Ah, same here. Altho, the Homunculi also take the cake for being some of the best characters.

EdxWinry are the best couple.

Altho, I do like the first Greed a little bit better (Just because he looks better XD).
Its a shame he had to die, but at least he died knowing he had friends.

Yeah, he was great :3
It would be weird, but I wish he didn't die... Just like I wish every Homunculus would survive xD

Also, perhaps you'd like to add a spoiler rule or something, say, "everything past this point in the story has to be put in spoilers", or something.

FMA:B is, in my opinion.

The story makes more sense to me, it's way more satisfactory, its re-watching value is way higher. The graphics and the music is way above the 2003 series' level, and the opening and ending sequences still makes me eye/eargasm :P

November 7th, 2010, 05:21 AM
FMA's story is both shorter and... weirder. They go off topic early on, and add things that doesn't make sense, IMO. Just fillers and stuff.

And after a while things start to go really weird,
Rosé gets raped, then becomes a priest, Edward dies, gets resurrected, IS TELEPORTED INTO THE REAL WORLD, TAKING OVER A BODY, fighting nazis, meeting IRL versions of FMA characters, real people are dragged into the story (Hitler), and finally, a big German warship travels to the FMA world, killing people, and Edward, Al, other Al, other Rosé, Roy and other people fight them and the Japanese dragon Envy, who's actually Edward's brother, created by his father and Dante, who's immortal, resulting in Ed and Al living in the real world for the rest of their lives, trying to stop the Atom bomb!

...*pant*, *pant*

Do you get my point? xD;

Is the FMA manga better than FMA:B?

Pokestick, good times.
November 7th, 2010, 05:32 AM
I haven't read much of the manga, so I can't really put them against each others.

FMA:B does actually add fillers, like the first episode, and things are removed, like the island scenes where Ed and Al train when they were kids.

But the manga style is actually kind of weird, it's not very pleasing to the eye.
A friend of mine says that because of the quality, the anime is better. But that's his opinion.

Hey, all! Joined yesterday, but didn't get to post because I suddenly got dragged away like how Ed was taken away into The Gate out of town and then was watching some movies with family. XD

Anways, to answer the second topic of whether I like the original FMA or Brotherhood:

To be honest, both. XD;

For FMA, I like how the Homunculi have backstories on how they're created. Also, some of the characters like Rose, Maria, and Sheska's roles are expanded upon. A couple original characters in there are quite interesting too like the brothers that pretended to be the Elrics and Lujion (the man that fell in love with Lust). There are some weird stuff like Dante and Envy being Ed's brother, though. Also, many characters like Marcoh and Scar died. all of a sudden. >.>

Brotherhood on the other hand have the Briggs and Xing crew, the characters in those two areas very awesome. Also, the Ishval stuff is much better executed in the manga/Brotherhood version. Guess only thing is while I like the Homunculi in Brotherhood/manga, they're pretty much there to do Father's deeds and such.

I managed to watch both Brotherhood and the original FMA through YouTube, so I'm able to watch all the episodes. XD

Actually, Funimation posted the episodes on YouTube. There's a shows section and both anime series are in the animation/cartoons section. All of the subbed ones are there, but the dubbed ones they had first posted all of them, but then the company took them away. :/

And actually guys, there's something we can discuss for a bit.

http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2010-11-14/fullmetal-alchemist/brotherhood-film-teaser-streamed

Recently there's news of a FMA movie that takes place perhaps midway through the manga/Brotherhood. Just today a trailer has been shown:

http://www.hagaren-movie.net/#/?trailer=disp

After looking at the trailer, looks like the events will be unrelated to the manga/Brotherhood, but I'm cool with that. I like to see what other side adventures the Elric brothers will be on. The FMA community in LJ are already hating on the movie, though. D:

(sorry if this is spoilers ;_; )

But FMA is just that epic it will ruin the movie not the movie ruin it. (If that makes sense :/) What should i watch FMA or FMA:B I'm stuck with the decision. Also does anyone know what Fullmetal Alchemist Blind is about it's on anime44.com and i was like wut?

Pokestick, good times.
December 12th, 2010, 02:57 AM
FMA came first and has a different story... FMA:B is longer, newer, has better art, better music, and an awesome plot.

I say you should see FMA first, then FMA:B, as I did.

And I have no idea what Blind would be xD

Jayster23
December 12th, 2010, 03:53 AM
Okay FMA it is. always start with the first.

