For now, let's work on the concepts we already have, instead of giving more and more ideas. I think we should get at least 1/3 of the concepts we have now sprited before we add more ideas. Thanks!

Hello, and welcome to Project: Communitydex! I'm sure many of you are aware that the Pixel Art section is really inactive. Hopefully, this community project will help reboot the activity here. As hinted in the name, the Communitydex is a project in which you, the members of PokéCommunity, come together, and give ideas, and eventually create, various fake Pokémon sprites to make a fake Pokédex, consisting of work by us, for us.

Don't be worried if you don't think your skills are up to scratch, if you have a concept for a Pokémon you would like to bring forward, then please do so! Hopefully then, one of the more skilled pixellers will take up your ideas and work on it.

No ideas are "stupid" (well, within reason, at least), but if some seem impractical or too similar to pre-existing Pokémon, for example, then please feel free to contribute to the ideas given. Others will be allowed to tweak sprites made by members, but please make sure you try to stick to the original design as much as possible.

We aren't going to follow any 'rules,' per se, however if you feel we need to keep the tradition of, for example, a 3-stage bug evolutionary line, then feel free to contribute. However, it would be logical to stick to having starter Pokémon and region legendaries, though I'm not totally sure about the latter idea, anyway.

I suppose this is enough for the introduction, onto the Pokédex so far...[/css-div][css-div="text-align: center; padding: 5px; border: 1px #000 dashed; background: #fff; border-top: 0;"][css-div="text-align:left;"]The Pokédex:

It has a blue marking on each of it's four stout, stubby little legs. It has a jagged razor blade as a tail, but one side of it is stuck to it's rear/back part of it's body, leaving just the blade sticking out, giving Blaydyte the inability to swish it's tail. Blaydyte has a small blunt horn on it's forehead, used for shaving off treebark, it's staple diet. Blaydyte then sits on the treebark to cut it into bite-sized pieces. All of Blaydyte's attacks are attack based, and are carried out with its bladetail, so it looks really wierd, as the opponent sees the rear end of the pokemon flying at them. It's horn is unsuitable for combat. One thing is sure: You don't want this pokemon sitting on you.

Hmmm...
Just to get this started, how about:
Name: Jp: 球ドル Tamadoru En: Chanpuff
Type/s: Um... Probably part normal, maybe water too?
Pokédex entry:
Jp:
球ドル、それは女性で、特に非常に大規模なファンベースを持っていますからサンプルにヌードルバーを探して、町を歩きまわる。
Tamadoru walks around towns, looking for noodle bars to sample from, It has a very large fan base, especially with females.

It has an extremely large fanbase, mostly females, due to it's cuteness.
Abilities: Guts, Cuteness (foe is infatuated for the first turn). Dream world: Super Luck

Tamadoru means sphere [noo]dle
I imagine it as a kind of sphere with arms and legs, that's cute and holds a bowl of noodles.
I suspect it would learn boiling water at some point :p.

EDIT:
I made a semi good chanpuff sprite, needs improvement *hint*

I've added the description to the first post, but I think the design as it is for now is slightly plain. Perhaps we could make the bowl part of it's body? Perhaps it rests on it's head? Also, I think pink is a slightly overdone colour for puffballs (Clefairy, Jigglypuff, Ditto [to an extent]). Perhaps red? Also, I think a pattern of some sort would be nice. Maybe blue spots or something?

I rox sux at scratching, so don't expect many sprites to come from me. However, expect lots of awesome ideas from me.

What about a season-changing pokemon based on an snake? Forms for the sprites coming soon.

Spring form: It would be mostly green, with a pink bud on its tail. It would have pink spots on its body. This form would be Grass Type.

Summer form: It would be mostly yellow, with a red sunflower-like flowerhead on its tail. It would have red spots on its body. This form would be Fire Type.

Autumn form: It would be mostly brown, with a brown autumn leaf on its tail. It would have dull yellow spots on its body. This form would be Ground Type.

Winter form: It would be mostly white, with a snowball on its tail. It would have black spots on its body. This form would be Ice Type.

And the name could be Snakeason? /failname

Oops, mine are 80x80.
Anyway, I made a few edits, and there are now four versions,
Pick which one you like.
http://i51.tinypic.com/kcjjav.png
The mark on its chest is Tama (球) meaning sphere, and is the first part of it's jp name.
It does need editing/respriting by a better spriter though.
It's shiny would be pink with a green bowl, and if it had a B/W animation, it would simply bob, and occasionally either pick up and/or drink from it's bowl.

Well, I guess I could submit some of my ideas to the project... Unfortunately, my imagination is faster than my spriting, and I'm never satisfied with what I make, so ideas keep piling up. Do you mind if I don't use the preset form? For a lot of them, all I have are basic ideas; as it's a community project, whoever picks them up can decide the PokeDex entry and such. For some of them, I have quickly-doodled concept art or half-finished sprites.

