first time, anyways) and finally got Surf (and Morty's badge) so I could show you my regional map hack I made a while ago:
CD96ROTQzb0
The video doesn't show some things like the Pokédex map and the lighting-up points (as well as the Fly map) but it gets the job done pretty well.

It's nice to finally see a functional PokeGear. Were you not able to fit cerulean cape on the map? At 0:38 the dude kinda flinches ;) Is it possible that we can see some kind of de-capitalization for all the Pokemon and the menu?

Were you not able to fit cerulean cape on the map? Well, it's because my map maker quit on me and I had to do with what I had. It's still on there, you just can't see it right now.
At 0:38 the dude kinda flinches ;) He decided to turn away right as I activated the event.
Is it possible that we can see some kind of de-capitalization for all the Pokemon and the menu? Nope, it wasn't like that in Crystal.

Also, do you have anything to say about the actual feature? XD

The map hack probably took you a while to implement. Other people would probably skip that part and combine the two regions and call it Tohjo :D If I was at your house, I'd give you a high five and then we'd celebrate!

You should probably update the first post, as it has some incorrect information now that you've changed the game a little.

All right, done.
I also updated the Pokémon center animation picture to show that it now runs exactly like its FR counterpart.

Any work on the title screen or possibly the intro video? I have not seen any custom games with their own intro videos.

No work on either of them.
Also, just to clarify, the intro video itself will not be changed, only the sprites and the music for it will be.

At least the music is gonna be different. That's good. I forgot to report some oddities from my last play-through.
1. The dude that shows you how to catch a Pokemon killed the wild Pokemon with his Rattata.
2. The color of the houses is different.

That's an old version, both of those are fixed now.

Ok, so first of all I LOVE this hack. I played it the first day you released it and fell in love. Unfortunately that was way back in like February. So in short I have been waiting a REALLY long time lol. I posted before and I'm not sure if you remember cause it was a while ago but anyway I really hope you make this into a full game like Brown did. Don't give up like most hackers do. They make something decent then make it half a game and I feel jipped. Pokemon Prism Anyone? Ya well anyway keep working on it and I am rooting for you. I would help you out but I'm on a mac and well most map editors and scripting programs don't work. GOOD LUCK and most importantly have fun with this. Crystal was my favorite game too. Oh and can you make the trade evolutions into level evolutions at level 40? at least most of them. Or level evolutions with the respective items. That would be sweet cause I've always wanted to use gengar and Machamp. You could also have it so that there are people in the game that you can trade pokemon with that will give you like a haunter, machoke, Kadabra and then they will evolve into the respective pokemon. Wow I rambled, anyway hope to see this finished soon

Well, it's just a quick update, but I've completed everything up to the Battle Tower and Route 40, including... Headbutt trees!

There wasn't enough room to store all of the Forest types on each Forest map, though, so they were split onto each map group. Don't freak out because you can't catch Hoothoot in Azalea Town. ;)

So you have the basic map done and now you're just adding events? Route 40 is my favorite sea route. Maybe after you complete the game you can add dive loactions to get cool items and stuff ;)

Route 40 is the boring route in between Olivine and Route 41 (which has the Whirl Islands) so maybe you meant Route 41?

Anyways, Route 41 is now also completed. Cianwood City is up next!

Well, lol not bad, but as the remakes I stopped calling attention a while: s
I always see remakes of Pokemon Gold, Pokémon Red, Blue, all of these, but never see one of Pokémon Ruby / Sapphire or Pokémon Leaft Green / Fire Red.

But hey, lol, I wish you luck!

No, this will not have the 4th gen physical/special split. It's not necessary (or even wanted) for a hack that's trying to remake Crystal.

Also, I'm not sure if the released version has this or not, but have I shown you guys the ability to name your rival?