Yeah i was confused with Blind. :/

December 12th, 2010, 03:55 AM
But I don't know, movies have ruined shows before.
Seconded.

And me neither. I've never heard anything about any 'Blind' which is related to FMA in any way. XD; Oh, and it is a pity that not a single active member of this fan club seems to be having any FMA-based theme. Hypocrite

Jayster23
December 12th, 2010, 04:02 AM
Yeah i was thinking of getting an FMA theme.

Also here's the link for blind http://www.anime44.com/fullmetal-alchemist-blind-alchemist-1

That'd be pretty awesome. I'll be looking forward to it. ;]

And man, how could I have forgotten about THAT? That's actually a 'side-story' sorta thing. It doesn't really concern the story much and is like..OVAs, or something along those lines. It was pretty nice, though. The story of the 'Blind Alchemist', I mean.

Jayster23
December 12th, 2010, 04:41 AM
I'll have to watch that then.

Yeah i just requested a Greed theme.

Pokestick, good times.

Oh yeah, the OVA!

There are several OVAs actually, some are pretty funny.

Jayster23
December 12th, 2010, 04:53 AM
I'm gonna watch some now. Which one's are good?

Hmm... Maybe i'll do that first. I have a lot of catching up to do. But i will finish the manga first i'm up to chapter 88 or something.

Pokestick, good times.
December 12th, 2010, 05:04 AM
All right.

You'll notice the first anime is really different from the manga, even in the first episode :P

Yeah i've watched the Cornello saga Gluttony just ate him.

Wait, there are more OVAs besides that one? Gosh, I wasn't aware of it! I'll head to see them right away (well, not really)!

And uhh, I'm not really sure what topic's goin' on atm over here. OVAs, perhaps?
Wonder when Charizard/Angelito. will be back...

OVAs, huh? The State Alchemist vs. the Homonculi one is pretty cool. There's one Brotherhood OVA I watched which is about Roy's time in the military academy and first time meeting with Maes Hughes. It's a really great one. Other than that, haven't watched any other OVAs. I might watch the Blind Alchemist later today though.

Also, lol you guys probably didn't notice I'm having a Roy Mustang theme going on, although I might need a banner of him instead of "Spark. Flash. Flame." XD

It took me about a month to finish Brotherhood and three weeks to finish the original anime. XD I'm sure you'll be able to catch up, though! :D

Also, looking forward to the Greed theme.

Take your time with the series, you'll enjoy it more that way :)

Omg I am going to start a new topic. Who is your favorite Homonculi?

Mine was envy~

LinGreed was awesome. Love his attitude.

Same here. Greed 1.0 is cool, but Greed 2.0 is so much better, character development wise.

As for first anime, Lust. I thought her characterization is much better in the original anime than in the manga/Brotherhood.

Jayster23
December 17th, 2010, 02:29 AM
My favorite Homonculi is Greed followed by Pride. I don't mind Envy that much either. His ability is pretty awesome.

Thought lust is pretty good too. She's smex.

December 17th, 2010, 04:16 AM
That was one of the most epic scenes in FMA:B. I really loved that part. Not really when he put his hands between her cleavage, though. XD; The way he killed Lust, I mean.

Oh, and talking about Mustang, here's a nice image I found:

Oh, nice Greed theme, Jayster! :D

Hm, while I'm here, I might as well mention this. Adult Swim will be airing Brotherhood again on January 9. (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2010-12-17/adult-swim-to-run-more-fma/brotherhood-on-january-9). Real quick, it's mentioned the third arc of the show (the beginning of Briggs) is scheduled to air. Lol, I don't have cable but Adult Swim's website posts the episodes not long after it aired, so I'll most likely watch them when they're online.

I'm looking forward to see how the dub will handle this. The third arc is actually my favorite after the fifth one--Olivier Armstrong, the Briggs crew, Kimblee, the past in Ishval , what's not to love? :P

Pokestick, good times.
December 30th, 2010, 12:28 PM
I might give that a look :3

All the episodes are already available on YouTube subbed, but it could be cool to see the Briggs arc in English!

So I have about 7 episodes to go until I finish the 2003 series.

..also, isn't Brotherhood just basically the same thing, but following the manga exactly? So there's not many changes, I'd guess. Probably not going to start that until they finish the English Dub, and right now they're only up to about 27 episodes...

Well, they aren't really the same thing. Brotherhood follows the manga storyline, which is actually pretty different from the 2003 anime storyline.

Waiting until they finish the English Dub could take awhile, (if they are only on the 27th episode out of like 64), why not try watching subbed?