~~Snakeason~~
Type: Depends on the season.
Abilities: Intimidate/ Arena Trap
Dream World: Not found in Dream World.
Snakeason changes types when the seasons change. It is a hostile Pokemon, and it lives in rainforests.

Appearance
Spring form: It would be mostly green, with a pink bud on its tail. It would have pink spots on its body. This form would be Grass Type.

Summer form: It would be mostly yellow, with a red sunflower-like flowerhead on its tail. It would have red spots on its body. This form would be Fire Type.

Autumn form: It would be mostly brown, with a brown autumn leaf on its tail. It would have dull yellow spots on its body. This form would be Ground Type.

Winter form: It would be mostly white, with a snowball on its tail. It would have black spots on its body. This form would be Ice Type.

http://i54.tinypic.com/5tvs7p.png

I call it Kolibloom (from kolibri which means hummingbird in several languages), though I admit it's rather large looking for such a small variety of bird. I suppose it could be the evolved form. And I'm not quite sure how it could be a fossil (since fossils are always part rock) so I didn't try to incorporate that aspect. Anyway, if anyone's got ideas for ways to improve it they'd be welcome.

All added! :3

I tried to redo it slightly:

Neat! :D

Yeah, it is kind of big, so it would be best as an evolution. Regarding fossils being rock-type, well, not only hard-bodied creatures are fossilized. All of the fossil Pokemon we've seen so far are Rock-type, so either they're all originally that type (in which case we're overdue for a deviation) or the reanimation process is imperfect, leaving rock aspects of their fossilized forms intact... in which case we need better technology. In either case, I think it's about time for some non-Rock fossil Pokemon. :D

But, Yeti crab?
Couldn't that maybe be Ice type?
Anyways, I have two ideas, not very fleshed out though.

Name: ???
Description: A kind of suit of armour, made of Ice, in a humanoid shape, carrying a sword.
The armor looks a tiny bit like the top plates on daikenki's armour.

Name: ???
Description: A horse with a suit of armour on it, the armor is grown as a defensive mechanism, to convince people that it has a trainer.
The armour is made of grey melanin.

What do you think?

So, since both fossil pokes are part grass type, I though of something,
the fossil is not rock, but petrified wood.
Sound good?

Chesu
December 31st, 2010, 12:52 AM
You mean that the Pokemon themselves become petrified wood? That's an interesting idea... I went with the "hummingbird as a fossil" idea because you always hear about large insects and small lizards getting caught in amber, but never birds. Bird FEATHERS, sure, but never whole birds. So, I decided that to make it work, it'd have to be the tiniest of birds! :D

Petrified wood is an intriguing concept, though... What's the other Grass-type fossil you're referring to? Also, I've suggested too many bugs already, but has there been a mosquito Pokemon yet?

~Wind~

I meant the grass T-rex that has a head-dress for some reason...
But then I realised that was 3 stage.
So we can eith get rid of a stage, or make another fossil pokemon.
I like the idea of a giant grass/bug mosquito...

edit: To counter the torrent of old animal-based ideas I've rained upon the project, here are some new inanimate object-based ideas! Which is to say, here are some more ideas, which must be annoying by now.

Name: Umbra (I think it's a clever name, anyway)
Type: Dark
Description: A karakasa (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kasa-obake), Pokemon-style.

Name: Undecided
Type: Psychic
Description: The innermost of a set of Matryoshkas (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matroyska_doll), resembling an egg or a small animal. Or maybe just a normal doll. In any case, it has to adhere to a shape that can fit within the others.

Name: Undecided
Type: Psychic
Description: The middle of the set, big enough to encapsulate the innermost, small enough to fit inside the outermost.

Name: Undecided
Type: Psychic
Description: The outermost of the set, which can break the normal matryoshka shape since it doesn't have to fit inside anything. Maybe the middle one has horns that stick out through holes in this one or something.

Name: Lounaul
Type/s: Ghost/Dark
Pokédex Entry: Lone Pokemon
Pokedex Entry: It is wandering through the night sky flying with huge speed swiftly on its weird crest that is said to be a piece of the moon. There are many folk tales which say it is a ghost of a poor, lonely man wandering around the world.
Description: A soul flying on a crest resembling a lunar one.
It's blue and has yellow,"evil" eyes. It looks like a long beard.
Ability/ies:Inner Focus or Own Tempo

Name: Permask
Type/s: Water
Pokedex entry: It lives in cold seas. It often emits sound waves
in the water, they sound like it's screaming from pain.
Ablility/ies: Soundproof
Description: A boomerang-like thing with a sad face. It's blue, the ends of the "boomerang"
are dark green.
Evolves into:

Name: Tanlare
Type/s: Water/Dark
Pokedex entry: It lives at the bottom of the sea. When someone
comes up,it jumps on it and tries to bite it.
Ablility/ies: Intimidate or Pressure
Description: A blue theatral mask with huge fangs. It has holes in its body, and green tentacles grow out them.

Name: Chicari
Type/s: Normal/Flying
Pokedex entry: Despite its tiny appearence,it can rule storms, gusts and cyclones.
It possesses high ablities in tracking the opponent.
Ablility/ies: Speed Boost
Description: A bird made of blue clouds. It has large, green eyes,a small beak, and stubby legs. It has a cute, innocent expression.

Anyway, I've arranged all of the sprites/ideas into spoilers corresponding to the user who submitted them. If, however, it was a joint effort, then it will, funnily enough, go in the Joint Efforts spoiler n_n.

@SphericalIce:
I liked your sprite so much I couldn't throw it away, so I decided to give Chanpuff a prevo.
Unamed, the soup Pokemon.
What do you think?

Also on a final note, is the T-Rex a fossil poke or not?
If not, I think the other should be a grass/bug Dragonfly/Mosquito.

Okay, ~Wind~, I'm going to be honest, your sprite is not too good, I'm afraid. It's far too large and lacks any kind of design. It's just a huge, blue circle. Even sprites with more detail, such as Jigglypuff, Cleffa and even Clefable are smaller...MUCH smaller than your sprite. The bowl is too small to be an obvious feature of the design and using a text tool in pixel art is not good at all. It may seem egotistic, but I think my sprite is better, only because it is more compacted, however it still is very plain, and this fakemon NEEDS some sort of design. Right now it is, frankly, a blue ball with a red bowl on it's head :/ Maybe some kind of pattern, perhaps a wavy yellow pattern around the face, representing noodles or something? Don't take this the wrong way, I'm not insulting you and not trying to be mean, but I'm afraid your sprite needs a bit of work n_n'

Checub (cheetah + cub) make a better name if you want to
electric type
Description: Cheetah cub that is yellow and has black spots all around its body, has one stripe running across it's side that looks like lightning.
ability: volt absorb
Chetair (cheetah + tear)
electric type
Description: full grown cheetah that has multiple black spots and a couple of stripes that look like lighting.

Oh and no, the T.Rex is not the fossil, let's make it the pseudo-legendary :3

ok.
It is supposed to be biggish though.
About the size of a charmander.

The thing about the plain design is that it is part normal type, and normals are generically plain.
I will keep editing it though.

Also, more indepth on Wimpike, I think it should be the magikarp or feebas of this dex.. Like it's pathetic now, it evolves, big bang, look, now it PWNs everyone. I dunno, maybe it should evolve into a giant maniacal fish. I'll get onto that ;).

Yeah, the cheetah looks awesome. I cant wait for the evo. For the fur, maybe you should attempt a tanner, but still yellow color, and include more jagged and rough shading.., Sorta like dithering, but dithering in shapes... Gah I dunno how to explain it.

And SI, I dont see how to make Wimpike bigger, as pikes are meant to be narrow, and I think that making wimpike bigger would de-pike and de-wimp it. But agin this is IMO, and other people can do what they can to make it better, because I'm no the best of spriters :).

No, not the actual Pokémon, just "zoom" the sprite so we can see more of it. Proportionately resize it to around Magikarp size is what I meant (no, I don't mean select and resize).

http://i55.tinypic.com/2i7pu6q.png
I think this is as close to a yeti crab as we're going to get. Personally, I like it, and, even though yeti crabs don't have tails, I think this tail emphasises the electric type. Do you guys think this guy's ready for the final ideas section?

Also, I think he's too small - do you think he warrants an evolution?

I love this one. And yes, yetolt does deserve an evolution, i've even made a concept:

Name: Wattacrab
Type: Electric
Abilities: Early Bird
Pokedex: A large yeticrab that can stand on it's legs; it's humanoid. It has a tough shell on it's back, giving it the resemblance of a giant beetle. It's pincers are so sharp, they can dent steel and release 500 watts of electricity. It's electricity is stored in it's fur. It looks like it's prevo, yetolt, except it's black tail is now thicker. It's name is a play on words: Wattacrab and What a crab.

And i'll get on to the new wimpike.

What? You can make alternate evolutions if you want, but it seems kind of rude to just hijack the concept and make it whatever you want. Wimpike is my idea of a Magikarp-esque line, evolving into Tiamoor, a water serpent. It's halfway between Gyarados and Milotic; not an enraged beast, not a serene beauty queen, but somewhere in the middle.

I do like the idea of a monstrous, gargantuan fish, though. You should take the idea and make something original with it.... Maybe an eel, or some prehistoric mega-fish?

Oh, Im sorry, I didn't know that wimpike evolved into Tiamoor. It never said in it's description... So that's what ~Wind~ was talking about. Im sorry. So, Chesu maybe you and I can make it so that when wimpike's beauty condition and attack stat are high, it evolves into Tiamoor, and when it's strength condition (Is that a condition) and defense stat are high, it evolves into swampike. What do you say? Spherical Ice, if Chesu accepts, can you update that? And, yes, I'm fine with yetrocute, I also thought that wattacrab was kinda wierd. Perhaps if defense is high, it evolves into Swampike, and if attack is high it evolves into Tiamoor at, say, Level 36? I think that's a good idea (sort of expanding on your idea, Nimble)?