I dunno. I find it really disorienting having to focus on subtitles as opposed to the actual actions/speaking taking place. I felt that the English voice actors are pretty good as well, so it would be even more disorienting making the transition from familiar voices to reading text. D:

I watched the Briggs arc already on YouTube (and the rest of the episodes, haha), but really looking forward to how the dub will do the arc also. Want to know how the English voices of Olivier, Miles, and Buccaneer will fare. XD

And DJ Scruffy, yeah I'm like that too, but I'm impatient so I decided to watch the rest of the Brotherhood series subbed. XD I agree that the English voice actors did a great job with the characters.

Jayster23
January 2nd, 2011, 09:24 PM
For once the English voices are good.

I'm going to watch the 2003 series first. Only up to episode 5 at the moment got a lot to do.

Oh you spoiled English speakers who aren't used to a little text~ ;D

Jokes aside, both series are good. But it doesn't take longer than ten episodes for Brotherhood to cover every single part of the 2003 that is canon. So Brotherhood really shows some new stuff in comparison.
And they manage to fix every single plot hole and sum it all up petty well by the last episode, much unlike the 2003 series.

Toshiro.
January 4th, 2011, 03:49 PM
I liked both series, but I think that Brotherhood had much more to offer, since it followed the manga storyline.

I love eye candy. Brotherhood, due to it being an anime which came later, has more of it. Hence, Brotherhood > Original for me.

I'll take your word for it xD

But anyway, I love the graphics, too. The first FMA was really great in that aspect... For their time. But nowadays, we all want clean super advanced computer effects, so we're happy when we get that :3

Bay Alexison
January 5th, 2011, 09:40 AM
I'll agree the graphics for Brotherhood is much better than in first anime. I like the more darker colors being thrown in instead of the tan-ish like colors in there. Also the character designs are more natural and rounded per say in the second anime while the first anime it has its sharpness to it that I'm not feeling too much of. True, the 2003 version is usually how the other animes during around that time are like, but can't help comparing the two FMA animes. XD

Pokestick, good times.
January 5th, 2011, 12:06 PM
Nothing wrong with comparing them.

But if we looked at how anime was back in 2003, FMA was amazing. It still is, if you haven't heard of FMA:B xD

Bay Alexison
January 6th, 2011, 09:44 AM
Oh, I actually quite like the first anime's art too, I just prefer Brotherhood's for many reasons, haha.

I prefer Brotherhood because it's the Manga in anime form and that's the story i know and love.

Yeah, the manga form is just splendid.

They did do a good job in the anime too, though. Taking an unfinished story like that and trying to find a good way to seal all the holes... That's hard.

I agree. The first anime did a good job fixing the holes when the manga was starting and a great story on its own.

And something FMA related...remember the new movie I mentioned a while back? Well, a couple weeks ago it's been announced will come in theaters July 2nd. (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2011-01-01/2011-fullmetal-alchemist-film-opens-july-2-after-festival) Also, apparently there's going to be a FMA festival in late May. O.o Wonder what that's going to be about because this is the first time I'm hearing about an FMA festival. XD;

Pokestick, good times.
January 23rd, 2011, 04:15 AM
FMA festival... O_O

Sounds like there's gonna be a bunch of cosplaying, to say the least.

Jayster23
January 24th, 2011, 05:46 AM
O_O nice.

I wonder how many people are gonna cosplay as Al. That would be annoying if you did that. So hot in a suit of armor for those die hard cosplayers XD

Bay Alexison
January 25th, 2011, 10:52 AM
Yeah, seems that there's going to be a lot of cosplaying involved. If I were to cosplay, I'll probably be either Lan Fan or May because I'm an Asian female, haha.

And Jayster, I would really feel sorry for the people cosplaying Al in the armor suit! XD

Pokestick, good times.

People have always told me to cosplay Ed.

I dunno, I'm similar to him in most ways except I'm so damn tall :/

Jayster23

Lol i just realised Ed wears platform shoes to look taller XD

I'm not a fan of cosplaying but if i did cosplay i would probably go as Mustang :D

Who's death is sadder
Ed or Mase Hudges

Pokestick, good times.
February 28th, 2011, 10:29 AM
Ed doesn't die :/

...WAIT, you mean like that pathetic "death" in the 2003 anime?
If you mean that, then Maes' death was way sadder. Dramatic, it made sense, and it really made you love the character. And it had so much effect on the other characters and the storyline.