I have an idea for a Normal/Electric family, with a yellow/orange/black color scheme.

1st stage: Hamstatic, the Hamster Pokemon. Basically looks like a Hamtaro type hamster that stands on its hind legs with electric pouches on its cheeks and teeth sticking out, kind of like a rabbit.

2nd stage: Chincharge, the Chinchilla Pokemon. Sort of like Raichu in appearance, standing on hind legs, larger electric pouches and teeth, lighting bolt-type shapes coming off the tips of the large ears, with a long tail that has a tuft of fur on the end.

I came up with this for my hack I have under wraps, but I've suddenly become too busy to sprite and these are not dimensions I'm familiar with. ^_^;

It'd be cool if one of the better spriters could take a crack at it.

Seems very pikachu family-like. I dunno, but the color scheme seems wierd o.0.

Well, Ice, it can't hurt for one more eh?

Name: Blaydyte
Bladetail pokemon
Abilities: Guts
Type: Steel
Pokedex: It is a small yellow creature with no distinguishable head. It's skin is so tough only a diamond cutter can penetrate it. Blaydyte has a blue line running all the way down it's back, forming into an arrow between it's eyes (If you ever watched Avatar: The last airbender when you were little, it looks like aang's arrow).

What do you mean by 'straighten out the body'? If you tell me, I'll do it myself. (Sorry, I don't want to do a collab with anyone. So I can display it in my thread.)

His body and face look unnatural. Make the lines straighter.

New idea brought to this page...

It is kind of big. Regarding the color, purple and orange play well together; maybe use the orange version, but make the orange stripe on the head and the spots purple?

The Beetle feels too large in my opinion. I think it's design could be better fit for the size similar to Denchura's.

There should also be a list of things the we need and don't need. For example, I think there hasn't been a single Fighting-type suggested, while grass and water are in surplus (sorry about that). I mean, this project will probably be going for a pretty long time, there's no rush, and even if it ends up with seventy Grass-types only the best will be chosen for the final index... but having a direction to launch from always helps.

Also, did I imagine it, or did someone of authority say that we had enough spriteless ideas (sorry again) for now?

I see pistol shrimp and narwhal. This is gonna be epic.

GAUSSRIMP ("Gauss"+"Shrimp")
Water/Electric
Guts/Sniper/Sheer Force

Dex Entry
It stores up energy on its bent arms. When releasing a strike with its arms, it releases shockwaves that could stun a larger Pokemon. Their small size makes them easily underestimated, though.

Written Description
A gray-ish blue lobster with blue-colored arms and pincers. Its arms are bent back, forming a makeshift held-back club. Its legs are also blue.

NARLBARD ("Narwhal"+"Halberd". I know it sucked big time)
Water/Steel
*No idea for abilities*

Dex Entry
It is usually docile. But the males become wilder and more competitive in mating seasons. Many fishing ships have been destroyed by NARLBARD during mating seasons. This is due to their bad eyesight.

Written Description
Armored whale with a... halberd-thingy... on its lower maw. The non-covered parts are blue, and the armor pieces are light gray.

Hope that helps. :)

I like the noodle ones, except that the noodles blend into easily with the blue. How about it becomes a lighter color?
Perhaps. Anyway, I think for now we should pay some attention to concepts other than just Chanpuff. :/
OK, so, more info on the platypus Pokemon!
Lineart: http://www.pokecommunity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=58369&stc=1&d=1293893981
Name: Perripus
Species: Secret Agent Pokemon.
Type/s: Water/Fighting
Pokédex Entry: Perripus is a secret agent, but he likes to laze around in ponds in his spare time. He seems to like wearing brown fedoras.
Ability/ies: Quick Feet/Intimidate
Gender Ratio: 100% male, 0% female.

Yes, it is a WIP, but I want to be the one to finish it so I can display it in my wonderful gallery of cool sprites Failmon instead of my suckish pillowshade flower whose name I am not going to mention. So, no touchy~

Also, the colours are there to remind me what part is what.

And yes, Perry the Platypus is from Phineas and Ferb.Um...I'm not so sure about having a Perry the Platypus Pokémon. :/ It's just a copied idea. Perhaps we could come up with a different idea for a platypus Pokémon?

>And yes, Perry the Platypus is from Phineas and Ferb.

OH GOD NO JESUS SAVE ME

How about a bowl of rice? Using shades of grey and white could do it. Also since not many colours have been used on this one. (Dunno how rice will look like in the shiny version though lol)Well, as ~Wind~ said (V) it's the noodle Pokémon. Perhaps there could be an "opposing" Pokémon based around rice. Though that's for later, as we're PACKED with ideas and are lacking sprites.

Yeah, except it's the noodle pokemon.
I like both versions, the noodles are good.
But then i thought of something, maybe the noodles could be part of the female version?
or maybe just smaller noodles on females?
I think we're overthinking Chanpuff. :/
When I saw platypus on the list of things to do, I just had to do a Perry the Platypus sprite.

And here it is, with the palette!
http://www.pokecommunity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=58370&stc=1&d=1293898100
I think it's a bit meh-ish, though. Yeah...but like I said, I'm not so sure about the idea as a whole. :/

I like the one without noodles best, after all, it is part normal type, and jigglypuff (which everyone seems to be likening it to) only has its tuft of hair.

What do you mean by 'straighten out the body'? If you tell me, I'll do it myself. (Sorry, I don't want to do a collab with anyone. So I can display it in my thread.)Um, the whole idea of this thread is to work together. :/

Winter and Spring versions of Snakeason. I'll work on the other two and edit these to look less... horrible, after I've done more research on B/W shading and colors. I just don't get the outlining methods at all.

Also, Summer and Autumn will look more intimidating; a cold snake is a listless snake, and I didn't really have any ideas for the Spring version's expression.
Heh, it looks bored. Mebbe give it large fangs and an angled head to make it hostile.

Heh, it looks bored. Mebbe give it large fangs and an angled head to make it hostile.

I'm not trying to make either of these look hostile; snakes usually hibernate in the winter, so a snake that's active during the winter would be understandably pathetic. The Spring version isn't up to full power, as its flower hasn't blossomed, so I was trying to reflect that. Have it protecting its tail, etc.

I have been thinking about fangs, though. Maybe small ones for Spring, large ones for Summer, moderate ones for Autumn. I also wanted each one to have an interesting feature other than the color scheme and tail, but I haven't thought of what it could be yet. I'm far from done, in any case, and I'm going to fix the Spring version's too-light-too-soft colors after looking into B/W sprites some more.

The next evolutions are meant to have bamboo staffs. Also it's Pokemon so it doesn't necessarily have to have the exact characteristics of the real animal e.g. Sea Horses don't breathe fire. xD

Anyways, refer to the first page of the thread for more info on this Poke. I believe it's under Karpman's suggested idea bit.

As a rule of thumb, sprites in the Gen V style use a black and darker outline colours in greater amounts. The general outline colouring and shading in general also differs from Gen IV style. Often there's less use of shading in general.

Even though i'm not a creator, even though they are pretty nice designs, they are also too large. Compare them with size of other sprites.
It's around the size of Reshiram,Zekrom or Kyurem, and its tangled up,making it even bigger than Wailord when "unknotted".

It's not 'tangled up', it's coiled. XD

I don't know why, but the idea of a tangled up snake is hilarious. Anyway, that's the only snake pose that won't make it look like an existing Pokemon, as it hasn't been used since the original games. In regard to the size, it takes up about the same space as tnguye3's Swampike. Uncoiled, my Snakeason WOULD be longer than Wailord's sprite, but that doesn't mean anything; Wailord is forty-seven feet long, while Azurill is eight inches tall.

http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/3/36/Spr_5b_298.pnghttp://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/c/ce/Spr_5b_321.png

Pokemon come in such different sizes that it would be impossible to accurately depict with sprites like these. I would say that my Snakeason is around thirty feet long, which is how big the type of snake I based it on gets. If anyone thinks its too big for a standalone species, they can make a baby form or something.

IMO the sprites are good, just that the dithering on bunpaw's belly seems awkward (as in not curved enough) and the shading on Jackapaw's left leg (our right) makes his leg look weird as in bent in the wrong way.

Other than that it looks great. :)

http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/8841/great.png

I tried revamping my gsc sprites. The Wombat's evo (prehistoric wombat called Diprotodon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diprotodon))
And the two Kangeroo-Lemurs or whatever I was going for at the time. I need a little help with shading.

Name Diprokun, Fisey, and Flaroo (I know they suck...)

I also think this hasn't been given enough attention? These are realy good IMO.

I'd say it needs more of a black outline. I personally would also prefer a more vibrant palette, but it's not a necessity.

Chesu
January 4th, 2011, 04:14 PM
The palette's not final, though I want to keep it kind of subdued since the Summer form will be bright. Then again, bright green and pink wouldn't be unusual for a rain forest snake. I'll try a few different palettes when I resume work on that one. More black outline, though? Where, up the back?

On the inside of the coil and the right side of the sprite, and I'd try experimenting with black outlines on the coils towards the front of the sprite. I'm not sure exactly what would look good and fit with the style, I haven't really looked at the fifth gen sprites much, but that's what I would imagine from looking a the others descriptions of the style.

Chesu
January 4th, 2011, 04:45 PM
I'm doing different head and tail positions for each version... The winter one's head is already rested on the coils, and the autumn's is coiled down and positioned right above them. I made it large on purpose, as that's the direction Scarf and tnguye are going, but I didn't realize just how big I made it; it happens to be exactly the same height as Zekrom. Though, that's only the spring form, the others are all smaller. I might shave some off the neck if I really need to.

It probably is big enough to warrant a "pre-evolution" (I hate that term), though.

These are quite, quite, quite good. The final stage in particular. You used some very nice greens. Actually, I think that's what makes them so interesting, that you didn't overuse orange. The first one looks great, too, but I can't help seeing a carrot-shaped Diglett in it so it looks like a carrot coming out of the ground upside down.

i agree... but i generally feel that something more can be done with the carrot concept.

i'd like to think of that carrot line as some equivalent of Bellsprout and evos, but even Bellsprout has some unique qualities to it that makes it well regarded even though it is typically a vine connected to a bell.

I think that it needs to be smaller. A lot actually. The BW sprites have 96x96 so i don't think it would be wise to be bigger then that.

It's really good! :)
You should just work on the lower fluke and make it more curvy.

Oh and...dam you were first! xD
Oh well. I'm gonna make an evo form.

Whoa, sick. I decided to work with the carrot, so i cut it's tip off to suggest second stageness... Maybe make the final stage bigger?

http://i52.tinypic.com/2r7vjpf.png

And concept:

Name: ???
Type: Grass
Blunt Carrot Pokemon
Pokedex: It is an overgrown carrot, but it has it's tip cut off. It sticks it's leaf-arms into the soil to absorb nutrients from the ground. The leaf-arms can also be used for combat.

tnguye3
January 8th, 2011, 01:44 PM
I was hoping you'd resize the whole sprite instead of just the orange bit. xD
Like, instead of just chopping the tip, you could resize the orange bit so that it has the same size as the final stage carrot.
The leaves on the head you could leave, but the feet leaves should also be shortened.
Or you could resize the whole sprite using a program and then redraw the sprite since it'll be all pixelated. That's what I intended to do but well, I'm a lazy guy. xD

In any case, I can't make the final stage carrot bigger, only wider. xD The height of the final stage is 96 pixels tall already. xDDD

Yeah, well I'm lazy as well.... I was suggesting that it was nearly full grown, except it had a flaw... And yeah, the final should be wider.

I was thinking you could make the root wider and more bulbous. Look here (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/9/9e/CarrotDiversityLg.jpg). Not all carrots are long and thin and since we're not really going for realism we can exaggerate as much as we need to. I could take a stab at it, making it smaller and all.

It's Pokemon. They're all weird. ;)

Anyways nuff with those jokes and stuff.
Yeah I geuss my palette is too bright or something.

Some Pokemon that evolve have their palettes change for instance Charmander is orange and Charmeleon is red.

The Gen 1 Pokemon which evolve into Steel types also have a really different color (Scizor is completely ketchup lol) such as Steelix, becoming more "blue-er".

Also Golbat's evolution looks really different compared to Zubat -> Golbat, where the blue big bat evolves into a smaller purple bat with 4 wings.

Anyways that was just a long excuse. I seriously think that my palette doesn't match with Pokette's style. xD
Maybe someone should darken it or something.

EDIT: Maybe my palette is too bright AND I have too many dark and black lines? O_O

http://i55.tinypic.com/o0cas9.png
The angle of the body and the leaves on top don't match anymore, but I thought that giving it some kind of underside view would be a nice change. Also, I thought it could have a kind of mask made from the rings around the body. This version doesn't quite have that yet, but it has a more sinister look to it, I think.

Oh the tail's nicely fixed! :)
In any case I think the palettes should SLIGHTLY vary or something, cause when Pokemon evolve their colors become slightly brigher or darker e.g. Piplup -> Empoleon where Empoleon is a darker.

Cause right now my form looks like he's sea sick cause his current palette has too little difference against the color of his steal horn.xD
I honestly think the colors should vary a bit.

This project is rather handy for the entire community if I do say so myself and some people do seem to be getting involved.

Rather unforetunately, I have no real spriting skills but I have a rather hilarious (if I do say so myself) concept to share.
I don't expect it to be picked up by anyone and worked on but basically:

Basically, it is a fighting/grass hybrid vegetable Pokemon:
Name: Beatroot
Species: Beetroot Pokemon
Type: Fighting / Grass
Height: *Subject to whatever you want it to be*
Weight: *Relatively light, it is a vegetable after all. ;D*
Evolutionary Line: None

Basic starter moves would be Pound and Leer and then it would gain more fighting and of course, grass attacks as it levels.

That's all I really have. Hope you guys like it.

Winged sharks. That's a great idea, but I think an additional evolution would be better. The second one is weird, it looks like it could have an evolution, but it also looks like it could stand alone as is.To be honest, I was going to make an evoltuion but i'm out of concept ideas. ):
Maybe make it slightly bigger, standing of two feel, teeth and then giving it hands (sorta like charizards)hmm well i'm thinking the natural evolution for that line is a large, jet-like shark. more fins on top, longer wings, etc.

do a google image search for "shamu plane".

also, i think you should do some palette changes to the first stage. the basic and first have identical palettes. change it up a bit.I like the shark plane idea, but if you want something else to think about you could always try an idea based around one of those big-mouthed sharks (http://stopsharkfinning.sandshack.org/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/basking-shark-pic.jpg). The mouth sort of looks like a jet turbine. That might be too silly though.Or you could extend the red into a big solid "mask" or helmet-type thing, with hammerhead-esque projections.
Okay, here's an amalgamation of your guys' ideas together:

Just stopping by to say that you guys are doing great with the sprites and the concepts.
I especially like Bambear and the Carrots. I guess this post would be meaningless if I didn't give an idea:

Name: Cauldrunt
Type: Poison/Steel
Description: A small, gray cauldron, containing green sludge, it has a mischevous look on it's face.Sorry, but let's work on the sprites for now, mk?

Today when I was looking at the basic ideas for pokemon I saw "Narwhal". Since Narwhals are my favorite animal I created an outline for a narhwal pokemon. The oultline still needs quite a bit of work. Anyone can do something with this I don't really care. Anyway here it is....

http://i1177.photobucket.com/albums/x342/Ragnia21/NewNArwhalPokeNotComplete.jpg

I think that it needs to be smaller. A lot actually. The BW sprites have 96x96 so i don't think it would be wise to be bigger then that.

Heres my take on the narwhal, i just threw it together the fins look bad plus shading
http://img35.imageshack.us/img35/4759/narwald.pngHere's Narwhal's evolution form. Steel/Water type. ^^

http://www.pokecommunity.com/picture.php?albumid=6557&pictureid=51310

I edited the Basic Fakemon with the colours of the 1st Evo and i really think it got better.

I made 2 version. 1 wise the horned also edited and another with the horn with it's original colours.

What do you think

http://g.imagehost.org/0916/Sem_t_tulo.png

Here is the evo btw http://www.pokecommunity.com/picture.php?albumid=6557&pictureid=51310

EDIT: I'm not saying that it doesn't need more work. Because the only thing i did was change the colours but i think it looks kinda better. IDKheres my take on the narwhal again
http://img375.imageshack.us/img375/7725/narwal.png
I added small changes made the eyes different

It's getting better. But i fell like the 1st evo should be the final. They look really different and i think that another evo in the middle of both should do it. Because the starter is kinda fat and small but then the 1st evo is big and think. That's just my opinium

Anyways you've done a really good job with your Narwhal it looks great! :)

On second thought, how about try making the horn of my Narwhal yellow like your horn? O.o

A yellow horn on the 1st evo i think it would look ugly =/

Ooookay, I originally wasn't going to add it, but seeing as you've all worked really hard, I've added it as:

http://img375.imageshack.us/img375/7725/narwal.png
Name: Undecided
Type: Water
Description: See Left.

http://img375.imageshack.us/img375/7725/narwal.png
Name: Undecided
Types: Water/Steel
Description: See Right.

Here's a concept of mine if you guys would like to use it. Hadn't really worked out a name or a type :/.

[link] (http://redbaron474.deviantart.com/#/d35b8e1)

Sure, i'll try that. It looks easy...Let's not, eh? How about you guys check the first post's section, "Proposed ideas [without sprites]", and work on them instead?

Hope you guys like it.I appreciate the effort, etc., but as I've said, let's focus on concepts we've already got for now, instead.

I decided to go ahead and give names and PokeDex entries to all of my concepts, and retract (at least for now) a few of them. I'd also like to propose a way to clean up the first post a little; instead of multiple spoilers, just have one for each section, and make Concept/Sprite one of the things listed for each Fakemon. You'll see what I mean below.

It seems like everyone is saying "I know we shouldn't submit ideas, but..."

Can we PLEASE NOT SUBMIT ANYMORE IDEAS. Just work on sprites. This is a spriting project, so let's focus on what we've got already. It makes all of our live's easier. :/

Anyway, I'm going to add all those I haven't now. Wish me luck.

Well, if we didn't have a fire starter, what would the trainers start with?

Anyway, if I make a sprite of it, will it get accepted as a WIP? That is, when I make the sprite.

Also, I'll work on Cosmite (the comet that evolves into Solrock/Lunatone).

There's plenty of room for the starter and its evolutions. But we just need to focus on the sprites rather than piles of ideas & descriptions.

Oho, that's interesting... I think it looks a little too much like the original Pokemon, though.
Regarding the fire, have you tried a comet-like tail? That's what my original concept "art" of it has.

What I find a little difficult about this fakemon (aside from the fact that it's made to be part of an evolution chain with official pokemon and as far as I know our 'dex is only for fakemon) is that, aside from the comet-y tail, it's too much of a fusion of Solrock and Lunatone. Its design could have elements of those two, yeah, but it needs something unique to it, which could be a shape or color or details (mouth, ears, wings, limbs, etc.) or even just the 'tone' of the fakemon (it's got a kind of neutral expression, just like Solrock/Lunatone - not that it can't, but it doesn't have to)

As far as the spriting work, I think it would look better to have the spike bits more lined up with the tail as if they're trailing behind.

But yeah. Are we not even using this idea anymore?

Spherical Ice
January 11th, 2011, 10:38 AM
Well, Chesu said he doesn't want to use the concept anymore, so I guess we shouldn't prioritize it, at the least. Still, blackmoonflower has worked hard on it, so I feel it would be unfair to just discard it.

But yeah. Are we not even using this idea anymore?

Like most of the ideas I submitted, Cosmite is part of the "Fakedex" I've been building for the last ten years. I submitted it because on its own it wouldn't be apparent that it's related to Lunatone and Solrock, but anyone who decided to use it in a game could use it as such. I decided to retract it because it was one of the less interesting ideas, and Ice set that 1/3 rule.

As you said, Moon's depiction looks exactly like a small fusion of Lunatone and Solrock; above is my original Cosmite conceptual doodle. I didn't include these for most of my ideas so that people would be able to use their own designs.

COULD WE WORK ON THE IDEAS ON THE FIRST POST. PLEASE.

Told you to put the notice higher! :D

A more visible notice should prevent people from posting new ideas, so spriters will be working on what we already have.

What the hell did I just draw.

Despite not looking like what I consider to be a Pokemon, I like it! It fits in with some of the Dragon Quest-ish new Pokemon.

I think he escaped from a Final Fantasy sketchbook.

The idea itself wasn't that great. But i really think you did a good job. I really like it.

Updating a sprite I started a little bit ago.

I'm not sure what kind of typing or whatnot it's supposed to be so I left the color alone and didn't add any other details except the headdress. Not that I think it needs more detail since it's probably small enough.

I was thinking more alongs the lines of:

I really just came up with him while thinking about how there's no real humanoid ice pokemon, not like sneasel and weavile, more like lucario, gallade, gardevoir, mewtwo (a bit) so this popped up.
But I like your one too, it seems like maybe they could be rivals or something.
(btw there's a body inside the armour)

Yeah, but I still think Narwhal (evo) should still be somewhat brighter to match with the color of the horn (Like in the linees of Empoleon's yellow beak-crown) cause right now the palette seems really dull. ^^"

Woaaah, that's one awesome sprite. Although it doesn't look like a Pokemon, it would be great for RPG Maker...lol. xD

I agree, wind's sprite looks to complicated, and T100MS looks pro. And wind, that pose is kinda wierd.

Tnguye, i see what you mean. Ill change it later. Do you mean blaydyte yellow?

Yay first post, ive stalked here since the start :P
Personly Scarf, as all 3 evolutions have the head dress, I think it should evolve to like
Basic: A feather or few
1st: Grows more, fits the evo.
You get the point I guess xD.

Yeah I preffer T100MS's Sprite too, Its nota huge fav, but its good. ~wind~ if you wanted, you couldve included that o.O
But T100MS Fits the "pokemon" look more.

Yeah, we should do that. Or we could just make the dinos bigger.

.....Im pretty sure were gonna make the dinos bigger. So that was lil pointless, lol. It would be good if the headress grew too, but then thinking about cubone/marowak..

Also Ice, when I went through the 1st post I noticed allot of the W/O Sprite ideas say (Evolution of ______) but the evolution aint there. Either that, or their not in order.. Didnt really look for that.

Ill try a sprite soon From the 1st post

I tried, but couldn't really get it right till now.
It's not really the sprite though.
Just a vague outline on it.
My only main problem was that it says the armour is made of ice, and that seems to be steel :/
Anyway, I decided to stop being lazy and made this platypus/duck wip thing:

It seems pretty Icy.. A little steel, but Icy. hmmmm.

Was a idea like that approved? o.o Oh yeah.
Hmm I guess its in the size limits. But the lineArt and pose, are not the best, sorry. So itll be standing up?

If so, or if not we could make it a mix between a Platypus*duck/Grey(Type of alien, dont ask its sprite just reminds me a lil)
Type: ???/Physic
Just basic, or a 1 stage pokemon. if the basic has a evo, then the basic should be all fours :P

I take it you didn't check the "with sprites" section? Some people have only had an interest in doing one member of an evolution line, etc.

Well, it's within the usual canvas size but relative to everything else it's almost twice as large than other Pokémon of a similar stature.

The armor mainly uses the palette from DP Regice as a placeholder than I never bothered to go back and change. I can easily go back and change it but the problem lies in getting a combination of colours that accentuate the yellow trim and stand out enough from the blue areas.
